Baguette and Co is an amazing little french Pastry Shop in the Greek area of town.
I live in the East Side and I drive almost every weekend to try something else...and you always leave me wanting more. So delicious.
Sometimes, I even dream about the next time I get a chance to savour the sweets....
Love the flan, the berry tarts and that dessert called the Religeuse. Topped up with your strong Americano...magnifique!
Wish I had more stars to give. -

Ordered the almond croissant, lightly sprinkled with white icing, but better yet, almond creme filling was in every bite...highly recommended.
Since I wanted to balance this pastry with some healthy fruits, also ordered the raspberry/blueberry/grape custard tart, plenty of antioxidants to make me feel better lol. just a bit sour, prob. not time of season?1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Purdy J.
Baguette & Co is a small, clean, lovely smelling cafe with a variety of breads, pastries, and beverages. They serve Salt Spring Coffee and have mini breads if a full loaf is too much. There are many varieties of bread (both hard, crunchy and soft) but none with alternative flours like spelt or gluten free options. The French loaf is nice and crunchy on the outside and super soft on the inside - delicious for white bread but not super healthy (I am always looking for the fiber packed, nutty and seedy breads).
Very little seating and a little dark if you sit near the back but the window seating by the entrance is bright and a good spot of people watching.
Friendly service and Free wifi! For my first impression, I give it 4 stars. -

I live North of 4th Avenue so frequently shopping there more than this part of W Brdwy - but every once-in-awhile I'm in this area & try & stop in. Gr8 proper French baked goods, breads, tarts & the like. Croissants, baguettes, flans, biscuits, biscotti gateau! All delicious + tender flaky (in the "good" way) a tad on pricey side - but 'spose that's Vancouver for ya, expensive rentals/leases, whatdya expect'g? Regardless they have occasions when you'd walk in and There's an amazing deal, always something to tempt one. Not to be entered - if You're on a calorie reduced diet. ;) that'd be why It's so fabulously French! Quality vs. Quantity. Yum. One authentic croissant satisfies more than a dozen "Safeway" bad-ass versions. La Baguette on Granville Island is The only thing that's better, that I know of so far. Bon Appetit, Baguette + Co! Happy Easter - hmmmn = someone needs to head o'er there and check out if they've any Hot Cross Buns! p.s. they have decent coffee too!

What I love about Baguette & Co:
- their breakfast specials (one dry pastry + 1 Americano is $ 4,90). I pick this on the way to office almost every day.
- their coffee which is Salt Spring coffee & great!
- almond chocolate croissants
- Flan is literally to die for.
What I dont like about Baguette & Co:
- Service! They are not super friendly in general, regardless how often you come & how much you buy. I never have 'welcome' feeling in this place which is strange as food is amazing
- pre-ordered service: they've unpleasantly surprised me with a pre-ordered Pumpkin Pie. When I showed up on Thanksgiving day to pick it up & bring with me for dinner, I've learnt that their kitchen had had some issues, therefore the order wasn't not ready. They offered me to pick it up the next day instead of any apology... Thanks! Advance phone call would have helped better.
- scones - too plain in comparison with croissants & little deserts -

Have heard from friends that a good coffee and pastry could be had at Baguette and Co.
The croissants are extremely good. As good as the pastries at 49th Parallel and Thomas Haas if not better. The croissant was extremely flaky with a wonderful butter taste. Felt like I was in France.
Highly recommend this cafe. -

The dessert pastries I tried were ordinary. The baguette made with part whole wheat flour was strangely dense and chewy. But as soon as I saw the narrow brown bag the clerk put it into, with a clear plastic panel, helpfully (though incorrectly) indicating "crispy crust" , familiar to anyone who has seen baguettes at Safeway, I was mentally out the door. Basic, so basic. Don't align your shop with supermarket products. The business card with it's mouthless, noseless dough figure in a chef's hat has changed colour lately but still looks childish. It all adds up to nothing that reminds me of the French experience.

Quiet, breezy and en Francais? Well, bonjour! Stopped in for a bite and got the uninterrupted opportunity to work for solidly for a couple of hours. Brilliant!
I had hoped that their sandwich selection would be a little more robust, but the cucumber, dill and cream cheese were paired well together, nevertheless for $3. The bread was of the crusty (read hard) variety. I've got a cut on the roof of my mouth from said interaction. I know I could easily make this at home for a fraction of the price, but I just couldn't justify only eating pastries for lunch!
But, in addition to a pastry, why not! I devoured an apple turnover in all of its puffy, custardy goodness within record time. Definitely go for the sweets vs the savouries!
If I could wish for one thing that would make this an ideal space it would be a change up in the seating. Why the couches? Do people really travel in packs of 4, 6 and utilize these couches arranged together? I'm also not a fan of high top tables as they're uncomfortable and can make you feel like you're on display. For a more Parisan feeling, perhaps bistro style seats: short round tables with metal or wooden chairs would fit the theme a bit better? -

The only thing I love more than baked goods are MINI baked goods! Easier to sample a greater variety! So you can imagine my joy when I walked in and saw that MANY items were available in adorable mini-versions! The croissant dough was excellent and the ratio of chocolate in the chocolate croissant was perfect. I have to admit that the mille feuille (which I merely pointed to, as I worried about my pronunciation, and the employee said "the napolean?" and I thought there was some confusion - but now wikipedia tells me they're the same thing - good to know) was not as perfect - a little too heavy, especially the icing. There was a large variety of sweet stuff, including pistachio croissants - impressive.
And my other favorite thing in a bakery? Day old stuff - I at least saw some day old bread, so that's a good start. The various tarts were also attractive and there were many savory options. -

The lattes (hot or iced) are pretty good. I prefer their lattes over Oz Coffee's but I prefer those from Caffè Artigiano, not only for flavour but for value as well.
The butter croissants are only good fresh so if you're grabbing some, get them in the morning. The auranais are pretty good if you're into sweet but not too sweet, the chocolate almond croissant is good but is pretty heavy. Overall, they have a good selection of French baked goods. Nothing amazing but pretty decent.
I like their chicken, lettuce and tomato sandwich ($6). Their walnut, pumpkin seed and chocolate chip cookies are chewy and higher quality than the nearby coffee shops. Interesting combination.
They have wifi but limited seating. There's a couple of big comfy couches for lounging around but if you're not lucky enough to grab one of these on a busy weekend, the high tables along the wall aren't very appealing to sit at, especially if you're doing work.
It's usually busy and the service can be a bit "laid back." A girl asked me if there was enough flavour syrup in my drink and I thought that was very nice of her.
Overall, a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. I'm leaving town and will miss this place being a couple of blocks away. -

Je pense que j'arrive en France parce que le personne que se travaille ici sont francaises! Oh, desole, j'ai besoin d'ecrit en anglais!
I really feel whisked away to France here because the vibe is such. The pain chocolat wasn't exactly as it is in France, but it's good. The eclairs are also delicious. The coffee is French, the people are French, and the pastries are French. I would totally come back, even though I wasn't the biggest fan of the coffee, for the vibe. But then again, I never was a huge fan of French coffee. Not a lot of seating space... maybe 10 ppl max. -

Nice cozy atmosphere in that little shop that opened a couple of weeks ago, there's not a lot of seating so be prepared to wait to sit on those comfy sofas :) Or just grab something to go as most people do. French music (and not oldies) was a nice addition...
We went there on a rainy Saturday afternoon, a group of 6 French expats craving for French pastries, on an ongoing quest for the best croissants in Vancouver, decided to try on that bakery owned by a French couple... and we may have a winner here! or at least a top-2...
We couldn't resist to have a bite of everything so we ordered half of the items on display (no bread, we needed some sweet treat) and the girls behind the counter were kind enough to give us a knife and extra plates so we could share. Our favorites were the croissant and brioche but, except for the chocolate croissant that wasn't quite like the ones at home, we loved everything!
Teas and coffees are ok, not much choice though but it's a bakery that serves coffee and tea after all, not a coffee shop.
Nice location and good croissants... will definitely be back! -

I've been here twice in one week already, and the place just opened. Lemon croissants- never heard of them before...but I quite liked them. Pan au chocolate were good. The quality of the chocolate is spot on. Small area in the back that tries to be a little cafe. Leather couches. Listening to the French expats speak with each other....I could close my eyes and pretend I was back in Paris.
