Absolutely delicious. Went here for lunch once, and was surprised. Went here for breakfast, and was MUCH more surprised.
The breakfast was incredible. We had a fruit cup, buttermilk waffle, green eggs(spinach) and migas. They also have fresh squeezed, absolutely delicious orange juice. Everything was exceptional. Every single part. I do not have one single complaint. -
Review from David H.
This was actually a tough decision between 4 and 4.5 stars, so I decided to be generous and round up. The .5 star I was thinking of taking off is only cause the service was super slow when I went, and it took over 30 min to get the food.
The food here is quite good, and the fresh squeezed oj is excellent as well, though a shade on the sweet side. I got the two eggs, two sausage, potatoes and toast, and the gf got the green eggs and sausage. Both were well made and good, though the pork sausage leaves just a little to be desired.
Pros: Cheap food, well made, fresh OJ
Cons: Poor service while I was there, and sometimes there's a wait -

WTF BABY BARNABY'S, WHY YOU SO GUD?!
I never eat breakfast. Not because I don't have time, but because it's incredibly boring most of the time.
If you're anything like me, do yourself a favor and go order Green Eggs. It's fucking delicious, and I've been craving it every day since I've had it.
Service is great and staff is extremely friendly.
Did I mention it's f'in delicious? -

Ok so I'm usually hesitant to try new brunch places because typically they are over-priced compared to my usual (Egg and I) and aren't as tasty. But my husband swore I would like this place, so I went along.
Just a heads up - you do have to wait outside, and the waits can be long if you don't get there at the "right" time, so if it is a warm day you're going to sweat a bit, and parking is really tricky in this area as well - BUT don't let those sway you from giving this place a shot. (The reason for the long wait btw is that it is incredibly tiny inside - probably why it was called "Baby" Barnaby's!)
On to the food - this place is AMAZING. Both times I have gone I got the Migas with Chorizo - so delicioso. My husband got a waffle, the basic breakfast, and the Green Eggs plate with the Chicken Apple Sausage. Everything tastes soooooo good and fresh. We also love to watch the spiffy machine make fresh squeeze OJ.
OH and the prices - totally reasonable. In fact they are pretty closely aligned with the prices for a regular plate at Denny's or IHOP or Egg and I.
I would eat here for every meal if I could. Just saying. -

So we show up around 1:40 because my forgetful butt forgot to get directions beforehand. Luckily, there was still a line outside waiting to be seated. Lol. The boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this place out, because of the high reviews. Pretty neat-o place i would say.
-Parking sucks
-There is a line outside in the sun!
-Ambiance is cozy and nice.
-We tried the fresh squeezed oj (wish there was more $2.50, they were in mini cups the size of 2 shot glasses, i drank it all in 2 gulps!) We also had the healthy dish and the apple pecan pancakes YUM!
Overall, we spent about 28 bucks for two people. Nice place! We shall be back! -

My perfect breakfast spot in Houston. The huevos rancheros with eggs over easy, great coffee, and the occasional small glass of freshly squeezed orange juice makes my Sunday morning perfect. Arrive early to avoid the crowds, but even waiting here is a delight with the coffee and the people-watching.
Wonderfully friendly staff, especially Louie!!! -

What huge portions!! Their food is healthy and pretty tasty. I love the tuna melt (they put cheese in their tuna sandwich and then heat it up). Also, their fresh strawberry lemonade is really delicious. There are little strawberry pulps inside that makes it taste all the more good for you too.

I will eat them off of Montrose on Fairview or South Shepherd
I will eat them on a spotted zebra or a striped leopard!
I will eat green eggs and apple sausage at Barnaby's
However, I'm lactose intolerant so easy on the cheese!
Okay, Dr. Seuss I'm not but you get the point. Barnaby's Cafe is absolutely amazing. It doesn't matter if you go to Baby Barnaby's or its grown up big brother, you will find consistency with great service and delicious food. Fresh fruit and piping hot coffee served in table sized carafes are just a couple of the highlights of Barnaby's.
Beyond great food (and a pancake the size of Texas itself), Barnaby's is a customer service gem. Sign your name to the signup sheet and designate whether your prefer inside or outside seating, then grab a cup of coffee and wait (not long) for your name to be called. The waitstaff is incredibly friendly and very accommodating. Even when my order wasn't put in by mistake, one of the waiters had a seat at my table and apologetically informed me that I had been missed somehow in the kitchen. He offered me a free bowl of fruit and minutes later I was seated in front of a piping hot plate of green eggs and apple sausage!
If you're like me and you love breakfast give Barnaby's a try and I promise you it will become habit forming. Get their early, this best kept secret of Houston is spreading like strawberry jam on whole wheat toast! -

My two all-time favorites: Bob's healthy plate and green eggs! Also love their chicken apple sausages and pumpkin pancakes (seasonal). The inside and dog-friendlyness reminds me of Austin :) Only downside is that they close too early, because sometimes I want breakfast at 2pm!

Fantastic brunch with really friendly staff. I've been going here regularly over the past few months and it is consistently one of the best brunch places in Montrose.

Wait is long for weekend brunch. Self serve coffee available as you wait. Awesome! Very friendly service. They leave a thermos of coffee and jug of water at the table so you can refill your stuff whenever. Huevos rancheros was good. Generous pile of fresh juicy mix of berries on the waffles.

When I was driving up to the location, I was a bit worried about where to park because of the narrow roads leading to the restaurant. I have to say they have veryy tight parking spots! Please improve the parking. There are actually two restaurants here: Barnaby Cafe and "Baby" Barnaby Cafe (which is the breakfast place). The location was very cozy and the place was packed for a mid-morning breakfast. I ordered the banana-nut pancake and my friend got the huevos rancheros. I have to say the pancake was colossal! It came with a cute mug for the syrup and I really enjoyed the pancake. The eggs platter was pretty average, except the crunchy potatoes (mmm). Service was okay, nothing too special.

Review from Nupur L.
Suicide pancake! No, it's not an '80's band. It's the best breakfast food in Houston.
I brought a friend from New York to Baby Barnaby's for brunch. In spite of his dismay at the size of the "suicide" pancake (just ask for it), he finished 80% of it. I finished the other 20% after we almost scuffled for it. It was a monster of a pancake, with blueberries, bananas, walnuts, blackberries and all of the other toppings on the menu. Best part is that they don't charge extra for your ordering it. If 'suicide' is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
I got the green eggs, which were so damn delicious. The chicken apple sausage and potatoes were also bomb. Our other friend got the breakfast plate, which he enjoyed. Service is sometimes forgetful. My friend only received his iced tea when we were almost finished with the meal. He ordered it before we even ordered food so that was lame. I'm not at all a germophobe but seeing the stacks of coffee cups in an uncovered outdoors area near the coffee grossed me out a bit. Whatever, the food rocks and it's reasonably priced. I'll be back ASAP. -
Review from Ann Q.
if you can get a table here, make sure to order the green eggs and ham.
INDESCRIBABLY GOOD. -

Perfectly charming first impressions. We were there when the doors opened and within the first fifteen minutes, it was almost packed. Everybody was perky and cheerful which is great for us morning people. Fresh coffee awaited us at the table, made especially for Baby Barnaby's. Trivial pursuit cards kept us entertained after the meal as I enjoyed another cup of the wonderful coffee. I couldn't have asked for a better breakfast. Everything tastes fresh. My boyfriend doesn't even like eggs that much and he raved about the ones on his plate. They had some healthy choices for breakfast too.
The entire staff was attentive. We wanted to tip everybody. Stop by if you have a chance. You won't regret it! -

If I could give this place 20 zillion stars on Yelp I would! I have never and I mean never had a bad dish at any Barnaby's location. My ex was cheating on me with one of the waitress at Barnaby's and I STILL go there, even if it means running into to the heifer, so that should say something about how good the food is!!
The decor is nice and the waitstaff is wonderful (except one boyfriend stealing heifer heheh) and to be fair, she has never waited on me, but has worked there for years, so she must be good at her job. I absolutely adore Barnaby's! -
Review from Grace K.
The service is just stretched too thin for such a busy place with tables packed into a tiny house.
Not only did it take an inordinate amount of time to get our waters, place our order, and get our food, but we had to wait (at least 7 minutes) to get our check. The waiter obviously ignores people when they are trying to flag him down (because he's so busy with his other tables, because they are so short-staffed), and not only that, another waiter just straight WAVED his hand "hello" at us when we were trying to ask for the check because he did Not want to come over and help us.
I don't care what the food is or how chill the restaurant is, if you are in the service industry, you better be servicing! And as a previous server myself at two different restaurants, I know how hard it is when you're slammed, so I am very patient and understanding... To An Extent.
These people just straight up gave us the cold shoulder :*( so sad. -
Review from Lauren T.
This is an adorable little café serving your typical diner-style breakfasts with good-quality ingredients. Portions are generous, and the waitress was very helpful in allowing us to sub out (fruit cup for bacon, English muffin for biscuit, etc.) I had the green eggs and they were delicious--they tasted like spinach artichoke dip. My husband had the BLT with eggs over easy and loved it.
Service was good, but we were there on a Tuesday so it wasn't crowded. Places like this are a dime a dozen in New England where I grew up, and I'm not sure why they're such rare finds in Houston. While I really enjoyed the experience, I wouldn't go on a weekend and stand in line just for tasty eggs, hash browns, and toast. -
Review from Jen J.
Meh....long ass wait for some fairly mediocre breakfast on the weekend.
Service was really hurried; we didn't have enough silverware most of our meal; I never got to order a fresh squeezed orange juice after the waiter missed me the first time. Later on, as I watched my friend trying to fish no fewer than a dozen seeds out of his orange juice, I kinda decided it was a good idea that I didn't get to order it.
The apple chicken sausage was really bland, not nearly as tasty as some of the ones I've had in the past. French toast was mediocre. It needed to be more greasy imo.
Overall, unimpressed especially after a 40 minute wait dragging our hung-over stomaches. -
Review from Justin L.
Giving this place a 5-star rating was pretty debatable. Don't get me wrong, it is a strong 4-star but I don't want to judge a place by one experience. So here's a quick list of why I liked the place:
1. I ordered the Pork chops and eggs. I can't really grade easy-over eggs b/c it's an egg. I really haven't had a bad egg...ever. For the pork chops, they actually had flavor -- w/ a lightly seasoned-pepper based coat. Although I didn't love the pork chops, I thought they were the best I ever had for breakfast pork chops.
2. For their hash browns, they use the standard cube shape potato...HOWEVER, they fry it. And that my friend was pretty gangsta. I don't like most hash browns outside of the McDonald-Burger-king-fried type. And when I heard that they had the cube shaped-seasoned ones, I was a bit skeptical b/c they are just chopped up and sauteed. But yeah, these were good b/c it's fried. Who doesn't love fried food?
3. As a group, we ordered some waffles. And surprisingly, they are really good. They have a slight crisp touch and the batter, it's good. I don't think I ever had bad batter waffles, but these waffles are probably the "Best" I've ever experienced -- and it's just dough.
Other notes:
3. Ice tea -- they kept refilling it. Good service.
4. Seating -- tight, and there was a 40 minute wait around 11:30am for the Monday following New Year's Sunday.
Overall, this place serves solid breakfast food. I am hesitant to give it a 5-star b/c I can't base it on one experience and need to fully judge it on the other dishes. So...I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. -
Review from Rachel M.
Went here with a friend after a night of a few too many margaritas. (followed by wine... one of those nights). Baby Barnaby's was just what I needed. It's not pretentious and has a very laid back atmosphere.
Got there around 10 on a Sunday morning and there was a wait list for indoor seating (which, from the looks of it was pretty cramped), but, since the weather was so nice, we found a spot on the patio which was first come, first serve. Our server was great (his name on our receipt was "the man", which is telling of the chill/quasi-hippie atmosphere of Barnaby's)
We both ordered freshly squeezed orange juice and fruit pancakes (choices of blueberry, banana walnut or apple pecan). One huge, square fluffy pancake each topped with fruit and powdered sugar. We should've split the pancakes because we each only ate half. "The Man" told us to order the suicide pancakes next time which -for the same price- would include all of the fruits and nuts in one. May be what I order on my next visit or maybe the green eggs or maybe a breakfast platter... we'll see. -

Breakfast here is the best start to any day, or for me, everyday. 80's music always jammin'. Insanely delicious black beans. Perfect Oatmeal. Overall, great, healthy food. And the awesome staff of Scott, Ana, Jose, Marina, Darneezy, etc. sincerely makes this place the best breakfast in town.

This place is awesome. I found it when I lived in houston and go back every time I visit.
Why all the love?
1. it has a cool chic diner feel
2. they aren't pretentious, their waiting list is on a clipboard which you sign up for
3. they have fresh squeezed orange juice
4. They make chicken apple sausage
5. They have a menu item which plays on dr. seuss
6. It might be a place which counts as a "hang-over cure"
Ok, what to order?
1. Fresh OJ
2. Green Eggs (has spinach in it)
3. Chicken Apple Sausage
Go early, it gets packed pretty quick. -

There honestly isn't anything to say about Baby Barnaby's that hasn't been said already so I'll keep it short and sweet.
I LOVE Baby Barnaby's! It is my favorite thing to do Sunday morning after staying out all night Saturday. I always get the breakfast platter: scrambled eggs, potatoes, whole wheat toast, and tomatoes on the side instead of any meat. And, of course, the freshly squeezed orange juice! I mean c'mon, how fun is it to watch that machine work it's magic!?
This is probably my favorite place in all of Montrose for anything. It's great to sit and catch up with friends over some delicious breakfast food. If you're lucky enough to get seated outside when the weather is nice, it's heaven!
There's always a wait, so if you're in a hurry come early. -
Review from Calily B.
200+ reviews, so I can't give you anymore insight than what's already there. Potatoes are served piping hot, eggs not overcooked, and coffee pot is left on the table.
I don't ask for too much when I come for breakfast but I do appreciate it when places get it right.
The wait can be long and I'm not sure if I would wait more than 30 minutes, but if you can get seated in a timely manner, it's worth it! -

Don't waste your time if you want breakfast. I drove an hour to try this place and they were not open. It was 9 am. I did find a very good place close by. Fortunately they were open at 9 am. The hours are a lie. So don't expect an early start from this so called breakfast cafe.

Brunch- YES
So good....so, so good. I love when I find a unique breakfast spot, because, let's face it...breakfast is so repetitive. Bacon, eggs, waffles and pancakes. You really can't switch it up a whole lot from that. Here I was able to have an egg white scramble with cheese, spinach and ARTICHOKES. Yes...this tasted like that awesome Artichoke pizza you can only get in New York but healthier and way more delicious.
One thing I love about southern food is their grits and butter. I love butter, and butter on these amazing Belgian waffles....mixed in my grits....spread of their thickly sliced wheat toast, it's just all too good. If I ever die...it will be death by butter.
Service was quick and efficient. Coffee while you wait outside for your table, which wasn't a long wait. Cozy interior. Fresh juice. Win baby, win. -
Review from Aimee L.
Breakfast/Brunch is by far my favorite meal anytime of the day but it's especially good on a late Saturday or Sunday morning. If I am looking for a non-partying brunch I love coming here. My only complaint here is that it's teeny tiny but it makes up in great friendly service and hot fresh food.
My absolute favorite breakfast dish here is the Green Eggs. Mixed with spinach and artichoke and topped off with pepper jack cheese...you can't go wrong there. It is served with crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside potatoes. Perfect every time!
Unlike other breakfast chains' food that is fatten and greasy feeling, Barnaby's served great breakfast food that is satisfying and makes me feel like I started my day with a healthy meal. -

Our favorite breakfast spot in Houston! You will wait a while to be seated, anywhere from 30 minutes up to an hour, but trust me it's worth it. Delicious food, awesome service and prices to match said awesomeness. You will not walk out disappointed or hungry. :)

Green eggs...what an amazing dish! I drool thinking about these fluffy scrambled eggs with artichoke, cheese and spinach, a side of chicken apple sausage, crispy potato cubes and a couples slices of toast.
I've learned my lesson that if I'm dying to go, I got to get my butt up early in the morning to beat the crowd. It's torture having to put your name on the list and wait and wait...while watching people get their delicious, wonderfully smelling food. It feels like we should almost keep this place a secret so not too many more people come. It's tough enough to go in a small group (recommended 4 or less people per group to get seated in a reasonable amount of time) because everyone wants to go!
Hubby usually gets the burrito, of course subbing out the slices of tomato for the crispy potato side (good call!).
I like sitting inside and watching the fresh orange juice get squeezed, which means of course I have to order a glass of one because it's just too good to pass up! Have always wanted to sit outside in some pleasant weather but good luck. If you get lucky enough to get one of those tables, I'm sure you'll spend your sweet time enjoying it. :) -

Breakfast is my favorite meal - and no one does breakfast like Baby Barnaby's. This is where I take people I really like or people I want to make jealous - because they don't have places like this outside the loop!
It is very cozy, the waitstaff is awesome (especially Scott) and the food is delish! If it's your first time here I recommend the green eggs, biscuits and fresh squeezed orange juice. Once you've tried that, then move on to the breakfast plate, breakfast tacos, Bob's Healthy Plate, and then basically follow that up with the rest of the menu.
They open early and close around 1. It is always crowded on the weekend with a wait, so if you're able to, try to come during the week. -

I love coming here Saturday mornings for breakfast. The wait can be a bit long, but there's coffee outside and a generally pleasant atmosphere. My theory is probably that if there's a line, more likely than not, your food is fresh. So it's definitely worth the wait.
The portions are quite large (for all dishes), and usually there's enough to take home for a snack later in the day. The waffles here are amazing. So fluffy and crispy all at the same time. The pancakes here are gigantic. I think the first time I came here, my friend and I made the mistake of each ordering breakfast and then also getting pancakes to share. The potatoes are perfectly and crisply fried and not too greasy (definite plus). The huevos rancheros are always delicious, but I tend to lean towards TexMex breakfast everywhere I go.
Will definitely be back. -
Review from Janna L.
I really liked Barnaby's when I went there for dinner, so I had been meaning to try Baby Barnaby's and see how they serve up my favorite meal. I went on a Sunday morning around 10 and even though there was a wait, it wasn't bad. I wrote my name on a clipboard and grabbed a cup of coffee- no big deal. If it hadn't been chilly outside, the patio would have been ideal for eating outside.
I almost always order omelets for breakfast, so I was surprised when I didn't see a single one on the menu. I went for something different and ordered the corned beef hash with eggs over easy. It came with potatoes, red and green peppers, and obviously, corned beef and eggs. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the corned beef was delicious, and the potatoes were hot and crispy. I could have done with about half the amount of potatoes, but overall the meal was wonderful. The service was a little slow and inattentive, but for a lazy Sunday morning, who cares? -

Pumpkin pancakes + unique cafe = new go to breakfast place while traveling
I come to Houston a fair bit and I have my usual spots I like to go. Well this one is the newest to the list! I really cannot get enough of pumpkin pancakes and when I saw them as a special I had to get them. In reality its one big pumpkin pancake but its just as amazing as a whole stack. Everyone at our table inhaled their food which I take as a huge vote of confidence.
Its a small place so get there early and with a small group to get seated. And def try their specials! -
Review from Arnel S.
Food - 3 stars. Everything else - 4 stars.
My girlfriend and I recently stopped by this neat, little breakfast spot after a weekend long run. Apparently, we weren't the only runners who wanted some better-than-IHOP breakfast food because there were a lot of other people clothed in sweatshirts, running shorts, and running shoes waiting outside on this chilly morning.
If it's busy, make sure to write your name on the clipboard that is hanging on a wooden post located on the front patio. The wait for two wasn't bad at all, and I was lucky enough to get a parking spot right in front of the restaurant.
Seating on the outside and inside is tight, but, instead of feeling too close to other diners, the seating contributed to the quaint, comfortable, casual atmosphere of Baby Barnaby's.
Our server was friendly and quick. Our drinks (fresh squeezed OJ with one of those orange-squeezing machines!) and our orders were served to us really quickly. In fact, some of the people who were seated right before us were already chomping down on their food when we finished ordering, so I felt assured that our food would be out soon.
My girlfriend's waffle was delicious. Thick, warm, drizzled in syrup and butter. If you love waffles, I suggest you give Baby Barnaby's version a try.
My corned beef and hash...did I tell you about the waffle yet? Anyway, I wasn't feeling the corned beef and hash. Though I applaud the size of the dish (huge), the corned beef was super dry, and there was an overabundance of skillet potatoes in the dish. Though the scrambled eggs atop the dish offset the corned beef and potato tasted, it wasn't enough to deem my dish the loser of the two dishes that morning (and, yes, I'm the guy at the table who always wants to have been the winner at ordering dishes).
I'd come here again. That's for sure. Just not for the corned beef and hash. -
Review from Gene L.
Just had a marvelous breakfast at Baby Barnaby's this morning!
Dropped in today for brunch on a beautiful fall morning after getting mah church on close by. Nestled in the heart of Montrose, this gem brings together all that is awesome about Houston - a diverse crowd, super friendly and chill peeps, and oh-so-satisfying food.
When I walked up, looked like there was a long line, but I went ahead and added my name to the clipboard. Seemed like there were a ton of people in front of me, but as others have said, they turn over tables fast. Waited no more than 20 minutes, which was no problem for me as I got more time to enjoy the gorgeous weather with a mug of complimentary coffee.
Green Eggs is where it's at! The eggs, apple sausage, wheat toast, and fried potatoes are a match made in heaven. There was absolutely nothing left on my plate....and I wasn't even hungry for the rest of the day. Oh, and our waitress was super cute, and quite a hoot to boot!
Not much more can really be said about this place...one of the best breakfast spots in town! -

Very cute interior and their orange juice was very fresh! People there were very nice and welcoming too.
The place is so popular but not a big restaurants so your space will be very tight around the time for weekend brunch. -

Oh sweet baby Jeezzuss. I love Baby Barnaby's. I've been there a couple of times now, and I love their food. Though there might be a wait, I believe that it is worth the wait. The place is small to begin with and there really isn't much of a parking lot, so you need to park on the streets next by it. They are dog friendly; both times I went, I saw that people brought their dogs along with them. Also, the owner (or so I believe is the owner) even provides water for them. :) Though there really isn't an official wait staff coming by to check up on you, it didn't bother me much. Just flag them down, and they'll help you out to the best of their ability.
Now for the food. I got the Green Eggs. Sorry, but there aren't any green hams. This plate consists of two scrambled eggs mixed with pepper jack cheese, spinach, and artichoke hearts. It also comes with toast and cajun styled potatoes. This is my most favorite dish and is without a doubt, a must have. My second favorite is the Lox Platter. This has a bagel with cream cheese, of which you spread to your liking, and it is accompanied with smoked salmon, tomatoes, red onions, and capers. It is also just as tasty. :) These plates are about $8 and $9, respectively.
Some other things I like about the restaurant is that they give full pitchers of water for each table. It saves time, and is easy for both the customer and the waiter. They also have fresh orange juice that they juice right there on the spot. Though I wish that it would be served slightly cooler, it's the first thing I order on the spot.
All in all, I love coming here for brunch. The food is great; the staff is great, and did I mention? The food is great. :) I will most definitely be coming back here in the future, and I give it the full OMNOMNOM status.
