Time and time again I read people writing less than favourable reviews in regards to this restaurant. Surely people don't consider Julio's Bario good Mexican cuisine?
As someone who spends multiple times a year in Mexico, I would have to say this place is as tasty and authentic as we get.
Don't let appearances fool you. Once inside, you'll find a nice, clean, well decorated atmosphere. Staff was great and the meal was served up fast. No complaints here. I highly recommend the chicken burrito. It's big but save room... the Banana Loca is to die for. I'll be back. -

We arrived around 9:00pm for "postres" and a night cap.
We were greeted outside the club by a polite doorman.
We seated ourselves and were attended to immediately. I guess we arrived a little early for the dancing. Couples were still seated. Finishing their meals and celebrating birthdays.
We ordered some cocktails and a plate of churros for the table to share. Normally I don't eat desserts, but I had to have one of those hot, delicious, golden, doughy tubes of cinnamon-sugar goodness. A scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce topped it off. MMMMM!
My friends ordered Mojitos. They were descent. I was not offered a glass for my beer. I suppose that's O.K. In Mexico and South Central America, I am rarely offered a glass.
The "one man band" kept us entertained and eventually the customers who come here on a Saturday night for salsa dancing were getting excited. Short skirts and high heels paraded by. Now that the football game was over, the gents were lining up at the bar on the far side of the club. Priming themselves for dancing.
As we were finished our dessert and drinks, we decided to head home because we are old and get tired easily.
The temperature is quite cool, so wear a sweater. Maybe a dance or two would have warmed me up.
Next time I'll try the food.Listed in: Underdog Challenge

We went to Azucar for the food on a Sunday afternoon (and not the club scene) and the experience was very disappointing.
The overall atmosphere was relaxed and authentic.
The service was slow even though there was only one other table. The order was incorrect 2 times. The food was bland, soggy, and forgetful. My enchiladas were mushy and the rice on the side was dry.
The price is on par with other restaurants. -

Azucar serves legit, tasty latin food. We had pupusas and empanadas to start, followed by tacos pastor (pulled pork) and tacos carnitas. They were all obviously made in house (including the tortillas), flavourful and spiced without being overly hot, although the beef in the tacos carnitas was a bit on the tough side.
Our server was friendly, although timid - he confided it was his first day. But he was attentive and and found the answers to all our questions if he didn't know himself.
We checked this place out on a weeknight for dinner, but we'll certainly be back on the weekend to experience the nightclub, live music and dancing. -

Azucar is a really nice change of scenery in the Edmonton club scene. They play live music at different parts through the night as well as top 40. The majority of the music is latin and it's really cool to see everyone on the dance floor salsa dancing or doing their best impersonation.
It is a really good crowd, everyone is so friendly but sometimes the bouncers can be annoying and power trip, but what bouncers don't? The best part is they serve soft tacos after midnight for all those people that have the munchies.
I wouldn't be able to go here very often but when you get sick of all the other clubs in the city that are exactly the same, Azucar is refreshing. -

I've been to this resturant, not only to eat but as well on Saturday nights for their live music. Very good food and music. So far Ive ate the bistec a la pobre (try it, it's delish) the plate is served with steak, fried plantain, rice, fries, and black beans..oh and an egg on top of your steak. My hubby eats the same plates always so I decided to try the chicken, didn't like it so much. Im not a burrito fan, i like more of the bigger plates with varity and it's quite healthy. It kinda reminds me of a popular portugues dish "bitoque", prices are a big higher and the staff seems to be pleasantly nice. The night scene is great for all age types and it's nice to salsa to live music. All in all I return to this resturant again.

Azucar is a club located in North-East Edmonton, and it is the place where people of all ages, sizes and of defferent dance skills come to dance salsa. Here you don't feel self conscious, and you are not being judged. You just dance the night away to the best of your abilities! There are free salsa lessons every Friday. I happen to know Juan Bohorquez who is one of the dance instructors, and this guy is great! Everyone at Azucar is friendly and hot, hot, hot:) - the crowd, the barmen, the musicians who play live music. Have you ever danced to the beats of Latin American tunes played by Latin American musicians? These guys will put you in ecstatic mood and make you dance till you feel like your legs are falling off!
Azucar has regular clientele who come to dance salsa every week, and more often than not this place gives away "good friends gathering up" vibe. If you come often enough, you too will be treated like a family.
The drinks specials are great. If you come on Friday before 9 pm, the cover is $5 for guys and free for the ladies.
