Around the corner from the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel. Rented the FIAT 500, wife had a blast driving around the city. Car clean, and dent free. Fun !!!

This weekend we were in Vancouver visiting (my first time in Vancouver)...let me say the service (or rather lack of professionalism, empathy and service) left me with a profound distaste for Avis... My husband and I will NEVER rent from this car rental company for the rest of our lives, and I mean it. We arranged (through the concierge at our hotel) to rent a vehicle for Saturday for a day trip up to Whistler. My husband spoke directly with an employee at the location (not the call centre, the hotel called the rental office directly) and took my husband's information down, gave him a rental rate for the mid-size compact we reserved. We showed up nice and early on Saturday at 7:30am to be greeted and then told that "Sorry, you don't have a reservation"... The agent, Trish, was rude, arrogant and had a flippant attitude. She did not care or even apologize that another one of their fellow employees dropped the ball and didn't complete the necessary paperwork on their end to properly secure the vehicle for us. Fine... not very impressed with their current display of "customer service" we were trying to resolve the situation being that it was the long weekend and we knew that shortly there would be several other people attending to pick up their cars. We inquired about the availability of using another vehicle and we were told we had 2 options... 1 very small Fiat or a very large Yukon... which really meant we didn't have much of a choice since the Fiat was not a safe vehicle in our opinion for a drive up to the mountains with my being 5 months pregnant. We inquired about the Yukon and were told the rate - which was about 5X more than our original rate we were given by their agent the previous day when we made our reservation. We asked if she could give us a break on the rate seeing as it was quite clear that their employee had dropped the ball. I asked Trish who was working yesterday and her flippant answer was "I don't know, what's your reservation number?".... this set me over the edge, we clearly weren't given a reservation number by the employee who said we didn't need anything else at the time of the reservation (and we had already shared this information with her) and this rude reply and her demeanor was completely uncalled for... I mean, really, what kind of establishment are you running if you don't even know who else is an employee at your establishment. We were told that if we went online and made the reservation the rate would be better than what she could give us because we had just walked in.... We pointed out to her that we hadn't just "walked-in"... we had made reservations that weren't followed through properly by an employee at their office and now were being made to pay the full rate which was unfair... we asked again if they could at least reduce the rate and they wouldn't budge. We called the hotel concierge who then also tried speaking with the office to no avail. I called the customer service number for Avis and was told all of the same information, it seems the common theme is that no one at Avis has sensitivity training or empathy training or knows how to even try and resolve a customer complaint...had they tried I would have at least felt like they cared and valued business from us. I asked the telephone agent to speak with a manager and was placed on hold for 13 minutes without anyone coming back to apologize for the delay or acknowledge that I was still on hold. When the manager came on line I was even more frustrated, I received the same scripted speech from the manager on the phone, who also argued with me that the Fiat was a completely safe car --- I'm sure for city driving it's fine, but not the drive up the mountains...(incidentally on the drive home, we passed a head on collision fatality - the Fiat and my and my unborn child would have surely died had that been the vehicle we were driving)... The manager then had the audacity to discount my feeling by starting her sentence with "ANYWAYS...." I hung up, went back inside to speak with my husband who was still inside dealing with them, when the hotel concierge called and told us they had secured another vehicle for us with another rental company. The best part about all this was when we were walking out another customer was also overheard saying " Well, I'm supposed to have a reservation, I made it yesterday" - CLEARLY they are not running an efficient office with VERY POOR customer service.

If they had a wall for regulars, I will be some where near the top of that list. The staff here a friendly, they are really quick most of the time. The only thing I don't under is how there rates work. When trying to book the car, I have seen me paying more for 3 days than I would pay for a 4 on same dates, or sometime even 5 days. So book in advance, when booking look around with dates.

Actually we disagree. We're surprised to see these glowing reviews where our experience more closely matches reviews posted elsewhere--service was exceedingly slow, this location charges a $10 parking surcharge where most other downtown rental agencies do not, and when we a car that was DOA, their staff actually made the situation much worse through simple incompetence. We've rented often in Vancouver from Budget, Dollar Thrifty, Enterprise and even Pacific Car Rentals, but we've never had worse service than at Avis. Parking is miles below ground, the office is crammed into a space beside the Fairmont Vancouver and so is high-traffic but has no clear line/space to line up, and in all, it's absolutely an awful place to rent a vehicle.

After being burned by a local tour company and NEVER coming to pick us up at our hotel. We ventured down to Budget and after being ran around with them for unexceptable reasons of not having 2 major credit cards, we then ventured down to AVIS.. we walked in needed a one day rental to drive to Whistler and was in and out in 25 mnts tops... With ONE credit card and $62 LESS then what budget was gonna charge us. Jason took care of us with above and beyond customer service. And simple return instructions and worry free service Thank you AVIS for making my Whistler trip come true!!!

After getting stiffed by Budget Car and Truck Rental in Downtown one too many times, Avis was a breath of fresh air. I would recommend going here before anywhere else. Unlike Budget, they are super friendly, fast and efficient, are well priced and don't require the extortionate credit card holding charge.

I really like this place. They are always friendly and the cost that I get from their web site or their iPhone app is always what I am charged at the end. No surprises (see: BUDGET!!). The only downside is you have to rent early to book a car especially in summer. They also have great incentive programs that you can sign up for on the web (eg. free weekend car rental for every 4th weekend rental).

Quick, efficient check-out and straightforward after-hours check-in. No surprises, no push for LDW, and most importantly, no discoveries of "damage" like in other rental places I've encountered.
