Review from Zlatko U.
Located in the lobby of a fancy shmancy hotel (Hilton), you would expect you would get the superstar service from this Avis. Sadly that is not the case.
Back home, I reserved our car over the Avis website. On the day of our road trip, we found ourselves somewhere around where this Avis location was supposed to be . However, we could not find any signs outside for this location. Being pro, we went inside Hilton and asked for Avis.
We found this silly little room with a very hyperactive lady standing behind the counter. After looking me up she changed my rental and then I asked about the insurance. I was explained that there was a super duper insurance package with all the bells and whistles and it was only for $49 a day. Thinking "holy jebus that is toooooo friggin much" I asked if there were any other options. Sure enough, on the back of the page there was an insurance package noted for $9.99. Awesome, we'll take it.
She gave took my card, printed some stuff, talked the whole way through like a kid without ritalin. She gave us our keys and showed us towards the garage. After wandering around the garage for a few minutes we found our blue car to be beige
Anyway, the little metal bucket got us around the Gaspe peninsula without a problem. No bears or moose or even caribou got in our way. 1,000+ miles in a Korean wonder.
We returned the car to the Avis at the QC airport. When I got the final bill I noted that I got charged a whooping $138 for insurance. BLASPHEMY!!! Apparently it was not 9.99 a day, but 10 bucks less. Thanks a bunch hyper lady!
I disputed the rental with Avis. Given that they don't give a damn about my business they told me that there is nothing I can do. Well, I can certianly stop renting from Avis.
Yelp Pro Tip: When signing the contract, look at all the numbers and make sure that you are not being bent over.
