New location for Tonic, now known as Tonic Aveda. This new(ish) hair-only location on St. Denis features the same Aveda product focus, comfy & cushy beds at their hairwash stations (instead of chairs- still the best idea ever and makes me wonder why other salons don't do this), pre-haircut essential oil head massages, and most importantly, wonderful haircuts by Emilie. Her cuts manage to lighten my heavy head (some type of layering style) and make it not look like a soccer mom 'do that it tends to grow into. After 2 years away from Montreal, I manage to track Emilie down, despite the salon name change and her change in location. Let's hope she never leaves Tonic/Aveda without alerting me! Yes, you'll pay a premium for the hair, especially with the awful exchange rates now, but I always leave Tonic and Montreal happy!

I called this salon and they sent me to their sister salon on Mt Royal and it was the worst salon experience I have had. I set up an appointment for color/cut and during the color, she wrapped too tight and really pulled hard at my hair. It took well over an hour for a foiling that usually takes about 30 mins max.
During the rinse, she told me my cut wasn't scheduled for another hour, so they would offer me a hair treatment. I finally just cancelled the cut because I didn't feel like spending almost 4 hours at the salon and asked to go straight to the blow dry. It was the worst blow dry I've ever seen. I wish I had just done it myself because I had to go out afterwards and looked like I was in a windstorm.
End result = bad color, she damaged my hair, and had to pay a lot for it. Not sure about this one on St. Denis, but since this one referred me to their Aveda on Mt Royal and there is no listing for them... writing it here. -

Based on a positive review that I saw here (which has since been filtered), I had my hair cut by Allyson. I'm not sure if cut is the right word... maybe hacked describes it better, as she just randomly hacked and thinned my hair...on one side only! Two hairstyles for the price of one!
