I haven't been to the salon here, but I have bought products from here.
I really love shopping for Aveda products. If I had all the money in the world, I would still buy Aveda. I see it as a treat, because it is more expensive and better quality than drugstore brands.
The greatest thing about this store is that they sell travel sizes of a lot of their products. I can't afford the big bottles of "shampure" so I buy mini versions of my favorite stuff.
I am always offered tea when I walk into the store and everything in the store feels so calm and relaxing. I will continue to come back again and again to buy products. -

My last trip into Aveda for a lipstick replacement was so disappointing.
I was not greeted. I went straight over to the cosmetic counter as usual. I looked for my shade then made eye contact with the gal at the counter. She noticed me (finally). She started to saunter over to me but was interrupted by a senior citizen with a request. I did not think it would take more than a few seconds for this lady to have her question answered, so I turned back to the pretty colours and amused myself for a minute. When I looked over to see if the sales gal was finally coming over to me, I was surprised to see that she was pouring that lady a cup of tea and chatting with her. I stood and faced them with my hands indignantly on my hips. Instead of getting huffy, I started smiling at them both. The old lady actually looked at me and asked what I was smiling at. I replied that it was a sardonic smile and went back to my browsing. I was going to just walk out, but I wanted to see just how long I would be ignored by the staff. There were NO other customers. Finally I asked if I could be helped. She came over and I told her what shade I wanted. I also asked her to explain what a lip stain was. She did not know. I actually know what it is because I use to sell cosmetics years ago. When I realized I was dealing with an imbecile, I just started feeling sorry for her. I bought my "fix" and left. I really should have asked the manager to assess the situation, but I was afraid that she might tell me she was the manager.
I still really like the products.Listed in: 30 day challenge

If you're looking to get your hair cut for somewhere mid-range, the Aveda Academy Salon is the place to go. You get the quality haircut you would get from a good salon, but pay half the price.
This is because all their stylists are in training. So if you're only comfortable with high-end professionals doing your hair, this may not be the place for you. That being said, you can always ask for one of their senior students instead. I was pretty happy with my stylist, who was very particular with her work and took care to ask me what I wanted along the way.
You also receive complimentary tea and a head massage before they begin cutting your hair. The massage includes one of their hair treatment products, and its soothing scent instantly relaxes you. That's not something you often get from a normal salon, is it?
The Aveda Academy Salon offers all hairstyling services, from basic cuts to colouring. If you go, be sure to make an appointment, as they don't accept walk-ins. -

I had a great experience today. I was greeted and introduced straight ahead to who was going to cut my hair. As they are all students, a teacher/supervisor is always around giving them a hand and supervising how they proceed. It was so nice to get a short 'stress-massage' and also a shampoo massage afterwards. Gets you good to go! The haircut in itself was good, I am pretty happy with it, and will definitively come back again next time.
Great value for the money and extremely friendly service - highly recommended! -
Review from Rachel F.
When I lived in Chicago (and was always broke) I had numerous fabulous haircuts at the Aveda Institute there. As an Aveda fan, I looked for Aveda salons, knowing the brand was one I could trust. That changed when I moved to Canada. I have had the two worst haircuts of my life at the Aveda Institute Edmonton - and these were by graduates, not students!!! From the way the stylists attempted to hide their mistakes (which included uneven length on the sides and a terrible, gaping "hole" in the style), it was obvious that they knew they had done poorly but hoped for me to get out of the salon before noticing. I had the first terrible haircut the day before flying to London to attend a friend's wedding. I had to wear hats and scarves the whole three-week trip because the haircut was so hideous. When I got back to Canada and asked for a redo, I was told that too much time had passed for a free re-do, however, if I came back, I could have a different "senior stylist" cut my hair for a reduced rate. The second cut was only slightly better (no gaping holes, but not even on the sides). The non-Aveda stylist who fixed my hair after that cut took two and a half hours to give me a style I could live with (my hair is thin, fine, and chin-length), though it has taken two cuts to get my style back to anything resembling a decent cut. The damage was that bad. I will now avoid every single Aveda salon in Edmonton. If the Academy graduated those two "stylists" and trust them to work in their Academy Salon, I can put absolutely no faith in the Aveda brand in this city.
By the way, the fabulous cuts I received at the Institute in Chicago cost me $14 a cut as opposed to the $45 I paid for each of the horrendous cuts here in Edmonton. The prices here are outrageous for an academy salon. Even more outrageous for bad cuts. -

If you want a stylin' haircut but don't want to pay designer prices, Aveda Academy's a great place to go. It's a salon and it's a training school. There are salon prices, but if you want a discount you can book with their stylists-in-training. They do the work and before you walk outta there it's checked by a senior stylist, and any mistakes are corrected. You save a good $20 going this route, and the truth is, they already know what they're doing, they're just getting practice. The likelihood of them cutting off your ear is nil, but any glaring mistakes, especially if you pointed them out, would be corrected. Aveda has quality products as well, and you get spa treatment with a neck and scalp massage with soothing oils after your consult. Make an appointment though. That way you can find out a bit more about the trainees and pick from them, based on experience and recommendation.

Review from Maria F.
I have received the most horrible hair cut of my entire life at Aveda Salon. I love Aveda products and buy them often, so getting a hair cut at Aveda salon seemed like the next logical step. Little did I know that my stylist would prefer to ignore my requests and concerns, and cut my hair the way she saw fit. This stylist was not recommended to me by any friends; I chose her by chance, based solely on the fact that she was a senior stylist. After I walked into the salon, was greeted by a friendly sales associate, admired the décor and beautiful scents in the air, and sipped a cup of Aveda tea, I was asked to get into the chair in order to receive the consultation. My stylist was a beautiful lady, who listened to what I had to say very intently. Apparently, the words did not sink in because 15 minutes later I was looking in the mirror with the sense of utter horror. I asked the stylist to keep the length - she chopped my hair 4 inches shorter. I asked for long layers -she made mine short, which caused the hair to look curly and frizzy. I was so busy chatting with my lovely stylist that I didn't notice all the atrocities that were going on north of my neck. By the time I realized the seriousness of the situation, it was too late to fix anything. I chose to stay calm, keep a brave face and not say anything. But believe me- growing out a bad hair cut is no easy task. I had to wear a ponytail every day of the week for two months.
I am sure it's just my luck that I chose an unsuitable stylist; and I am sure that there are many young talented hairdressers at Aveda Academy. But for now, Aveda salon is for purchasing hair care only. I'll take my hair cutting needs someplace else. -

I find this place a little hit and miss, until you've found a good stylist to stick with. I lucked out my first time there and paid a good price for my regular haircuts for awhile. Then my stylist just kind of vanished, and I tried someone else and it just wasn't worth it. She kept pushing a bunch of products, even though I had said repeatedly that I will not spend more than 5 minutes on my hair, and when she was done my hair looked worse than when I do nothing with it. The manager was really good and offered to redo my hair for me (although I didn't take her up on it). But otherwise, I always enjoyed going to Aveda, although I go elsewhere now.
