Lisa made our delicious wedding cake and grooms cake for our wedding in Alpine.  If you are looking for cakes for any occasion - go to Lisa.  Utterly incredible and a divine experience for your mouth!  The prices are completely reasonable for the amount of love and labor she pours into each piece.  She and her lovely husband Jack delivered the cakes themselves to the location in Alpine and assembled them on site!

The cafe itself is a little piece of West Texas paradise.  Lox and bagels were delicious and it is so obvious that everything on the menu is lovingly made.

Can't wait to share this place with friends and family on future excursions to Alpine and Marfa!  Thanks again Lisa and Jack!  ...and Annabelle too!

Austin Street Cafe is kind of like Austin, TX.  The building is full of character.  The garden is green and lush.  The chicken coop in the back is funkier than South Congress, Austin, TX.  The owners are absolutely wonderful hosts, and they are masters of telling the charming tale of how their cafe came into existence.

For breakfast with a large media group and culinary touring group here, we had eggs with greens that were fabulous.  Along with breakfast, we had mimosas, which pretty much made my morning.  Life doesn't get much better than being waited on hand and foot, fed delicious food, and poured all the mimosas I wanted.  After breakfast, we were lucky enough to get a tour of the grounds, the gardens from which breakfast greens were picked, and a look at the chicken coops.

This review isn't heavy on the food like many of my other reviews.  While the food here was impressive, I really felt the overall experience and character of the location made for a lasting memory.  I kind of want to live at Austin Street Cafe.

Note: Austin Street is only open to the public on Sundays, but available for groups and catering on other days.  My meal was covered by the media group.

A true Marfa gem. I wish my house looked and felt like this restaurant.

Only open on weekends for a few hours so make sure to visit Marfa on a weekend so you can eat here.

Don't come here expecting a big breakfast, but do some here expecting perfectly cooked eggs and inviting hosts.

    Curried green eggs were heavenly.

    The Good:
     :: local business. excellent!
:: homey place. love the cute little house with a cute patio and cute interior. low key and unassuming. totally love it!
:: the owner is so friendly and warm
:: the food was so fresh and refreshing and delicious. for example, i had some kind of bean salad that i wish i had the recipe for right now. portions were excellent, too. i was filled up without feeling like i was going to explode from food overload
:: juice is made fresh to order
:: the owner, when he thought we didn't have money to pay with, cheerfully told us that we could just mail him a check later. WHAT??? in this day and age, that just doesn't happen. can you imagine that happening at a place like wal-mart??? i don't think so. we loved that there was this immediate trust given to us. amazing.

    The Bad:
:: only open on sundays! nooooooooooooooooo
:: no credit cards accepted. cash or personal check only.

    The Ugly:
     :: none

Would I go back? Definitely. The warm fuzzies I get from this place make me wish so badly it were actually something I could get to every day here in Austin.

    This place is IN.

The Austin Street Cafe was just the charming place I wanted to find in Marfa. The inside has rustic tables and a fresh air feel - the outdoors is equally magnificent with its lush landscaping and simple white tables.

And the food...now, it's not the place to go if you're craving a big hearty breakfast. But instead, it's the perfect place for a light brunch with friends. I had the hard eggs and toast & my friends had fresh fruit and yogurt - all good choices. We sat and chatted over coffee afterward - the ideal start to another peaceful day in Marfa.

This place was great. The adorable space and wonderful owners made this dining experience uber pleasant and memorable. They also knew my friend, a Marfa resident, who had just gotten married. We were in town for her party/reception,  so our meals were on the house. Which is just too nice considering we were a large party. I would think that these small businesses in such a desolate area would be eager to acquire business...but my friend is awesome and obviously has charmed the pants right off of Marfa.

We had delicious veggie wraps that had black eyed peas (which I normally hate), spinach, and shredded carrots. It was perfectly fresh and just the thing I wanted on such a hot afternoon.

Only open on Sundays (check their website) and cater whatever event you have in the area.
An early Sunday morning around 7.30am, found myself roaming around the streets looking for breakfast.  Been to Cochineala twice already, needed to give others a try.  In fact my stay was way too short.
I knew from the locals that Austin St Cafe only opened on Sunday and getting there was the best option.  Lisa and Jackie get up early to gear up the kitchen and get the place opened up.  I arrived to their door thirty minutes early, see Jackie checking the details.  There is so much to do.
I waited patiently outside as Lisa came out the front door with the open signage.  She give me a great smile / welcome.  Then pointed the whereabouts of some great owls nesting at the church across the cafe.  She didn't leave out the gruesome eating habits of the owls.
Inside the cafe is inviting, Jackie still busy setting up.  He points to some coffee and Lisa fills me in on the details of the place.  The renovations, original wood floor, room layout essentially the same and length of time to finish.  A real labor of love to build this place.
I ordered a simple breakfast of blueberry waffles with some hard boiled eggs; cooked perfectly creamy yolk and seasoned simply.  Sea salt, peppers, dried herbs... my mouth waters thinking about it.
I spent nearly the entire morning at their cafe.  Sat at the community table and chatted up with other customers.  Some local neighbors from an adjacent town.  We talked about Marfa, Judd, politics, cultures, nations, and artwork.  This could have lasted all day, but I had a time schedule to keep.
It sort of made regret leaving so quickly, but my journey is far and job needs to be kept.
I do plan on returning and planing my weekends to match this cafe's schedule.

things have changed at austin street cafe since my last visit (nearly 3 years ago). they are now only open the first sunday of each month.  the menu has expanded and the hard boiled eggs "done right" are truly the best i've ever had in my life!  seriously. jack was lovely when i asked what that meant exactly, "done right".  he explained it to me and i honestly wished we'd ordered another round but it was closing time and i didn't really have room in my belly.  in the crisp cool west texas air, we sat in the sun on the porch and enjoyed the relaxing vibe. after throwing down on several meals in marfa during our stay, this one was the most affordable and felt like "home". we will now plan our marfa excursions around the first of the month, so we can enjoy the delights of austin street cafe.  ace!

Another gem in Marfa.  Pretty chill place.  The decor was not what I'd have imagined in Marfa a clean modern interior in a charming little house.  They have interior and exterior seating available.

I highly recomend the Lox and Bagel.  We also had the Ham and Eggs but the way the egg was cooked was not to my taste but of the sandwiches were tasty.
