Came here for Botox and loved it! Professional service, clean and classy atmosphere. Sophie was amazing, left zero needle holes or blood on my face. My forehead looks smooth! Very pleased with my results. I definitely recommend this place.

    Thank you!

    4/29/2012 6 Check-ins Here

I've read some of the reviews here and I just want to put this out there first- I am not friends with anyone here, nor am I a relative to anyone that works here.

I bought 6 treatment from a groupon deal to get my porno 'stache zapped off my face. Sexy, huh? Besides, hubby likes me better without it.

Facilities are clean. They have a waiting room in the back, with refreshments and comfy couches for you to relax in while you wait your turn. Front staff is super sweet, as are the RNs.

I've been able to make most of my appointments, but on two occasions have had to reschedule and was never charged a fee for rescheduling. Additionally, one time I was able to come an hour earlier then my scheduled appointment, I called and asked if they could squeeze me in. Um sure if I came right now they could get me in. Totally accommodating.

My only complaint (yeah, I'm cheap and I like a good bargain) they don't let you use groupon for future sessions after the first six. So I'm not sure I would go back for hair removal when I can get a better deal somewhere else. I'm not trying to be disloyal, and I would gladly shell out my money to them if they would let me use more groupons, but since they don't, I'm not sure I would come back.

I am not a fan of any business who puts an ad on groupon, only to tell their customers that they will make you wait 6 weeks for botox. That is laughable. The only thing worse than waiting to get my lines ironed out is probably the watered down botox that may be put in at the said appt.. but that remains to be seen... in 6 weeks.
Everywhere else, I am usually given an appt the next day, same week. Big mistake falling for this discounted price. Wish I had paid full price and gone to my regular doc. Ugh.

I will report back if the botox lasts less than 2 months.

I purchased a groupon voucher for this new to me spa. The only way to book the appointment was thru email. It took them 3 weeks to respond and when they did, appointments were not available for a couple months. I could have use my groupon and money  towards a business that wanted my patronage. I did purchased a living social deal and was able to book within a week.
Spas are a dime a dozen. Aura skin is not unique. Never again. thank you

I purchased a Groupon for six laser sessions for the bikini line. I have been going to Aura Skin Spa for over a year and definitely recommend it. For me, the six sessions weren't quite enough. They recommend six sessions as a good starting point but that everyone is different. I ended up seeing Jennifer Otanez, RN, MSN on their staff for my laser appointments. I enjoy her because she is professional, safe, personable and generous. Because I have darker skin, she made sure to be careful with the strength of the laser to avoid discoloration and spots. I have been very happy with the progress. After my seventh visit, which was discounted because I've been going there for a while ($99), I now only have to go in for maintenance appointments.

The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. Out of the seven visits I've had, there was only one time I had to wait (15min) because the client before me was late. I usually made my appointments in the morning hours. The location is easy to get to by car, and public transportation. If you are having a laser appointment similar to mine (bikini) you can park at a meter and be out of there in 15 minutes. It's great.

One star for the friendly and helpful reception staff and for the beautiful and clean facilities. But why did I go here?- for IPL for rosacea and brown spots, a treatment I've had elsewhere with good success.

They seemed very busy- a good sign for a small business, but I experienced a few things both on my initial visit and my treatment day that definitely gave me pause. After filling out many papers, we waited for probably 30 minutes past our appointment time and were then rushed into a treatment room and sat down for evaluation. Seconds later there was a knock at the door and they were ready to give us the boot! The nurse assured the other staff that it would just be a few moments- and believe me, it was! We had a few questions which were barely, or not answered and then we were rushed back to the front desk to make an appointment. I've worked in a medical office before, I'm sure they're just having a hectic day, I thought.

So I returned a few weeks later for my treatment, waited, papers, waited, waited. Then the same nurse appeared and had me go to a separate room to apply some numbing cream. Normally they do this for you but she must have been too busy as she ran out of the room while I washed my face. I washed up and put on the cream and waited outside for her to come back, hours went by, well, maybe not, but quite a while. I even moved chairs at one point so that I could be seen from the hallway by the staff. I didn't know how long I was supposed to be numbed before treatment, no one told me anything. Eventually the nurse came back and asked me if I'd put on the numbing cream (as if i preferred to read magazines???). Yes, lips and face completely numb I returned, I followed her to the treatment room.

She quickly got to work applying the IPL snap, snap snap to my face. I'm so glad I had that numbing cream, it hurt like hell and she gave me no time to recover from each snap. I asked her if she had to go over the face a few times; at other medspas they go over twice for redness, and twice again for brown spots. She simply responded, no, I don't need to, she told me that  she was overlapping the places on the skin where I was being zapped, I don't know that that's exactly what happened but it sure did not seem very thorough at all.

It all happened so fast, at one point I started wincing and calling out and she kept on going. I asked her to STOP! She was going over my beard and it was SO PAINFUL I could hardly stay in my chair and she was giving me no recovery time between the snaps. She stopped for a moment, did a couple more. Told me I was done and to meet her at the front desk to check out. TALK ABOUT NO BEDSIDE MANNER! She did do a few test spots on my arm, which she told me would not work but by the time I got out of there my arm was beet red, burned, and blistering! Yikes!

I don't know if the nurse had a date in 5 minutes and that's why she was so fast and careless, and talk about insensitive to obvious pain! Maybe they were understaffed or there were other pressures, but wow did I feel like I got a really quick and dirty treatment. This treatment was a few hundred dollars so I did expect a certain level of quality and care. I will wait to see the results but should contact the doctor of the house to explain my experience and ask what should be done. It's not the kind of experience where you would want to come back and pay for the service. Many, many other great places in town, I don't think I'll be in a rush to come back unless the management can address this situation.

One star for service. Staff is pretty unhelpful. Over the phone they have all these stipulations that are not mentioned on the groupon disclosures. Like is a minimum wait of two weeks just to use the groupon! plus $150 cancellation fee, plus you cannot use your groupon if you cancel or miss your appointment - RIP OFF ALERT!
I am not a fan of any business who puts an ad on groupon, and the only availability for customers is to wait SIX weeks. Very Unusual, other facilities make appts less than a week. The only thing worse than waiting lines ironed out that remains to be seen... perhaps they are using expired dysport/botox. BIG mistake buying in there service for discounted price. Advise: pay full price and then get discount from regular doc websites. The receptionist will ask you if you are using a 'groupon' then stated you will not be seen by the doctor but only the nurse, and then said the nurse is only in on Thursday and Fridays :( sounds like nonsense to me.  Dissappointed.

I find it amazing the fact that the only bad reviews of this place come from Groupon users... like many bad reviews throughout yelp!
Groupon users are picky, demanding and want to spend as little as possible with anything they purchase, and with all of that, they are rarely happy!!! OMG!!
Now enough about Groupon and it's users, this place is awesome!
I've done my Brazilian and underarms laser hair removal here and absolutely LOVED IT!
Their customer service is great, they make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. The treatment worked! No gimmicks or glitches it simply worked!
I couldn't be happier about the results!
I'll definitely come back here to do my lower legs and maybe some Fraxel.

I made an appointment a month before I wanted to be seen.  The day came and I called to confirm my time.  Of course, my info was in the system but my appointment wasn't confirmed.  They said there must have been a glitch in the system.  Nothing more annoying than making an appointment early, expecting to have a service done and then being told there was a glitch.  Bad service, really bad.

I bought a Groupon for Aura's laser spider vein treatment back in July. I have some broken capillaries on my face that I was self conscious of. My first appointment I arrived right on time and was made to wait in the waiting room for 15 minutes. Then when I was called in, the nurse informed me that we wouldn't be able to do the procedure that day  because I was late and I would have to reschedule and come back. Strike 1.

When I came back again for my appointment they made me wait 20 minutes again before being seen.

The laser treatment stung, but it was nothing unbearable. I have tattoos and am used to pain. After the treatment I looked in the mirror and had some redness. However, that night my entire face swelled up. It was worse than when I had my wisdom teeth out. My jaw and cheeks were swollen like a chipmunk. And the areas they treated were spotted with 13 fluid filled blisters. I looked like something out of The Goonies.

I called the spa the next day and asked to be seen since I knew something was wrong. Again I was made to wait for a good 20-30 minutes before a nurse saw me. Apparently the doctor only comes into the med spa on Friday mornings.

The nurse gave me some antibiotic ointment and sunscreen and asked me to come back on a Friday when the doctor was in. She told me that I was having a severe reaction to the laser treatment. The swelling lasted for over a week and the blisters for  about two weeks. When the blisters were gone I was left with 11 dark brown scars on my face from where my skin had been burned by the laser. They looked like liver or age spots and were about the size of a pencil eraser. Way worse than the capillaries I originally came to get rid of. I started to hate looking in mirrors because the face I saw wasn't mine anymore. Instead it was riddled with dark ugly brown scars.

When I went back to see the doctor (after sitting in the waiting room for 30 minutes) he gave me a bleach cream for the brown spots and told me that they would fade in a few months. He then told me that if I wanted to get rid of them that I could buy a $1000 treatment  to get rid of the spots. I was appalled that after this spa had permanently damaged my skin,  they weren't even offering to try to fix it for free. Instead they tried to up-sell me on a treatment that costs a grand?!

It's been almost 6 months since I had the laser treatment and I still have these unsightly dark brown spots on my face. I've spent hundreds of dollars on vitamin c serums, peels, facials, and creams trying to fade them.  I am extremely disappointed in a) the way my service turned out and b) the way the spa handled the situation. Although not everyone will have the reaction I did, wouldn't you like to know that if something went wrong the establishment would do what was necessary to fix the issues...for free and not try to charge you $1000 dollars?

Also, what is the point in booking appointments when you don't even get seen until half an hour after your appointment time? Their time management is horrible and they clearly don't mind wasting your time.

Bottom Line: Aura has the worst customer service. I have been getting facials for several years now and am not a newbie. My other facialists have been equally appalled by the damage they did to my skin and the fact that they made zero effort to try to remedy the situation. If anything they tried to take advantage of my distress and sell me more overpriced treatments to fix the damage they did.

I purchased a Groupon for six laser hair removal sessions (underarms), and went to Aura for nearly a year or so (that's about the time frame when you space out each session from 6-8 weeks, factoring in holidays etc)...  The lasers worked really well and I am happily hairless... Touch ups are $75 per treatment, which is totally reasonable.
I docked 1 star just based on availability - they've got a number of treatment rooms, but it is really hard to reschedule, unless you can head over during your lunch break. Though, to their credit, they've always been really great about rescheduling. The text message and email reminders are great too.

I've been to Aura 3 separate times now for 3 Brazilian, 2 underarm, and 1 upper lip laser treatment.

I used to shave my underarms literally every day just so I could do downward freakin dogs at yoga without shame and have nearly cried on the table during every Brazilian wax I've had over the past 12 years. It is SO satisfying to look at Aura's work and think that I will never face either horrible scenario again. They have truly CHANGED MY LIFE!

The nurses are great, striking the balance between making the pulse strong enough to be effective and not causing too much pain. I'm a total woos (see comment above about crying during waxes), and have been totally fine at Aura! I just have them pause after every 10 pulses or so to cool off, then restart, and even then the treatments are REALLY fast.  And have I mentioned effective (see comment above on changing my life)?!

My only complaint is that I can't afford them at full-price, but I *will* find a way to get 1-2 more underarm and upper lip treatments so I can get to 100% hair-free! (The 6 Brazilians I already bought will be more than fine!)

Before I go into my horrendous experience, I encourage viewers to review other disturbing comments. I'll summarize a few...

JT. writes "rude, nonchalant and lacking in customer service"

VL. writes "never accept their credit. Once you paid your money is gone to their pocket."

    "they are very shady..."

Rebecca P. writes "could I give this place no stars? That's what they deserve."

    Day d writes "BUYER BEWARE"

I have never experienced such a shocking lack of professionalism, tact, customer service and honesty from a business. A friend of mine started using them after getting a Groupon. Afterwards he decided to purchase an additional $1,600 worth of services from them. I purchased $1099 worth of service using a Groupon deal the day before everything went down hill. To make a long story short the situation was so mind-blowing I was called to be an on-phone witness to the conversation that was going on in the store.

After listening to how they treated my friend, I demanded that they refund my money. When I arrived first thing the next day I received the same disrespectful treatment that I heard my friend endure over the phone. I guess you could say I was lucky they didn't threaten to throw me out like they did to him. Nonetheless, it was ugly.

IF YOU WANT TO BE LAUGHED AT, LIED TO, SECOND GUESSED AND HAVE YOUR CHARACTER DEFAMED AMONG OTHER THINGS, THROW YOUR MONEY TO THE GARBAGE AND SOLICIT THIS BUSINESS. I have to wonder how many people who rated five stars are boyfriends, relatives and friends who probably got extra treatments to put positive results...

    NEGATIVE STARS IF POSSIBLE!

I am so disappointed with this place! The staff is EXTREMELY unprofessional.  Once Aura has your money, forget about service and you can forget about quality treatments. You may get ok service if you are a one to two time customer. If you plan on buying a package BEWARE...you will only have bad experiences.

Also it seems as if the staff at Aura are having friends write them all good reviews here on yelp...because all the people who actually spend money here do not rate this place highly.

I bought the recent Groupon for laser hair removal and upgraded to brazillian bikini. I had my first treatment two weeks ago and I thought it went well. I shaved the treatment area bare before going in, as directed. The technician got started right away - she didn't offer much explanation so I assumed there was nothing I needed to know. She worked very fast. After the treatment, my skin wasn't red or irritated at all. I thought this was odd.

For the first few days after the treatment nothing happened. Then my hair started "shedding" which I had read about online and knew was normal. I also read online that after the shedding period the area should be completely hair-free for a few weeks and then start growing back again. This wasn't the case for me - there were definitely patches that never shed and kept growing as if they had never been treated. This lead me to believe that the technician had missed these areas - mainly the outer edges of my bikini line and 2 other patches. Annoying.

I'm still giving Aura 5 stars because of how they handled the situation. It was great. I sent an email to the spa telling about the missed spots. They called me right away and had been come in for a touch up appointment the very next day. This time I had a different technician - Melissa - who was fantastic. She re-treated the patchy areas and was very thorough. She gave me lots of good information about the treatment. I left feeling very informed. I asked them to put a note on my account to ensure I have Melissa for all future treatments.

came here for laser hair removal.
the place is beautiful and clean and everyone is super nice.
they have snacks in the waiting room (love), which is an added bonus.
Melissa (an RN) did my hair removal and she was extremely professional and nice.
since she knew it was my first time, she sat me down and explained everything, asked if i had questions, etc. i didn't feel rushed at all.
the experience wasn't "fun" but WAY less painful then waxing.
love this place. will definitely be back.

    Honesty is their issue.

    Summary:

Do your research on pricing before you pay and never accept their credit. Once you paid, your money is gone to their pocket. No refund nor credit whatsoever.

Find out what level of treatment you are getting because they can rip you off without you even being noticed by giving you lower level and more treatments needed. They are very shady on that. At least, that is how I feel.

To be fair, the place is very nice and clean, and their equipments are up-to-date.

    My story:

I found out this place from Groupon. At my 1st visit to use my Groupon voucher, I got up-sold for something else, call Fraxel laser treatment to remove or lighten my birth mark on my thigh area for $500. After I got home, I did a little research on Fraxel and their website. I found out they were having a promotion for Fraxel. So I talked to Larry the next week when I had my Fraxel procedure. I believe he is one of the owner of Aura. He gave me a $100 store credit. OK. I had my fraxel treatment done.

It was a little bit painful but I could handle it. Two days after the treatment, the redness was almost 90% gone. Nothing changed. One month later, I went back to talk to Dr. Waechter. He told me the level of treatment I had was the lowest one, so they gave me a touch up with next higher level. ( IMPORTANT NOTE: You need to know what level of treatment they are giving you, because that could mean you are being ripoff and you don't even know. ) I see a lot of reviews saying they were getting 6 or more hair removal treatments there. I'm wondering.......

Another month later, I see a significant improvement but there is still redness. However, I received their email promotion recently , so I went back to get the pricing for my 2nd fraxel treatment. They said I will need to pay another $400 plus the $100 credit from last time. I said, why I couldn't get the same deal from last time, which was $400? They said, that was for 1st time customer. They also changed the wording on the $100 credit. Now, I can only use the credit towards my next faxel treatment ONLY, which mean I'll either pay another $400 to get the 2nd treatment or I'll loss my $100 credit. They are totally dishonor their credit.

I purchased a Groupon for a laser spider vein treatment at Aura Skin Spa months ago and finally got around to using it today! Purchasing a Groupon can be a great a way to visit a spa without having to spend a lot of money for the first visit only to find that the spa is not a "good fit". Using a Groupon for a spa visit is also a fantastic way to learn about a new spa and gain information through personal experience. This information can help when I'm trying to decide where to spend my limited beauty dollars!

I made my appointment weeks in advance with a very friendly receptionist who worked with me to find a time to fit my schedule. When I arrived for my appointment today I was treated with courtesy and kindness.

Jennifer O. was the Aesthetic Nurse Specialist that administered my laser spider vein treatment. She was very kind and listened to my concerns. She took the time to explain the procedure completely and also the possible side effects. Jennifer was very detailed oriented and took great care and time to "zap" as many of my unwanted spider veins as she could within the allotted amount of time! While she was ridding my legs of spider veins she was able to keep me distracted from the "zapping" with conversation and was happy to answer my beauty questions.

I'm looking forward to great results and I'm saving my beauty dollars for another visit to the Aura Skin Spa for a Fraxel treatment in the New Year! Thanks for a great experience Jennifer!

I love this place. I have been a number of times and will continue to go. I never thought I would become a regular at a skin spa, but the procedures they offer really work. I went in to have some sun spots removed and it's amazing how the new technology they offer is so effective.  I have some pretty major sun damage which they completely took care of.

The staff is great as well.   My technician Jennifer O was awesome, she is friendly and knowledgeable. She explained everything she was doing and exactly what to expect. I was very nervous to have a laser treatment done, yet she was so patient with me and she put me at ease. I also really appreciate how they accommodate my schedule.

The place is also stunningly beautiful and clean.  I have recommended this place to a number of friends who also love it :-)

I grossly misunderstood laser hair removal. I thought it would be like in the 007 movies where a person is strapped to a table with a giant laser beam slowly moving toward their crotch. Luckily for me, this was not my experience.

Anyway, without giving TMI, I am pleased with my experience. I was scared before going in (the lasers used at Aura are actually a wand device and operated by a nurse, not a mad scientist or cat with opposable thumbs). I had 3 sessions at Aura and one at Kaiser so now the hair is gone forever.

I bought the same Groupon as everyone else but unlike everyone else, I had a good experience. The staff did tried to up-sell me (for only $$$ more you can get ____ done) and seemed disorganized (called/emailed me with different times of already set appointments - this happened on every visit). Even so, everyone at Aura was very nice, discreet, and professional. The facility is clean and clinical without being too hospitally.

The "less one star" goes to the waiting room, specifically the looped Brooke Shields Eyelash Growing Commercial (may cause vomiting, loose stools, and permanent erectile dysfunction). There is no way to change the channel and BELIEVE ME I TRIED. The first day I was 1/2 hour early (I swear I was told a different time) and was forced to listen/watch Brooke Shields complain about her eyelash problem, which has something to do with wearing falsies on Broadway. As with all operant conditioning, I hate her even more than ever before and if I ever see her in person, I might pull out all of her hair.

I waited a few days before writing this, so I could be clear-headed about my experience.  When I'm frustrated nearly to tears and have just driven all the way across town with numbed legs, it's hard to write eloquently.

Yes, this story involves a Groupon.  And the ambivalence some businesses have about their own marketing strategies.

So I buy two 50% off laser hair treatment Groupons for Aura Skin Spa.  I know the areas I want zapped, but I'm not sure which service on their price list that would be.  So I call and explain my zapping needs and my Groupon.  The front desk gal assures me they can figure it out when I get there.  Cool.

So I get there and things are efficient and professional.  It's a lovely space, the equipment looks state-of-the-art...  I'm excited -- and already checking out pamphlets for other treatments they offer.  Then I meet my Zapper, Lourdes.  She's unclear on what I want done and none too friendly about it.  She excuses herself, and then the front desk girl comes in.  With a calculator.  And she now explains that what I want done is not covered by my Groupons.  The 50% off is only for certain services, not the one she and I had discussed on the phone.  When I mentioned my Groupons.  The kicker? They need an additional $700 from me.  Now.  I am, at this point, wearing a towel, and my legs are covered in numbing cream.

I'm upset and surprised.  She goes to check with someone in charge, then returns and apologetically confirms that this is the best they can do.  She patiently explains -- presumably based on what she was just told by whoever makes the decisions but does not have the courtesy to deliver them -- that they "don't make any money off the Groupons.  It's just a way to get people in the door."

Uhm.  PRECISELY.  So you got me to try your business, which I probably wouldn't have otherwise.  And rather than impressing me and inspiring me to buy more from you, you try to strong arm me from the jump by claiming a technicality in hair removal borders -- after I've stripped from the waist down.  (And I double-checked the Groupon when I got home, and there was no such distinction made in the offer.  The Groupon linked to a full list of services and made no mention of restrictions.)

Here's the thing:  I am a straight-up GOLD MINE for a business like this.  I am aging, insecure and gainfully-employed.  And I am definitely having this service done.  In the right place, I'd happily pay full price for it.  This is not that place.

One extra star because the receptionist wasn't bitchy.  And was clearly the fall guy for the marketing genius who put out this promotion and then decided they didn't want to honor it.

After years of plucking, waxing, threading, nairing, and bemoaning my undesired hairs (lovingly dubbed my "man hairs") I stumbled on a Groupon for this spa.  I went click crazy (and damn the consequences) and voila!  Today I had my first session (of six).  I had Sophie as my technician.

The spa itself was clean and attractive and easy to find.  There was a discreet back room for the filling of forms (lest anyone catch you in the act) and the table was nice and comfy.  Having had extensive tattoos, I was uber-tough about the pain, which was negligable.  It stank though!  So I held my breath, until Sophie reminded me to breathe, which made me laugh.

Generally speaking, Sophie was great.  Very calm and straightforward, great bedside manner.  I am looking forward to finishing this up in the coming months!

All told, the entire experience, including startup paperwork, took half an hour, and was remarkably easy.

I have to admit I was a little nervous to redeem my Groupon after reading the other Yelp reviews, but I have to say, my experience was ALL POSITIVE!

The receptionists were friendly and efficient.  I enjoyed a People magazine in a quaint and very clean waiting room.  And my nurse was nice as can be.  The procedure (underarm) hurt a bit, but the nurse was so fast, I didn't mind.  She was very thorough in explaining everything to me and I was out of there in no time.

There were absolutely NO hassles around using my Groupon and I would totally recommend coming here to anyone looking for a good skin spa!  Thanks, Aura!

I, too, visited Aura for laser hair removal after buying a groupon. I'm a little mixed on the experience. The rooms were nice, the place was clean and modern, and the waiting area was comfortable. It wasn't terribly busy when I went (mid-day on a Friday) and there were small snacks laid out, though they were tucked in a corner and I didn't notice them until I'd been in the waiting room for 10 minutes or so.

As for the service - Lourdes did my upper lip and bikini line (standard) and I was amazed at how quickly it went by. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I pretty much felt nothing. She told me that the laser they use is quite large, so that's why they can do it so quickly. A word of warning on the bikini line though - wear scandalous underwear. I know, what a non-sequitur. But seriously, I wish someone had told me, because I feel like I got kind of ripped off because I was wearing boy-short type underwear (I wasn't given a disposable pair) which covered a lot of the area I was expecting to get zapped. I have two more sessions there, and I'll definitely wear different undies next time. TMI? Maybe - but I wish I knew ahead of time.

To sum up, really quick service (I was back at my car 25 minutes after my appointment time, and they were running late) and a good overall experience, but nothing to jump up and down about. I'll be back twice more for my groupon.

Mostly, a good experience. I purchased the Groupon for laser hair removal and quickly got an appointment. (+1)

I was told on the phone that I would receive an email confirmation and instructions to prepare for my appointment, but the email never arrived. (-1)

I then called the day before the appointment and asked for instructions over the phone.  The Aura personnel provided me with the instructions and told me that I would need numbing cream, then offered to call in a prescription at my pharmacy so that I could save money. (+1)

I arrived for my appointment and the facility was clean and attractive.  I was quickly led to a comfortable waiting room and received by the nurse on time. (+1)

Unfortunately, it turned out that the prep instructions I had been given on the phone were incorrect, so the procedure was considerably more painful, and possibly less effective, than it would otherwise have been. (-1)

I had decided to have laser hair removal on an area that was not covered by the Groupon, but for which the groupon could be "upgraded" at a discounted price.  The upgrade listed was priced for 3 appointments.  Because I had never had laser hair removal before and was unsure whether it would work, I called to ask Groupon if I could upgrade on a per-appointment basis (in other words, pay 1/3 of the cost of the upgrade for the first appointment, wait to evaluate efficacy, and then decide whether to use the remaining appointments on the same area or a different area covered by the Groupon).  Groupon said that I COULD upgrade on a per-appointment basis.

When I went to pay, Aura told me that I had to upgrade everything at once.  After a long conversation, the girl at the front desk told me I could just use the entire Groupon for that one appointment.  When I expressed dissatisfaction, she spoke to her manager and told me that I could wait 2 weeks to decide whether the treatment was effective before deciding whether to upgrade.  I thought this was a satisfactory solution to a problem which may have been caused by a mistake on Groupon's side. However, this should have been clarified with Groupon. (+0)

Two weeks later, I was still not sure whether I was satisfied with the treatment.  When I called to ask about the issue, Aura maintained that they couldn't extend the timing for my decision any longer, but offered me a same-day follow-up appointment.  Although I couldn't make it to the follow-up, I thought this demonstrated a good-faith effort to give me a good value, which I appreciated. (+1)

Over all, totally worth the discounted price.  However, the customer service is not polished enough to motivate me to pay full price for the services - or at least, not without trying out other providers in the area.  If Aura had tweaked a couple of things, such as allowing the upgrade on a per-appointment basis, sending me full instructions before my appointment, etc., then I'd be more inclined to pay full price there once my Groupon package runs out.

I love Aura Skin Spa, I began treatments there a year ago. Every other month I have been receiving a facial, that combined with the products I use daily, I have had GREAT results. Their esthetician, Susan, is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable- I truly look forward to my visits. (I had light acne, I pick, and I have scars from years of this- also needed a general evening in my skin tone)
My experience has been fantastic and well worth the (full priced) money I have spent. It is my skin, it is my face, and I want it to age gracefully with me.
I am not sure why others on here have had bad experiences- perhaps the energy you project out influences the energy you receive

I don't write many yelp reviews unless I have a really good or really bad experience.  This review definitely falls into the category of far exceeding expectations!  I went to Aura for botox on the recommendation of a co-worker who was raving about her first visit with the technician, Jennifer.

From the moment I walked in the door, I was impressed with the entire experience.  The front staff were very professional, yet warm and friendly.  I appreciated the clean, hip, but still very "medical spa" vibe of the place.  Going w/ my co-worker's recommendation, I requested the technician, Jennifer, a registered nurse (who is a UC Berkeley grad and a former labor and delivery nurse at the SF General Hospital I learned!).

Jennifer clearly explained the entire process since it was my first time.  Her confidence and skill made me feel totally at ease immediately.  The procedure was virtually pain-free and I love the results.  I will definitely be back for more botox treatments, and hope to try some of the other services they offer like those photo facials or maybe the eyelash lengthening treatment.

could i give this place no stars? that's what they deserve...
I bought a Groupon, and was very excited about finally getting the hair removal treatment. Called the spa, left a message. Didn't get a call-back. again, and again, and again. not good.

when i finally do speak to someone, she is rude, really rude, and says my Groupon does not cover the service i am looking for, even though it is not mentioned in the fine print. But of course i can pay extra to get that done. MeThinksNot.

there are too many good places in town to bother with people who are unpleasant. giving it a miss...

The most beautiful spa I've seen in the city. It looks tiny from outside, but once you pass the curtain, there are several big private rooms and a very spacious waiting room. They give you tea, coffee, and some snacks there as well. I almost never meet other customers before my punani got lasered. That's good since I'm usually kinda nervous. That thing is painful.

The laser technician has always been pretty friendly. They even give you some balls that you can squeeze while getting your laser done.

I've done 3 treatments and am quite pleased with the result so far.

I purchased the groupon deal for laser hair removal and it has turned out to be a happy purchase!

The staff is very nice and the treatment wasn't too painful. I was that annoying person who didn't follow the prep directions until the last minute and during the 3 times I called 24 hours before my session they were completely nice and helpful. The nurse practitioner Nita did a great job of calming my nerves and explaining the process as well as answering a couple of my questions about their skin care lines. They carry lots of great skin care products and I'm going to have to leave my credit card in the car to not go crazy with them.

My session was so quick that I will be sticking to one-hour street parking in the future instead of the garage at 170 Columbus. One hour is plenty of time to get zapped and walk up and down Columbus!

Their 5th star was earned with the yummy snacks in the waiting room. Fun sized snickers- heck yeahhhh!  Granola Bars and Tea (breakfast anyone?)

I will update my review again once my sessions are over.

I first heard about the Spa Week $50 treatments through my sister. I ended up Yelp-ing all of the participating spas in San Francisco specializing in microderbrasion. I read the reviews and decided to come in and try the microderbrasion out.

Larry scheduled the appointment with me and was nice through the entire booking process. Anna, the medical aesthetician, talked me out of getting a microderbrasion and insisted I should go with the Micropeel treatment. What irked me was when she was popping my active pimples with a metal pick and I asked her what she was doing and she said to get rid of my "toxins." What does this mean? I have no idea. At the end of the procedure, my face was recovering from blood and the popped pimples. This will help "clear" my face.

Now, over a month later, there has been no improvements. I understand this is a process and I would have to go through multiple treatments to see results (as I have been told by Larry and Anna), but there has been none at all. I'm pretty disappointed with the results, or lack there of.

Although, I am disappointed with the results, I am giving it two stars because Larry did not pressure me into purchasing anything or further  treatments. However, I will not return.

So far I have had a great experience with Aura Skin Spa.  I asked a lot of questions over the phone in advance about my laser hair removal Groupon, and I made sure I knew exactly what my package purchase (I wanted an upgrade to Extended Bikini) would get me, so there were no surprises when I got there, and they explained everything very thoroughly.

The nurse/technician's bedside manner was very good and I'm excited to see my hair going away!  I'll need further sessions but this is normal.

Thanks to my latest IPL treatment at Aura, my skin looks really nice.  My complexion is more even, most of the sun spots are gone and most of the once large pores on my nose have now been minimized.  I look healthy and well-rested.  I look like me at my very best.  Why the change of heart?  Let me explain.

Shortly after posting my last update, I was contacted by one of the co-founders of Aura Skin Spa.  He offered me the opportunity to come in and have the IPL treatment redone, as I stated in the update that I felt as if the results from my last visit were mediocre.  In addition, he offered to refund the balance of the package I had purchased if I was not completely satisfied with the results this time around.  As far as a customer satisfaction policy goes, it truly can't get any better than this. --5 stars for a 100% satisfaction guarantee

During my visit, Maureen administered the IPL treatment.  I was told that she has eight years of experience in performing IPL and, from what I observed, she demonstrated a clear proficiency and professionalism.  Maureen executed the procedure with focus and ease in a way that those with supreme confidence in their knowledge and ability often do.  She also managed to do this in an unpretentious and seemingly effortless manner.   To date, I have had 5 IPL treatments performed by 3 different R.N.s.  I am happy to report that my treatment with Maureen has been the swiftness and most pain-free of all of them.  --5 stars for Maureen's expertise

My overall experience at Aura Skin Spa was relaxing and pleasurable.  The spa environment is one of pure tranquility, understated professionalism, pristine cleanliness, and attention to detail.  You can see that a good deal of thought has gone into considering the experience from the customer's perspective.  The owner really went out of his way to be kind and friendly this time around and, although it wasn't expected on my part, I very much noticed and appreciated his effort.  (I wish I had his gorgeous skin.  His face is a walking advertisement for the spa!)  As always, there were no suggestions to purchase any products or more services.  They were also very understanding when, after being pulled over for speeding, I had to cancel an appointment at the last minute. --5 stars for creating an excellent, client-focused spa experience

I walked out of Aura with a bounce in my step, my skin feeling refreshed and knowing that, although it already looked good, my skin would approach appearing fabulous by the end of the weekend. Thank you Aura Skin Spa for restoring my faith!

I was really excited when I first bought my Groupon because I have been looking around for a go-to place for laser and this was a perfect opportunity to try this place out and not go for broke. After reading some of the reviews I started to get nervous about the services, but decided to go through with it anyways.

I had an appointment on a Saturday and they called to cancel me the day before. I rescheduled for the next Saturday, and again they called and canceled me the day before. I was frustrated because it was such late notice but a woman by the name of Yasmine said they would give me an additional 15 minute laser session at no cost for all of the trouble. And if that is honored, then I am completely happy.

The experience itself was great. I wish I could remember the name of the woman that performed my laser (I will revise this once I do). A second woman was in the room, as she was in training. They both were nice and kept the conversation going, which really helps distract you from the pain. I felt like the woman performing the laser treatment was honestly giving me a great treatment! Even after the timer went off she continued to finish the areas we had talked about getting to (talk about amazing service!). I was so pleased and happy with my experience and so far the results are great. Some of my veins just vanished and the rest are a little red, but I expect them to heal nicely.

I will continue to update this review after each of my following appointments to keep you posted. So far, I am happy to say this may become my new go-to place for laser!

    1) Price was NOT as quoted, make sure you know how much it will be at the end before you start a procedure. I think they have a very 'creative' marketing director.
    2) I had botox 2 months ago and it's already worn off. I wonder how much saline they pumped into my face?
    3) Definitely won't go back.

What is the recourse on Botox fakers? I guess I could call the Medical Board....

Aura is a fantastic find in what is getting to be a very crowded space  - med-spas.

I've been here twice and both facials were done by a doctor.  They actually take skin care seriously and are not just trying to run people through with a cookie cutter approach. This place is top notch. And, best of all, their prices are extremely reasonable compared to their (often lower quality) competitors in town.   The staff here is helpful and very very pleasant. Neither time was even asked to buy products - a trick I almost always fall for! Its nice not to be pressured to spend even more money on the way out the door. Kudos!

OK I went to get a facial at Aura Skin Spa based on the other reviews and I have to say I was completely underwhelmed and I mean really undewhelmed.  The women who did my facial was totally unprofessional and all she did was talk about her boyfriend.  When I asked her about my skin and suggestions on products and treatments she didn't seem interested or care.  She actually asked me what treatments I wanted...."isn't she the expert" or at least the knowledgeble person here regarding skin, treatments, products, conditions, etc.....I mean I would never go back and recommend lots of other places in the city.

She left the room during my susposed hour and a half facial for about 30 mins totaly...lI'm iterally laying on a table stinging and having the treatment harden on my face till I couldn't move my lips...not good.  I felt overall the waiting room and decor was nice but the actual procedure rooms were out of date and hospital like with white lights and you could hear all the other procedures going on around you...not at all soothing.  And all this fun for $250!  Outrageous!

I recommend International Orange on Filmore or Dermalodgue in Noe...for a MUCH BETTER experience.

Dragged in here by the GF who wanted to do something together.  I dunno, I might be vain about some stuff, but do I really care enough to do this?  She selected IPL for me.  Really?  I don't have brown spots.  Turns out I did.  The occasional freckle here and there.  I know this because after the first treatment they all turn super dark so they are noticeable.  Zap, they turn dark, then they fall off.  No more freckles.  Absolutely incredible.  Also, some redness and sensitivity on my cheeks - gone.  Completely gone.  How is that possible?  How cool is this thing!!!!

So had to go back a few times for the treatment to work completely, and met the owners, Larry & Claudia, They are the nicest people!   They truly care about the welfare and results of their clients.  In fact, Jill (patient coordinator?) and everyone else we dealt with at Aura is super friendly and helpful.   They are all just so calm and chill, that you kind of forget you are in a medical facility.  Which is also a very stylish and tastefully done space, I might add.

Anyway, back to Larry & Claudia: that first time they talked the GF out of the IPL.  It wasn't easy, she really wanted it, but they said she wouldn't get great results.  The GF was insistent despite the lowered expectations, and L & C could have just as easily shut their mouths, let the customer have what she wanted, and taken our money.  But that's not their way.  In the end everyone walked away happy, and we had a level of trust and respect in these people and their business not often accorded to complete strangers.

This was a few months ago and the GF still goes for other stuff and has recommended the place to many of her friends who are similarly thrilled with both the results and the highly personalized service.
