I come here from downtown (since 1995) just to get my hair cut with Trina; she is the best!  All the other staff (especially Jenn) are super friendly.  THANKS for many years of helping me look good!

I work in Metrotown mall and originally started going to Aura because it was convenient after work. I expected it to be like your standard mall salon (i.e. Chatters) but I was paired with Teema and she is phenomenal. She knew exactly what my hair type needed (it's very thick and hard to work with so she layered it and made it feel so much lighter) and she actually let me leave the store with the style I wanted (straightened rather than pushed up with volume and made to look like 80's country hair. I don't know why most stylists are attached to that look.)

I've had my hair done by a few of the other stylists there and they all seem to actually know what they're doing. I doubt I'll ever go anywhere else, although I would highly recommend my stylist Teema, she's fantastic.

Getting a haircut in a MALL?  Taking your  life into your hands!!  But...my stylist back home charges me $60 for a glorified trim & I go home with a wet head.  I'm bored to tears with her.  So...on vacation from Napa Valley, CA to Vancouver, BC & want to find someone to do it, for better or for worse - hoping, of course, that I love it.

We happened to be wandering through Metrotown one day (because there's a lovely Lush there!) and came across Aura - good prices, so I thought, well, it's as good a place as any....and sat myself in Soo's chair.  I told her a bit about myself (where I part my hair, restrictions because of work, what I don't like about my current stylist, my hair type, not wanting to lose much length, etc) and she got to hacking...and boy, did she hack!!  But don't get me wrong - this is not a complaint.  I have LOTS of fine-ish, medium to long, naturally wavy hair.  All my layers had grown out and it was HEAVY and blah, blah, blah.  Soo took SOOOOO much weight off & gave me lots & lots of layers, it honestly feels VERY modern & rock star now!  It swings, my wave is back & better than ever...I really do feel like a million bucks, for about HALF what I pay around here.
    GO.

The only caveat?  Now I'm home & have to find someone equally fantastic AGAIN.  Wish I lived closer.

I decided to get  a quick cut at Aura in Metropolis as it seemed cheap and convenient. I was wrong on both counts. This was a big mistake!
I looked at the price list and it said a haircut for medium hair was $32. Not too bad. I let the stylist (Sherm) know that I wanted a cut and that I would not need anything else as I had just washed my hair and it was still damp.
We bypassed the sinks and went straight to the chair for my cut. I showed her the length I wanted it and she said she needed to flat iron it to see how much to cut and asked me if I would mind this. I said ok.  She didn't put any product on and blow dryed and flat ironed my hair and cut it. I was charged $50 plus tax. I was in a rush and not paying attention so I paid that and gave her a $7 tip.
I came back later the same day after finishing my shopping and realizing I had been ripped off. I noticed I had been charged for a "cut style and finish" at $45 plus $5 for a flat iron!
the cut style and finish is supposed to include a shampoo, conditioner, and scalp massage none of which I asked for or received.
I was told they could do nothing but I coudl email them and they would see what they could fo about a refund. I emailed twice.. no reply. called and asked to speak to the manager. I was told he would call me back that day. the manager Pasquale Martino is obviously a cheap coward because he never called me back nor did the woman I spoke with on the phone. when i called back i was told he was gone now but had denied my request for a refund as too much time had now passed.
no apology from anyone I spoke to.. no call back.. no reply to my two emails..nothing!
I will never step foot in this salon again as I feel totally ripped off, lied too and disrespected
I hope others will heed my warning so the same doesn't happen to you!

I've been getting my hair cut and coloured by Rada at this salon for a few years now. I always get compliments on the highlights and she's a sweet lady, I definitely recommend her.

My friend got married a few weeks ago and we came to Aura for our up-dos. The wedding was a Celtic/Medieval theme and they did a great job. Reg did my hair in all kinds of braids and knots - the staff members were stopping by to watch in awe as his fingers flew.  He was also a hoot! Bernice did the bride's hair in a lovely updo with soft curls that incorporated a special hair comb. Bernice came in early to start on my friend and made sure that everything was clean and covered up because the bride had to wear her dress to the salon due to dress-getting-on issues.

The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the makeup application - the girl I had seemed pretty inexperienced and spent about a third of the time on me that her colleague spent on the bride. They had to share a makeup case and a room, so they were getting in each other's light and having to wait for the cosmetics. Also, they only use lip gloss, not long-lasting lipstick and they use a brand not sold in stores (which they don't sell), so if you want lip colour that lasted longer than a couple of hours (mine was wearing off before we even got to the wedding), you 're hooped. The girl recommended either that I touched up with what I had at home (I own 1 lipstick and one crazy-pink gloss that was a mistake - there's a reason I'm coming in for makeup help) or share with "the other girls" (there was no-one else there with us, I was the entire bridal party).

So, for makeup we probably should've gone to MAC or something, but the hair was great. And for regular hairdressing, Aura's a good spot.

A few years ago I lost my colourist (Lost as in the salon owner said she didn't show up one day and told everyone she left the province or the country !!! WTF ?!)  So, I went to a couple of other places that TOTALLY ruined my hair -- imagine orange, imagine stripey, imagine dry, nest-like hair.  Then, in desperation, I came to Aura to see if someone could miraculously correct or at least make my hair somewhat presentable.  I've been going to Grace @ Aura to get my hair done ever since.  My colour looks natural, but better.  It's better suited to my skin colour.  It doesn't get crispy dry.  It looks healthy.
Thanks to Grace and her knowledge about colouring, I get more compliments every time I get my hair done.  I won't go anywhere else.
