I hit Augusta House last night for Reality Bytes. The night is organized by my brother and his wife, so I'm a little too biased to comment on it, but I can review the space! I like to dance, but I'm claustrophobic. I need some real estate, and a crowd that respects a women's right to cut a rug without being jostled around by strangers. Augusta House affords both. The dance floor is spacious. The bar is a comfortable distance from it, so people waiting to get a drink aren't in the way.
The bar prices are very reasonable, and a mixed drink actually has
alcohol in it. The bartenders are fast and attentive.
It might not be the first thing people talk about when reviewing a bar, but I do like the fact that there are four stalls in the ladies' washroom. Let's face it; nobody wants to wait when you gotta go, so that's an added bonus. -

I've been here quite a few times, first for a Yelp Elite event and then for several of the Reality Bytes 90s music nights on random Saturdays.
Pros:
-Nice decor
-No cover
-Really cheap drinks
-Lots of seating
-Not too crowded
Cons:
-Staff always clear my drinks before I finish them. Keep a close eye out!
-Sound system is shitty
-Too empty sometimes (lets party!) -

I have spent a lot of nights at/outside smoking in front of August House, most often for Business Women's Special, an amazing dance party that takes place on the second Saturday night of each month.
Bouncers know me by now and are friendly enough, and the bartenders are sweet and mix my drinks and shots well!
Sound system and heat/AC situation can be glitchy, but for the cost and the great crowds, I'm a fan. -

I have been to some pretty spectacular events at Augusta House in the past. They have the ability to book some of the best DJs in the city, and they were also host to a legendary charity event for the Philippines last year -- hundreds of people rammed outside trying to get in.
The venue is very spacious. I think it holds well over 200 people comfortably. There's a nice sized danced floor right in front of the DJ booth with some pretty cool disco lights. Sound system is not the greatest and gets drowned out heavily the more packed/loud the place is, but with all the noise complaints in Kensington it's sort of hard to avoid.
The drinks are dead cheap. They have lots of drink specials before midnight so if you like to pound back 3 dollar shots and such then you might want to get there early for an event. The men's washroom is very small and cramped though. If you were to get 4-5 dudes in there at once it could get very uncomfortable.
The staff has always been super nice to me. If you can hit this place on the right night it really is a wonderful time. Lots of places to sit down and relax if you're not the dancing type. Even a pool table at the back if you really have no interest in the performances. Oh, and they only take cash at the bar so come prepared, though they have an ATM on site as well.Listed in: Reviews of the Day

I came here with a gaggle of Yelpers for Reality Bytes, a 90's dance night. Oh, how the booze flowed. The bartenders are awesome and the prices are right (a rail double vodka soda is $9). Despite the poor quality sound system and a few glitches by the DJs, we still danced our asses off. It was good times, and a fun, chilled out, unpretentious crowd. I would definitely go back, especially if dancing machines Tara Z and Elaine K are going to be there. :D

I'm not promising every night is as awesome as nineties night, but if they are, you need to get off your ass and go. Seriously. Get there early to chug three dollar drinks and then burn them all off on the dance floor; the music is incredible and people are totally friendly (when your friends get tired and decide they're done dancing, you can always find strangers who'll welcome you into their dancing circle.)

I've only been here a few times, but I always seem to have fun. Was itching to get out of the house last night, and couldn't decide where to go...enticed by the promise of "House music with a French touch" I strapped on my dancin' shoes and off I went to Augusta House.
Indeed, the music was great. I think they have different music depending on the night you go, but when I've been it's always been some type of house or electro. The dance floor is small, but adequate. And if dancing's not your thing there's plenty of tables, chairs and couches for hanging out. Like a lot of places this spot doesn't fill up until later in the night (last night it was almost empty until 11:30 pm) which can be good or bad depending on what you're looking for.
Definitely a relaxed environment...no need to worry about a dress code or anything like that. Overall the people were pretty awesome. Yes, lots of hipsters, but that's pretty unavoidable in this part of town. Another big plus is that it's not sketchy at all. I find that often when I go dancing the club/patrons are either way pretentious or way sketchy (or both) but as I mentioned, Augusta is definitely a little different. I tend to go out by myself and it's nice to feel at ease like that.
Also--cheap drinks. Who doesn't appreciate that? I think shots are like $3 all night...not too shabby.
Will definitely be back! -

I have been here on several occasions, for clubbing, special events and even a baby shower. It's a spacious venue that can hold an ample crowd yet is also cushy at the same time. The crowd that usually gathers here are hipsters and downtowners that offer little pretense and and a lot of flair. Drinks are great and they serve delicious appetizers during held events, definitely worth the trip downtown.

Okay I feel bad giving only 3 stars. I would give it 4 but as soon as I walked in the smell of moth balls killed me. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a good smelly dive bar, but my smelly criteria does not include moth balls. I later found out the source was coming from the urinals - could they not have used pucks or ice? For clarity I did not go in to verify for myself.
I would go back as one of my friends spins there and he is amazing. Would I go hang out there on a regular night? Probably not. Would I go back at all? Yes. Is this review useful? Probably not. -

Despite a couple really awful nights at this bar, I still do enjoy the place. Because, really, how can you not? Cheap booze, decent service, adequately-sized dance floor, and pool tables and chairs in the back, not to mention, when it's fun here, it's been really really fun.
It can go from being really crowded to dead empty depending on what's happening that night, but it's usually pretty manageable either way, and you won't have to wait in line for half the night like at the Boat next door.
Augusta House is much prettier than the Boat, not quite as stinky yet, and they have a bigger bar with cheaper drinks (I know I already said that, but it's such a big selling point). Sadly, it is not somewhere you can go to escape hipsters and all their annoying habits (you know, drugs and stuff), but some nights the place just fills up with the right kind of people and things go smoothly.
And yes to the Jager. $3 shots. -

Augusta House used to be an after hours, or at least that's what it was the last time I was there, but now it's a respectable joint.
The owners used to own White Orchid (which is now Zed) and they have taken that eclectic booking policy with them to the new joint.
It's not huge, and it's not flashy, but it's all you need.
The dance floor goes off for the right event, but there's also a pool table and couches if you wanna just hang.
It's an event driven place like The Boat so it's completely different musically and in terms of crowd depending on when you go.
Drinks are super cheap and there's always specials. Best of all, you can get Asian-fusion take away late night.
Totally a local, family joint for those looking for a low profile time built on friends and not flash. -

If you want to go to a place that is pretty relaxed and have a drink, where the bar staff are friendly and cool then this is a perfect choice. For some reason they love Jagermeister here, especially with Red Bull. The Red Bull they serve is like the one from Thailand, so the bottles look different but I think it's really the same thing inside. That's a metaphor for something. Some nights it can be rammed, like one night during TIFF 08 there was an after-party for a small film here so it was crowded. Other nights it is more chill, as Anna said it depends on the event. But you won't line up, which is good. If you want to line up you would probably walk up to the other end of Augusta and line up at Supermarket.

Pretty chill place to kick back and have a few. Never has a line, and was actually pretty busy on a Saturday night. They have a good sized dance floor for a venue this size, and $6 Jager-Bombs - excellent! They don't use real Red Bull though - it's like a President's Choice version or something that lacks the fizz & flavour of real Red Bull.
