I concur with my other esteemed reviewers.

August 8 is a gustatory goldmine!  I have been there with friends and family, and we all agree - it is probably the best sushi place for a raduis of maybe 200 miles.

And the bonus is, that they serve dim sum as well as sushi.  No other sushi restaurant that I know of serves it (except the Mandarin during their dumpling festival)!

August 8 is located in a tiny plaza in the heart of downtown Hamilton.  It is not huge, but it manages to seat a lot of people - which is good, because it is ALWAYS busy!

Now, let me tell you about the food:  whatever dish is supposed to be cold, borders on freezing, and whatever dish is supposed to be hot, is piping - the way it should be (keep a glass of water near you to extinquish the burning in your mouth, or wait a few minutes for your hot food to cool before digging in)!

You can tell that they use only the best ingredients in their items, and everything is prepared with great care and artistry.  Their menu is also the largest I have seen in a sushi restaurant.

The staff are young men and women (possibly university students), who are very sweet and polite.  yes, they do sometimes forget orders, or mix items up, but they are so adorable, and the food is so good, that you can't be mad at them!

I give August 8 the highest rating, because they deserve it.  See for yourself!

This is by far the best ACYE in the Hamilton area and beats out the majority of places I've tried around North America.

They have a generous sushi menu and the fish is always fresh and the rice tasty and not overly salty.  Miso soup is a good accompaniment, and they have a hot & sour soup of the sweet variety which is pretty good.  The usual grilled items but the sauces on the terriyakis, Miami ribs, and mango chicken are really good.

But what really sets them apart is the Dim Sum offerings.  My son gorges on the steamed beef balls and I always order the chicken feet, something no other AYCE I've been to offers.

If it wasn't for the usual forgetting of things you've ordered, they'd easily merit five stars.  They also slow down a bit with second and subsequent orders, but that could also be because we tend to arrive early when it's still empty, and leave when the place has filled up for lunch.

In summary, wonderful AYCE, well worth the price; great for taking young kids since they charge a dollar per age above 2!

Honestly people, it doesn't get any better than this. Took my parents out for dinner on Christmas Eve here, and loved every minute of it.

This location used to be a purely dim sum place... and its roots are what separate it from the slew of purely sushi all-you-can-eat places in the Hammer -- the addition of dim sum to the menu. To me, this variety makes all the difference.

It was fairly empty because of the holiday so we didn't have the same issue with service or forgotten orders other reviewers had -- to the contrary, I had three different servers come over the course of one minute asking me if they could refill my Coke. And I did refill my Coke, and it was delicious, thanks.

I don't promote eating disorders, but incidentally starving myself all day long and stuffing my face full for the entire meal was a good choice, I must say. Top picks include the hot and sour soup, the eggplant-sandwiched shrimp, spicy salmon rolls, and the perfectly marinated mixed vegetables. Sesame balls for dessert. And Coke goes well.

If you're hitting Hamilton (and I'm sorry if you are), August 8 ranks top points for attentive and friendly service, a fresh and robust menu, chill ambience, and an impeccable dollar-to-value ratio. The website tells me they do delivery... Merry Christmas to me.

The select of Sushi and Dim Sum on the AYCE menu is quite good and the items were of reasonably good quality if not exceptional.  Decor is pleasant but could be a bit mellower.

The drawback here was the service - they seem to have a lot of trouble getting orders correct.

This place is one of my staples with my co-workers who enjoy AYCC restaurants.  (All You Can CRAM)

They have a great selection of excellent food, but make sure you get everything you asked for.  They often "forget" when you're with larger groups.

Don't be all polite/western at this place.  Wave your arms at the server and ask again.  If you sit politely and wait in your passive-aggressive stupor giving the servers cut-eye, they won't know what the heck your problem is.  Wave your arm, ask again for what you missed.  It will appear, and you will be happy.

The quality of food is excellent.  It's not award winning but it is tasty with a fantastic variety.

    $19.99 for AYCC dinner.

    Awesome!

ORDER THE FIRST ITEM ON THE MENU! TENDERLOIN STEAK!
You will not regret it. Best thing they have. beeeefy.

In general, the best place for dim-sum and the like in Hamilton. I don't really enjoy sushi, as I hate the taste of seaweed, but they have plenty on the menu here that I do enjoy, aside from the sushi.

LIke the other reviewers said, as with every other sushi place I've ever been to, they do start to "forget" your orders after a while, but thats kinda industry standard at this point.

I have only been to a sushi bar at one place prior to this, which was this place on Spadina...I think Simon Sushi. So, I am not a connoisseur of any sort..so keep that at mind.

Having said that, this place is awesome! It has a very elaborate menu...you got sushi, sashimi (dinner only), tempura, dim-sum, hand-rolls, maki-roll...the list goes on! There are many types of sushi and many types of sashimi (salmon, tuna, etc, etc). Check out their menu...http://www.august8.ca/
They were all pretty good, I'm not a soy sauce fan...I prefer my sushi au naturel, so if you feel the same way...let them know so they don't pre-drizzle (sounds weird) your sushi with soy sauce. All in all, the menu is good...very elaborate with many items.

In terms of quality, I don't think there was anything wrong...although I only had sushi and the odd shrimp tempura. The people I was with had some type of noodles, they didn't seem to like it. Heads up, they charge you for unfinished items and there is a 2hr table limit.

I did find the service somewhat lacking, only when it came to getting your orders. The waiter/waitress would come, you would make your order (you pick a type of roll, and how many pieces of it you want) and they will then bring it back...assuming they don't forget. I think they do forget some times. At one point, it had been 20 minutes since we ordered and nothing came to our table, we asked them again if they got our order...they asked what it was and came back around 2-3 minutes later. Wasn't that bad, but I saw many people ordering in large batches - so its probably best to go that way.

I spent $22.59 for dinner, I thought it was perfectly OK. Had tons of sushi, which I love for it's unique texture complex flavors. Nothing bad to say, it was a great place...and I will see myself there perhaps again throughout the summer :D

I want a place like this in Seattle! i was visiting some cousins in Hamilton when one of them got married recently and we came here on my last night in town.

Super reasonable, it's about $20 for all you can eat form their menu: dim sum, teppanyaki, sushi, and other Asian dishes. I loved the variety.

A word to the wise: be clear if you only want ONE order of something. The waiter may just bring out 2 plates of something for the table when you were the only one who wanted to try it in the first place. '

I'm going to keep hoping someone in Seattle opens something like this soon!

Absolutely fantastic for for the price.
I don't know anywhere else in the Hamilton area where I feel I get such quality and value, except at the other August 8 on Brant st in Burlington.

Don't let 'all you can eat' scare you away, this is some quality grub.

I frequent this place almost once a week, so as you might guess I recommend it over all other sushi places in Hamilton - especially on a student budget. ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT

You can leave there with tip and tax on your bill for just about $20 flat.

The food is great, selection unbeatable and the fact they have dim sum also is an added bonus adding 10s of items to the menu. They also offer takeout!

The only complaint might be the service, as they forget your order often (i suggest asking for an order card/sheet).

I recommend the Dragon Rolls and Tempura

This is one of the best sushi places in Hamilton.  It is a type of place where you would order and they come back with everything on a plate.  They have improved because they have a paper system so things are a bit more systematic.  Everything that you order is presented beautifully rather than just throwned together so each plate exciting to see and eat.  The fish is really fresh and selection is decent.  There are also a good selection of hot food too so if you get tired of sushi (why? how?) or would like some other kinds of food there is something there for you.

Not the best sushi place in Hamilton, but it does have advantages that other places don't. The biggest advantage it has is that it's sushi AND dim sum, which means that the menu is bigger than most other sushi places, and it offers more variety. Another advantage is that it's beautiful inside - very classy and well decorated.

It's all you can eat to the table, which means that it's better to bring bigger groups, especially considering the huge variety on the menu - it'll take quite a few visits before you'll have tried everything, and it's all delicious. I really loved the mango chicken in particular - very delicious.

The service is decent, but they do have a tendency to forget that you've ordered an item, or bring you the wrong thing. Sometimes you can also feel a bit ignored if they're busy. The food is worth it though.

August 8 is great, the selection's fairly good and as an added bonus from other sushi restaurants...they have dim sum. The price is like most other all you can eat sushi place: around $11 for lunch and $20 for dinner. Also, like most other places, the service slows down after the second order, and they start "forgetting" what you ordered. As @Rosie R. said, make sure you are CLEAR on your orders. Overall though, it's a great sushi all-you-can restaurant, so try it out!
