*Expensive statement pieces*
I came here as a result of buying two coupons from Living Social: $50 for $100 worth of clothing at Atomic Model. Curious, I stopped by here to see what kind of treasure I could pick up.
At first, I was disappointed. Glancing at the prices (ranging mainly from $200-$400) I felt as if my money had been wasted. I don't want to spend another $100 just to put my coupon to use. Since I was on the phone while I looked at price tags (few things really grabbing my attention) I lingered longer, and this proved to be a good thing. Woohoo! Time well invested.
When I got off the phone, the owner commented on some of the items that I had looked at. While they were pricey, they were interesting, so she and the sales girl picked out a range of fun things for me--things that I would never have picked myself. This was a fantastic experience.
From within the whimsical green hanging 'tent' of a changing room (beautiful, really) I tried on chic numbers and... I was really digging them. They were different (some REALLY different) but they looked amazing on! I felt really avant garde wearing those clothes. Flowy long seemingly shapeless numbers with open shoulders and bold patterns, or striped crop tops--all wild items that I wish I were daring enough to pull off. My favourite piece was a button-up sweater cardigan with a scoop neck in the back. Hard to explain but looked sooo wild. It was over $200 so I passed on it.
I settled on an aquamarine silk flowy dress that the sales girl, 'Wu' had picked out for me. She was amazing. It came to $183 with tax, but with my two coupons, it was it was paid for. I absolutely love it. Best of all, it's something I never would have stumbled on, on my own.
I'd give this place 3.5 stars. The price makes it less accessible but the range of bold styles (true statement pieces) put it upwards of 4.5 stars. If I hadn't been so wonderfully helped though, I'd never have realized how great the pieces actually are.
If Wu is there (petite Asian girl who has amazing fashion sense, is fun, friendly and so happy to help a fashion-challenged gal like me) you're in for a real treat. -

Back in its heyday, Atomic Model was the epitome of West Coast chic. It was hip, relevant and fresh. Yes, was. While it's still a very fashionable boutique, its tenacity as one of Vancouver's prime stylemakers has faded.
The space is still nice and airy, with areas at the back sectioned off with deep purple curtains to make a dressing room. The curvilinear clothing racks on the periphery have a nice aesthetic appeal. It's more the merchandise. Considering the prices commanded for some of the pieces, they don't hold the same up-market appeal and creativity as the things on offer on Main Street or South Granville do. The merchandise leaves something--inspiration, experimentation, imagination--to be desired. -

I feel like the ownership of this boutique has switched hands a few times. Once my favourite boutique, it carried all the latest and hippest upscale brands that no one had even heard of ...times have changed and unfortunately it is no longer what it once was...
It is however, a nice space with a reasonable selection of fashionable items-overpriced but still worthy of a walk through.Listed in: Best places to shop in…
