Review from Brittney K.

This shop is glossy-print heaven! When it comes to shopping for magazines, Atlantic's extensive collection of titles can't be beat. There are magazines for virtually everyone's tastes, ranging from science mags to sports to fashion, and everything in between. They carry all the mainstream titles (Vogue, SI, Today's Parent, Mavlean's...etc...)- but take a peek at some of the more lesser-known titles, as some of them are fantastic, and exclusively availible (in Halifax) at Atlantic News. Fab!
On my most recent trip, I bought a home décor mag, one for dog owners, and my two staples, Glamour and Cosmo! Talk about variety!!
Atlantic news is not only abundantly stocked in newspapers and mags- if you need a road map, this store should be your first stop, especially if you're travelling abroad and your GPS doesn't have mapping data for the country. Planning a trip to Mongolia? There's a map for that at Atlantic (no joke- I was impressed at how many country maps were available).
The service here is excellent- the staff are generally a friendly bunch, and if you go to Atlantic during "quieter periods", they're eager to chat with you, which is really chill. Also, the store is designed to you can pick up a few staples like basic grocery items and/or sip on a coffee while you scope out their seemingly endless aisles of print. -

I don't know why I don't go to Atlantic News more often. Every time I visit I walk out and say "they have the best selection - EVER". I must say that they do have a magazine on almost every subject, from fashion to obscure military and almost anything in between.
The magazines are well organized and always tidy (big complaint with big box stores). The staff seem very friendly and have the patience to hunt down a magazine I am wanting.
I enjoy it there, I really shouldn't wait that long in between visits. -

I don't get into Atlantic News often but that doesn't mean I haven't had a eight-year running crush on this heaven for magazine junkies and the news obsessed. With shelf after shelf of high gloss gorgeousness, this is a great place to pass some time before meeting friends downtown, or stocking up for an afternoon of page-turning in the park.
Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and happy to help but the shop is put together so well that all they really have to do is point someone in the right direction every once in a while. The perfect crew for a gem of a spot!Listed in: South Endery, Morris Street!

I have a rare assortment of magazines that I read, and I can always find them here. Newspapers from around the world, and the people behind the counter are always helpful and friendly.

If you're a voracious magazine reader like I am, then you need to pay a visit to Atlantic News. The only thing that could make me happier than wandering around this store browsing through dozens of interesting mags would be if I could actually afford to buy all I'd like to read.
What's really great about this place is the staff. They're incredibly helpful, friendly, and delightful. When the Chronicle Herald stopped printing my mom's beloved TV guide, this store started bringing ones in from elsewhere in the province. If the delivery didn't make it? They phone her and let her know when they'll expect it in. That? Is Halifax service. -

This spot is pretty sweet!
If you're looking for reading material on any topic, this place is going to have it. With several aisles of magazines organized and labeled like you're in a grocery store it'll be fairly easy to find.
If news is what you're looking for well they're certainly not trying to fool anybody with their name. Numerous different newspaper publications are up to date and available here, and certainly more than I have seen anywhere else.
You can also browse some of their homemade postcards, books, or pick up a few essential grocery items like bread and milk.
This is a fantastic one stop shop for your morning coffee and read. It's also a great spot to pick up a little gift for someone with unique tastes, because if you can write about it, you'll find it at Atlantic News. -

The best selection of magazines that I can find in the city. Carries hard to find titles in a huge variety of genres.

Fashionista alert! Science-nerd alert! Political-fiend alert! You will find magazines galore at this top-notch newsstand. This is the best place in the city to find all of your not so "literature" literature.
The selection is ample and really, you could spend the day just trying to pick out the mag you want most. I don't get over to this shop very often, but when I do I have a delightful time. Vogue and Yoga Journal and The New Yorker - Oh MY!
Atlantic News is highly recommended for the reading and picture perusing masses. This spot serves as the paradigm in casual reads to suit any tastes. -

Although I continue to love and frequent this little magazine shop, I have noticed that the staff are a little lackluster these days. Why so glum atlantic newsies?
I generally expect to pop in and see an array of funky glasses on folks making displays out of Scientific American, but not so of late. Asking for a stamp to add to my order today I felt as though I was really putting this dude out in a major way.
Still great selection in terms of magazines though.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This place gets a high rating from me as a gift shop. Call me crazy or be kind and say I think outside of the box.
Need to get a girl a gift, try an outrageously priced European fashion magazine ( my apologies for stereotyping ). Have a friend from away? Pick up their national newspaper to include with your B Day present to them.
Maybe you just need a pack of gum or cigarettes, but have a look around as they have some very cool pages to thumb through. -

Atlantic News is the best place that I'm aware of to buy newspapers and magazines in Halifax.
What I appreciate particularly about it is that its selection goes beyond Canadian and U.S. newspapers and magazines. It has, for example, quite a good selection of European and South East Asian ones as well.
Also a big plus are the generous opening hours, having long hours seven days a week.
Another plus is that staff are unobstrusive and that you can spend a few minutes looking for something without having ten people ask you whether they can help you find something. At the same time staff seem to be helpful if somebody wants help.
However, there are also two minuses. First, its big shelf with "adult" (what a nice euphemism) magazines (and corresponding customers). Second, and more importantly, they are often slooow in putting new issues of magazines on the shelves (at least for some of the magazines I read), especially if they still have old issues that didn't sell yet. Can take a week and more. I suppose it would be possible to ask them about the new issue and then get it from storage, but I'd prefer to have new issues on the shelf as soon as they arrive. Sadly most stores in Halifax seem to do that, so apart from subscriptions there is no easy way out.
Nonetheless Atlantic News is, overall, one of the best aspects of living in Halifax and a great source for newspapers and magazines. -

To quote the Atlantic News website:
"Atlantic News is a place to pursue your passion; it's a toy store for adults." -Peter Lanyon (Creative Brand and Advertising Consultant).
That's the best possible way to describe why everyone can't help but love Atlantic News. It is undoubtedly (in my mind) the best news stand that I've ever visited , largely due to the fact that there is a new element thrown into my old magazine shopping ritual. That element is of course surprise!
A typical browsing experience will usually leave me wishing that there was something more interesting than the gossip peddled by US Weekly and Star magazine. At Atlantic News there is always something more interesting, but it's up to you to decide what that is. Whether you're interested in house blueprints, teenage vampire movies or puppy dogs, you will be able to find a magazine that fits the bill.
Hot Hint: If you know of a magazine that Atlantic News doesn't carry you can just ask them to order it in, they are always looking for feedback on niche titles. -

Living close to Atlantic News means that I always have a good supply of periodicals nearby. This can come in handy often; the last time I took advantage of it I was sick with the flu and my boyfriend rescued me from a fever with a load of good reading. I'm no doctor but I do believe that Atlantic News is responsible for at least part of my recovery.
The selection in here is diverse and extensive, as far as I can tell. It's a good place to walk through slowly, picking up random titles. They've also got a good stock of candy, soda, phone cards and other sundries.
My favourite feature of the store is that they often have people sitting up in a window display looking out into the street, reading books and magazine. So cute. -

One of the best selections of magazines in the city!
Atlantic News really does have everything you want in a magazine store. Plenty of gossip, beauty, health, wealth, hobby and local magazines to choose from. Its location on Morris street is perfect! Close to residential and student housing. They also have a few snacks here and there along with tons of drinks.
This store might get a fifth star if I could remember a time I walked in and met friendly staff. Now I just turned thirty years old so it could be that my memory is slipping away thanks to my old age, but I can't remember a time I met friendly staff working at Atlantic News. But do I need it? Not really. I'm there for the magazines and the magazines alone. I have enough friends. And the staff are definitely not rude. Just not talkative or smiley.
There is definitely a magazine that will suit your need. I'm a big fan of neuroscience, movies, fitness and money making ideas. So lets just say I always walk out of this store a happy camper. That should give you an idea on the variety.
So if you're looking to read magazines and do not need human contact or conversation, definitely check out Atlantic News. You'll see me there learning about the brain almost every week. -

Atlantic News is easily the best news stand in the city. There are others that come close, but for me personally, there was one simply thing that put Atlantic News over the top.
Backstreets.
Yes, before the official magazine of Springsteen fans essentially became web only, Atlantic News was the only place in the city that carried it. Which meant a lot to a guy as interested in "The Boss" as I am. Since print copies of the magazine have become increasingly scarce I've had to discover new magazines to occupy my time. Atlantic News continues to have me covered.
It's not just the great selection of magazines that makes Atlantic News the best, they also have an incredible selection of newspapers from around the world. You can read Berlins Daily on your lunch break if you choose. I find this incredibly convenient and fascinating at the same time. Who in Halifax is that interested in the daily affairs of the Germans? Whoever they are, they must be just as fond of Atlantic News as I am.
Any time I have a bus to catch, I stop in and pick up a magazine for the trip, sometimes cutting my arrival time very close. That's how much I enjoy checking this place out! Definitely a great spot for news junkies, hobbyists, music lovers and any other demographic that may have a magazine targeted at them. because chances are Atlantic News has it. -

Atlantic News offers the best selection of magazine content within the downtown vicinity. It provides customers an opportunity to browse through a wide range of subject matter and internationally acclaimed magazines. Cars, science, fashion, art, music, business, literature, gardening, crafts..... there is a subject for anyone with an interest.
This is where I stock up on my regulars, while finding some new reads to get excited about as well. Besides a gorging of glossy print, there are treats and the convenient store component of the shop. Service is friendly and discrete.
But go for the magazines. Various newspapers are sold there as well, and periodicals like The New Yorker. Readers, writers and bloggers alike can use Atlantic News as a major resource hub. With its wide range and a larger world scope, its the place to go. -

The best magazine shop in the city, partly because it stocks such a wide range of magazines, but also because the clerks and owners are always willing to help me find something, to the point of special-ordering an obscure title if it's not already in stock. I've had some long and very charmingly word-nerdy conversations with the clerks in this shop.
Great selection that includes local mags and journals, literary journals, gay and lesbian mags, Canadian mags of all stripes and newspapers from all over the world. The Sunday New York Times comes in on Mondays, but it's best to ask them to set one aside for you, because they sell out fast. -

When we moved to Halifax we moaned about not finding magazines like we did back in Toronto. Lucky us, someone introduced us to Atlantic News with the biggest selection of foodie magazines for me and political, business and health for him.
I love the live music on Saturdays and the friendly staff, who will even call you when a specific publication comes in! How's that for service.
The only negative...no Sunday New York Times until 6pm - guess we'll have to find a new Sunday morning ritual of reading the times in bed with a freshly brewed coffee. -
