My gosh, my Indian food craving is not going away it seems! Based on the regular dinner menu experience, Atithi deserves the 5 star upgrade!

The portions are generous. The atmosphere casual, yet has a little sensuality making it perfect for date nights. Service was more attentive and friendly than last time. And the food! Oh my oh my! They were well-received by everyone at the table. The biggest stand out factor for me is that you can actually taste a difference in the sauce for different dishes, as opposed to a big heavy curry mush. Notable hits with me are:

Lamb Palak - lamb chunks in spinach curry sauce. Made exactly the same as last time: lamb was tender and curry refreshing.

Prawn Malai Curry - this coconut curry was TO DIE FOR! The coconut taste was not overpowering. There was a bit of smokiness to the curry that was really unusual.

Butter Chicken - again, the sauce was divine! I didn't feel it was heavy on the butter/cream.

So it's official: Indian cuisine is the new thing for me. I can't wait to try more!

The Lunch Buffet is Great. Atithi always has 5 or 6 Hot Items that are always fresh and tasty.

I believe Atithi has one of the better Indian Buffets in this area because they only prepare the amount of food they need to make for each dish each day.

Also the flavor of the dish's do not bleed together as I some see restaurants that serve buffet style meals do I think do by preparing there dishes in separate clean pots.

I also a enjoy that they have Fresh Salad and Fresh Veggie as option with there every time I been there with there Tandoori Style Chicken and Meatballs and sometimes this even have  dish a fresh fish dish as a choice. Yes there is lots of Value in this Lunch Buffet but this is also as much quality to gos along with the value. They even provide some mango pudding for dessert a nice sweet way to end the meal.

    Under $10 for lunch!
After years of walking by, I stopped in to try out their lunch buffet and am now a regular customer.
Not a huge buffet, but it is tasty and fresh and the trays are constantly being refilled with freshly cooked items.
I am here with my dad at least twice per month.  I have noticed that the restaurant seems to have a loyal lunch clientèle.
Only things that could use improvement are the naan and the frequency of water refills.  1 or 2 rotating items of the day would be nice to have added to the buffet.

In terms of food quality, not bad but there's so much more in the area that's a lot better taste-wise: Akbar's Own or Maurya or even Indian Fusion.

But for the bang, sure, the buffet at $9.95 lunch is a steal!  Great for the offices along Broadway & burrard too...

    Butter chicken's alrighty...

Cute little area w/ free parking in the back, not too many spots.

Passing by the restaurant today reminded me of the time I ate here months ago
    (before I became a yelper).

We were in the area with few friends when we decided to grab some food. I used an app on my iPhone to locate this restaurant and when we got there, it wasn't too busy so we got a table right away.

It was the best East Indian food I've had. I had the captain's curry and it was wonderful. It had a lot of sauce which I really like.
I can't remember what other people had but I often find myself thinking about the curry now and then. I do remember that we shared Okra and they were really good as well.
They had high chairs for our little ones which always is a big plus in my book.

Writing about this place makes me want to have another meal here.

Best Indian lunch buffet in town. They have limited items but all of them made to perfection. The ingredients used were natural. Will definitely go there again. We went there on a week day. The tandoori chicken was out of this world.

When  I go for dinner, I love to try new restaurants.  But when it comes to ethnic cuisine, sometimes one bad experience can spoil it for you and completely turn you off that particular cuisine.  Since I've been introduced to Atithi, I haven't eaten at other Indian restaurants because for me it's unconceivable to think that another Indian restaurant exists that could possible cook better Indian cuisine than what I've had at Atithi.  So instead of subjecting myself to disappointment after disappointment, I prefer to subject myself to what I always know will be a night of culinary curry delights.

Our meal started with the House Specialty - FRANKIE which are Indian egg rolls with tender chicken in exotic spices.  I've never seen this on any menus and I highly recommend them as unlike other "egg  rolls" which are usually deep fried, this has perfectly crisp naan with "thin sheets" of chicken and fresh lettuce that adds a great crispy texture.  The two pools of sauce that came on the side which I thought was a great idea as each person would apply "as needed" were great and had some good spicy heat, although my girlfriend with buds of steel said she didn't experience as many beads of sweat that I did in eating it. The accompanying French Fries we thought were an odd touch, but hey, we ate them right up as they were crispy and not greasy at all.

My girlfriend ordered the PRAWN MALI CURRY which are prawns in tomato coconut Bengal curry made with roasted Garam Masala which is apparently an aromatic mixture of black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, nutmeg and turmeric.  The prawns were big and tender and much to my dismay as I was hoping to steal more than a biteful when she went to the washroom, she left nothing on her plate.  She indicated that this surprised her as she  finally confessed to me that she had been a little apprehensive about dinner as  she had only experienced curries that killed (and she lives in Surrey where curry restaurants ran rampant) and had been pleasantly surprised that she ate it in record time. She also loved the crisp noodles served on top and said they didn't get soggy with the sauce.

Wen I go out to eat, I usually leave with a doggie bag, but every time  I order RAILWAY STATION CURRY which is ubber tender New Zealand lamb cooked with tomatoes and fresh cilantro, there is absolutely nothing left as its not good that I can't stop eating and I absolutely refuse to share, share, share.  Sorry, get your own!

What meal is complete without dessert? Nothing in my view and it should be a law.  So we chose the traditional Gulab Jamun.  These are balls of light cake smothered with honey and served with what I believe are creme brulee chocolate with cardamom.  These can be made with very dense cake, which I find ruins the dessert so it was a delight to end our meal with a light dessert.

I  haven't tried everything on the menu yet, but as I hear Atithi also offers a lunchtime buffet for only $8.95 and ($6.95 to take out), you can bet that I'll  be there more than once.

Hands down my favorite Indian restaurant in Vancouver. The service matches the outstanding quality of the food. I always enjoy whatever is on special, but the jackfruit pakoras are out of this world. The chai is also some of the best I've had in Vancouver. Next time you are craving a memorable Indian dinner...search no further.

This place is good value for your money. I had the  butter chicken served with strawberries. I thought it was strange combination but it actually worked really well. The price of main includes rice and naan which is always nice.  Salads are served around the table with some really tasty chutneys.

If you happen to be in the neighborhood and like to support small business give it a try.

We ordered from here last night. I really wanted to like it, but it was mediocre. The naan was too doughy, the okra was understewed and hard to chew, and we barely got ANY aloo gobi though we paid $11 for it! :(

Also, they didn't honour the $10 off $40 order for us... we just spent sooooo much on what felt like very little food.

    Chana masala score: 3.5/5.

Gotta love Yelp mobile and good timing.

Was indecisive as usual for dinner so whipped out the Yelp app on my Android. Atithi popped up. I knew this was the sister restaurant of nearby Masala Chai (which is awesome for lunch) so checked in.

Bam, check in offer is $10 OFF dinner ($40 minimum). Plus there was some Tweetup event so they gave everyone a free appy, their fish cakes (splendidly spiced) and Chai tea (not to my liking but free!).

Started with jack fruit pakoras (must have, fell in love with these at Masala Chai) and veggie samosas. Beautiful, simple presentation.

For main I had the Railway Station Curry. With a name like that, it beckons to be ordered. Made with New Zealand lamb, tomatoes, and curry, it was tofu-tender and was a flavour journey. Naan was moist and uber fresh.

Going all out, we ended with an order of Gulab jamun. Usually this is a meh dessert but not here. Made fresh to order these are the Indian equivalent to Krispy Creme's original glazed. These balls rock.

Service was genuine, ambiance is cozy with some funky Indian decor. One of the servers is exotically gorgeous (just saying).

Their lunch buffet is supposedly $8.95 (why cook?). Me wants.

By the way, Atithi means 'honoured guest'. True indeed.

    They do have naan!

I came here for the first time in 2011 so the reviews that mentioned no naan might be outdated.  Whew - naan is always a key part of my Indian meals!  It's not the tandoor oven kind, but it's still nice and light.

Great value.  Loved the jackfruit pakoras as well!  Samosas are only okay, only vegetarian style.

I picked a prawn curry for main and it was tasty and a nice amount of heat.  Salads were served around the table.  Tasty chai.

Surprised about their limited amount of their 'special of the day!'.  A group of us were here relatively early on a weeknight and after 2 people in the group wanted the fish feature, the server said they had no more!

    Overall a-okay and inexpensive.

We arrived at this restaurant hungry, knowing that Indian food is usually filling. We started with the jackfruit pakoras, which were exciting because we love jackfruit. However, they didn't taste like jackfruit - mostly just like fried matter.

Our palak paneer and eggplant masala were not bad, but the portions were miniscule considering the price. We were still hungry after finishing our meal, which is rarely the case with such heavy food. The salad was literally two bites, and the food came with small servings of rice and "naan" that seemed more like a flimsy pancake.

Also, when we say "Indian spicy" we mean spicy, and we barely even felt a tingle.

    I'd say go elsewhere.

    Sincerely,

    Earl and Janet

Those jackfruit pakoras were pretty amazing!

Served with a ginger chutney, these were a good start to our meal. The place is small, but clean and nicely decorated. It has some ambiance, with candlelight on the tables.

The menu has a good selection of dishes, but not overwhelming. There's also a mix of West Coast cuisine, with mussels in a curry being their special of the day. I got a Prawn Malai curry.

The food took a while to arrive, but when it did, we were impressed. All their dishes come with naan, rice, and sald. My prawn curry was excellent. The curry a bit on the sweet side, and many fresh prawns were to be found. The rice and naan were a good complement to the dish. Only wish there was more sauce in my dish. I also got their refillable chai which was good (although not refilled much.)

Service was good and friendly. The place is intimate, and we had a great dinner there.

    Lunch buffet for $8.95? Sure!

After reading reviews from others who have frequented Atithi more than once for lunch (Vanfoodster), I decided today was the day to go! (That, and my kitchen is undergoing a demolition right now so I can't really squeeze in to make myself lunch!)

It felt extremely comfortable inside, and I dont mean the chairs were cushy, I mean the staff made you feel welcome and the food was set on the side against the wall as if I was at someone's house and the spread was out for everyone to partake in.

The lunch selections were:  black lentils (super yum!), mango curry with vegetables and paneer (drool!), fish in chili sauce (so good!), roast chicken (tender!), roasted potatoes (nice touch!), sauteed vegetables (zuccini and broccoli with a slight crunch!), butter chicken (sorry, didn't try this one, not a huge fan of butter chicken!).  The dessert selection was rice pudding and the mango mousse, which is what I had (sweet and creamy!)

For the quality and value, this restaurant can't be beat!  I just wish there was parking out back--there seemed to be spots reserved for every other business but Atithi.  Am I blind?

I was happy to see that I wasn't the only table of one in the restaurant.  It seems they do take away since I saw a man fill a take out container at the buffet and pay at the cash.

A small, warm Indian restaurant that is sure to become one of my favourite local haunts.

The samosas were very tasty, served with sweet chili and coriander sauces.  The seasoning and spices were excellent; the only negative was the pastry could have been flakier.

The Bombay Biryani was excellent, being spicy enough to add some heat, but not enough for someone who doesn't like spicy food. The raita (yoghurt with cucumber and mint -- I think) served with the Biryani accompanied it very nicely, adding some coolness along with the spice.  The Aloo Gobi was full of flavour and delicious, with the vegetables being perfectly cooked; there was also the welcome addition of multigrain naan to sop up all the tasty sauces left on the plate. In both cases with the mains, the portions were sized perfectly, with enough to fill but not overload. The only oddity was the addition of a paltry salad of tiny romain pieces with sweet chili salad dressing, which while delicious, was very small and a little out of place.

Finally, the rice pudding was very good, complete with cardamom seeds, but pistachios would have given a welcome crunch and texture.

Service was excellent (as to be expected in such a small, intimate setting), with the welcome suggestion of some delicious, frequently-refilled chai tea (for $2!) to warm up on a rainy day.

I will definitely be returning to Atithi.

I've been here about 4 times so far. This place is cleaner than most Indian restaurants. That's a major plus.

Also, their entrees come with rice, salad and a floppy naan. I'm not sure what it is but it's not the typical airy non-greasy naan. I also like the jackfruit appetizer.

I'm a fan of their monday to friday lunch buffets for under $10 (plus HST of course). The buffet has both vegetarian and non-veg dishes, salads and dessert. I filled up on 1.5 plates and didn't have room for dessert. Next time, I'll pace myself more. I think that time will be Monday.

Starting off, if you haven't been to Bombay, you can atleast taste the food right here in Vancouver. Have the Bombay biryani, and allow the cook to make it as he would make it for himself. Dont alter the spiciness or anything, just accept the food, the way it is.

Its delicious, and the portion sizes are great. Above all the staff is super friendly. Definitely coming back. 4 stars, only because I am saving the five for the best indian restaurant, which is still to be found.

After being warded off by higher price Indian restaurants, we decided to dine at decently priced Atithi...and we were pleasantly surprised! The service was quick and polite and the food was delicious. We had the Rail Station Lamb Curry, Matter Paneer and an okra dish between four people. Most of us hadn't tried okra before, and now we love it! I would definitely recommend this place for a nice meal with friend in which you don't have to shout over  the music to hear what the other people are saying.

I went here with a recommendation from Vanfoodster and it was spot on.

To start, the waitress/owner? brought a small home made pompadom and it was light and soft unlike some of the razor blades they serve in Brick Lane.

Starter was a daily special- the wild cod pakora - a must try. Fantastic pakoras spices combined with perfectly cooked cod goujons. if you love fish and indian food.. you could sit and eat this all night. The pickled turnip and carrot chutney was more of a pickle and was very good accompaniment.

Lamb Palak was buried in spinach providing a good coating and smooth compliment to the lamb, unlike the iron tasting sludges that I have had in the past. The Chicken Chettinad was good, the chicken pieces were high quality and the flavour was good but it did not push my buttons

The best part I was able to save $10 by using my letsgofordinner card - http://www.letsgofordi... tus/Indian/Atithi

The service was very good, the Keiths Pale Ale was well chosen compliment light and picking up all the Indian spices.

With a price of $40-50 for two with good portions. The redemption of our certificate went off without a hitch.

I am going back and telling my Dad an Indian food monster.

Last night a friend of mine wanted to order some food... and since this place is relatively close to my place and we both love indian food, the choice was clear. After we had placed the order for delivery, the very kind woman advised us that unfortunately her driver had called in sick. However they were offering 20% off if customers would be able to pick it up. SOLD! So we picked it up, and to no disappointment. The lady was again very apologetic and kind when we arrived and the food was fantastic. Would definitely eat here again.

Visited this restaurant last weekend. Wow what a good Indian. Took a while to find a good one here in Vancouver. Most I tried were flavourless ( and the cook tried to make up the loss of flavours by cooking everything too spicy/hot ) but this place is just great. Their menu is short but if you can't find what you like they will cook you anything you ask for. Prices are reasonable, small and cosy restaurant. Service was great, kind waitresses and fast service. I will definitely go again.
