I went to this restaurant last week with my boyfriend,. The food was delicious and the service was good. I had the special, which was a lamb dish, and my boyfriend had the salmon. Both were excellent and came quickly. I will definitely go here again!
An added bonus was that we used a coupon from the Entertainment Book, and it had no restrictions (like some do for specials). -

From reading the past reviews, the food at Athene's seems to have a reputation for inconsistent food. I've only been here once, but my experience was absolutely amazing. The restaurant looks tacky and cheap on the outside, but the interior decor is amazing: ancient Greece-themed with paintings, sculptures, and "candle-lit" lamps. The low lighting and Greek music can created a trendy, romantic atmosphere. The waitresses were very nice, and the food was delish! I had the roast lamb with rice and potatoes, which simply blew my socks off. Ah-mazing. Defs will be back.

L.A. has very few Greek restaurants, and the few that exist have Mexicans in the kitchen trying, but not succeeding, to make Greek food. So when I found myself back in Canada, where Greeks are still in the kitchen, figured I would get a reasonably close approximation of good Greek food.
Wrong! We started out okay - the hummos was decent, though the pita bread was ordinary. We asked to sub Greek salad for the rice and potatoes and were told it would cost an extra $2.95. That didn't seem too customer friendly, but okay, we went for it. What we got for $2.95 was a few pieces of chopped up tomato, a shaving of feta cheese (or maybe it wasn't even feta, hard to tell), one or two black olives, and that was it.
We shared the lamb, which was pedestrian, floating in some unrecognizable sauce. I hate to believe that this is the best that Vancouver's Greektown has to offer. -

For a restaurant to survive for 25+ years it has to be consistent and good. For a Greek restaurant to survive in Vancouver's "Greektown" for that long it must be its own odyssey.
We ambled in one evening for an early dinner. The atmosphere is casual but the waitstaff very professional. Being terrible with names, I've completely forgotten what we ordered but the Greek potatoes were delicious and a I enjoyed the rich veggie stew of sorts. Overall a solid dining experience and well-priced. -

I am not a greek food expert, but the food here is consistent, the service is excellent and it leaves you feeling as if you were really company for the family that owns the restaurant. I have not been disappointed. The traditional greek fair is above average. Their pizza is great and so is their bean soup (best I've ever had at a restaurant). (I made a mistake one time of ordering spaghetti and meatballs....like I said it was my mistake!) It is not fine-dining greek, but the relaxing ambiance makes it a good choice if you are into a low-key satisfying meal that is fairly priced.

My one experience with Athene's gives it very high marks. It wasn't even the food. In fact my calamari was a bit burnt. But they way they bent over backwards service-wise made up for it.
I was taking my parents out to dinner when they visited but sadly their visit came when UBC was just gearing up so almost every restaurant on the Broadway strip was full to the brim with college kids. Athene's thankfully was only half-full but sadly the rest was a particularly drunk and boisterous British family reunion. The waiter who served us, and frankly seemed to smoothly run the whole place, easily read in our face that we just wanted any food at any restaurant and to be in and out as quick as possible. He managed our food around that fact and we had a nice quick meal and got out before some of the massive loud groups even had their plates in front of them. It's one thing to still have a place run smoothly when it's full of big crowds but the fact that Athene's showed us personal great service without us even having to ask is a great testament to their quality. -
