Review from Coleen L.
I used to live right across the street from the park and zoo and would come here quite frequently. It is really big and REALLY cheap. Any zoo could use a little updating, but I think this zoo is right where it needs to be for a Winnipeg zoo. The best part is undoubtedly the prairie dogs! The gibbons were also a favorite because they would do all sorts of acrobatic swinging and swaying in their big, tall sanctuary.
I actually rather loved it when they had all the cheesy Halloween decor for Boo at the Zoo, but I'm sort of a Halloween freak. I did attend Boo once and it was quite fun although of course mostly geared toward children. There was one part with zombies that really scared the crap out of me however.
I've been to this zoo every time of year; spring, summer, fall AND winter! The day I went in the winter it was snowing and just beautiful, the animals were still out and it was quite enchanting.
Either way, if you are in Winnipeg for any extended amount of time, and especially if you have children, it's a great little place to spend half a day for moseying and relaxing. It's large with lots of space so people wont get in your way too much. The giftshop isn't half bad either! -
Review from Nicole F.
Oh geez. I was expecting much more than this. My friends and I still had a really good time, but mostly because we were being complete jackasses.
It was pretty empty because we went on a Tuesday afternoon. I don't just mean people. There were almost zero animals in any of the habitats. We saw a variety of big cats, deer and birds. That was pretty much it, and there were a minimal amount of those to begin with.
On a bizarre note, they seemed to have started decorating for Halloween. So half the park had really random shitty Halloween decorations placed along the walking paths. That, and a lot of those face-in-a-hole things that you take lame photos of your friends in... and we sure did! Because there were more of those in the park than any actual animals!
I liked the peacocks that were roaming the park, the fake alligator (no real ones?) and the hilarious male lion that tried to attack an offensively ugly baby stroller through the glass barrier.
I wouldn't say NEVER come here, but.. don't expect too much.Listed in: Winnipeg!
