Possibly the best sushi place you can find in the Burnaby area. I've been coming here for years and everything on their menu tastes delicious! Their Dragon Roll is exceptionally good!

The staff at Asakusa are friendly and came around the right amount of times to check on the patrons and to refill tea.  I wqs quite happy to see that the TV was playing a World Juniors game.

The place was definitely quiet, but that may be because it is a weekday, though many of the sushi places around Metrotown are normally quite busy around dinner time.  It's across the street from the mall, but unfortunately in an area where most businesses around it close at six.

The Burnaby Roll, which I decided to try since it was the day's special, was very flavourful and both the toro and salmon were soft.  However, it wasn't that well made, and was far too big for the pieces to fit in my mouth (which is rather big to begin with!), and biting them caused them to totally fall apart.  The agedashi tofu was a little bland, but the amount was pretty decent for under four dollar!.

This is a good place to get your fill for a reasonable price in a relaxed environment.

Food is cheap and portions are HUGE! But for me it was not so good, as you don't know how to put that sushi rolls into your mouth! Waitress didn't know the menu, on my question "does this roll have avocado inside?" she answered "I guess"... But she was nice to us. The interior, hm... just a cheap old place. Not a place for a date. But what I really liked is the quality and the taste of food! Everything was fresh and very delishius! That's why I think this is the best place for take out!

It sort of gets lost in all the other sushi spots on Kingsway. They have great, filling roll combos for around ten bucks that keep me coming back when I want a cheap, satisfying bite, but for a good meal, I know better places close by. They are really good with tea refills, though and I like the layout of the place, they have a tv for the game and it isn't so crowded and claustrophobic like most Kingsway sushi places.

More than decent! Thank you yelp for pointing the way to this one. Me and some friends were looking for another Japanese joint to try out. We kind of have this mini three people club which has the goal of eating and trying every Japanese restaurant in the lower mainland. Since we started this little thing, we haven't been to the same Japanese restaurant twice as a group. I think this was only our third or fourth trip thought, so we still have a ways to go to try all of the Jap joints in the lower mainland. I think by then I may die of mercury poisoning haha!

The Sushi rolls at Asakusa were very good! We ordered the "Rock and Roll" Platter which was more than enough to feed three people. The Rolls themselves were humungous and delicious. I can't remember all of the rolls it came with, but It definitely had California rolls, dynamite rolls, BC rolls (which are always gross in my opinion, fish skin, ewwwww barf gag!), chopped scallop, salmon and tuna rolls and probably 3 or 4 others I can't remember. The restaurant itself isn't anything special, looks like your typical lower end Japanese restaurant's take on western diners. Gross bathroom, and grimy atmosphere, but all that was made up for by the sushi!

Pretty inexpensive considering its location. You pay for what you get but pretty good size portion.

Oh, wow. I wasn't expecting this...

I entered the store thinking it was a normal sushi bar that of course dominates the lower mainland. The atmosphere was very "bar like" which is very eccentric with a regular sushi bar. The Calgary Flames were playing that night with Edmonton Oilers. I could tell that the people in the sushi bar was having a great time with a pint of Asashi and some sushi rolls on the table. Even though it wasn't our home team people were still cheering and having a ball.

We totally ordered over the amount of what we thought. The rolls were huge in portion and the taste of the sushi was flavorful. I have to categorize this place as junk food sushi, but I can say it is the top of the line because the sushi rolls were fantastic. The only thing I dislike is that the rolls were not well made, because they break easily with my chopsticks skills... Their Tempura was very soggy and not as crispy as I thought, need a lot of work on that too. Their Teriyaki Sushi Rolls were not as flavorful as I thought, but a tad bland though.

Even though we had mediocre sushi, and wasn't really up to my standards, the vibe, the atmosphere of the place really brought my spirits up! I joined in with a pint of Asahi and just cheered on the Calgary Flames!! WOOT WOOT!!

For sure I can say I'll come back on a Canucks night for a special Sushi Sports bar!! :D

After a friend told me this place was surprisingly good, I decided to give it a try!

Came for lunch a couple of days ago with a family member and tried:

Dynamite Roll with Beef Teriyaki ($7.95)
California Roll with Chicken Teriyaki ($7.95)

I can't believe I hadn't come here sooner, especially since I live fairly close!  Although it was packed with people, service was quick and friendly and the food was pretty darn good!

They had several different lunch/dinner combos that were all cheap and looked delicious!

    Cons:

The shrimp tempura in the dynamite roll could have been warmer
There could've been a couple more pieces of chicken in the chicken teriyaki.

Other than that, the price was perfect, it tasted great, it was clean, and everyone was nice!

I will definitely be back to try some more combo items! :)

The reviews are right! After seeing the ridiculous line at Sushi Garden, I don't even know why I bothered, we made our way down to this place. I remember yelp reviews and people liked this place. Guess what? They have chicken teriyaki and beef also! Unlike the other restaurant down the street.  You can order off their lunch menu and for 10.99 sashimi bento box with chicken teriyaki. Food tastes great, service was awesome, prices were sweet. Thanks yelp for being my handy dandy tool.

Sushi Garden was too busy, so we came here instead.

Huge assortment of rolls and sashimi; if only I ate sushi. My sister does though, and she enjoyed her dynamite roll, saying it was very tender (pretty big, too!)

We shared the beef yakiudon and chicken teriyaki (which comes with miso soup and rice). Portions are good, and the prices are very reasonable. The chicken was a tad dry for my liking, but it wasn't too bad.

Not authentic Japanese, but it was a decent meal nonetheless. The service was pretty good, and the food was really quick. Seems like a popular place with the people who live nearby.

I love this sushi place. The staff are friendly, efficient and the sushi is great. I have taken many visiting friends here instead of hauling them downtown and it has been met with them wanting to go back instead of going out for different types of food.

I go here about once a week or two.  It's the best in the area as far as price and quantity, as well as quality.  I am a big fan of the gomae here, though the sauce is a bit inconsistent from week to week, but good.

Sometimes it can get pretty packed and space is limited, so there is a lot of bumping and people sitting very close.  The service is okay, but not the greatest.  The best is at the sushi bar, where we were treated with much friendlier service.  It took them about a year to recognize us as regulars in the main dining area, though.  But now they know what we want went we come in.

When they have it, the bbq black cod special is great, and we always get a Mexico roll.

I usually don't eat here nearly as often as I would like to! One of the best sushi places I've been to. Super close to Metrotown, the local meet-up place for my friends and I. (Right across the street, actually!) Whenever someone brings up that they're craving the sushi goodness, Asakusa is always my first suggestion.

You definitely have to time it right. The place is super small, a little hole in the wall, and can get really full really fast, especially on a Friday night. Regular weekday nights are usually fair game though. Not the most suitable restaurant for big parties, but if you're in the neighborhood and a feeling a bit peckish, Asakusa is not only some of the best sushi you'll probably taste, but will probably be among the cheapest.

    YYYYUUUUMMM!!!

By far, the best sushi place in town! Not a fancy place, not a lot of room, people are placed close together so you're going to end up saying "Oops! Sorry!" often in the evening.

Vancouver Roll rocks, sauce for the terriaki beef and chicken ROCK. The salmon sashimi is always FRESH. Oysters are good. I sometimes find the Gyozas are a bit burnt and once in awhile the Gomaae is a little too heavy on the sauce.

    Prices are reasonable

I've taken many people here and they always go back. Have picked up platters here for many home parties and I now make sure to grab menus with me - people want to know where I went, what I brought and on more than a few occasions, I've had to run back out to get more because everything was polished off so quickly!

I recommend take out so you don't feel crowded.

I thought about Sushi Garden when i was in Metrotown because i've heard so much about it. I went, saw a lineup and decided to try this place instead. I notice many people have mentioned coming here because of Sushi Garden's line ups. Guess it's a good thing for Asakusa.

They had tons of different items to pick from. Went for the standard California, Dynamite and Tuna roll, which were all very good. My sashimi did not taste fresh.

sushi garden had a hugeass line up!! so we can here instead...
me and 3 girl friends came here after one of my power lifting classes... we all KILLED the weights so we were HUNGRY.
me and a friend shared the silver platter (cali roll, dynamite roll, tuna roll, salmon roll, 2 pcs each: salmon/tuna/ebi sushi), salmon sashimi and a gommae.  yeah...just 2 little girls... ;)
the gommae was so yummy! not the BEST ive had, but definitely one of the better.  tasted fresher..the sauce was just a tad on the watery side though.  you also get a FULL bowl, not a measly finger scoop.
the sushi pieces are on the bigger side too..although, it was mostly rice.  quality of fish isn't top notch, but for the prices, pretty darn good.  we both paid $15 each for all the food we got.

it was rather busy as well....small, simple..run by vietnamese.... family owned from the looks of it.  =)  they kept our tea cups topped all evening with fresh tea..and our food came out quickly!  great alternative to sushi garden for sure!

The food was great! but the waitress was a clumsy. She spilledwater all over the girl next to me and then she was clearing up my table and dropped the miso soup bowls all over me. Not impressed. They should have offered us a free meal so we would want to even come back.

This place is nice, the seating is quite packed though. The waitresses are always seem really rushed but it is a busy place! If you want to go with a group I would definitely suggest calling ahead as you get a 10% discount. Plus, it is always busy and although it is a really fast turnover, it seems that every time I have gone there I have to wait at least a little while. A lineup of people usually equals good food, and that is definitely true with this place!
