I had breakfast here several weekends ago with a couple of my friends. It was my first time visiting the cafe even though I've walked past it a million times. Truth be told, I didn't realize how extensive a menu they had!

I ordered their belgian waffle, as anyone who knows me, knows of my crazy sweet tooth. The waffles were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. They offered several fruit toppings, but I kept mine plain and simple. It was perfect as is.

My only complaint was that the waiter seemed quite busy and sometimes it was hard to flag him down if we needed something. But overall, it was a great first experience and I would definitely come back!

My husband and I were looking for a breakfast place on Whyte and we decided to give Artisan a try for the first time in several years.
The menu was good and had so many tasty sounding options that it was difficult to choose just a couple.  I went for the apple-cinnamon pancakes, and Phil had a breton benny with mushrooms and brie.
My pancakes were huge and slathered in a sweet, cinnamon-y apple sauce - there was butter and syrup available, but that would've been overkill since the sauce was more than enough.
Phil's benny, though tasty, was kind of small and lacked any substantial amount of toppings or hollandaise sauce.  The potatoes that came with the eggs were very dry, so it was good that I didn't need the butter for my pancakes, because it came in handy for the potatoes.
We only had one cup of coffee (and that came awhile after sitting down) because refills were impossible to track down.
The server definitely left much to be desired - she was inattentive, ignored our requests for more coffee/cream/sugar, and was borderline surly when we were paying the bill.
Overall, the place was OK - but there are better breakfasts to be had in Edmonton.

I wish I could give a half star, because this is a 3 1/2 -er if I have ever known one.
Now, let me start by saying I have *never* been disappointed by the food here. It has always been delicious, well priced, and the portion sizes were appropriate. In terms of the food, this is by far my favorite breakfast/lunch restaurant.

My point of contention is the disorganization in regards to their staffing.
Every time I am there the reception is meager, to say the least. More often than not there is no host/hostess, and the servers/kitchen staff (doing too much at once already) are seating people. Consequently, people are seated out of order or flat out ignored. I count on it when planning on going there.
After your meal, when it is time to pay, it is much the same.

Please Artisan, recognize the need for more staff, especially hosts/hostesses, at *all* times! This may cost the company more, but I am willing to bet your profits will improve drastically.
I still recommend this place to friends and family, but that recommendation comes with a disclaimer each time.

I've been here many times in the past five years and loved coming here for the best eggs benny, coffee and goodies.   Today my companions and I had the worst service imaginable.   The food was still good but one of the orders was wrong and we were just not attended to on so many levels.  It was not busy.
Since it's easier to go to NY Bagel Cafe,  I may not come back to Artisan as often.

I've been to Artisan a few times for breakfast. Gotta say, not really diggin' it.

The hash browns here really weren't that good. On the starchy side -- definitely needed to be cooked longer. I also tried a crepe for breakfast that day, which wasn't that great either. It was also way too expensive for what I got. For a couple bucks less, I got more crepe and more filling at Crepe Works (just a few blocks down.) Their bread basket appetizer, of which I can't remember the name, was hideously overpriced. For the price of two loaves of bread you got less than three slices worth.

Another thing that kinda bothered me was most of the desserts I saw in the display case were frozen and sent in. How do I know? They have the exact same ones at Sobeys and other caterers I've been to. Not so hot for someplace that calls itself a bakery, eh? Also, despite calling itself a bakery, you can't even buy whole loaves of bread or anything like that there! Some of the bread in that appetizer was really good, and I'd have gladly bought a loaf rather than the measly scraps they gave me.

The one thing I really enjoyed was cherry flavored milk, but I suppose I can just buy a bottle of cherry flavor syrup and do that myself at home.

I don't know if I just happened to have bad luck with the items I ordered, as the people who were with me each time really enjoyed themselves. I would suggest trying it once, but don't hold your breath.

I live about this cafe! AND I forget how fantastic it is! This cafe is located on the west end of Whyte ave. It's a little more calm and quiet over here.

The cafe is huge inside. Ample seating. Great for large brunch parties. During the summer they have an awesome patio!

The menu selections are extremely diverse! Homemade food from soups and sandwiches to lamb and veggie burgers. A very large breakfast menu and wonderful coffee as well!

The next time you are thinking brunch, come to Whyte Ave and sit out on the patio to enjoy some healthy food!

Really like this place. Friendly service, unpretentious, well- prepared food, reasonable prices. We have been there twice. Shared a nicely cooked omelet with bacon and cheese the first time. Second time shared the benedict with smoked salmon.  Good coffee too.

Cheesy 80's decor. Fantastic reasonably priced food!

I had the Mediterranean lamb burger and though it looked terribly uninteresting when it arrived, it sure made up for the presentation in taste!  Yum!  The interesting gushy cheese and caramelized onions are what made this dish special.

Try it!  Park on 82 Ave, where it's free 2 hr parking because Whyte Ave is raping people with those parking meters.

Coffee here is amazing, and will perk you up right up for the massive meal that is about to follow! What I love about Artisan's big menu is its diversity. Big and small meals, food for the carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores.

In addition to a pipin' hot coffee (served right away), I ordered an orange juice, and my breakfast was fresh and delish. So much food I had to have some packed up! Our server was friendly and checked in with us regularly, even though the place was packed. Worth the wait to get a table.

Perhaps I just caught Artisan Resto-Cafe on a bad day, but I was seriously unimpressed by this popular Whyte Ave brunch spot.

From having to spend two hours there with the ridiculous wait for both food and service once seated, to having the waitress be surly and forget things we had asked for, to the food being cold and flavourless, this is certainly somewhere I won't be taking visiting friends to again.

So so good. I ate a cream of carrott soup there about a year ago and well I'm still thinking about it. The laid back atmosphere is very welcoming. Prices were really good. The epic place for a sunday meal. SERIOUSLY LOVE IT

I adore Artisan RestoCafe. It feels like a mini-Paris. They've captured the feel of an outdoor French courtyard terrace inside the warm, welcoming cafe space.

I grab a latte and a newspaper - the scene would be perfect, if only I had a French beret and a friend to dine with, named Amélie.

As I browse the menu, I can't decide between the grilled cheese with aged white cheddar on multigrain, the Mac & Cheese with three cheeses and bechamel sauce, the eggs bennie Breton with mushrooms and melted brie, also smothered in bechamel - or a healthier, nouveau-French option: the gluten-free garbanzo pancakes, made with chick pea flour, garlic, green onions and tamarind. Sounds ... extremely healthy ... but when in Paris ... I have a rule: I eat cheese. Lots of it.

A love affair begins. Actually, Artisan Resto, you had me at brie & bechamel.

Oh la la! Je t'adore! Mon amour. Ma petite baguette fleur au gratin dans creme brulee. Delicioux! You complete me.

Artisan-Resto cafe does a good job of giving a bit of a contemporary twist to its general rustic prairie feel.  Although the decor is largely of a classical style, it isn't jarring or dated per se in its feel.  The omelettes, fruit, and other food items are generally of a high quality, with the eggs and potatoes sourced from local farmers in Alberta.  Their fruit is, understandably, imported from the US, but since Alberta has a much colder climate than California (where a lot of the fruit in North America is grown), it's to be expected.

The staff are also quite nice, and they add to the overall vibe of the place.  They are also attentive and helpful with food recommendations.  Overall, I would return whenever I feel like having a large breakfast in Edmonton.

I first came to Artisan Resto-Cafe to take my mom out for a Mother's Day Crepe and I was really impressed. It was busy, but the service was good. I've come back a few more times and there has never been anyone else in there.  Gotta love the wish tree thing in the middle of the restaurant. Definently a cool touch.

I have to admit my review is going to mirror Johanna's below. I decided to try this cafe after reading good reviews, but my experience was mediocre at best. The wait staff was nice, but inexperienced. I ordered the soup of the day with a spinach salad, which took forever to be served, and found the portions to be small for the price. The soup required a bit of salt, the salad was nothing spectacular. However, the homemade bread, accompanying the soup, was good. I would have liked a couple of breads as opposed to two of the same breads and some butter or olive oil to accompany. Move on down to Chianti's Ristorante & Cafe' across from Chapters.

The warm and inviting atmosphere of the Artisan-Resto Cafe is hard to resist. Located by the Garneau building on Whyte, the European-style cafe serves quality desserts, coffee, and all-day breakfast.

I love how the cafe has the slight feel of a country cottage. The walls are painted butter yellow and are lined with paintings, with one wall built of solid brick. The floors are ceramic tiles, and topiary pieces (which look very real, but I don't think they are) dot the cafe. They have booth seating and intimately small tables.

I haven't tried their desserts yet, but I'm dying to go back and change that. Their pannini sandwiches -- made with their own freshly-baked bread -- are really good though, stuffed with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. The cappucino is creamy and frothy, just as it should be.

The cafe is family-owned, and originally started out as a bakery. The "Artisan Trio", as the culinary team is known, also offers catering services.

There are three important words I require any establishment serving baked goods and all-day breakfasts to be worth of: really excellent coffee. Artisan Resto-Cafe has superb coffee and more. Expanded from basically a glorified baker, Artisan offers eggs, Belgian waffles, light breakfasts, sandwiches, and a few burgers and larger meals.

The food is extremely fresh - I had a vegetarian omelette and the eggs were fluffy and did not have that oily off-taste that some of the chain breakfast places have. Their signature grilled potatoes are a bit dry, but have an interesting flavour. My friend had an eggs benedict special - the poached eggs were served on turkey, of all things.

To finish my meal, I had the bread pudding, which was shaped like a large muffin and served warm with steamed milk. I would come here just for the coffee and that, or perhaps the sticky cinnamon pecan bun, or one of the other mouth-watering desserts. The place has a very artistic feel to it  and is relaxed. It gets very busy here on weekends.

    I love breakfast here!

Endless cups of tea and breakfast croissant (the *best* thing on the breakfast menu) while sitting on those high chairs at a little table by the bright prairie sunlight.

It is cute inside with a fake tree in the middle. The dining area used to be much smaller and mostly filled with a cheese store, but they did expand a while ago and it was a great idea. (No more cheese store).

This place starts serving breakfast early - 6 or 6:30am, i think - and breakfast ends around 2 or 3pm. Don't sleep in too much or you'll miss it!

The bread here is pretty good too. It is baked fresh. Try and find out what day they bake the particular bread you want and don't come too late or it will all be gone!

Yum yum. I hope this place continues to do well!

This is a great little place located at a great spot on Whyte Ave. It has a warm welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to go back for more. It has a log cabin kind of feel to it.

I have gone here for brunch, which we found out is served all day, and it was really great. They have a bunch of different foods available for their brunch and unlimited amount of tea. Everyone here is so friendly and they all seem to be in good spirits.

I will add this to my list of options for a good  breakfast meal.

This is the perfect place for a late breakfast, early lunch, early breakfast or late lunch. My grandmother takes me here when we meet for lunch and I have always been satisfied. Usually she gets the egg salad sandwich and I join her, or get the ham and brie sandwich. Both are outstanding, but I am always disappointed that they do not come with a side of some sort. The plate looks so empty with just the sandwich and one lonely pickle on it.

The last time I went there, I ordered the veggie burger. This one came with a side salad, which solved my lonely pickle dilemma. The burger was awesome. I am not a vegetarian (Give me meat!) but I do enjoy a veggie burger every once in a while and this one was great. It had a spicy chipotle mayo on it that had a kick but was not overwhelming. Yum Yum.

Dessert selection is also awesome. I didn't have room the last time I was there, but walking past the counter and seeing all the fabulous looking cakes definitely made me want to "make room!"

I would suggest this place to anyone who enjoys a relaxed atmosphere and great food. I can't wait for the patio to reopen this summer!

This place is fairly mediocre. The mushrooms in my omelette were thrown in, cold, not sauteed. The pie seemed store bought. Service was limping along. Decor is kitschy and blah. Certainly not a special place, based on my experience.
