    In the nineties I took a painting class in Mexico with a friend named Verona and I spent hours watching her transform a naked canvas into her rendition of a dead horse.  She had seen the horse while walking home one evening and everyday of course the horse's body would change because of its state of being and so then did her painting.  It was quite an awe inspiring thing as a witness because even though we didn't see the actual horse the horse on her canvas slowly metamorphosed daily in front of our eyes.  I knew my friend had talent but it was only then that I really knew she had talent.

    Well years later, and as predicted she has shown in galleries all over the world, and without exception is Calgary.  I just came home from her vernissage at the Artfirm here in Calgary entitled "Quiet Fire".  

    Verona attracted quite a crowd tonight, there were about 50 people there coming in and out and I am sure even more after I left. The space is on the bottom level of the building and a delightful bouquet of flowers greets you as you enter it's recesses.  The space is well lit and well laid out and Verona's work was well curated.  Donna the director of the gallery warmly greeted my friend and I at the door and told us to make ourselves at home.  The show was also enhanced by wine beverages and a simple but elaborate cheese spread.  

    A photographer was also showing tonight and he had already sold a couple of pieces and we had only entered an hour after the opening set time.

    The space is a very welcoming and it is obvious that it has a solid reputation.  If you are an arts enthusiast then I recommend you visit this gallery and check out my friend's work.
