Talking about this place, I think I might be the 1st batch of their loyal customers. It was like my study room in year 2007 and 2008 when I still live on Yonge. (before the wall painting is green).
Before this place is very plain but cozy, with amazing cheese cake especially for the Asian people like who prefer lighter cheese.
Their coffee cheese cake used to be one of my friend's fave/only dessert he cares to eat.
Their feature cake/my favorite should be the sweet potato cake, sweet childhood memory of bake sweet potato on the street. I tried Green tea mouse but just so so.
Just after their inner deco style change, I don't go that often simply because i am not a fan of green wall painting, :P But if you are in the neighborhood give it a try.
Best weekend idea will be after Korean BBQ next door pick up a cake to go and then go to good life north york to burn the calorie.
Welcome to North York I guess~ -

Cozy little place right next to Owl of Minerva. Comfortable - small tiny place, but I guess not too many people go there. It's nice because it's not packed like Starbucks or Second Cup.
I had a cheesecake with coffee for $6. The New York Style cheesecake is apparently made by the owner herself. It was absolutely delicious -- not too sweet -- just right. I wanted to try the coffee cheesecake, but apparently she ran out that evening. Coffee was okay - but if you're getting both cheesecake AND coffee for $6, it's worth it.
Also - there's free wifi there for those who need to get some work done.
The only problem is that it closes early at 11 PM. -

i'm not a cake fan, but i ordered a caramel macchiato for probably the first time in my life... if they're that good everywhere or better, that might be my new drink of choice!

I walked by this place while visiting my parents up in North York (I live in downtown Toronto) and was excited to see an actual cafe in North York, other than a Second Cup or Starbucks.
I like the huge windows looking out onto Yonge Street. I had the Cake + Americano Coffee combo for $5 (including tax). I ordered a slice of cappuccino cake. It was tasty, but not my favourite. The coffee was pretty good.
They have wifi; it seems like a good spot to do some studying/work. The tables are a good size, the music is soft, and it's not busy.
I'll definitely be back, but next time I'll probably just have a coffee or an iced latte or something. -

Aries is a korean run little dessert and coffee hangout joint. I went last night as I had major stomach pain, and was told this place had really good korean ginger tea (made with real ginger!! ohhhhhh). At that point in the night, after 2 Tums and an extra strength Tylenol, and suffering for the majority of the day, I was up for anything.
The store is decorated really cute! It looked like an outdoor park theme. Once you enter, don't sit down, you have to go to the front and order your food/drinks. Luckily I went with regulars because I would have probably sat down indefinitely, thinking the service was just horrible!
This place has a good selection of drinks, teas mainly (they even have bubble tea, though I wasn't up for anything that could potentially upset my stomach) and cappuccinos. In addition to drinks, they had a pretty decent dessert menu, CAKES galore! I didn't try a cake, but we ordered a chocolate cake and a coffee cheese cake. Both seemed to get the thumbs up.
The ginger tea was pretty good, but very potent! It had a spicy and sweet taste, so if you're not a big fan of ginger, probably not the best option for you. Another thing about the service, they don't deliver your food to you or even tell you it's ready (at least I didn't hear anyone tell us). You have to go to the counter and pick it up... It's sorta a weird concept, I don't understand why they don't just bring it to the table.
For the teas, you can get free refills on the water only (meaning they don't add anymore stuff in the cup other than the H20). You would think the second cup would be less powerful, but to the contrary, the second cup after letting it sit for a few minutes actually started to taste really strong again! it's the power of the ginger.
Well I can happily say that the ginger did seem to calm my stomach. I never believed this stomach remedy (which I tried with ginger ale - which btw has no real ginger in it) really worked. I'm a believer. So next time you're having stomach trouble, go to Aries and it'll make all your pains go away! -

The owner is a nice person, she likes to make conversation with people who stay, making the experience more personal. Love that they serve things that are hard to find at other places in the city. They allow you to study here until about 5PM when it starts to get busier, but that's fine because they let you know in advance, if not well... now you know.
