I went in for a coffee. That's it. A coffee. And for that I give the place 4 stars. It's all about the customer service. I had heard about the place and was in the neighbourhood. When I went to pay I was told not to worry about it, it's only a coffee...ummmm what?! FREE?! Why?! O.k. well this deserved a super tip and some gushing, which I did...when I asked to break my ten $ bill...Seconds later two FREE cookies showed up at our table from our waiter who was so happy to be making our jaded day he skipped slightly, presumably from the joy of giving, as he walked away.
Now I am sure this isn't their regular policy and I would be mortified if people started demanding free stuff from this truly cozy place. However I know I will be back and ordering some of their famous breakfast. -

First of all, it's NOT a place to go and just have breakfast! You're exposed to the gross kitchen, and there is no way it passes inspection... the staff are chicken with their heads cut off, running around bumping into your chair to get by as they pour more coffee for someone else.
I had the Eggs Benny, and I asked for my eggs medium... that means, done... but with the yolk still a little runny. When I got it (30 minutes later) I didn't even have two full eggs! It was just the yolk (hard as a rock by the way) that was covered in egg white! Usually you get an egg and it's roughly the size of your hand... well mine was the size of an eyeball.
The whole thing is, it's cheaper than any big chain restaurant, however.. it's breakfast and it blows my mind that someone can screw it up!
I won't go here again! -

Sometimes you want things to be simple. No fancy schmancy combos of flavors. No infused anything. No crazy ass wraps or thin crust pizza. For those times of simplicity you need the Ardmore.
It's a diner of refreshing unhipness. Pretty much the same place since I first went there 20 years ago. Sameish menu, same tiny booths. Only difference is that they now take debit and credit cards. Progress.
Stick to the breakfasts or basics. The club and fries is PERFECT. I've had good luck with the soup and sandwich combo. Spaghetti is retro but not in a good way.
In a city where everything aspires to be more than it is it's comforting to have the Ardmore keeping it real. -

Maybe I'm a bit of a masochist, but when I wake up hungover, somebody better already know where we're going for brunch or there's going to be trouble. Yes - even in the worst state, I need to know that within minutes of showering, I will be queasily en route to hollandaise sauce, eggs, and hasbrowns - not necessarily in that order.
With that in mind, the Ardmore on a Sunday morning means I'm surrounded by 'my people'. Everyone there looks a little worse for wear, heads down, waters all round, and no more than a dull mumbling in the air. Well, except for the people who arrive later and get stuck waiting in a line outside (which, let's face it, sucks).
By the time the cheap, all-day breakfasts hit the table though, it's a different story. Team Alcoholics picks up, find some energy, and starts rehashing the mayhem that brought them to where they are today. The food is never going to be memorable for me but it's exactly what I need at that time-hearty, hot, fast, affordable, and in front of my face.
The staff remind me of those in a Cape Breton diner too, which makes it even funnier when you're listening to everyone reevaluate their Jersey Shore life choices around you.
I'm pretty sure it's cash only-or maybe just most of the time-so run to the ATM at the Irving next door. You'll thank me later.Listed in: Hungover Brunch, Quinpoolin', I've rarely met a diner I…

Oh yes, the Ardmore veggie burger - smothered in onions and ketchup, perhaps a cheese slice melted on top (while retaining its square shape), mustard, tomatoes and like a cherry atop a sundae, crowned with a pickle.
The only thing I have consumed at the Ardmore that's worth mentioning is the veggie burger. Throw in a side of sweet potato fries or some seriously greasy onion rings and you've got yourself the only meal you'll need for 24 hours.
It's cheap and easy food, perhaps fast to arrive, on occasion languorously slow. Sometimes the cooks make a mistake and when the waitress brings the food back to the kitchen you can hear them cursing and slamming about, but that's the nature of this beast.
It's $3.99 for the burger and an additional $2 for the fries. If you're feeling saucy, chuck in a glass bottle of coke and you've got yourself a dream come true. REMEMBER to ask for the works on your burger, or else you may just end up with ketchup, and where's the fun in that?Listed in: Let's Get Greasy

I can't believe I have waited so long to review Ardmore Tea Room!
First off, don't be tricked by their name. They aren't the type of restaurant I would expect when I hear the words, Tea Room. The main reason everyone goes to the Ardmore is the breakfast! It is incredible and very inexpensive! The Ardmore has kept a traditional, family style looking dining experience for as long as I know it which I love.
Here are the top four reasons to go the Ardmore:
1. The staff are great! There is room for improvement but they are definitely above average.
2. The food is very good quality and they give you generous portions. Its not the Texas portion sizes I've seen in some restaurants in one of my favorite States, but its really good and will fill you up.
3. The place looks like a family owned Diner in a small town and operates as such. I love it because you don't feel like a number there.
4. They are very inexpensive! One of the best and cheapest places to go to in the city.
The only two downsides are the washrooms and lineups. The washrooms, at least the male washroom, is so cramped I practically have to get into a Yoga position to...I won't finish that sentence but you get my point. The lineups are annoying but completely understandable given the fact that they are so popular. So that is just a necessary consequence with doing a great job!
If you haven't gone to Ardmore, you need to go. If you are reading this review in the morning and haven't made breakfast yet, give yourself a break and head there. If you don't live in Nova Scotia but plan on going to Nova Scotia and are reading this review while eating breakfast, just tell yourself, "This would be better if I were at the Ardmore." Enough said. -

Does the Ardmore do anything besides breakfast? I only ask because it's all I ever hear about when asking around for a good spot to get my favorite meal of the day. After so many glowing recommendations I had to check it out.
I was afraid the hype would ruin my experience. I thought the bar was set so high that there was no way my expectations could be met.
I'm happy to say I was wrong.
Breakfast at the Ardmore was great! The portions were generous, the service was quick, and it tasted great. Certainly not for the health conscious (it's very greasy), but for those of us who enjoy a greasy spoon breakfast, this is as good as it gets.
While the food is great, the operation is not without its flaws. Some of which can be addressed easily, some not so much. First, it's crowded. The restaurant is small and often packed. In the past I've waited over half an hour for seating. Sure, it's worth the wait, but when your stomach starts growling it can be frustrating. Second, the bathroom. If you can...hold it.
These are problems that can't really be fixed without major renovations and I would never expect. However, there is one problem that could and should be addressed: They don't take debit. I don't like carrying a lot of cash on me, I find if I have paper money, I spend paper money (Shocking!). I like the convenience of debit and would really like to see it at the Ardmore, it would definitely increase my visits.
Even without a debit machine, The Ardmore delivers. It is definitely worth your while to check it out one of these mornings! -

Cheap. Greasy. Breakfast. It is so easy to get a good review when frequented by hungover university students...But, ahhh, how can one resist after so many long-island iced teas the night previous?

I visited Ardmore Tea room quickly a few mornings ago to get a quick breakfast before work. It was pretty quiet (I guess because it was early on a weekday) and I was able to find a table and be served right away.
I ordered the traditional special (2 eggs, toast, hash browns and sausage) and a coffee. It was the best breakfast I've ever had at the Ardmore, everything was hot, the coffee wasn't great (it tasted like it had been sitting on for too long) but I left satisfied.
Maybe I judged the Ardmore too harshly for it's usual weekend crowds because the atmosphere was much better on my recent visit. As Gretchen Weiners always says "I can't help it that I'm so popular" and the same apparently applies to this little diner.Listed in: All Day Breakfasts

At the Ardmore Tea Room, it's all about the breakfast.
Sure, they have lunch and dinner menus, and plenty of people must eat those meals there. But their weekend breakfasts are the restaurant's real claim to fame, and anyone who's ever woken up on a Sunday morning feeling a little under the weather knows that there's no cure like the homefries and sausages at the Ardmore Tea Room.
It's just a teensy little place, so there's often a bit of a lineup on weekend mornings. There's little to no ceremony at this homestyle diner - just cram yourself into the first available booth, quickly give your busy waitress your order and rest your pounding head on your hands until the plate hits the table.
And make sure you bring cash. The Ardmore is old-school and they don't take debit, so save yourself the embarrassment of having to sponge off your cash-carrying friends by jamming a $10 into your other pocket when you're out having a good time on Saturday night. -

This was the GO TO Place after a night out. Everyone would fix their upset stomach with a plate of breakfast from the Ardmore. Eggs, home-fries, bacon and toast. And Lots of Coffee!!
It might not look like much from the outside and the inside is not fancy. But it does hit the spot. -

My husband and I had just recently visited this restaurant after coming off a night shift,we thought it would be nice to sit down and have a good old fashioned breakfast. This was our first time visiting this restaurant and after hearing all the great reviews on this place and how good their breakfast was maybe we had our hopes set to high. To start off the service was good, friendly and fast! As for the meal itself it was not so great, the homefries were extremly salty,my scrambled egg was scrambled into such small pieces you could hardly stab a piece with your fork. My husbands toast was dripping with butter as for mine was very dry and brittle. And as for the meat we had to take a napkin to it and de-degrease it!In total this breakfast cost $16, then adding a $2 tip just for the friendly service. In my mind which is way over priced for any breakfast!I really think if we had of went up the street to Macdonalds we would have had a more enjoyable breakfast....and that's not saying very much!
