Review from Tess R.
We go to the Arden most months during it's regular season. The performances we've been to have been consistently entertaining and have included an eclectic variety of performers. We've seen Canadian and international touring musicians and a few modern dance performances. Always worth the money and the venue is fantastic.
Located on the river in downtown St Albert, there are several good choices nearby for dinner before the show. Beverages are available before the show and during intermission. Performers pretty much always come out at intermission and after the show to sell CDs and sign autographs. A very intimate and reliable setting for artists on the road.
Like all music venues, sound depends on the person at the sound board. Sometimes too loud or muddy, but when a skilled engineer is at the board this location has fantastic acoustics.
The building was designed by Douglas Cardinal and also houses City Hall and the local museum. It is an excellent example of Cardinal's beautiful and flowing lines.
The theatre is also used by local groups and schools and can be rented for a reasonable price. I volunteered there many years ago and learned a lot about backstage logistics and sound for music and theatre.
