I was in a rush whilst walking past here the other week, and knew I HAD to come back! So dragging my boyfriend, we hopped on our bikes and cycled here for a lovely peaceful, sunny Sunday afternoon :)

It's an old building, reflected inside with the old style furniture (to the point of slightly uncomfortable :P). I def wanna sit in that booth at some point, it looks so cozy! I imagine myself 'stranded' there one time, it raining hard outside, curled up in the booth with  a coffee and a newspaper!

The latte came in a clear glass (always love that), and the lady told me it would be made with 2 shots of espresso, if that's alright, which YES, it is :) See? Starbucks needs to do that. Sat outside, the leaves slowly blowing off the trees, relaxing with  a latte, ahhh, what Sundays were made for. Also close by to 4th Avenue/Broadway for some shopping!

    Good sandwiches.
    Strong coffee.
    Quaint atmosphere.
Slow, surly service with nary a care in the world for the consumer.
Nice patio seating area with some slanted tables that are not conducive for eating.
Good local crowd. Reminiscent of days of yore when Kits was both inexpensive and hippy laden, and long before I was old enough to visit or buy (sigh).

Not a go-out-of-your-way coffee shop, but a nice break from the "others" when in the hood. Better in the summer when you can sit outside, but what seems like would be a good place to sit the rest of the year--if you can get a seat. With laptop and here-to-lounge type of patrons, it doesn't seem easy to snag a seat the rest of the time.

CUTE cozy little space with nice mismatched wooden furniture, a couple booths if that's your thing and enough outdoor seating. Definitely the sort of place where you get your coffee to stay and chat with friends.

My americano was not mindblowingly good but certainly tolerable to drink black and nice and nice and strong.

All of the food I've had has been delicious and reasonably priced for a coffee shop.

    Staff are always delightfully friendly.

This place is a cool little coffee shop that looks like it is on the main floor of a house!  I like it because it is easy for me to tie up my dog outside without so many people walking by and petting him (yes he is super cute)..  oh ya, the coffee is good too!  :)

As a visitor, I was lucky to find this place, tucked off on a quiet street in an historic building. The coffee is great, the baking is made -inhouse with generous proportions and character and vibe are even better. There is free wi-fi but the signal can be quite weak. I recommend sitting near the kitchen door for best results. Have an American Misto.

Do children play in their backyard? Are they growing their own veggies? Does a family live upstairs? These and many other questions, like what were they filming here last week, float thru the cherry blossom air as I open the door and set myself up at the table next to the window. Its nice to hang out in a place that has a small town weekend feel in the city, on a weekday.

My strong americano was served in a glass mug and complimented my granola muffin. I wasn't blown away by either but they did the trick of powering me through the morning.

I might not go out of my way to hang out here, by if I lived in the neighbourhood, I could see them knowing me by name.

Such a cute, quaint little coffee shop. Not a chain! They put love into their food! If I lived in this neighbourhood, I'd be here more often.

The coffee is okay. I got a maple syrup latte--with real maple syrup! It was a bit too sweet, but I think it's just my taste buds. Next time I would try the mocha.

They close at 9pm. It's a good place to come an study! I think they have free wifi since  alot of people had their laptops out.

I think their prices are a bit steeper than some other places, but for homemade goodness (that's not my own doing), I'd pay more.

Quaint cafe that is tucked off of busy busy commercialized 4th -- it's worth the drive to Acton (sorry, Toronto reference).

This tiny corner cafe on Arbutus serves great coffee, iced drinks and a nice selection of treats. Outdoor patio and free internet makes this a hipster draw.

    Enjoy!

Arbutus Coffee probably has the Gilmore girls as customers; yes, it looks that perfect it could easily sit in Stars Hollow instead of at Arbutus and 6th. Looks perfect, that is.

The service shatters that illusion like a... sorry, I'm fresh out of Gilmore girls comparisons. On my last visit we ordered coffees and a panini. We received the coffees right away and then waited on the food. We listened for the calling of our order, watched where the food was being placed: no sign of the panini.

Finally after 10+minutes when the family that arrived after us had been served and there was no one making any more food, we approached the counter to ask where our panini was. (And getting pretty hungry at this point.) "Someone else must have taken it," the girl said. This is a small, not-so-bustling coffee shop. I have confidence I'd notice someone striding off with my breakfast. Or, if someone had taken ours instead of theirs, wouldn't there be an extra panini around? There wasn't.

Whatever it was, it was definitely not their fault.*

The silver lining was that they gave us the option of a panini or a cash refund. We took the refund and our hunger down to Joe's Grill.

*Please note the sarcasm here. I hold the opinion that it was their fault. And my hunger can never forgive this darling-looking coffee shop. So cute and so cruel.

This is my favourite coffee shop in Vancouver.  Quite a statement, right?  Well this place deserves it.

Located on the corner of Arbutus & 6th, it's a cozy place to get some coffee/tea and one of their many baked goods. I've sampled many things and have yet to be disappointed: brownies, pies, cinnamon buns, cakes, they're all good!

The best part of this coffeeshop is its location. It's tucked away from the hustle and bustle of 4th, but still close enough to pop in. Whether you're perched by the window, or sitting outside on the bench, you're sure to catch some great people watching.

I have driven by this coffee shop many times in the past couple of months, and each time I promise myself I will try it out. Even from the outside it looks very old country and inviting. Yesterday, I finally went!

The ambiance on the inside, matches what is portrayed on the outside. Quiet, relaxed and with a feeling you are in a small town coffee shop where everybody knows each other. I love this atmosphere!

I had a chai latte with a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. The chai latte was OK - definitely better than the big chain stores, but there was no kick to it (and I do like a kick in my chai!), hence the minus 1 star. The cookie, on the other hand, was delicious! Sweet and soft like cookie dough, which is exactly how I like my cookies.

The place was small, the staff was very friendly and the clientelle was courteous. I will give you an example of the latter: my friend and I walked in and there were no places to sit but as we ordered, some seats at the window opened up. Another couple walked in after us and instead of having a race for the free seats, they saw that we got there first and offered us the seats. They did not wait long for more seats to open up.

From that little story, you might be able to tell that the place is not big, maybe seating 20 people inside and some more outside. Nonetheless, there were people enjoying their choice of beverage and working on their computers.

Conclusion: I will definitely return! But next time I will try a different drink :)

Living in downtown Vancouver for 8 years now, I really love finding places that make me feel like I'm somehow off the beaten track, in a small town or just supporting a quaint mom & pop type of place.

That's why Arbutus Coffee really speaks to me.

I rode my bike over the Burrard bridge, took the Cypress bike route up to 6th and went over a couple of streets to find Arbutus Coffee in a lovely heritage building on the corner of two quiet tree lined streets.
The floors are creaky wood, the place smells like cinnamon, there's personal photos hung on the wall.

I came to use the wifi, do some work and grab lunch. Yes, power outlets are a little hard to find (as well as seating) so it's best to go early morning or during the week. My roasted veggie sandwich was great and they had a good variety of options.

No beans about it, this is one of if not the best neighbourhood cafes in all of Vancouver!  Awesome americanos, great style, and incredible desserts to tempt you. Yes, they also have wifi but it is not a large place a seating anytime can be difficult to find.  That said, being a neighbourhood joint means always being able to find a great conversation around you and that is very true with this spot. Go!

Might I suggest the German Chocolate Cake?  Or better yet, don't.  Seriously.  When I go there I want my cake and it is often the first item to sell out.  The paninis are good, too.  I don't think I've had anything in the joint that was disappointing.  Staff are friendly and you will often find people ordering up something freshly roasted to take home... and do they have a wide selection of beans!  Awesome place.

Best coffee shop in Kits! Yes, it's a bit off the beaten track, but it's worth walking the extra few blocks to. Good, cheap coffee and delicious looking food. Also, they provide the Vancouver Sun and other miscellaneous papers.

We came across this cute cafe while taking an exploratory walkabout in this neighbourhood. The cafe is really cozy, yes, but we were double lucky on this day. We pulled our stools up to a counter, and right at the booth next to us we had a celebrity citing. (ooh!) The "Corner Gas" writer and stars Brent Butt and Nancy Robertson. tehee! To tell you the truth, I can't remember the coffee flavour 'cause I was all a titter...

This time I went in and first thing I noticed was the girl behind the counter and her big smile.  It was a nice way to start my Saturday morning...an idyllic little coffee shop, a warm helpful smile and a perfect cup of coffee. Got beans to go too and the grind was great.

Arbutus Coffee is probably the cutest coffee shop ever. Seriously, the first time I saw it, I took pictures of it just because it was so gosh darn adorable. The inside is cozy though this often translates into not being able to find a place to sit. The food is good, as is the coffee. It's everything you'd ever want in a neighbourhood coffee shop, if the service was friendlier. When that day comes, Arbutus Coffee will rise to 5-star status.

I'm new to Vancouver so I got some recommendations for coffee shops with Wifi and this was one of them. I was disappointed when I got there. It's very small with hardly any seating (due to the size.. you can only fit so many tables and chairs). An old man in front of me smelled like mothballs. The small space really contains odours so the mothball smell was suffocating. The girl who worked at the counter seems VERY sad, a little irritated, and doesn't appear to like her job. Not even a bit of a smile, ever. I'd try to smile but it's like the energy in that place is so negative and draining. The panini was good. They serve teabags, which is quite disappointing considering they're a coffee shop, you'd think they'd know enough about tea to have loose leaf options. I haven't tried the coffee so I can't comment on that. People seem to like going there. Anyway, it's too cramped to get any work done (which is why I went) but it may have been different if I was just going for a coffee with friends. I won't be coming back, personally, but I have friends who like that place so you could always give it a shot and see for yourself.
