Calm atmosphere; gastown style brick walls, elegantly furnished.  Nice teas and friendly staff too.  Loose leaf tea (to take home) is rather expensive but given the quality it could be worth it for tea snobs.  Rather crowded on a weekend afternoon - I suppose they could make better use of the space and fill it with more tables, like Coffeebar next door.   Maybe, offer more treats (a la secret garden tea house in kerrisdale... :) ?  )
Free wifi - nice place to get a little work done.

This place is very hard to find and we accidentally found it 'cause we noticed a street sign. It's secretly tucked away which is a shame 'cause unless you're really looking, this place doesn't stand a chance in regards to foot traffic and getting the people's attention.

The lady at the til was really nice, sweet and informative and really cared about the business and customer service relations. I personally didn't order anything 'cause there were no pastries that were gluten free, however, their selection of teas is awesome.

There was noting that stood out in terms of uniqueness as I have seen similar blends before in other upscale tea houses for the same price, however, I am interested in their high tea selection. I will come back and book myself a high tea the next time we are blessed in Vancouver with as nice weather as it was this weekend.

It's a two level establishment which makes it awesome for people watching.

For now I am giving it 3 stars since I haven't tried the high tea as of yet, therefore, stay tuned for a review to follow on this during the spring time.

I went there last week with a date and it was pretty hard to find, it wasn't on the general road map.

After ordering, we sat beside a large group of," We won't shut up, and will go as loud as we want." so basically I had to yell and ask the other person to repeat to hear. It would be nice to seclude a large group from....a 2-person study group for example.

The tea was good, and the atmosphere was calm. ( except the "we won't shut up" group) The ambiance was really classy and had a warm tone to it.

The place was located in a really artsy structure which made me stay longer!

Après-Midi Teahouse is located in Gastown tucked away inside Bloody Alley - beside coffeebar (click), L'Abattoir, and Boneta. This little tea house boasts premium teas while providing a calm, relaxing environment to wash your day away.

From the outside, it is very European, especially when you have old historic brick building surroundings. L'Abattoir is charming, and Haven is hip. Apres-Midi looked like a cute hideaway. We want to come here for some time now. I was extremely excited to have Friday off and finally some sun in the forecast.

Apres-Midi is separated into 2 storeys - downstairs counter and bar, bench seats and an unlevelled mezzanine upstairs overlooking people mingling below. Downstairs is a brightly light, wooden tables to fit with the brick building. Upstairs carpeted area reminds me of a family living room.

While debating whether to order the Jasmine $4.95 or the White Toffee Peony Latte $4.75, we were recommended the Jasmine because it was said to be fragrant and tasty.

    Jasmine Latte $4.75

I'm not sure whether I ordered a steamed milk or a Jasmine Latte. Floral tea flavours were missing. I could not smell the flowers blooming from my beverage. Rather than paying $5, this warm milk can boiled gently over low heat at home.

    Match Latte $4.95

It is milder when compared to the neighbouring Coffeebar (click) but it was water downed and the strong sense of the matcha flavour could not be found. There was too much foam and was pretty much bland. Oh, how I miss the one from Cafe Medina.

On side note, they did offer to make us another drink should we dislike the original. I'm a little sceptical when a remake is offered prior to consumption. Are they not confident in their drink preparation? Or they simply friendly and offering good customer services? Perhaps you can let me know next time you are here...

We were given samples of their new lemon ginger tea. Verdict? Reminds me of the detergent at home.
Lastly, the choice of music is very random. We have experienced Yoga Zen music, Chinese flute, Indie, Jazz, House and some other contemporary artists. Please, choose something fitting to the environment for the love of God. The randomness was like they weren't sure what their clientle was and wanted to cater to all.

My apologise I don't normally rip a place to pieces unless absolutely warranted. Cheers!

Nice little tea house hidden in a gas town alley. Selection of teas is good and is the stylish place. Good place for an afternoon tea in a trendy area.

    * Pleasant setting for a relaxing break *

Tucked away in a back courtyard next to the new Boneta, this little teahouse is a comfortable little hidden oasis from Gastown.

The mini fresh baked croissants were surprisingly good considering they were likely frozen parbaked.  They had a nice flakiness to them, were served warm, and were accompanied by a nice strawberry preserve.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

The kind staff also provided a complimentary cup of ceylon tea to round things out.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

I would definitely return if in the area and in need of a quiet spot to relax for a bit.

We tried two different teas during a recent visit - the Market Spice and the Spicy Chai Latte. Both were very nice but the Market Spice was especially tasty. Cool location in Gastown with a very knowledgeable staff member helping us decide what to try and which loose leaf teas to take out for home brewing. Chemically smell outside the bathroom when we were there and they could have used some interesting music to warm the mood on the rainy afternoon we were there. Will return to try other teas.

I have visited this place twice since opening and have totally mixed feelings.

First of all the tea is amazing. its fresh, its tasty, and clearly brewed to perfection. I have not been in the mood for a treat but their treats look great.

The reason my experience is so mixed is the discrepancy is service. There is one fellow that works there that does not understand customer service, I think he is the manager...or at least he acts like he is. His actions seem forced which make the whole place seem unhospitable. The other staff are really impressive though.

The first time I visited there were some awesome art. Really beautiful teapots.  But the next time I visited they were replaced with cheezy pictures of gastown.

Anyways...i will surely return for the tea. It is really really great.

Yes, it's hard to find, but it's so cozy, the location reminds me to this Mexican Hacienda style, anyway, they have a great selection of teas and the decoration is very inviting, l highly recommend it for all tea lovers!

Glad to see they are now offering Cream Tea and other goodies. I also noticed they now serve coffee. I am definitely excited to try the cream tea with my english in-laws!

I can't imagine a more cozy, enjoyable way to spend a rainy Vancouver afternoon than with an après midi cream tea set!  $13.95 is an incredible deal for a pot of tea along with clotted cream, honey & preserves and four freshly baked mini scones.  Their earl grey cream tea was perfect with just a hint of vanilla...but next time I may try the earl grey lavender it sounds equally delightful.  This lovely tea house feels like it is my secret spot to escape within gastown.  While I'd love to keep it all to myself, I have to share it with ya'll at yelp because it fully deserves to be known as "THE place to tea" in Vancouver.  A beautiful location, excellent quality and warm knowledgable staff make this a place I will return to - often!  Merci après midi!
