It is such a delightful experience visiting Applewood Farm Winery!
If you are into more fruity wine, this is the place to come and give their fruit wines a try.
Of course, I could not resist when the nice guy offering me some wines to try!
Iced Apple Cider ($19.95)
- just like drinking sweet concentrated apple juice... sweet sweet with a hint of spice.
Iced Strawberry Apple ($14.95)
- intensive strawberry flavours! I have to say it will be great to be served over cheesecake or some ice cream! yummy
Smoke'in Apple ($14.95)
- the hot chillies and peppercorns really give this a kick! I like spicy food, but I don't think I like drinking spicy wine... it can really hurt your throat!
I really like the idea of Applewood Farm Winery not just a functional apple/strawberry farm where you can come and pick your own fruits. It also produces their own wine... and it is always an experience to talk to the people that actually runs that place and so proud of their products!Listed in: A Day in Stouffville!, Wineries!!

We just arrived in the NICK of time. In time to visit the Farm/Winery Store and the Gentleman that greeted us while we were browsing at the Lobby with all the Holiday/Farm decorations. Just be careful of the Tractors lying around but if you have Children, I'm sure those Biped Tractor Cycles will keep them entertained while you Schmooze & Booze in the Store area farther inside.
Christmas Eve we were there to say Happy Holidays to the fellow before they close shop until the month of May. He was happy to oblige with any Tasting Request we had while we browsed through the shop notibly of Apple Cider, Mulled Spices, Fruit Beers, Apple Chips and such. Yes, most of the items even the Wine will have Fruit themed simply because you're in a Fruit Farm.
Can't wait until they open to try some more. Especially the Meade and some more of their Award Winning Fruit Wines and I don't even have to drive an hour to get to Applewood. That time it'll probably be some PICKING time.
Tastings:
Smoke'in Apple(Iced Cider with Hot Chillies & Pepper Corns)
- Not your everyday Beverage but as noted it's a good item to cook with. I was thinking of a juicy thick Pork Chop while I was drinking.
Iced Cider(Soft Sweet Vanilla Spice Nose (18))
- Interesting the preparation of this is similar to Grapes but needs much lower temperature prior to picking. Somewhere in the neighbourhood of -20 rather than -10 which seems quite a task.Listed in: 4+ ****Stars****, Retirement Planning, On my way to Alcoholics…

Applewood Farm has something for everyone, and it's surprisingly close by (just 5 minutes east from the 404).
This is a great place for seasonal fruit picking with the family. There is plenty to see and do for the kids as well. I still remember going here when I was a little kid and picking baskets of fresh fruit with my family.
My favorite place is their winery which they make wines from their fruit. Because their wines are made from fruit, most of them are on the sweet side, but bursting with flavor -- it's best to take advantage of their free tasting so that you find the right sweetness and flavor to suit your palatte.
My favorites are the Blackberry Port (try this over a good vanilla bean ice cream), the Raspberry Hard Cider (actually quite dry and refreshing), and their Madrigal Meade sparkling wine (which happens to be one of their driest wines with a nice spicy finish).
They also have an interesting chili ice wine, which they say is great for cooking.
The winery also sell baked goods, honey and crafted gifts. Matt who works the winery is very knowlegable and very friendly. I had friends from Colorado who visited Applewood farm recently and couldn't get enough of their wines. Check their website for their harvesting periods and events.
