I came here on short notice when the student clinic was inexplicably closed.
I like the electronic sign-in system! I've never before seen this in a clinic..
I only waited about 5 minutes to see a doctor which was surprising, too, considering every other clinic I've seen in Toronto constitutes hours in like. Our local clinic by the junction recently moved and I never really liked it anyway.
So: very clean, friendly doctor, short wait, and fancy new technology = four stars. I'd recommend it over others in Toronto so far. Appointments are available too. : ) -

I can't believe what they are doing to get more money.
I walk in, the receptionist asks why I am here. So I tell her I'd like to get a prescription for birth control pill, and also have a possible skin problem in my ear. I couldn't believe her reply.
She said to me, I can only do one thing at a time, So she told me to choose one to discuss with the doctor and come back later (i.e. make a separate visit) for the other concern.
I complained to Dr. Stendardo. To my surprise, he defended the practice by saying 'it's because this is a walk-in clinic and this reduces waiting time.' Ah.. excuse me?
Not to mention there were few patients waiting, even if what he was saying was true (which it isn't) what's the benefit of shorter waiting time if a doctor will refuse to see you for all of your problems?
I think the clinic wanted me to come back so the they can charge OHIP for a two visits.
Basically the policy is, "I will treat you for X here, but for that other problem you mentioned that it was bothering you, which I haven't even looked at, which I don't even know if it is serious or not, come back later."
Wow. Very high ethical standard you have there.
It's obviously not ethical, but I wonder if what they are doing is even legal? -

It's rare to be able to talk about Canadian healthcare and expediency in the same breath. My experience at Appletree this morning was a real shocker.
The Appletree Medical Centre is located in the Village by the Grange plaza. It is most easily accessed via the entrance at Dundas and St. Patrick (look for a Baskin Robbins). Their frosted-glass entrance advertises a litany of medical offerings: radiology, counselling, travel medicine, pap exams, vaccines, etc. As with all first-time visits, I had to provide some information about my medical history, but in this twenty-first century clinic you simply walk over to a touch-screen, swipe your health card, and punch in your information. It's fast and easy, and don't worry: there is hand sanitizer for those concerned.
I didn't even sit for a moment in the waiting room; I immediately was whisked away to see a doctor. A nurse quickly jotted down some notes and vitals on a tablet computer (!) and within minutes I was meeting with the amiable Dr Stendardo. He was polite and listened to my concerns. The entire process took less than 20 minutes. In other walk-in clinics I've waited twice as long just to be called -- expediency!
Obligatory Title Pun: How do you like them APPLES?
Menu Readability: Their website provides wait-times in realtime and lets you know what clinics are open when. Top notch.
Need to mention: They are not currently open on weekends.
What this place teaches me about myself: I'm wowed when a medical centre in Canada uses technology younger than I am.Listed in: Village by the Grange Food…, Doctor, Doctor

I went to this clinic at this location because I was recommended by my friend for its quick service and also friendly doctor... but I have a totally different experience from the clinic.
I was there for some issue regarding my headache and dizziness. I talked to one of the "nurse" in the reception on how to register since it was my first time. She talked to me like I was an idiot with some negative attitude. Ok, fine~ Then, I was asked to go into one of the examination room and I was asked to leave urine sample. I told them I don't have any and I need to see the doc asap cause I was getting very ill. The doc would not see me until I leave my urine sample, which annoyed me so much~!
The doc then saw me and prescribed me some meds and asked me to go to another clinic for blood test and ECG. I told them I already have annual check from my fam doc but the doc insisted I should get those done.
I went back there two days later because the med was not helping. I was "greeted" again by the same "nurse" and this time, she kept asking me if I want to have a PAP test... I said I don't need any... but she kept on explaining it is just a test covered by OHIP and it should be done annually... I am like: "NO, I don't need one"
I saw the doc and he told me to go to ER as there is nothing he can do there... I am like okie... then when I asked for a "sick note", the "nurse" said that it cost $20... I am like... okie... such a RIP OFF~!!!!
Overall thoughts and experiences:
It seems like they were very "hungry" for money/abusing the OHIP~!!!! Because:
1. I went there for headache and dizziness but they insist to get my blood work, ECG and urine sample which did not help with the diagnosis at all
2. The "nurse" kept insisting that I should get the PAP test done but I told her numerous times that I don't need one
3. A sick note costs $20???????? I went to other drop in clinic or even hospital run clinic and it is free of charge...
4. Later on, I found out that the "nurse" who greet me was not a nurse, she was just a general staff... (don't ask me how I find this one).... it seems they even want to save money by hiring "general staff" instead of a nurse cause the hourly salary of an RN is pretty high.
I would recommend to go to the clinic on Bay & College instead because the doc has more experiences and also they have real RNs there... -

I'm not docking a star for anything in particular, I suppose I'd just be more likely to give 5 stars to a GP that was mine and mine alone!
I wanted to get a prescription for something and happened to be passing Appletree at around 6pm on a Wednesday. I had heard horror stories of the lengthy lines at walk-in clinics so feared I would see hordes of coughing, sniffling and vomiting desperately ill people in the waiting room. It was obviously my lucky day-just one person sitting there. It had snowed earlier in the day so maybe the rest were sensible and snuggled under a duvet somewhere! The website would have given me this information too-it gives approximate waiting times for all their clinics in Toronto.
Check in was ridiculously easy. I swiped my OHIP card through a terminal, entered my details and the system said that there was one person ahead of me. I had barely sat on the chair when a girl came out to bring me to a room. I'm not sure what she was-nurse/physician's assistant/receptionist? She was very pleasant regardless and took a brief history which she entered on a tablet device. The doctor was Dr Stendardo who was lovely-relaxed and friendly. We chatted briefly about what I wanted, he asked all the right questions and covered a bit of health promotion too. The prescription was entered electronically and printed off before I swanned out, delighted with a health care system that lets me turn up, be seen and be treated well for free.
I'm sure you'd probably be better off with a dedicated primary care physician for chronic or complex illnesses; but for quick consultations or acute illness places like this are a great resource!Listed in: Health and fitness (TO)
