Well, I was twisting for joy on my way home, waiting at the 2nd Avenue bus stop. So I realized I had done something right. The food must have been really fresh. I felt wonderful for the rest of the evening, and am sure I will tomorrow. Too bad I can only do this about once a month at the present. I want to feel good every day!
The saganaki fried cheese was superb. The lamb that followed was tender as all-get-out. It was from New Zealand, my waitress told me. Very mellow flavour. I like mine with more herbs and spices, and so ordered a couple of lemon wedges, which helped significantly. I also squeezed some on my saganaki, which magnified the flavour. The Apollonia Coffee, with Bailey's & Sambuca was a nice loaded treat, after a 15-minute break (required!) I'd skip the whip cream ontop next time. The "Greek"? coffee was a failure. I had mine remade, but still, problems. The baklava might be a sweetener-upper for some kid, but I found it too sweet, flakey, with honey dripping all around, for my liking.
The Greek glass of red wine was good. Tsantalis, I think.
This neat little restaurant is almost under the Granville Bridge, one block west, and the number 50 bus stops right nearby. -

I came here with about a dozen ladies for a Meetup. No one had tried the place before, and upon reading the reviews in advance, I didn't have high expectations. Throw in the fact that I am VERY well acquainted with Greek cuisine, I was quite worried about being disappointed.
Honestly? I'd like to go back and eat there again. It's not the best Greek food nor the most authentic, but it's a little gem that I'd like to support.
It's clearly a family-owned restaurant with a desire to break free from that typical Greek appearance. It's a cozy and inviting little spot that's in an odd location, but it does have ample street parking.
I am still craving more of the roast lamb with rice and potatoes that I enjoyed here. I really want to go back and try some of the appetizers and especially the avgolemono soup, although no place lives up to what my mother in law used to prepare.
My biggest complaint here was the wine. I had the retsina which is an old favorite but it just tasted a little flat like the bottle had been sitting open in the refrigerator too long.
Service was fine. It was clear we didn't get the young woman that was complained about in many of the other reviews -- although she was there and I agreed she probably wanted to be anywhere but there. Having grown up in the restaurant business, I can understand it, but this girl better make the best of it. You either put on a smile and work it and earn it, or you have a slew of nasty reviews on Yelp about your service. Our server was great. Super friendly without being bubbly. She learned each person's name so that she could interact with our group and serve the correct meals to each person. That was a nice touch.
Yeah, I liked this place. Could they be better? Of course. But honestly I was happy with my meal and the price I paid. -

Our 3rd visit, and the service, food and ambiance is consistently above par. We appreciate their relaxed but very welcoming ambiance, and the lack of blaring music. Generous serving for single glass of wine. Very tasty moussaka and I love the lemon potatoes. Satziki dip outshone most restaurant fare, as did their non-standard bread accompaniment.
For a quiet authentic Greek meal in a warm inviting mellow atmosphere, we will continue to recommend Apollonia. Great way to end a busy work week for hubby and me. Thank you Nikki. -

We stopped in here last night for the first time and we both enjoyed the food and atmosphere which was tasty and fun...although this may be due more to the large party which occupied the front left section of the restaurant. But a nice space and a window seat for enjoying a fine summer evening.
We didn't receive the 2 pitas with tzatziki that others have mentioned as a starter but instead one white with only two packaged containers of butter..this seemed odd and out of keeping with our usual Greek dining experiences. And, this would seem a good place to mention the one problem with our experience. The girl serving us was pleasant enough but utterly lacking in any ability to hid the fact she didn't want to be there or was able to project any personality into her position. Don't know if she was a family member recruited for a busy night or this is the usual but this was certainly the low point of our dinner.
On the other hand the high point was the food. My girlfriend had the steak and prawns special which at 16.95 included a nice sized steak and 4 prawns all grilled perfectly to her liking and including lemon roast potato, rice and greek salad. My meal was the greek ribs and chicken which was delicious, the ribs falling off the bone tender with a great charred texture and flavor. My only requests would be that at 18.95 and the chicken being the cheaper leg with back attached, a bigger portion of ribs would have been appropriate.
All in all a good experience and we would go back hoping the serving
issue has been given a little tweaking. -

We ordered a Saganaki (pan fried cheese) to start. Usually the waiter would come to the table, light the cheese on fire and yell "opa!". We didn't get a show here and this dish was pricey ($9.95). It didn't taste too bad. But overall, a bit of rip off.
For the main courses, we ordered roasted lamb which was pretty good and Mousaka was a bit bland. Both came with Greek salad and half of roast potato. The salad was really good and potato was ok. We were also given a small portion of tiziki sauce. I didn't even notice this awesome sauce until we almost finished our entrees. I wanted to take the tiziki home.
The restaurant was pretty small. But clean and nicely decorated (but doesn't scream Greek at all). We noticed the diners were mostly elderly.
The service was not really good. Very robotic and not much smiling or warmth. -

I am personally quite a fan of Greek food, and I have to admit, all the great reviews I have read about this place really motivated me to come check it out. Even on an evening of pouring rain, I had faith that this would turn it all around.
First impression: When I first arrived at the restaurant, I was a little surprised by its location. Although not hidden by any means, it still looked a little bit out of place. It's all roadside parking here, I believe, so that made me go, "awww" a little when I arrived. The big blue lights that spell out, "Apollonia", were quite mesmerizing, and almost hypnotic. I was also a little worried at first, because I called twice earlier that day to make reservations, but nobody bothered to pick up the phone.
However...
Ambiance: When I entered, I thought to myself, "wow... this is really nice!" The interior decor was great, and the atmosphere made me feel like I was a little bit more awesome than usual. Very well-furnished, and it was also very nice and quiet.
Services: Excellent. The waitress was polite, attentive, and very pleasant. We truly felt like welcomed guests!
Value: I was impressed by their menu; I thought it looked nice and clean, easy to read. The prices are comparable to the other Greek restaurants that I've been to, and it's fair.
Food: This was the real winner. At the table, we had a debate of whether it was supposed to be Calamari or Kalamari. But regardless of how it's actually spelled, it tasted awesome! The roasted lamb was "oh my goodness, yea!!!!", and the roasted chicken was two-and-a-quarter thumbs up. Portion-wise, it was quite filling.
Verdict: I am a fan of this place. I will go back when I feel like Greek food again. This place will definitely leave an impression.
Overall, great place to visit if you are any of the following:
1. Greek food lover
2. Feeling like eating at a nice restaurant.
3. Greek food lover who feels like eating at a nice restaurant.
You know how they always give you these mint candies after you get the bill? Well, these taste a little syrup-y and funky. lol
Just go and check out this place if you haven't. You won't be disappointed! And if by any chance you are not satisfied, then I will sing you a beautiful, awesome song.
Cheers -

For years, Apollonia has been receiving outstanding reviews. I live in False Creek, and I have eaten here many times over the past fifteen years. My conclusion: it is reliable and just above average.
Try Bouzyos on Commercial or Mythos in North Van for great Greek food. Try Apollonia for good Greek food, if you are in the area or have never been here before. The moussaka is standard (made in a baking tray rather than a ramekin) and the dolmas are only okay. The souvlaki and lamb dishes are quite good though.
This is a family-run establishment, which means that the service can be a bit slack sometimes. The service staff is helpful, but they are often a tad too casual for my liking.
I apologise to Apollonia if I am being a bit harsh, but I do not want diners to eat here and expect the spectacular. -

Only one word applies to the takeout we had from here....Crapollonia.
Nowhere near the quality at Olympia's or Stepho's. -

On this evening we were looking for small bites for dinner and thought that Greek would fit the bill.
I found this restaurant through Yelp and took Sheila W.'s advice by ordering the Saganaki and the appetizer platter. He had beer and I had a glass of the house Greek red wine.
The complimentary pita bread with humous and tsaziki (sp?) dips were delicious. The bread basket contained one white and one whole wheat pita which were nice and warm.
All the food was delicious. The calamari was perfectly done and came with a healthy amount on the platter.
The only thing was that all the food was a bit on the salty side (especially the cheese and the rice wrapped grape leaves), but I think that is attested to us ordering only appetizers as our sole dinner. =)
When we got the bill we noticed that we were charged two times for the Saganaki. We inquired about this and the server apologized and got our new bill right away--we even got two more ouzo candies. Yay!
The ambiance is more elegant/modern and romantic than your garden variety greek restaurant. There were mostly couples in the restaurant and one group of 4 while we were there.
I would recommend trying this place out people! If you are craving Greek food on date night, this is THE place. -

While you're thinking over the menu and debating all the delicious options, immediately order the Saganaki to start ($8.95). It's a generous slab of Greek cheese, pan-fried and brought to you on a sizzling dish. Squeeze the lemon on it and smear it on the warm pita bread they bring to your table. You'll be in heaven.
I love to share good food with friends and the platters at Apollonia never miss. For four people, you can share an appy platter that is packed with kalamari, keftedes (Greek meatballs), dolmades (delicious, slightly sour vine leaves stuffed with rice), spanakopita (spinach pie), satziki and homous dips ($21.95).
The dinner platters are for two, but they're huge. After the ample appys, one will fill up four of you. The souvlaki, whether beef, chicken or lamb, are tender and grilled to perfection. There are a few different options for dinner platters depending on what your Greek fav's are. They're around $30. Four of you can roll out of there having paid about $15 each for a feast.
This is also a great spot to hit for a tasty lunch (if you don't mind smelling of garlic for the rest of the work day). They also offer free delivery for orders over $15.95 from 5-10 pm. -

Their food is good, the service is not. I used to frequent Apollonia for lunch, but their primary server makes it such an unpleasant experience, even when you're getting takeout, I'd rather just go somewhere else.
The food is worth it, if you're willing to be treated like your business is a chore. -
