It has gorgeous stuff, and when they have sales... they are great.

Also, I find the staff to be very lovely every time I shop there.

PS - 50% off all sale items tomorrow!

I'm personally not a fan of this place, its customer service, and I can't say I quite understand their aesthetic, which, for the past year, is what I can only label "granny chic." A lot of heavy, unflattering knits and swimwear material, and bright, cornea-burning colours and floral patterns. But, hey, to each her own. I find the staff to be quite cold and unapproachable (although the fitting room staff are usually a bit nicer). I've desperately wanted to understand what the appeal is of this place, but every time I've tried something on, the clothing just falls short, especially considering the hefty price tag. The unflattering cut and mediocre quality of the clothing are just not worth the cost, and even the sale items are quite expensive.

On a positive note, I do enjoy coming in here and taking a look, as the store interior is very welcoming and spacious, and as a refuge from the extreme cold or heat during the winter and summer respectively.

I'd like to like this place, I love that they try to source different clothing and home items. It's really fun to have a look around and see something a bit different. But everything I've bought here has usually fallen apart soon after I buy it. And if they were priced closer to H&M I wouldn't even mind so much but at regular price some items are quite outrageous! Luckily there items often go on sale at heavy discounts. Psst... sale rack is on the 2nd floor, left of the stairs.

On sale, sometimes it's nice to buy something a little different but at full price, I just don't think there products are that well made. I bought a coat from there and within 2 days the stitching was coming undone. Easily fixable but at $260 I don't think I should  be restitching the coat after a week.

Sorry Anthro, hope you improve your production so I can update my post...

Anthropologie is the kind of store you go to relax or spend time when you're too early for an appointment.

I've been to Anthropologie in London and there is no comparison between the two stores of course ! The Toronto one is more intimate and have way less products. Nevertheless the store is really pretty, the staff helpful and always amiable. The ambiance (layout, smell and music) are soothing !

As for the fashion there are some gorgeous & very retro- feminine pieces made of lace, silk, chiffon and embroideries but you have to save some money first. A dress is average 150-200 dollars. The hair accessories and jewelries are pretty nice but way to pricey for" Made in China" or "Made in India". Even on sale, I find the clothe still too expensive.

At the end you better go to some vintage store and find unique pieces than buying there.

Anthropologie is two floors of retail relaxation in a neighbourhood that sometimes makes shopping feel like you're buying real estate.  The shabby chic aesthetic of Anthro is simply charming, it's very Miss Havisham meets "The Selby".  Also if you love vintagey looking prints and style wise appreciate a romantic flirtatious flare, than Anthro is your kinda store.  Admittedly I'm a little more of a leather and killer heels breed of girl but I've scored great finds for some of my personal clients that I've blissfully shopped for here at this conceptually brilliant store.

One can spend hours alone sniffing the olfactory pleasures of the different cult fragrances and artisanal toiletries. Price points for merchandise can be a bit high for what it's worth so make sure you really like something if you do buy it.  Thankfully, there is only one other Anthro location in Toronto, and the selection of items is limited so unlike H&M you wont see a lot of folks wearing the same stuff willy-nilly. What's more the markdowns section is often chock full of frendlier priced buys.

Anthro boasts the best changerooms ever. Not to mention very friendly/helpful changeroom attendants.  The "vanity" changeroom mirror made me look as svelte as Victoria Beckham!  Who needs lipo with mirrors like this!

The customer service is very agreeable.  It's laidback, but still friendly no tacky hardline sales pitches here.  Clientele at this location is either touristy or people who don't live in Yorkville that overstay their welcome by lounging on the cool retro upholstered couches trying to look self important when all they're doing is taking an hour to nurse their Starbucks.

*Random note - If you take the elevator to get between floors, like I did because I stupidly wore 5 inch heels, don't panic when the doors don't open right away.  I almost hit the emergency/panic button but thankfully noticed the handy little hand calligraphied sign that states the elevator doors are slow to open.

If you fancy yourself dressing as a nouveau Stevie Nicks and furthermore if you love browsing at length for upmarket  vintage inspired goods then Anthroplogie Yorkville will easily be a joyful way to pass the time and possibly burn a hole in your wallet too!

I like the store, the smell of the store and although I hate climbing stairs in ANY retail location, it's not so bad, I guess.

The clothes themselves are a hit and miss. Sometimes it's a hit and it is just gorgeous, but other times I wonder why I wouldn't just go to Forever 21 and buy it for much, much cheaper.

Still, it's wonderfully laid out and the clothing is worth a look over. I will say that their prices are pretty high, you're looking at $150 - $300 for a dress sometimes, and on "sale" it is $50 - $100.

i want to just move into the store. There're beds with awesome bedsheets, clothes that i love, bath and kitchen accessories i adore...i won't miss anything. except maybe a working shower.

it's not as well-stocked as my go-to store in SF...but good enough since i'm here...

PS: where is everything $10-50 more expensive than US? seems very unreasonable...esp since the HST is 13%!

    It's just OK.

Unique home decor, books, candles, jewelry, and clothes. The thing I have a problem with is that the quality of clothes is subpar for the price you are asked to shell out. Most of the clothes here are your generic Urban Outfitters boho chic/ hippie stuff. I mean, I'd rather pay the same amount at Zara or even GAP and get 2x more things and still look better and more polished. But if your "look" is dishevelled, just-got-out-of-bed hippie chick, and you care not that you're being ripped off, then by all means, go nuts.

Service is OK. Layout is OK. Sales are OK. Everything is just OK, not good or great. The only thing I'm grateful for is that they don't blare their music, thank goodness.

Anthropologie, I love you.  I must say, I would never buy an entire outfit from here but there are so many unique pieces to choose from.  The people who work there are really nice and helpful.  Some of my favourite pieces in my closet, and let me tell you there are many, are from Anthro.

The only really why I don't give them 5 stars is because they are extremely expensive, especially if you are interested in furniture or denim.  But it is worth it for unique and fun clothes and apartment decor.

I was looking for an early birthday present for my mom which allowed me to peruse Anthropologie with purpose! For some reason I just knew this would be a great to place to pick up something for anyone. I didn't get anything for me unfortunately; it was time to be focused.

First of all, great location, great building in the heart of Yorkville, on Yorkville street. The store is two floors, decorated with artful displays and packed with goodies of clothing, accessories, and an array of home décor. Woah! The selection holds such a wide range of variety and yet you always know that it is very "Anthropologie".

The sales associates are dressed to the nines and are very helpful in the way that they let you be, but are always close by enough for input. I even signed up for an Anthro card which took no time and will notify me of sales and things.

At the end of the day, I cannot reveal what I bought for my mother because she likes to check out my yelping every now and then like a proud momma should! However, I will say, whatever it is I got her is pretty bomb and I know she'll like it. I saw a ton of things to add to my wish list and found that upstairs has some steal deals! To top off the whole experience, the cashier expertly wrapped up the gift in a cute box, tied with some canvas ribbon and this felt-I-can't-explain-it bow. Thank you, Anthropologie from me and my mum.

I knew I was avoiding this place for a reason! I finally ventured in today. Wow. So many beautiful things. Expensive. Not ridiculously expensive, but still somewhat pricey.

I wasn't that bothered by the clothing, not really my style.

But the kitschy HOME DECOR items, wawa-wewa! Loads of really cool books, bedding and linens, nice dinnerware, plates, mugs, etc. All with very cool designs. I actually didn't find this stuff TOO expensive, at least not compared to the clothing.

Great place to find unique, yet functional gifts.

The design elements of the store are also nice. You can tell a lot of time, effort and creativity goes into all the displays. It's all very pleasing to look at.

I will definitely be back here to hit up Boxing week sales.

Anthropologie is an upscale fashion boutique located in Yorkville selling the most annoyingly charming items.   The buyers and designers for Anthro have a flare for interesting, feminine, and fun patterns. Their house wares are also so endearing and adorable.  I am not able to go into this store and not purchase anything.  Anthro is my crack.  I am going cold turkey this month and it is gruellingly difficult for me.  Every Monday new items go on sale and I feel like I need to make a "score."  How is a girl supposed to save money while living in Toronto?!  What the hell is an RRSP?  However, I would advise the young ladies out there that there is no reason that you should buy things full price from anthro unless you can not live without it.....Merchandise always goes on sale and the original prices are sometimes offensive.  $118 for a blouse with some birds on it. Give me a break.  Wait a little while and you may purchase it for $40.  I love a good sale. The clothes are well made and are very original.  The store staff are usually pretty nice and they provide you with nice boxes and delightful wrapping finishes for presents.   This is one of my favorite places to shop.  I highly recommend this establishment.

This location is beautiful, tall and open. I love when Anthropologie has two floors because it opens up the store and I love how they decorate the space.

I love this location because the sales staff are so friendly. I always love to browse at Anthropologie, but it's so expensive I rarely buy anything. While this location is beautiful, because it is in Canada, it is more expensive than US locations. If you are visiting from the states I would recommend scoping out what you want but not buying it there.

That said, this location also has a great sale section tucked away upstairs (which is the only place I will buy something. I don't care how nice it is, I'm not buying a tank top for $98.) Sometimes the mark downs still don't make their clothes affordable (a $400 dress down to $350 is still expensive) but sometimes if you come at the right time of the year (after christmas, fall, etc.) you can find some good deals. Especially bags, accessories and housewares. It sounds silly but I usually buy books on sale from Anthro because they get so cheap ($3 for a great paperback) and their cups and plates are also very affordable on sale.

Anthropologie is owned by Urban Outfitters which makes so much sense: items are priced way higher than you would expect given the quality of manufacture.

Fabrics are crappy, construction is crappy, service is nothing to note either.

I am a stickler for details... especially the ones you can't see:
Intricate writings engraved along a button
The inside lining of a jacket
The the design on a shoe sole
If that sounds ridiculous... skip this store but if you are salivating right now RUN (don't walk) to your nearest Athropologie.
This location is two floors and they carry woman's clothing, loungewear, accessories, flatware/home decor items and general found objects.

The visual concept for Anthropologie is breathtaking.
Nine foot tall cranes made entirely of conned newspaper, old distressed cabinets used as shelving, and vintage teapots displayed next to amazing textile coffee table books

The clothes themselves are clean, classic and ultra feminine. I am pretty curvy and buying "adult clothing" that is both affordable and age appropriate is sometimes difficult. I managed to find an adorable retro style halter dress!

As for the price, it's not bargain pricing but it's inline with Aritzia, Banana Republic, Tristan & America and Club Monaco. $120 for a dress is nothing if you consider a dress at Le Chateau can cost the same amount without the whimsical details.

Keep an eye out for the hidden sale section upstairs.
It's is a bit cramped but you can find some great deals.

The change rooms are large, actually have a mirror in the inside, and plenty of room to hang your garments. If you are shopping solo or like braving a brutal self-opinion, there are also two large 3 way mirrors in the change room area.

    oooooooohhhhhh!

Attention Please!  Attention fellow shoppers.  There is an EPIC sale happening here right now.  Epic as in I picked up a $200 dress for $25, a $70 top for $6, a bunch of $80-$100 tops for $12 each.  I bought a TON of stuff and spent about $100.  It is pure insanity.

There are some stores that just intimidate the crap out of me. This is one of them... at least at first. How silly and very 'Pretty Woman' of me (you know the scene I'm talking about, where Vivian is turned away from the boutique - not that I'm comparing Anthropologie to a high-end couture shop or me to a whore with a heart of gold...)

So what made me go in here? Well, my friend raved about buying a very cute top from here (despite fretting about the price). Then her next mistake was forwarding me a link to the website. I instantly fell in love with the garments but at the time it was a mere 'admire from afar' so I decided to check out this new location.

Granted, I had low expectations: 1. they would not have half the selections that were featured on the site and 2. no way would anything fit me. Well, looks like I owe the universe a Coke because I was proven wrong on both accounts.

The store itself is huge and a bit overwhelming to the point I'm not sure if I've raided that rack yet.

As for the prices... it is not cheap but some days you gotta say to yourself "What the eff. I think I deserve a little treat today". And right now with the changing season, their summer stuff is on sale (40% off the lowest marked price - seriously, throw some leggings under that skirt and you're ready for fall wear!) But don't make a sale be your only reason to step into this store - give it a whirl and you might find something that is worth its price in gold.

To many of my friends have gushed about finally finding an Anthropologie in Toronto and wondering when I am going to check it out, I say to them, "Yes, it's a nice store, if you like hippy-flowy flowery clothing and housewares."
Funny, things never change here. It's been full of a mish-mash of tanks, dresses, and flowy sweaters and tops since the early '00's.

As I am a huge fan of Urban Outfitters, it's no surprise that Anthropologie matched my exact tastes. I have to say going into the two story shop is quite intimidating, particularly since it's located in the middle of Yorkville (with rich boutiques galore), but thankfully, my friend convinced me that this store was amazing.

And...expensive. The ground level sells new arrivals, regularly priced merchandise and a nice collection of antique looking accessories and houseware. Perhaps if I had not ventured onto the second level, I would have left within 5 minutes. True I was shocked with the original prices but when I saw the racks of sales, my heart leapt with giddiness. (The numerous racks were probably due to the boxing day leftovers.) Shirts started at $10; I snagged a cute summery dress for $10 and a turquoise cardigan for $20. There were coats, pants, stockings; almost the entire second floor was on sale!

However, it was a little bit hard to maneuver at times and the layout of the store was slightly confusing with random tables, beds, and racks sprouting out of nowhere. I don't expect that their sales are always this big but with careful searching, you will for sure find a deal! Plus, the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yes, the central Toronto branch of Anthro opened last week.
The stock is identical to the store at Don Mills - unfortunately, neither of them sell Anthropologie's beautiful shoes. But, there is a huge amount of merchandise to browse through
Anyway, I liked the layout of the store: two storeys and lots of little corners. The clothes are displayed along with housewares in a very stylish manner.
I guess I'm not too inspired with Anthro's Summer '09 line. I didn't buy anything today - I tried on dresses but I didn't like the cut of any of them. However, my shopping companion bought trousers and a pretty blouse. I'll be back to look around again next time I need a dress for a special occasion.

    Oh my.

Like Michelle said, this place is a bit intimidating at first, but then you get so caught up in everything it has to offer and your nose gets filled with the scent of the numerous candles and all your worries drift away...

Until you look at the price.  Anthropologie is expensive, but don't fear, just like her more mainstream older sister Urban Outfitters, they have some pretty great sales.  The store has a lot to offer.  Adorable cardigans and jackets, dresses, skirts, blouses, pajamas, accessories and that's just their clothing!  Their house-wears is extensive, and probably my favourite part of the store.  This includes: Pillows, hardware (doorknobs, drawer pulls and handles, hooks, switch plates, brackets...) picture frames, candles and holders, mugs, plates and furniture.  I love the furniture.  They have a few "distressed" looking chairs that have been redone with paint and patterns.  Very cool pieces, but way out of my price range.

However, the first time I went into the Yorkville location, I took advantage of the sales and bought 2 shirts, a make up bag, two candle holders and a picture frame for only $60!  The shirts were $10 each!  I recently went back and bought a blouse for half price (from $98 to $39.99), so basically if you're patient, the dress or cardigan you've been eyeing for weeks will eventually go on sale.  One complaint of mine is that the sale area is too small.  It's on the second floor in a cramped area, with two racks on top of each other and another roll-rack in the middle.  You can't really move around or bend down to view everything.  However, one thing I've noticed is that sale racks are scattered around the second floor, so make sure to take a thorough look around because you don't know what you'll uncover!

Overall, shopping in this store is one perfect girly experience.  From the scented candles burning in the change rooms, to the indie music (first time I was in there I noted Camera Obscura and Laura Veirs) they play.  It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, even when I'm dressed in all black with bags under my eyes the employees never seem to mind!

I find the clothes here not my style, or if they are, ridiculously over priced. Would love to check out this sale that Abby below was talking about!
What I really like about the store is its unique housewares, bathroom and linens. I like the comparison to Urban Outfitters, because that's how it feels but with a grown up and more hippy version.

My only complaint is that sometimes when I go in, there is a pungent perfumey smell.
