Review from Odette C.

I live with an older dog...a 14 year old Samoyed and never had any luck with vets.
What started out to be a 70 lb white ball of fur ended up with bald patches throughout his tummy, hind legs etc. Therefore we spared no expense and visited the only dermatology/vet in town.
Dr. Charach concluded right from the start it's Cushing's, which is a tumor in either the pituitary or Adrenal gland. My face went white...The doctor spent 1/2 hour explaining the screening procedures while I shake in my chair. 1st we will do the regular blood panel, then a low dose dexamethasone test, then 8 hours later another blood panel so on and so forth.
So we waited 20 minutes for the 1st blood panel results while the doctor checked on another patient. Wow the blood panel results looks better than my husbands' results. Doctor came back to confirm this of course...phew your dog is cured. What a statement. At this time we had taken more blood than needed so doc. decided to do another test for thyroid?
Everything is in order so in the end regular antiboitics prescribed the the visit $500. EXPENSIVE.
Conclusion, Dr. Charach is actually very knowledgable; however maybe not to scare the poor pet owners before we have actually determined the illness...thank-you.
Have to go back tomorrow for a prescription refill. Hopefully it will not cost another $500 -

I'm giving Dr C a 2.5 stars review. If you book an appointment with him, be prepared to wait 30-60 minutes in the waiting room. After seeing the doc we realized that our dog had some sort of food allergy. After 3 visits, we still haven't narrowed down what she's allergic to. The recent visits have been nauseating as we sit there and listen to the same lecture. It's the same information, basically narrow down the different types of food and experiment until the dog doesn't react. If they start scratching, start again with a different combination. We've only continued to see him to have him administer antibiotics. Keep in mind, remember to book your follow up within the time frame or they will recharge you the re-examination fee. Nothing is done differently in the re-examination.
Also just a warning, this place is expensive. You won't be leaving the clinic without spending at least 350-400 bucks. I've listened to what he's have to say enough times to probably teach anyone who has a pet with food allergies.
Dr B has better patient skills, Dr C is almost a mad scientist mumbling to himself. Besides the pre-waiting, the actual examination takes a long time too. Be prepared... -
Review from Natasha L.
The miracle doctor who finally cured (finger crossed) my baby's skin. A stark contrast from the vet in Marpole, this one is actually well informed and knew what he was talking about. He even gives seminars about animal allergies.
He even gave us several lists of articles of allergies and dogs ( more than 60% allergic to beef) and how to manage the allergies.
Taking one star off because I'm personally in recessionary mode ( but noticed that the doctor didn't charge for follow up =)) And they do offer very reasonable rate for dental cleaning.
Definitely recommend him to anyone whose furry babies have skin problems.Listed in: Dogs etc.

Horrible bedside manner. The doctor kept leaving to go make calls to Dr.Charach and ask for his opinion. They did multiple tests including a very invasive biopsy of my dogs foot in a clinic that doesn't seem equipped to be doing invasive procedures. Almost a thousand dollars later and they say the test were inconclusive and they would like to do more tests. They suspect Cushing's, I take my dog and get the heck out of there. I go to my regular vet he does the test for Cushing's, the results come back negative. I will not be back to this clinic.
