I've tried my butt off to find a barber or hair stylist that can read my hair. I'm half black, so my hair has that unfortunate combination of being straight at the roots, and curly at the ends. My head is like a human Chia Pet. I've been to an Iranian barber who is angry and continually tells my not to trust Iranians, a blind barber who can't see through his coke bottle glasses clear enough to cut in a straight lie, and a drunk stylist who takes an hour to give me a hair cut because she's too busy disappearing into the back room to get a little sip of something. Getting my hair cut is the bane of my existence.
I met a good man named Daniel Ampong on the street one day. He told me that he owned a hair studio in New Westminster called Anim. He mentioned that he had a black barber who was creating quite the name for himself. He told me to stop by and check him out the next time I'm in town. Well, I didn't need to be in town to get myself a fresh new cut. I went there the next week.
BK is the barber's name. He's a Rasta from Jamaica who has a great spirit and a laid back personality that you instantly connect with. He took about an hour to cut my hair, but he didn't rush, and it showed in the end. He told me that he takes his time because he wants to make sure that every thing is perfect. BK has had experience cutting hair for over ten years. He cuts the hair of celebrities when they're in town. Ice Cube, Snoop Dog and others call him up for a trim when they're around doing their thing. BK is a modest man with a strong spiritual belief in treating everyone with love and kindness.
I like him and the studio (which is filled with young women at all times). Take the time to go out to New West.

Meet the Manager: Nancy W.
Nancy, the Manager and head stylist of Anim Hair and Beauty Studio has been in the hair industry for the last 15 years. Training from VCC Hair School she has used her training and talent to become one of the most sought after hair stylists in Vancouver. Specializing in all types of hair she has successfully built a large client base that includes local and Hollywood celebrities. Her many talents include hair extensions, coloring, makeup, cuts and styles. Also, with her friendly and bubbly personality Nancy keeps her clients laughing in her chair.
