It was the selection of Passover food that first brought us through Andy's doors.  Yes, there was once a time that Andy's had a virtual monopoly in Edmonton on Kosher food, although the situation is much better these days.  Even though we can go to Sobey's in Callingwood, for example, Andy's has enough going for it that we've stayed loyal.  BTW, it's not just the kosher food but they have a good selection of other kosher items, such as Sabbath candles.

One attraction is that they have real people to serve in the butcher shop.  Don't see it?  They'll go into the cooler to find it.  Need a frozen chicken cut in half.  The butcher shop is happy to oblige.  Compare that to the attitude in any of the other supermarkets.

Another reason to go to Andy's is for the bakery.  If you're from Quebec, they have milles feuilles; just ask for vanilla slices.  They also have eccles cakes, a treat if you're from the UK.  Right beside the bakery is the deli, which has authentic Montreal smoked meat, another Quebecois delicacy.

In summary, Andy's doesn't have the lowest prices in town.  However, they have things you can't get elsewhere.  Also, the staff are very friendly and they always have enough cashiers so there's hardly ever a lineup.

Andy's Valleyview IGA is one of the few independent IGA stores left in Edmonton. This is a family business that is community oriented, as can be seen by its support of local organizations. The size of the grocery is average, with a good selection of items. The bakery features some artisan breads, and the deli counter has a lot of salads. You can also get pre-prepared hot foods, especially rotisserie chicken which is tender and juicy. Pot pies and hot wings are other specialties here. This IGA is also known for its selection of kosher food items carried year-round, as well as frozen kosher meat. At Passover, this is one of the few stores in the city that carries a good selection of foods for the holiday.  My family has been shopping here for years because of its selection, convenient location, and great prices.
