First, we didn't actually stay here so the review is just on a visit to the property and inspection of a room/suite.

Some friends had a party here recently and rented one of the suites on the 6th (top floor) of the hotel. This is a Hyatt property but the Andaz is a boutique hotel that is small and has a fun flair. The vibe reminded me of the "W" I stayed at once in Beverly Hills. Very upbeat and a young feeling to it. Hotel had great security during our visit and it made the place feel safe and in control.

The suite was a fantastic room, on the small side but the decor and space layout was super nice. Had a fun feel to it, mood lights that changed color, a nice wet bar and 2 bedrooms with an all glass shower that had opaque glass that opened up to the bedroom. Very sexy----super hot!

Not sure what the rate was here but based on the room, cleanliness of the property and security that was all over keeping people in control and only guests in the elevator, I would certainly stay here if I wanted a room in Downtown/Gaslamp for the night, weekend or longer.

    Fun hotel.

I had a great great great experience/stay at the Andaz. I have never had to stay downtown San Diego, so I did a little research and the Andaz looked promising with positive reviews (I forgot to check yelp reviews). I booked online for a queen room $179 but marked the option to be on reserve/standby for an upgrade to an XL King room for only $9 more (usually $230-$250/night)...we arrived to be greated by Jason who definitely made my girlfriend and I feel welcome and was very friendly.

The upgrade to XL room was ridiculously nice, although small, but why do you need a lot of space in a hotel room for a couple? The mood was automatically set when we walked in to see dimmed lights, music playing, flat screen TV, a lot of mirrors, an iPod dock station, a see-thru shower, a downtown city view, and a full mini-bar (with some free aspects to it). We got room service in the morning and were pleased overall. Since we were just there for a night (Tuesday), I can't complain about any noise and we did not go out at all, although seems like a great spot for going out. Neither of us are into finer things or made of money, just a young couple visiting the city wanting to stay a nice place. We just wanted to have a quiet romantic night, and the Andaz was exactly that. So if that meets your demographic and mindset, I highly recommend it.

The Andaz was very comparable to other hotels in Downtown price wise, but I doubt others were as classy and high quality as the Andaz. All hotels have pricey valet including the Andaz. Do your research, but I definitely recommend giving it a try! You'll feel spoiled.

I great place to stay and party. This year we arrived on a Friday with 80 degree weather. The rooftop is amazing with views of the city. Lounging on the rooftop is a must. Order some drinks and your set.

    1. You get VIP assess to the Ivy Rooftop club and there is also dancing downstairs. The best part is being able to get off the elevator and chill out in your room with your own premium alcohol. I think drinks were around $15 at the bar, so bring your own so you can enjoy in your room then head out for dancing just steps away. I recommend a room near the elevator.
    2. The Andaz Large King room was great, I love the enclosed glass shower in the middle of your room and the sofa & coffee table is perfect to enjoy your drinks. The Andaz Extra Large King was nice (bathroom was standard) but I just loved the Large King better.
    3. Breakfast on the rooftop was great, I wanted to sit in the sun, so they moved a table for us. Food was great, but pricey. i think you are paying for the rooftop location and the convenience of just going up the elevator in some shorts and a tank top, then back to your room to get ready for the day. We only stayed here one night, but if we did stay another night we would of lounged at the pool.

This review is targeted to business travelers or families with young children.

We had a similar experience as Daniel L. A bunch of colleagues and I attended a work conference and at the recommendation of one, we stayed at the Andaz. Instead of a quiet hotel room, we ended up with a room right above the wine bar/club on the first floor. The boom-boom music and street noise lasted until about 2:30am. We were warned about this the night we checked in, but we're hoping the music and noise would be tolerable.

The next day we asked to change rooms, unfortunately I think they forgot our request and we ended up with the same room. I communicated my disappointment to the front desk. Fortunately, I was speaking to the the assistant manager at the time, Karla P., and she worked some magic for us. Andaz, though a boutique hotel/club, is part of the Hyatt family and has a big sister hotel (Manchester Hyatt  with 1,600 rooms!) next to the San Diego Convention Center where our conference was being held.

In addition to getting us a room at the Manchester Hyatt, Karla also gave us free buffet breakfast and comped our room for the 1 night at Andaz. Overall not the smoothest hotel stay, but Karla did her best to fix the problem. After the conference, Karla took the extra step of calling me to see how our stay at the Manchester went. I would give 5 stars for Karla if I had the option.

I'm giving 2 stars based on my experience. If you are a twenty-something person and looking for the hot club scene (even the taxis knows about the club), then this is the hotel is for you. Otherwise, research a bit more for a quiet and family friendly hotel.

Bad, and I mean REALLY BAD! Looks nice, feels nice, but this place is absolutely horrible!! I am so disappointed with my recent stay and I question my loyalty to the Hyatt family. Overly aggressive bouncers, unfriendly staff, noisy hotel, and a homeless encampment (Salvation Army) across the street surely put a damper on our stay. Overpriced drinks combined with overly crowded bars/nightclubs will have you waiting a very long time for that expensive cocktail. The gentleman working the front door acted like an arrogant, pompous jerk and needs to be placed elsewhere. We were charged for valet parking although we arrived by taxi. Our room was adjacent to the Salvation Army and each morning around 6am we were awakened by the chaos caused by the homeless population as they prepared to be fed.

I could go on and on but I think you get the point. I guess this is what I get for trying a different hotel on my latest visit to San Diego. For the price and location, I will be staying at the Residence Inn by Marriott for my next visit. I absolutely love that place and its in a much better location.

I gave The Andaz San Diego five stars, only because six is not an option.

From the moment you step into this luxury boutique hotel that has an excellent location in the Gaslamp Quarter, you will be impressed.  Evident throughout your time here, will be the attention to detail, and the staff.  Warm, friendly, attentive and helpful easily describes the Andaz San Diego team, and you will notice this whether you are talking to the valet team, greeters, waiters, bartenders, etc.

The food is exceptional - the result of a chef that cares not only about the high-quality and inventive dishes, but the environment (Chef Reese sources local products, Brandt beef, Monterey Bay Aquarium seafood watch endorsed fish).

Other highlights include the hip bedrooms that are trendy and spacious; rooftop pool and bar; wine room with 88 automated machines; Katsuya restaurant.

Great spot for a weekend getaway!  My wife and I recently stayed here for our wedding anniversary and were very satisfied with all aspects of the hotel.  Adam greeted us, took our bags, offered us a free beverage, checked us in and took us to our room.  The room was very clean and the entire hotel in ultra modern, with vintage feel.  In the room the bed was comfortable, the tv is large, there is a iPod dock that sounds REALLY good, and a bar with many free items such as soda, sparkling water, and bottled water.

Upon returning to our room the first night we found cigarette smoke in our bathroom.  After a call and a visit from housekeeping, we were moved quickly to another room by Vladimir.  Excellent service in my opinion.  We also received truffles and a card for our anniversary!  We had room service twice and both times the food was delivered quickly and was very, very good!  It does get a bit louod at night, but not too bad. Also make sure you get a wristband after eight (all guests get two) and you can go to any of the night clubs or bars with no cover or hassle!

The gym is really great, the rooftop terrace is beyond amazing and I cannot stress enough how friendly and helpful all the employees at the Andaz are!   I feel very comfortable recommending this hotel and will be back very soon!

Hot upscale hotel located in the middle of the Gaslamp district. Bold modern decor. 6 floors and a rooftop pool with a full bar. Downstairs club has events often. The Andaz has a wine bar and a nice restaurant (closed till mid 2012, turning into a sushi bar).

Extremely attentive hotel staff downstairs.  All employees in the lobby are also a concierge, so anyone can give you a great recommendation for the best places to go in the Gaslamp for sophisticated cocktails or a great dinner.   During events hotel guests have a separate elevator for easy access to their room or the rooftop.  Elevator attendants are friendly and attentive.  Rooms are supplied with complimentary snacks and beverages, in addition to a fridge and a full bar.  4:00 P.M. check in and 12:00 P.M check out.

The Andaz is a very upscale hotel, guests should dress accordingly.  Dress code strictly enforced at events.  Guys need a suit and tie, ladies a classy dress. Stay at the Andaz if you want to go clubbing downtown and live it up in style.

    Top reasons this hotel sucks.

    1. Parking
Not really THAT big of deal. Pricey at $35/night. So a total of $70 for two nights. They try to sell the benefits of in and out privileges. Really? Thankfully gaslamp has plenty of  other parking lots with reasonable prices ($10/night). So like I said parking is not THAT big of a deal....its an easy fix. But just inconvenient.

    2. Hotel rooms
Rates for a regular room are $200+/night. At that rate, I expect 5 star quality. We booked a king room. We walked into a room with a queen bed. In addition to that, the room was only slightly larger than the bed. Seriously no floor space. Every single wall is within arms length of the bed. Towels were rough and gross. Blankets were not warm at all. Space is small and super uncomfortable. I would not stay and "relax" in the room....feels like the walls are closing in. Bathrooms are nice. But that's it.

    3. Hotel staff
Horrible. Without hesitation. Hands down the worst I've experienced. This is actually the #1 reason I would not come back or refer friends/family. From check-in to bell boy to elevator operator (yes, elevator operator), housekeeping , security, everything. As you enter the hotel several ladies greet you. And its not nice...its overwhelming and their welcome is not sincere. Elevator operators have little man syndrome. Your job is really not that serious..so relax. They wouldn't let one of the girls in our party back up without a key less than 5 minutes of her coming down. She left her cell phone upstairs and the front desk wouldnt call our room for her. She didn't have her purse or shoes so had to walk to another friends hotel barefoot in the middle of the night. Jerks.

A lovely downtown San Diego hotel. A place I could come to whenever I need a place to stay in the area.

We came here for new year's eve weekend. Check-in was a breeze. No counters! Gotta love that.

Our room was one notch up from the standard king which was a perfect size considering the urban location. Beware the glass shower that is exposed to the rest of the room. It can be a sensual heaven for couples, or an awkward situation if you're not that close with your fellow traveller.

The decor was lovely and modern as expected. The storage space is limited considering its urban location, so don't expect lots of space to unpack.

When we headed out, the guys manning the valet station always made light conversation about our plans for the day and if we needed directions. A few nights for dinner, they pulled the Andaz Escalade around and drove us to our restaurant upon seeing the sky high heels I was wearing. Their service certainly left a good impression on me.

All in all, a great experience. I would definitely come back again. Especially to see their new restaurant open!

the staff at this hotel is really bad.  apparently it turns into a club when the sun goes down complete with aggro bouncer at the front door. both times I've stayed here I've had trouble getting into the lobby in the evening. the door guy is rude and their policies are pretty stupid. apparently I've got to have a wristband to even be in the lobby (not drinking or anything.. just passing through on my way out for the night). my friends that have shown up to see me were treated just as poorly.

the first time i stayed here was new years eve 2010/2011.  the hyatt corporate office ended up comp'ing my expenses that night because i had such a bad experience.  i thought maybe things would have been different this time around but no such luck. last night was just as bad.

the rooms are nice which is the only reason this place didn't get one star.

It's now close to 2am as I write this review. Very very loud hotel! Had no idea!!! Cool hotel during the day and brothel at night. Sluts and douchebags fill the lobby, elevators, rooms, club, and rooftop pool around 9pm and continue till who knows when. People are partying on my floor with complete disregard for other guests. I called the lobby and they said they would send security - that didn't happen. Never staying here again.

I stayed here the night before and the night of my wedding in July 2011. Everything about the day was absolutely perfect...with one exception, staying at the Andaz. We paid for early check in and were not able to check in until AFTER their normal check in time, which is a very late 4pm. The staff was nice and kind, but they did not follow through with their promises. I expected that after bringing guests to stay in more than 10 of the rooms at their establishment AND it being the most important day of my life, I would get service that was above and beyond exceptional. Well, I can honestly say I have received better, more timely and accurate service at Motel 6.

After a magical ceremony and amazing reception in Balboa Park, we returned to our 1st floor suite (after requesting a higher floor upon reservation) to find the room had not been cleaned. There was still breakfast stuffs from that morning, trash and dirty towels and the bed was still as it was when I had left early that day. This is most upsetting because I had spoken with the maid personally and asked that she please return at a specific time, once we had left, to get the room prepared for the bride and grooms' return. My Maid of honor had also spoken with the front desk to see that the room be cleaned and perhaps given an extra special touch, being it our wedding night and all.... Well, in my white gown, I ended up cleaning the room myself. Not the most romantic thing ever.

The room it self was nicely decorated, though very very dim for getting ready.  The bathroom floorboards were coming up and several of my bridesmaids and I tripped or snagged a toe on the floor.  The sink sprayed all over the bathroom and left huge puddles of water on the counter and floor.  There was no where to hang towels, so they had to be left on the floor creating an unsightly mess.  These things, in addition to the less than fair service left me feeling like a sad, big eyed puppy about this "luxurious" hotel.  Far from the Ritz, the 4 Seasons or your basic Ramada.  For $800, I expect cleanliness, functionality and follow-through...none of which we experienced on our most special night.  =(

It is a good thing we got superb, out of this world service on our honey moon in a 3rd world country...because the Andaz sure as hell let us down, big time.

If you're down to party then this hotel is for you!

The rooms are clean and comfy. The staff are professional and accommodating.

Generous amount of complementary snacks and drinks in the rooms (the snacks inside the bin are included. Alcoholic and energy drinks are excluded).

If you can't or too lazy to walk to the liquor store, different kinds of liquor are available in the room for your convenience, for a price, of course. Goose is $70 for a (275ml?) bottle.

If you're feeling naughty, sexy accesories are available in the rooms, at a cost, for your pleasure (condoms, edible thongs, massage oil, etc.).

Chill on the rooftop by the pool in the afternoon with some food and drinks, which were both better than I expected. Then party at night - all without having to leave the hotel.

As a guest, you get bracelets (2 for a single room, 4 for a double) that will get you into all 3 clubs inside the hotel without having to pay nor wait in the ridiculously long line. The rooftop is where it's cracking.

It's like partying at a rich kid's house. You can get trashed and KO just a few floors down.

I've always had incredible experiences at the Andaz. Truly a world class establishment for all intents and purposes. The Star Suite was an especially memorable experience!! Every time I visit, I know I can count on great service! A few extraordinary employees at the Andaz: Matt from valet- he's a Peninsula-level employee in professionalism and character. He always goes far above and beyond when I visit; Jeremey from Ivy- a very experienced, professional doorman which is becoming, unfortunately, a rare breed in San Diego; Tim B. From Ivy- another incredibly professional and experienced individual; Spencer from Concierge- very well connected and personable individual! And those are just a few I can think of, off the top of my head!! If you wish to stay at a hotel that prides itself on guests' satisfaction, look no further than Andaz San Diego.

Complimentary non-alcoholic refreshments in the lobby and in the room and a coutesy car service really, REALLY set this place apart!!

This was a mixed bag for me.

The hotel is suppose to be an upscale boutique-style hotel, but I've been to much better places than this.

We bidded two rooms through Priceline for one night at about $80 each so it was dirt cheap. We wanted to get a room in the Gaslamp area and Priceline gave us Andaz.

We checked in at about 7 after spending more than 7 hours driving from Las Vegas. Check-in went smoothly and the staff were friendly.

We got the 3rd floor and we thought the noise from the roof-top's night club wouldn't be too bad. However, I could hear a lot of noise and even by the time it was over, I still had a noise problems. The ventilator or whatever it was kept making a huge amount of noise. At first I thought it was the air con and tried to see if there was a switch or something. I couldn't find anything, so it was rather hard to sleep. The bathroom was bothersome. Granted, I had the room to myself, but there's just something about having a glass for a wall that makes me shudder. Unless you step further into the shower, you could be seen if someone else was in the room so there doesn't seem to be a sense of privacy whatsoever. The shower had this hole on the glass side where you could put a towel over it. I don't understand the purpose of the hole. Let some steam out I guess? The whole bathroom was just one major "uhhhhh......" I did however like the shampoo and conditioner, as well as the body lotion. Smells really good! Other than that, the only really good things were the free pop and chocolate which I happily took advantage of. There's also wifi which was really nice. They also had an ipod dock, but for some reason my iphone wouldn't charge or play. I have a feeling because it's brand new (iphone 4S). The bed was ok, nothing special, but I couldn't sleep due to the noise.

Would I come back? For the regular price they charge? No. But for the price I got on Priceline, I'm willing to go.

Frequent visitor to San Diego for both business and pleasure.  While I usually stay elsewhere, for this last minute trip I  had the good fortune to book a room at the Andaz last week via Amex, paid for with points.

After a long drive I showed up at the hotel around 1 AM on a Monday night.  The hotel and the city were very quiet.  The doorman greeted me warmly and I entered the beautiful modern lobby of this Hyatt property.  Check in was a breeze and was expertly handled by James at the front desk via his iPad.  Given that this was 1 AM on a Monday night, one could not expect a full house.  Without even having to ask, James offered to upgrade me to a much nicer room and gave me a good recommendation for a late night dinner.

When I reached the room I was quite pleased at the modern styling and the cool glass shower.  The iPod dock was a great way to charge my iPhone overnight and the large flat screen tv was great as I checked the news in the morning while getting ready.  A big A+ for the free soda and non-alcoholic beverages from the mini-bar.  Also liked the Keurig coffee maker with a nice selection of cups.  The bed was comfortable and I had no trouble feeling at home in this room.

While I did not have much time to explore this property, I did have a chance to briefly explore the rooftop oasis that many other Yelpers have mentioned.  This must be the coolest rooftop lounge in the city.  I cannot wait to come back on a weekend and have a few cocktails.

While other Yelpers may throw out 5 stars, I reserve the 5 star rating for only the finest properties in the world.  It takes a mind blowing experience to get five stars out of me.  Peninsula Hong Kong is five stars, I mean pick me up at the airport in a Rolls Royce Phantom and you have a shot at the elusive 5th star.

That being said, the Andaz exceeded my expectations for both service and comfort.  I will be back.

    Had my wedding here...

Mixed reviews.  Hotel staff = amazing.  Chef Brian = Amazing.  Food = Amazing.  Location = couldn't ask for better.  Catering Manager = Amazing.  Event planning MANAGER Anita = Amazing.  Event planner (to remain nameless) ... HORRIBLE!!! If it hadn't been for everyone else in the hotel working so hard to overcome her incompetence my experience would have been ruined.

As far as San Diego venues go... it's still awesome.  Just make sure you either get a competent planner on site, or have YOUR planner do all the communicating with them.

The food was awesome, and I am still getting complements.  Overall, my guests and I had a blast.  We did a ton of events at the hotel over 3 days and with so many friends and family staying in the hotel it was really fun.  I felt like I had a destination wedding even though my husband and I are both born and raised in San Diego.

I am ashamed that I am able to review this place, as it is far from my "style", but  I must confess that I have a secret fetish for anthropological observation of human sexual behavior in obnoxious venues:) Andaz proved itself worthy of observing. It was like watching mating rituals on Animal Planet!! Who could ask for more on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

San Diego's finest singles came dressed to impress for this modern and funky roof top pool/ day and night club. Overly masculinized men attentively stalked, assessed and attacked their prey, or should I say sacrifices, as the prey seemed willing to be devoured. The poolside scene became more entertaining with every glass of champagne. While service and ambience was up to par, I don't think that I will be back.

Service was excellent, although it appeared that the patrons had little appreciation or respect for such a rare commodity.

The hotel itself has great views of downtown from the rooftop club. The hotel rooms are adorable, sexy, and quaint. While I am sure romantic for some, watching your love interest take a shower from bed might a bit much. I really don't have the desire to be admired while washing my nether region.  A little to old and private for such a peep show.

Overall, pretentious, ostentatious and fake come to mind when I think of Andaz. If you look the part, you will be treated like royalty. If you are just human and don't need others to justify your value or existence, please go elsewhere! And if you do go, please tip the service and say thank you.

I found Andaz through Priceline, and after reading a bunch of reviews about the noise of the club, was hitting the regretful panic button. But fortunately, no need! Our room on the 4th floor [inside room] was nice and quiet. The Andaz Queen is their smallest room, but it was sufficient for two.

The amenities at Andaz are fantastic. A complimentary beverage upon check-in! Free water, tea, juice, and some snacks in the room that are replenished daily too. So swanky that the only thing really missing was a loofah!

Service was excellent. I especially loved skipping the lines into the hotel when there were crowds outside waiting to get inside to the rooftop nightclub! Security keeps an eye on the elevator during clubbing hours, so you don't have to worry about someone random wandering around your floor late at night.

Valet parking is available, but we opted for a cheaper local lot instead.

I'd stay at Andaz again if I was back in San Diego!

This hotel is beautiful. We stayed here for my cousins bachelorette party and loved it. The beds are super comfy, the bathroom is very nice. Includes club access to Ivy, and the bouncers/elevator guys are very funny and nice. I don't agree with the $35 valet parking, and I don't like the lack of lighting in the bathroom. Overall nice experience. Would recommend.

Gorgeous, modern, and an extremely trendy hotel. Great service, and everyone was so friendly! Hubs and I stayed here for 4 nights for a long weekend to enjoy San Diego. Great location in Gaslamp since it was only walking distance to everywhere we needed to go. Need coffee? Starbucks was a block away. Need to go shopping? Horton Plaza is a few blocks. Bars? Just walk down 5th avenue.

It was great to be a hotel guest, especially if you go up to their rooftop. Free wristbands, and we were pretty much treated like VIP :)

My few gripes was that there wasn't really a place to hang your towel and the Wifi was a little spotty! Oh, and stay around the 3rd floor. The noise from the club can get really loud!

This hotel is just screaming fancy and elite.  I stayed here 6 nights and I had a fantastic time.  The decor and feel was contemporary.  A lot of straight lines, clean and sleek look.  At check in you get greeted with wine, water, juice, whatever you fancy.  So warm and welcoming.

My room was so nice.  And they have a lot of things complimentary.  That does not happen often.  All soda, water, sparkling water, juices, candy bar, chips and energy bar - all complimentary.  And they stuff up every morning.  For the lovers out there, they have "toys" they provide that you can purchase.  And oh,  in the closet I found a wooden paddle, mmmmmm wonder what that is for ;) Sexy!

Great service.  Everybody is just helpful and nice.  One time I had my privacy sign on my door so I missed cleaning.  They left me a message asking when they can come back to clean my room.  Front desk again called me to ask if I needed something, towels maybe?  How cool is that?

I got in free for the Ivy Rooftop Lounge one weekend night since I was staying in the hotel.  Nice ambiance with a 360 view of San Diego.  2 bars with pretty lounge chairs all around.  They were playing music I like.  Crowd here - very good.  A lot of people my age, what a comfort.  For when it's cold, they have a big fire pit you can hang out around while getting some warmth.

You can access the rooftop anytime.  Perfect for relaxing or reading around the pool area.  And they have a gym for workout rats out there.

I'm not a fan of their room service.  Food was underwhelming.  When I did dine in one time at the restaurant it was the same thing - food was just okay.  The ahi salad was a little better tho.

I had a very fun stay...I will miss you Andaz!

I stayed here for business and it lived up to my expectations based on previous reviews. Staff was very friendly and I was offered a drink upon checkin. The room came with a well-stocked bar and almost all of the nonalcoholic items were complimentary. I did find a couple of things to be a little strange. First of all, the room had no drawers. I ended up putting items that could not be hung up on a shelf on the top of the closet.  More puzzling was the giant glass wall that separated the bedroom area from the rest of the room. There was very little space between where the wall ended and the table under the TV began. I kept imaging myself walkimg into the wall, especially half asleep. I will say that everything looked clean and modern and both the sheets and mattress were very comfortable. While the room had enough space for 1, I think it would have been cramped for a couple.

My parents came out to join me at the end of the trip and stayed in a larger room. Their room was similarly furnished with one important difference - there was a glass enclosed tub/shower in the middle of the room and no, it was not frosted glass. I would have felt like an exhibitionist, although my parents said that the glass fogged over when in use, so it wasn't much of an issue for them. It did strike all of us as a little odd though.

When a couple of issues came up (thermostat not working) they were handled quickly and courteously.

The rooftop lounge and pool were very nice. You could see the baseball games on the big screen in the stadium. I would recommend bringing your own beverages - a thimbleful of Bailey's cost $12.

Noise from the club was not an issue for me, but my parents heard it in their room.

Nice hotel if your young and want to go clubbing. Probably a little too much for me.

My stay here was very underwhelming, especially for the price. My boyfriend got us a room here for New Years 2012. The packages for New Years started at $500 and he booked us a King room. We checked in around 4:30pm on NYE.

My first immpression was that the lobby was beautiful. Almost immediately we noticed that the service was off. First, the guy checking us in asked if we wanted a room that faced the street or the inside of the hotel. We requested a street facing room. After 5 minutes, he told us that our King room wasnt ready but that he'd "upgraded" us to a Queen outward facing room...? He also told us that, as a consolation, complimentatry champagne would be waiting for us in the room. At the time I didnt realize that the champagne wasnt complimentary, it was apart of the package my boyfriend paid for. At any rate, the champagne was not waiting for us. We had to call downstairs to twice to get it 3 hours later.

I ordered a chicken entree and a burger from room service. Once the food got there, we saw that only the chicken had been brought up. The waiter apologized and said he hadn't gotten an order for a burger. To his credit, he brought up the burger maybe 10 minutes after this happened.

The next day when we were checking out, we observed a guest complaining that he hadnt gotten his champagne at all the night before and the staff helping him shrugged and said "Next time"...I guess we weren't the only ones.

As we walked out the door to the valet, one of the doorman held the door for me and then closed it in my boyfriend's face. Then the valet pulled his car to the front, but neglected to give us the car keys. From the beginning to the end, it seemed like the hotel staff didnt really care.

I gave the hotel two stars because the room was nice, even though our cable reception kept getting messed up every 20 or so minutes with bars across the screen. Also, the food we ordered from room service was excellent. But for the cost, I'm sure there were better places we couldve stayed.

If i had the money, I'd stay here all the time.

I got alot to great service even before I arrived to the hotel. They answered all of my questions, prepared my room with extra pillows and blankets, and let me know of cheaper over night parking (7th and E, 10 dollars overnight!)

Had a great stay here. My host Vlad helped me out alot with getting wristbands to the club, directing me to where I had to go, he was great!

The extra large loft was amazing and beautiful, so happy I got such a spacious room. The design was great and super pretty!
They also came with a good amount of complimentary drinks and snacks. Of course the things you had to pay for were expensive (Alcoholic Drinks, nuts, sex toys) but I mean, not too necessary haha.

The rooftop lounge was beautiful! Drinks are pricey, but with the luxury of the hotel, its expected.

The concierge helped me out with so many random questions, I loved it. I asked where the closest grocery store is and they offered to take me in their Escalade car service, they gave me a really great waffle at 2:30 am, they let me know of a pizza place that delivers at 3 in the morning..what great service!

Definitely a great place to have your 21st birthday at :)

    Legit Modern Hotel!
    Cons:
Valet only: annoying and expensive $35 a night
The area right outside the hotel is kinda rundown and ghetto. The views from the 5th floor are horrible.

    Pros:
Everything is super modern. They don't even have a front desk, employees walk around with iPads and headsets.
The guest rooms have exposed showers.
The bathrooms are sleek and really clean!

I love this Andaz hotel...tres avant garde...dazzling you with it's sleek, sexy modern motif. Check-in & out is always a breeze mirroring the trendy non-queue "Apple" model.  Friendly, professional and attentive service. Comfy bed, linens and pillows.

The Ivy Rooftop Bar magnetizes you with it's exotic cosmopolitan ambience while tantalizing you with Prada runway music and engaging you with the beautiful panoramic views of San Diego.

I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in San Diego!

If you're looking for a sleek and sexy room and experience this is the place!  Located in downtown San Diego right in Gaslamp this is the perfect location.  The rooms were a tad small but the modern decor and exposed shower was a nice touch.  It was pretty busy on Friday and Saturday night as the clubs there are extremely popular.  The rooftop was sweeeet!  Lots of good looking people doing their best to impress!  I took my wife here for an adult get away and it was the perfect place.  It was walking distance to Bars, Restaurants, Ball Park and Mall.  If we didn't want to leave the Hotel for anything we didn't really have to.

The guy monitoring the line for the club was kind of a douch.  Since we were staying there I had all access but when i had met up with a few friends he gave us a hard time.  Not saying i exactly blame him becasue it was super busy and he probably deals with a lot of idiots.

If you're traveling with kids this is probably not the place for you!  Very similar to Vegas...

I came here for an alumni association meeting in the Mezzanine room. The room was actually thru the Quarter Kitchen (restaurant) on the 2nd level. The hotel/meeting space was plush, modern, sleek and sexy. Me likes!!!

Loved the sultry ambiance and the employees were helpful and friendly.

This was a hosted event with appys and drinks.

    Appys included:
    -Chicken strips
    -Mini sliders
    -Crab appy
    -Caprese kabob

I didn't care so much for the chicken strips since it had an Indian spice to it. The remaining appys were pretty tasty. I have eaten at the Quarter Kitchen before and enjoyed it. So, eating in the establishment, I knew what I was in for.

The service was great and the staff came around to ensure we were doing well throughout the course of our meeting. Only downfall is that the bathrooms are by the lobby passed the elevators, which is a minor inconvenience if you're meeting in the Mezz.

Nice hotel, a lot of things I liked about it, but there was one thing that was strange.  I've stayed in a lot of hotels all over the world and I've never had a room that didn't have a clock.

Yes, there are 2 phones in the room and both of them have a panel that includes a time readout.  But they're not lit, they're not big and you definitely can't see them from across the room.

I woke up and wasn't sure if it was the middle of the night (i.e. 3 am) or nearly time to get up (6:30). No way to know without getting out of bed and trying to find my cell phone to tell me what time it was.

Other than that, really liked the hotel.  Loved having the Keurig machine in my room, the location is good, the service was very good and very friendly.

Amazing amazing amazing hotel! My husband and I reserved a queen size bed at a regular rate for our 2nd wedding anniversary.

When we got there the hotel concierge complimented us with a King Size bed with a view and champagne on arrival.

Also, included in our stay... VIP access to the nightclub, Wine Bar, Pool, and rooftop lounge.

All of the staff from the valet attendant, front desk, bartenders, to the security guards were so professional, friendly, attentive, and made sure that our stay was impeccable.

The hotel decor is posh, modern, elegant, and classy. We were impressed with ever facet of our stay and are already planning our 3rd anniversary here.

Not to mention the convenient location in the middle of everything in Gaslamp.

Wow! All the staff will be getting thank you cards from me!

I have stayed at the Andaz twice now for my birthday and I have nothing but great things to say about this hotel. The Queen Suite has an amazing glass shower in the middle of the room, definitely worth the money! It is a beautiful hotel and the staff has always been exceptionally nice to me. The conceirge named Spencer is really helpful and very nice! The Ivy club located in this hotel is very fun and the rooftop pool/view is stunning. Definitely a great place to stay with some friends for a fun night out in downtown San Diego!

Andaz San Diego is-in one word- SEXY.

This will probably be THE most glowing review I have shared thus far. I already fell in love with Andaz with Wall Street, though, the vibe at ASD is completely different. Wall St is eclectic, modern, and innovative. San Diego is just SEXY.

Plain and simple, this hotel is a hands-down ,amazing destination for lovers. Everything from the ambiance to amenities showcases that this is the place to be. Really, who cares that it is located in the heart of Gaslamp---you won't ever have to (or want to) leave the hotel, or your room for that matter.

True to Andaz style, as soon as I arrived, the service was top-notch and so inviting. The lobby was spacious and hip, and you could see happy hour starting at the wine bar too. Along that note, M-F, 5-8pm, wine tasting 5 for $5.

SUPER HAPPY to be Diamond with Hyatt--I had told a friend earlier in the week that I wanted this one room I saw online, and to my absolute delight, that's what they upgraded me to. The Executive King Suite is beautiful, gorgeous, and enticing. Upon entering the room, surround sound music was playing - Sade and Kings of Leon welcoming you in. *Sigh #1*

The king-sized bed with wooden canopy and  oversized pillows bordered by  double-sconce//dimmed lighting- *Sigh #2*

Overlooking that bed is the couples shower- one waterfall faucet, another angled, two adjustments, perfect temperature- who needs a tub when you can stand....if you know what I mean. *Sigh #3*

    Seven mirrors *Sigh #4*

Full bar down to the grey goose and jack daniels, wine bottles. "Booty parlor intimacy kits" (translation sex toys and other things to keep you and your partner entertained all hours of the night). Speaking of 24  hours, delectable menu for when your appetite has been....earned. *Sigh #5*

Huge, fuzzy, cozy matching couples robes (even if you're too short like me, given the vibe of the room/hotel, it wont matter if its dragging on the ground for long anyway since it wont BE on very long either)!. *Sigh #6*

At first, I was kinda put-off that there was no spa.  Then I saw the rooftop pool, full bar, and lounge area with fire-pit that is so intimate and relaxing, the spa-less irritation is immediately erased. Cabana's, loveseats, not to mention the gorgeous view of downtown is simply enough. *Sigh #7*

And to top it all off, as usual, the most crucial part of any hotel stay for me is cleanliness. Not one hair anywhere, not one smudge, or water stain on counters. I cannot speak anymore highly of any hotel in recent memory.

Andaz SD is the pure illustration of sexiness, sultriness, and serenity.
I won't be staying ANYWHERE else next time I'm in the area.

    SEXY. SEXY. SEXY. *Sigh #8*

Plus: great location, friendly staff, good in-dining food, rooftop view.
Minus: 1.Friday-Saturday nightclub and noise can be heard in the rooms not only from the music but from the drunk patrons. The clubs goes on until 1:30 am. We wish we knew this way in advance. 2. Small interior rooms with little to no sunlight. No dresser, safe or extra chair in room even when specified 2 adults. The safe had to be installed, dresser brought up as well as the chair. 3. Pool and sunbeds/lounges are very in limited supply compared to size of the rooftop. Wish they had more of each.

Sorry Hilton, Hyatt, and Hard Rock.  There's no CAKE left for you, because Andaz takes it all.

Customer service here greets you like you're a rockstar AND a cowboy (yes it's possible, they called him John Wayne).  They are so smooth and smiley here, it's as if they know every customer is a yelper - mucho respecto.

When you walk up, the doors will open for you - it's great to see an old tradition alive again.  Once inside, it's back to the future.  The personnel will work your reservation not from behind a desk, but from an Ipad right where YOU are standing.  If you need to feel more regal, they will offer you free bottled drinks during check-in.  (TIP:  Snapple Sweet Tea mixes great with Bourbon...she'll never even know.)

After that, the elevator doors opened without touching a button.  That was some crazy Lance Burton mind melt trick (or just karmic coincidence?), but either way, it stole the show.  It's always the little things that turn into yelp things.

The hallways, lighting, and rooms all work together like 2112 at a Rush Concert.   And yes, the showers are like a fishbowl where you're the fish.  But I'm totally okay sharing my shower with Jack Daniels while watching NFL Playoffs on the flat screen through the condensation - you just have to wipe the glass on every third down.

If you get the chance, also check out the ICE closet on your floor.  No dumb, loud, ice machines banging around louder than the honeymoon suite - here they have the ice pre-bagged for you to very conveniently take back to your room and drink your liver to death.

And finally, if you're a 20-"someone", you will love the rooftop bar night scene and downstairs club access that comes with the place.  If you're a bit older and feel like a creepy college professor on the dance floor, then there's a first floor wine bar to drink your regrets away.  In the morning, don't miss breakfast by the pool, where time will pass so wonderfully you'll forget to check-out.  Can be a bit awkward.

Phive Phat Stars for Andaz.  It's a promising Phuture, when other hotels Phigure it out like you guys did.  Phor Sure.
