Boyfriend found Anda Piroshki on Yelp and we HAD to try since we heard it was comparable to Seattle's Piroshki Piroshki.....and you know what?  The beef and cheese piroshki DOES come very very close minus all the grease!  So you know what that makes Anda?  EVEN BETTER!

Looooooved the rich taste of ground beef melted in all the cheese and minced greens.  Rather than fried, her piroshki is baked and the holder isn't drenched in grease by the time you finish the entire bun.  For $4.50 it's a good snack but if you want to be filled aka treat this piroshki as a meal, you probably need to order at least another one.

We also ordered the spinach and mushroom piroshki and it was EXCELLENT, but not better than the beef/cheese if you only had to choose one.  We actually went to visit ON St. Patrick's Day and she had a special piroshki with a four leaf clover decorated on the top!  SO CUTE!

I honestly can't wait to go back.

    Many firsts this weekend.

1st time in Bernal Heights which I found to be a delightful little neighborhood.
1st time at Anda Piroshki and certainly not my last
1st time having a piroshki away from Seattle's Piroshki Piroshki that I liked
1st time using the Stampt app on iphone and I'm already 3/8 closer to getting a free piroshki from Anda

At first we ordered a beef/cheese and spinach/mushroom. After eating them on our self-guided tour of the neighborhood, we circled back to grab another beef/cheese. The piroshkis, although slightly pricy for the size and also not nearly enough for a meal, were a real treat. Plus, they are baked instead of fried, which your arteries will thank you for later.

Beware, there is no seating in the incubator that houses Anda, it's take-out only.

My first time eating a piroshki and I immediately became hooked.

A piroshki is a baked or fried dough pastry that has some sort of filling (i.e. meat, cheese, or potato, etc.). At Anda Piroshki's she tries to make these little dough pastries as healthy as possible by BAKING it. YUM.

    I ordered:
    1. The potato and onion piroshki: I was not too impressed by this one. It did not have as much filling inside the pastry and the onion was too overpowering. I wish it had more herbs and spices to it.
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

    2. The beef and cheese piroshki: DELICIOUS! I could not get enough of it. The pastry was packed with beef and cheese and the meat was tender and plentiful. I loved how perfectly the cheese was melted inside. Next time I come here, I am going to order a bunch of the beef and cheese piroshkis.
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

*Cash only. It runs about $3 per piroshki, if I remember correctly.

The borscht is fantastic!  The owner is very nice and engaging.

A bowl is a good sized serving.  I usually take home a large container so that I can enjoy it day after day.

This was my first time in Bernal Heights and Anda Piroshki was a great ambassador for this neighborhood. The "store" is basically a stall within a building. We tried five different types of piroskhi. Although the chicken and potatoes/onions was pretty bland I can't say enough about how delicious the meat/onion, meat/cheese and salmon/dill were. The piroshkis appeared to baked or perhaps warmed in an oven, whatever the case they certainly seemed a lot less oily than the ones I tried at Cinderella. It gave the dough a different flavor and texture which wasn't a negative by any means. Anda is definitely worth a stop if you happen to be in the area.

To preface, I've always preferred fried piroshkis.

Even still, a baked piroshki with flaky, buttery crust has a charm all its own.

At this place its simply a bland, soft, dough. You can do better.

All piroshki noobies would do well to try Cinderella (or Moscow-Tblisi if you're a grease hedonist).

I'd heard about Seattle's Piroshki Piroshki on some food program a while back and was intrigued.  I must thank the other reviewers for indirectly hinting to me that its not worth the trip.

Gee.. What to say about Anda Piroshki?

Short version - 5 stars. Now go eat there.

Long version - I was introduced to piroshkis in the early 80's at the legendary House of Piroshki on 9th Avenue in the Inner Sunset while I was going to school in San Francisco. For those of you who missed it, it was that good. You can still find people lamenting the House's passing on the Internet.

I have had a lot of piroshkis in a lot of cities since then, searching for something that comes even close. I have come to believe what someone said, that the perfect piroshki is the one your grandmother made. In my case, that translates to the House of Piroshki's, moderately thick but light and and well seasoned crust, tasty meat and cheese or vegetable and mushroom filling, fresh enough to be warm without microwaving.

Simple, right? Well go find one if you can and post about it back here.

This last weekend while back in San Francisco for a meeting, I searched the Internet to see what the current offerings were. I found Anda listed on several sites, with surprisingly good reviews. I had to give it a try.

I called ahead. Yes, they would be open. Yes, they had meat and cheese on hand. Could they hold some for me? Thanks, but no, I'm not that far away. I'll be there in a few.

It wasn't hard to get to Bernal Heights by Muni, and I loved the neighborhood. I found the tiny shop in a coop, itself a model of modern efficiency that is going to be the survival of many small business owners.

Arghhhh!!! Except for one chicken, sold out! Anna, the owner, sadly said that some customers had arrived without warning and otherwise cleaned her out. She said she made her piroshkis fresh every morning, and tried her best to judge how many she would need. She gave me her card, and said I could try again tomorrow.

I told her I was from Alaska and wouldn't be back for quite some time.  Oh, well! My bad.

Amazingly, with about 45 minutes to closing, Anna offered to cook me a special batch! How cool is that? I had a beer down the street, and came back a half hour later to find her arranging my piroshkis in a box.  They were delicious.

Anna chooses to bake her piroshkis, which she feels is a bit healthier than fried if you eat a lot of them. The crust was soft and flavorful, with none of the blandness often found in baked piroshkis. The filling was excellent, whether the perfectly seasoned meat and cheese, or the flavorful spinach and mushroom, which really should be called, garlic, spinach, and mushroom. I'll have to ask the kids how the potato and onion or chicken were. I was to full to try them.

I enjoyed that meal sitting in the window seat at the shop as much as any I have enjoyed any meal in a long time.

I am truly glad to have found a contender for the best of one of my favorite foods ever. I think the owners of House of Piroshki would be pleased to pass the mantle on to Anda, and Anna, as she seems to offer the same quality and value they did. In her sharing with her community and in her own way something small and good and memorable, she is sharing in the spirit that makes San Francisco my favorite city.  Thank you.

Anna had better think of how to expand. As word spreads she is going to become very, very busy.

I ate piroshkis for lunch all the time as a kid, but they weren't exactly gourmet (think frozen from Safeway).  I still have a soft spot for piroshkis, and I was just thinking about how I hadn't eaten a piroshki in years.  Cue my discovery of Anda Pirsohki.

I have tried all the savory pirsohkis on the menu, and they are all absolutely delicious!  Each pirsohki is moist and flavorful.  I am not a vegetarian, but my favorite is the mushroom and spinach piroshki which is packed with a lot of flavor.  The pastry is baked to a perfect consistency every time, and I want to know what their secret is.

Make sure to get the Stampt app on your phone so that you can get a stamp every time you buy a piroshki.  Buy 8, get 1 free.

Anda Piroshki is super affordable and super delicious. I first had their piroshki at the street food festival on Folsom, where they had people lined up around the freaking block. And not without reason: it's meat/potatoes/onions/magic baked into a little bread pocket. Pure Russian comfort food, and SO good. They must call it Anda Piroshki because when you finish your first one, they'll ask, "Is that all? Just one piroshki?" and you will say, "Yes. And a piroshki!" They're filling, but you will want seventeen of them because they are That. Freaking. Delicious. I want one right now. YUM.

Mmm, a pre-brunch snack. The Alemany Food Market wasn't held over NYE weekend....no, I don't understand how that matches with their statement of being held every Saturday, nor did the dozens of people who drove by me for the 10 minutes while I searched in vain for another farmer's market on Saturday outside the Ferry Building. So on the way to brunch, I thought we should see what's doing briefly at 331 Cortland.

Ok, to the matter at hand: piroshkis. They look, and taste, hearty but not too rich since they're baked. Clearly I really enjoyed them. The Mushroom & Spinach was very flavorful; the onions and garlic inside were quite tasty but not overpowering. Overall it was a good snack for $3.75, and fairly filling for a vegetarian option.

But if you know me, you know I couldn't stop at just one, especially since I had to share them. Decided to pass on the Egg & Green Onions since eggs were in our immediate future for brunch, so a $4 Beef & Onion was the next choice. Same overall theme of a warm, hearty snack that would always be welcome.

In fact I've hungrily eaten meat pies from a variety of other cultures: Cornish pasties, Latin American empanadas, Indian samosas, a Natchitoches meat pie, an Irish meat pie with Guinness, and a Quebecois tourtiere. As you might guess, a Russian piroshki isn't as spicy by nature, but it isn't nearly as heavy as some of the others. Also, the outside bread is neither dry nor greasy - it's just right.

I'll be back for the BORSCHT!

Stopped in at the Cortland shop today and ordered the Borscht and a beef onion piroshki. I've had borscht before but never as flavorful and filling as this one. Sometimes you just want soup and you usually don't think of borscht. It was chunky and very satisfying. You have to try this stuff. It is the best in SF. I also loved the flavor of the beef onion piroshki.

Cool little co-op right inside 331 Cortland.

The 20-something? Russian gal who bakes the piroshkis reminds me of a babushka doll. Definitely easier on the eyes than the old lunch ladies from elementary school who last served me a piroshki.

The piroshkis are about $4 each, snack size, and pre made in a warmer.

Baked not fried these aren't as oily and flavorful like the ones I grew up with. The fillings were skimpy, I opened up my mushroom and onion and it had a big ol piece of dough as a filler. (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)

The beef and mushroom had nice flavor. So does a hot pocket for a quarter of the price.

I could eat $20 worth of piroshkis and still be hungry. Good for a snack, not for lunch.

    Baked not deep-fried!

    My Russian connections:
    1. My cousins are 1/4 Russian and 3/4 Japanese but they look 100% Russian.
    2. One of my uncles was a space scientist, who was 50% invited and 50% abducted by Soviet Union. That's what my mom says but I wonder if there is such a circumstance.
    3. I started learning Russian when I was 26 years old but as soon as I saw their alphabets, I gave that up. My Russian study lasted for 3 minutes.
    4. My favorite lunch menu at my elementary school was actually Piroshkis!

When I had 3 kinds of Piroshkis at Anda Piroshki, I was taken back to my happy childhood right away. It may be strange to you since I am not Russian but having lived in a country geographically close to Russia, I used to have Piroshkis a lot.

Most of the Piroshkis in Japan are deep-fried but 'Baked Piroshkis' are more popular in Russia.

The owner chef, Anna makes 50 to 100 of them every day. Currently, she is the only cook and she makes and bakes them in a small space at 331 Cortland Street.

Mushroom & Spinach ($3.75) ...Button mushrooms, spinach, grilled onion, garlic and parsley. I was surprised to see the generous portion of stuffing. The bread part is thinner than I expected. The earthy flavor was good. Good vegetarian option.

Beef & Onion ($4.00) ... 85% lean beef, grilled onion, California rice, garlic, Dill.
I love this one since the flavor was closed to what I had in my childhood. Amazingly generous portion!

Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese ($4.50) ...It was delicious! You know the combination of smoked salmon and cream cheese is hard to mess up but still it was delicious. It matched with the crust of the Piroshki very well. I will have 2 of them next time.

Here are the reasons why Anda Piroshki gets 5 stars.

    1. Her place is the only Piroshki-only place in San Francisco.
    2. Her baked Piroshkis are delicious and healthier.
    3. She is from Moscow so they are authentic. The family recipe is really cool.
    4. She is very friendly and I can see that she is enjoying what she is doing.
    5. She has a big sharp knife. I don't want to make her mad.

Anna says, "Saturdays are the busiest." So I would avoid going there on Saturday. When I was there on Sunday afternoon, there was no line but still she had customers constantly.

Thank you very much for patiently cutting our Piroshkis in half  although you were busy, Anna. Thanks to you, I enjoyed your Piroshkis with my friend without making a mess. I hope you will find someone to help your business soon so that at least you can take a break. I would be happy to volunteer for you if you can feed one Piroshki to me every hour.

People should get some Piroshkis from Anna and climb to the top of Bernal Heights Park nearby. You can see the spectacular view of the city and when you bite it, you will get to the heaven!

Lastly, I thank Russia for opening the air space for international flights. During Soviet Union era, I had to fly from Tokyo to Anchorage, then Anchorage to Paris for butt-hurting long 24 hours! Now it takes only 12 hours. Thank you!

    Love, love, LOOOVVEEEE!

I like the cute little business center, the cute business cards, and the cute woman at the counter. While I marveled at the menu and stared intently at the display case of yummy piroshkis, my friend asked the woman for a trash can to spit out her gum. The woman then turned around and brought back one of those Russian dolls (those dolls within a doll within a doll). She started taking it apart, and my friend stared at her a little confused. She then said, "you wanted to see a matryoshka doll?" And my friend laughed and said she needed a trashcan for her gum.

I don't know why this was so amusing to me, but it made me smile on the inside and outside. I love different cultures :]

Anyways, my three friends and I bought 4 different piroshkis to share-- the mushroom onion, the salmon and cream cheese, the chicken and vegetables, and the beef and onion. I can't say anything about the mushroom piroshki (I hate mushrooms with a bloody passion, BLEH), but the smoked salmon & cream cheese piroshki was heaven in my mouth (and more). It exploded with yummy, salmony flavor, and simply melted in my mouth. I loved it and wanted more! The chicken and vegetables resembled a Chinese dumpling, which I found quite interesting. The beef and onion also tasted of dimsum.

Anyways, the salmon is a must try. After being teased with the yummy yummy taste of Piroshky Piroshky in Seattle, I've been dying to find an alternative closer to home. This certainly hits the spot!

We tried the beef piroshki at the Food Festival.  The piroshki is baked, and looks more like a round bun.  Reminds me of a Chinese BBQ pork bun.
The meat filling was tucked into the middle, not sealed inside.  We thought it was good, but niecey prefers the unhealthy, fried piroshkis.  So, this didn't "raise her skirt" as she would put it.

You no longer have to wait till Sunday for good piroshky. Anda has moved into 331 Cortland. I spotted 6 different kinds of baked piroshky, including mushroom, beef & grilled onion and more ($4 each). The proprietor, a young Russian woman, was inspired by Seattle's Piroshky Piroshky. Her piroshky are smaller and more delicate.

    * Egg & spring onion ($4): Chopped egg salad with lots of finely diced spring onions and black pepper, this piroshky was fresh and lovely tasting, but not as flavorful as other piroshky that I've had from Anda. The exterior is missing the sprinkle of herbs on top. The piroshky is small for $4.
    * Borscht ($4): delicious peppery, beef broth soup with plenty of fresh veggies (veggies, onion, potato, carrot), tasted even better with a bit of sour cream, it's a small cup

They didn't seem right out of the oven like the ones that I used to get on Sunday at Sea Breeze but they're still excellent and fresh (but too small for $4).

    Cash only I think

My mom was in General Hospital, and she was craving piroshki. So I went on Yelp and found closest place, which is Anda Piroshki. My expectations wasn't high, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Such a nice and cute little shop. The girl who helped me was SUPER nice, and she sure made me feel very good! Her name is Anna ( Anya), and she makes the best piroshki. I never saw such a sweet young lady in any  of the Russian stores! Will come back for sure!!!!!

Before I get into details, the following statement tells you what you need to know.  I traveled 100 miles round trip to try these piroshki based on Yelp reviews and it was worth it!  I plan on doing so again and again.

This shop is in a funky little shared space with 5 other businesses.  Once you realize how wonderful these piroshki are, you'll probably want to order them by the dozen.  If so, call ahead a day or so.

Anna Tvelova is the owner and creator of these masterpieces.  If you stop by at the right time, you can see her put the piroshki together and prepare them for baking, which she does right on the spot.  Anna is charming and lots of fun to talk with about her love of cooking Russian food

In the 1970s and early 1980s, there was a shop in the Inner Sunset called House of Piroshki. They made piroshki that caused addiction.  Since they closed in the 80s, I have searched in vain for any piroshki that would be even close to those delights.  Search on Chowhound and you'll find a thread or two with many like-minded heretofore hapless devils.  I found a few piroshki over that span of time that were ok but not anywhere near special, hard to understand in an area with such a large Russian population extending into the East Bay and South Bay.

Yesterday, my search joyfully ended.  Anda Piroshki are easily the equal to House of Piroshki for the best piroshki I've ever had.  They're probably better in many ways.  They're baked and each bite causes moans of ecstasy.  They're pretty to look at, which hints at what awaits within.  The dough is flavorful and has a very nice texture, spongy on the inside and crisp on the outside.  The fillings are outstanding, with the only drawback being that it's hard to decide which are your favorites.  My favorite is whichever one I'm eating at the time.

If you want vegetarian, Potato and Cheese or Mushroom and Spinach are very hearty and bursting with flavor.  The Chicken and Beef varieties are equally satisfying.   They're all outstanding.

However, the one you absolutely must try is Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese.  Yes, you read that correctly.  I've occasionally (actually, rarely) had them as turnovers.  These are almost unbelievably good.  They should be eaten warm for best effect.  If you're a smoked salmon and cream cheese on a bagel lover, try these and you may decide you like these better.

If you've read this far, here's your assignment.  Go to Anda Piroshki and get blissfully addicted on the spot (one of the merchants that shares her space makes Egg Creams so you can get that as an accompanying beverage).  It won't take more than one taste to get you set up to Jones for these piroshki.

After you realize that you're hopelessly hooked, there is only one thing to do.  Post your own review on Yelp and tell everyone you know, emphasizing that it is worth the trip if distance is an issue (I drove from Mountain View, as an example).

It is important that Anna's business thrives and even expands.  Anda Piroshki is a very rare example of filling a long-vacant void in the culinary world of the Bay Area.  May she make these superb treats for many years and become the standard by which all others are judged.

Since the time I wrote this review, I have returned and found a new reason to come back again and again.  Russolnik is, I think, the name of a superb barley soup Anna makes.  If I have the name incorrect, just ask for the barley soup.  I am a very good cook.  I make very good soup.  Typically, I would make an effort to replicate anything really good I have in a restaurant.  I don't want to try to do a version of this; it's so incredibly good, I just want to be able to buy it here and take it home.  A great soup is one of the pleasures of life and this is great soup.

I was finally reunited with my homemade piroshki supplier/college roommate today and knew, once she mentioned it to me, that we had to try this place. It's housed in a cute space shared by a few vendors and it was welcoming and not crowded when we went around noon on a Sunday. The egg and onion one was alright but the smoked salmon and cream cheese one was fantastic! The dough is insanely tasty and the owner was very gracious. I'll def pickup another one next time I'm in the area.

This place just opened up today, May 25 2011 at 1:00 PM.  She was already nearly out when I arrived.  I snagged the last two for a while, until more are ready.  Sorry.  They are $4 each.

I used to eat piroshki all the time, but they usually came in plastic bags and had to be microwaved.  These are fresh baked right out of the oven.  The dough is good and hearty, with just enough sponginess.  Filled all the way with beef and cheese, it's a great meal, but you can easily have two.  They are much better than any piroshki I remember.

Today, Anda only had Beef and Cheese, but will have Cheese and Potato with onion, and a vegan kind a bit later on.  The lady behind the counter was very sweet and seems to be really happy to be in this store.

I will be back often to try them all!

Oh dear. Just another little place that I really *should* avoid.

I can't remember how I stumbled on this place on Yelp, but I did. It sat in my bookmarks for a few month. As I was trying to think of a new breakfast item to try on my day free of restricted calories, we headed to Bernal Heights. We tried all 4 available piroshki. They were perfectly done, and even tasted surprisingly simple and healthy.

The potato, beef with onion, beef with cheese and mushroom spinach. The potato was by far my favorite, but I would definitely eat all 4 flavors again. Sigh.

I was getting my nails done a few doors down and was starting to get really hungry. I walked up and down Cortland seeing what my options were and saw a sign saying Anda Piroshki. I remember reading about her piroshikis on yelp a few months back but she didn't have a store front. Well now she does. Well its not really a store but sort of like a station. Its a store that has about 5 different stations inside selling things from spices to sandwiches to knives. Pretty rad right?

I was pretty happy to know that she still had the ones I wanted to try especially it being around 3 o clock. I really thought she would be sold out by then. I got the Mushroom and Spinach, Mushroom and Chicken and the Salmon and Cream Cheese one. These aren't like your typical piroshkis that taste similar to hot pockets. Neither are these the ones that need to be wrapped in an inch thick of napkins cuz of the seeping grease. (Although they still are good) These piroshikis are definitely baked to perfection. They sort of remind me of empanadas minus the flaky texture. Probably because some of them were shaped like one.

I took a bite of the mushroom and spinach one. (By the way, 2 of my FAVORITE vegetables!) And oh my god... SPEECHLESS. It was so freaking good. You can definitely taste the mushroom and spinach. And it was packed with filling. Lots of mushroom pieces and yummy creamy spinach. And it wasn't even oily @ all. The mushroom and chicken was also yummy but I really think the mushroom and spinach stole the spotlight for me. I haven't tried the salmon and cream cheese one just yet cuz I was saving it for lunch tomorrow but I'm tempted to eat it right now as I'm typing this review. : ) I will update and let you guys know!

Minus one star because I do think they are a bit pricey at $3.75 to 4.25 a piece and aren't as big as the typical piroshki's that I usually get but I really can't complain because they are really that good and are quality baked.

I can tell the owner puts a lot of effort and love into her food which I can truly admire. I really think I'm going to stock up and probably a dozen and stick them in the freezer : )

Thanks to a fellow Yelper, Manabu M. for his review that I had to trek up Bernal Hgts. for Anda Piroshki!! They were what I have been looking for in a non- fried, non- greasy Piroshki. As they are baked and are from a genuine Russian recipe from this wonderful owner. The classic beef and onions had lean beef, onions, rice and a hint of garlic & dill. I also had the chicken & mushroom and the mushroom & spinach Piroshki, all deserving top 5 stars rating for freshness and taste. Highly recommend!!

Chicken mushroom is delicious! The bread is fluffy and one is enough to make a meal.  Anda is the perfect fit for a tasty meal on a shoe-string budget.

Workers are a little grumpy but piroshkis are solid.  The beef/onion piroshki tasted like a beef stroganoff in a half moon puff pastry, possibly marketable by Hot Pocket.  I could literally eat this savory piece of heaven for breakfast every morning.  I'm a savory girl at heart so move out of the way waffles and fruit, it's all about piroshkis.

Like many Russian dishes, this has a noticeable amount of dill in it.  And even hating dill so much didn't matter to me because this was SO GOOD.  Perhaps dill is not as much of an enemy as I had thought or maybe this little item is actually converting me.  The pastry was less on the flakey side as it was more soft and chewy.

Other piroshkis included chickeh/mushrooms and feta/spinach.  If they had a storefront (hint, hint), I would make frequent take-out orders to impress everyone and then keep the secret completely to myself.

I love those Piroshkis! I was helping Anna a little bit on SF Food Festival and noticed how much love she puts in every single one. Her piroshkis are superhealthy. I loved those chicken ones since i work out a lot and NEED MY PROTEIN IN A TASTY AND CONVENIENT WAY. Apple piroshkis are great,, i was amused by the fact that Anna doesn't add any sugar to the filling, they are naturally sweet with apples, cranberries and almonds. Thumbs up!
I almost don't eat baked stuff but here... I can allow myself TWO - so healthy and low-calorie they are! 5 stars for healthy satisfaction of my cravings!

    Delicious, Fresh, and healthful.

You gotta try this. It's like California meets Russia and the outcome is something really good.

I tried the vegetarian version and the meat version and loved both.

Oakland Eat Real Festival 2010 [Stop #12]
    Chicken & Mushroom Pirozhok - $3
    Beef & Grilled Onion Pirozhok - $3

At the end of my trials and tribulations through the Oakland Eat Real Festival, I stumbled upon Aida Piroshki. I have no idea how I missed them when I first walked by, but I'm really glad. At first, I was kind of hesitant. It's not every day that you see a Russian owned company at such a food festival. Usually they keep to themselves with their own store, but this place is different.

I first tried the Chicken & Mushroom pirozhok, which reminded me of my childhood with the first bite. My mom used to (and still does) make very similar piroshki from time to time, and I used to devour them in minutes. The dough is perfectly baked with that soft buttery coating that just melts in your mouth. The inside is all very well flavored with just the right kinds of spices.

After the first pirozhok, I had to go back and find out more about Aida. I had a nice long conversation with them in Russian, and apparently they're fairly new (hence the new Yelp reviews). I told the owner how much I loved their piroshki and how it reminded me of home. I finally understood why they tasted so good after she told me that they're all made from the heart. I had to try their beef & grilled onion pirozhok before leaving, which was just as amazing as the first one.

If only they had a pirozhok with lamb & grilled onions, I would be their biggest customer. Also, if they had a storefront, I would be BARTing over to SF every weekend for some good home style piroshki.

Thank you, Aida, for bringing the taste of home to my taste buds.

Definitely baked and not fried. They were super delicious right out of the oven at the Street Food Festival. Warm, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The filling was delicious and full of flavor.

The best piroshkis I've tasted have been from Kaleenka in Seattle and every subsequent piroshky has drawn an immediate comparison.

Ordered the beef and onion, as it was noted by the owner to be the most-authentic and popular.  The filling was every bit as good as my memories of Kaleenka - juicy ground beef deliciously spiced and generously portioned.  The bread was fresh and not oily at all, though slightly doughier and thicker than I would have preferred.  Still they were light enough that I could have easily stuffed away three of them had I not already eaten breakfast.

I just happened to be looking for a resturaunt in the area for lunch, and found this place. The egg and green onion was amazing. Reminded me kind of like a chinese bun. So much flavor, soft bread, not dry or too oily, since it's baked. I asked if they do prebake ones and she's definitely thinking about it. Can't wait! So I can share, of course.

i love piroshki, i really do, and i travel to the great north bay, i go to every possible liquor store and get those fast ones on the greasy brown napkin.

    NO MORE!

baked perfection, my tribe and i had potato and cheese; beef and cheese; and kale and mushroom. absolutely fantastic.

the shop is like a station within a building of about 4 or 5 stations, and clean, clean, clean.

piroshkis were straight from the oven, and a deal at $4 each. i wish i could hit the shop again before i head home.

anda piiroshki, you are worth the 400 mile journey from los angeles. awesome.

After the House of Piroshki on 9th ave closed many years ago I haven't come across Piroshkis that I like until my daughter suggested trying Anda's which I did; my favorite being beef and cheese while my daughter is spinach.

The beef and cheese was delectable; low fat content (maybe  85-15%)on the beef but enought fat to give terrific flavor, seasoning to give personality without being dominant; the cheese was mixed into the beef so it didn't lump to one side; having it baked greatly reduces not only the calories but the greasy mouth feel that comes with deep frying. Lastly, Anda's piroshki skills are not only evident in the taste of her product but in presentation as well. Each flavor is defined with a unique shape and finished with an egg wash that completely separates her piroshkis from the competition.

My daughter's comments on the spinach: Spinach piroshki was great, plenty of filling ....... .  I don't think of baked when I think of piroshki -so if you want grease, you won't find it w/these.  However, the baked piroshkis were good and I'd buy them again.
