Stopped in Amsterdam Cafe twice on a recent trip to Whistler and I love it!

It's a laid back, casual atmosphere that I really enjoyed. The music selection seems dependent on the waitress/bartender at the time but was good both nights and all the staff were super friendly.

Their food is really good however their prices are pretty standard inflated bar prices with the exception of their drink specials. The food was also really good and way more then we could eat!

Conflicted about this place, here's why.......

Nachos were excellent as they were epic as they were as big as Blackcomb mountain itself, very tasty, not burnt, and no broken pieces (I hate that)

Service was good enough, not stellar and not terrible as our waitress was there but was tentative in a kind of stand offish way which made me feel like I committed come kind of customer faux pas of sorts.

Location is awesome as the patio is right on the main drag in the village so it's great for people watching but the indoor seating area is loud and not much to see other than the serving staff in their skimpy attire.

The payment system is brutal as they have no interac (seeing that's how everyone pays) but they have their ATM conveniently there to take money out of at $2.50 for their service charge.

    the 'dam strikes again.

the guys love this place - for the mini skirts and the cleavage.  if you don't intend to skeeze on an attractive young waitress, you're probably better off spending your money elsewhere.

lack of better judgement found me at the 'dam this week, and i was reminded why i generally stay away (unless i'm already drunk and waiting for the line to die down at maxx fish).  once again, our server had more attitude than intellect, and preferred to flirt with guys than actually work.

My friend and I went to the bar on a Friday night and we each ordered drinks with some fries. I would recommend getting the garlic n' herb fries. The music was great (though a bit loud) and our server was extremely sweet. Based on this experience I would've given the place 5 stars.

We decided to come back to this place for brunch on Sunday and got a more sobering experience. After I handed the snotty waitress my ID she rolled her eyes and said, "I said two forms of ID." My friend from Korea also tried to present two pieces of ID and the waitress wouldn't accept one just because she couldn't read it. Well what do you expect from foreigners?

The food wasn't that great either. I ordered the margherita pizza which was half burnt and had hardly any tomato sauce or cheese on it. Just pieces of burnt tomato. I actually wanted to throw up a little after lunch.

Then at the end I asked the server if she could split our check. She said she won't be able to because it's the weekend so they're too busy. I paused to look around the restaurant and she said, "What? Is that a problem?" Well, half of the restaurant was EMPTY but the service was still slow and the waitress wouldn't stop whining about how busy it was. I recall the place was twice as packed when I came on Friday night and our waitress that night still split the bill for us and the service was much quicker. I think the server on Sunday was just being a lazy POS. Dropped my rating down from 5 to 3 stars because of the crappy service and bad food. Stand up and go sit in another section if you get someone named Darcey.

This place is ghetto. The wait staff are vulgar and uninterested, which seems to encourage dodgy behavior in the patrons. Food is standard overpriced "meh" pub stuff. I give them two stars because the outdoor patio is in a great location.

There are much better options around Whistler...

This was my first time here, and it was just for a quick drink.
My friend and I stopped in for a brunch time Caesar.
Service was fast and friendly. The patio was nice a shady with a a great view for people watching.
As for the drink, it was one of the best Caesar I've had. The fresh cracked pepper on top was a nice touch and the bartender had a good handle on what 'extra spicy' means.

Perhaps it was because i was incredibly hungry, but this place had an awesome veggie burger.  On the other hand, our service was lackluster to be generous.  The patio is cute, but not well kept.

Overall, my meal was quite good.

Let me be clear that the ONLY reason I'm giving this place two stars is for their delicious nachos - and that's being generous.

Poor service, loud atmosphere, LOTS of attitude from the tall blonde server (I know -  which one, right?) who snarked at our party when SHE repeated the order wrong twice. Rather than being a good server and killing us with kindness, she continued to be bitchy and not make eye contact or even offer a smile or apology for her crap service.

The nachos may be good, but the service is absolute crap. I won't be going back and will be telling others to not patronize this place.

Oh, and no Interac/debit - but a conveniently-placed ATM machine that I'm sure they make a ton of revenue off of.

We came to Amsterdam Pub only because we couldn't find a table at our first few choices of bars and we were starving.  The interior was a bit dark and dinghy, and tables were kinda crammed.  But the burger was pretty good and they had a bunch of $4.50 drink specials and draught beer was about the same price anyway. Our server, the bartender, was also really good about advising us on what we should and should not order (burgers are a yes, bitterballen appetizer is a no) and did not seem at all fazed that two of us wanted to share a burger.  She just happily brought us an extra plate and knife to cut the burger neatly in half.  I'm pretty sure I would be giving this place a 1 or 2-star review if not for her.  I'd say this place has it's own sort of grunge charm if you're not expecting anything high-end...or well, anything at all.  They also had Granville Island Brewery Winter Ale on tap - the best beer in the world.

Good crowds at night, not the typical Whistler 19-25, a little older, say 25-35 and good ambiance.  The waitresses bring in their iPods and shuffle music all night long, so you get a nice variety to chill out to.

They have nightly drinks specials, so I visited this place several times, every night just going with whatever they had on special - all good choices.  Decent menu with very good prices.  If you want high-end foodie quality, this is not the place for you.  Simple stuff, all made by minimum wage cooks in the back no doubt.

Place is pretty tiny - they could double their floor space and it would be full still.  I only sat inside, at the bar most nights.

The hot waitress girls definitely have an elitist "I'm hot and you want me" attitude, which for the most part is true - all the guys who come here make a play for them and fail.

Snowboarding boots barely unlaced and I find my self seeking out the heat lamps at Amsterdam cafe for a "Brown Bear" with Butter Ripple or a Guinness.
Located at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain gondola, Whistler Village just would not be the same without the Amsterdam cafe.
Can't say I have ever ordered food here, but the yam fries looked tasty.

Are you tired of the stupid 20 year old snow ho's who prance around in mini skirts and sleeveless shirts when it's 25 degrees outside and pretend like they're not freezing their asses off?  Well I was.

Anyhoo, this is why we loved the Amsterdam.  Great place for those of us who have already graduated from college.  Or at least don't act like dumbass college kids.  The crowd is a little older than those other "trendy" places, which was a refreshing change!  Drinks were reasonable (not cheap, buy hey, this is Whistler, after all) and the service absolutely wonderful, patient, and speedy.

    Favorite Whistler bar forevah!

Amsterdam is great for people watching and drinks. They play good music (I think the girls choose what they play) and the appetizers are acceptable as far as pub fare goes.

If you get on the good side of the servers and bartender they will treat you quite well-- and it's less annoying than Citta's across the plaza and no bouncer, that I've ever seen at least.

My only gripe is the truly horrible beer list. They have complete crap on tap with the exception of Guinness-- no microbrews, no big IPA's or anything even remotely interesting. I wish they would change that... but it's a common problem in Whistler bars.

At night, as a place to grab some drinks, hang out with friends, enjoy a lively crowd, listen to music, and drunkenly wander from place to place on your way back from the bathrooms because three different establishments all connect via a series of halls - four stars.  The bigger the crowds are, the better.

As a place to grab some food in the afternoon when you've spent a long morning on the slopes - 2 stars.  I fail to understand how you can mess up a personal pizza.  When your menu describes four toppings, I didn't realize that you meant one piece of each and that my otherwise all gooey dough and cheap cheese 14 buck disaster would have 4 slices without any toppings at all.  Second that for the "out of the can" spaghetti you served my companion.

Awesomeness after a long day.  Place was pretty full but the service was fast and the schnitzel was delish.  I heart gravy.  And I heart Canada because it seems like I got gravy on 75% of the dishes that I ordered while I was in the country.

The crowd that night seemed pretty cool.  As an added bonus, the place was decorated with pictures of cleavage.  What's not to love?

Loud, noisy, nothing special about this place.

the food is meh,  It's not horrible, but I wouldn't call it good either.

I feel that this would be a great place to go in the evening after skiing, unfortunately I was there for a late afternoon snack and I probably should have gone somewhere else.

Service was crap.  The waitress looked at us like we didn't belong and was slow serving our table and delivering drinks.  Not friendly.

Healthy? so-so.  I ordered soup, which was about the healthyist thing on the menu.  All the burgers come with fries, but you can upgrade to yam fries.

Great for people watching on the village stroll..

Decently priced food (for Whistler).  Their spaghetti was basic red sauce with meat, but it tasted good for the price.  Best seats are those right next to the stroll and you'll see plenty of people battling for those seats.  There is an inside, as well - but this is not the place to go to sit indoors (cramped and loud).  Service was OK (not terrible and not fabulous either).

If you're lucking enough to get a seat near the stroll, I'd give it a shot, otherwise I'd probably keep walking.

The place is ugly but the Onion soup is excellent :) . I decided to go there because I was looking for a beer and something to eat after a long snowshoe session under a heavy snow.

The service is good and the onion soup was very good, the decor is very bad (ugly) and doesn't match with the regula decor at traditional pubs but the place has something (music, people, mood, etc) that makes it a nice option. As othe reviewers said, try the special of the day because is good and less expensive than regular drinks.

Nice middle of the road place to hangout in the village.  Has good grunge music at a respectable volume, the beer is good and outside is cozy under the heat lamps.  The service is good and although I didn't have food, it looks like a good place for a snack.

This place has the best nachos I've ever tasted in my life.  It's real cheese and there is a lot of it and they melt it well.  The chicken is very tender and and fresh and the chips are greasy in a good way.  Plus this place is right in the center of the village and if you sit on the patio it's the best spot to people watch and see everything that's going on.  Service here was good.  The waitresses usually are friendly and will chat with you a bit.

You really have to sit outside here on the patio, if you don't want to be bothered by noise. It's a great place to be to sit, relax, have food, drinks, and people watch - right in the middle of Village Square. Just grab one of the booths - I think it's the best outside seating in that four corners area.

This is the place you go at the end of the fortnight when money's tight and you still want to get your drink on. $10 pitchers of their house brew is the best deal in Whistler when there isn't a Canucks game on. It's located right in Village Square and the heated patio offers great people watching. The only reason why it's a three star place is it's always infested by tourists. Par for the course in Whistler, but it seems especially so here. When you deal with 'gusts' all day, the last thing you want to do is relax with them. If you are one, on the other hand, it really doesn't matter and you'll probably like this place.

The drink selection is not bad but it is really the music, the ambience and the laid-back and cool "attitude" of this place that does it! Haven't tried the food as the Amsterdam just has that grotty look over it, that kind of says "great place for a pint or two, but not a place for great food".

The service however sucks. We were in there for twenty minutes while one of the bar maids was busy showing her tattoo off to some pierced, freakish looking dude she was obviously real keen on and the other two were busy talking to each other....

Still: It's one of the coolest places in Whistler, perhaps cause it has that genuine, European touch to it!?
