The tour guide was not only full of good humor and information about the area, but he had a love of the city and its history that was apparent in the enthusiasm and points of interest. It was touristy, but fun nonetheless.

I was a bit unsure about this tour for previous Yelp reviews and the semi-sketcky website. If it wasn't less than $32 each I would give a higher rating. Nothing like the Boston tour but worth it if you are looking for some Montreal history, trying to avoid the some of the costly museums, or just looking for something to do for a hour and half.
Tour Guide was fun and a Boston native. The tour was packed due to Memorial Day weekend. Tour was done in both French & English for everyone on board. I didn't cover as much land or city of Montreal like I was hoping but enough to make us realize that there isn't a lot of interesting sites to see in Montreal besides that mile ratios from the dock where we left. You could have seen everything if you just walked a couple of streets in the area but the narrated tours was a lot more enjoyable. Also, sometimes while in the water it felt like we were only going like 5 miles an hour which felt odd but made us get some cool city photos while on the water.
We did get "lectured" for not arriving 20 minutes prior to the departure time. We arrived10 prior to the departure time. There was nothing on the website that indicated that instruction and the woman on the phone didn't instruct us to arrive that early either while I was making the reservation. If that is something the company would like to enforce they then need to state it on the website and telling customers when they book. Yelling at a customer in front of your tour is not how we would have liked to started off the tour. However, that rough start was quickly forgotten once the tour started though. -

Total waste of time.
BTW - There is a coupon on the website for $7 off per adult if you do the 10AM tour.
This is the standard tour every city does now. Take you around in a bus and then go into the water with the bus.
I've done the same tour in Boston and Dublin.
The one in Boston is very well done, this was not.
They take you around and show you the sites. One problem is they have do it all in English and French and the guide did not speak French fluently so he had trouble with words so we missed a lot.
He also had no personality, and the personality is a big part of this type of tour. The guide does not drive the boat so you would think that they could find someone for this job that was fluent in both languages and had some sort of personality and could tell jokes as well as know the history.
The Boston and Dublin tours a full of jokes as well as information and the guide is also the driver, so there is no excuse for a guide only to be so lame.
As for the driver he was a maniac. Going through red light and stop signs. The best part of the tour was when he almost ran over a horse and buggy.
So after taking you around the old city they go into the water and show you the skyline. Nothing out of this world. In the end I think you would be better off getting the bus that takes you around to all the stops or just walk. -

Compared to duck tours I have been on in Boston and other places-this one didn't come close. Had some great views from the river but the tour was too short-and barely saw any of the city by land. I would recommend-from the way it looks-going on the open topped double decker bus.

I think the experience is driven by the guide. Ours was very good, especially mixing the French and English in such a way that everything flowed smoothly. Wasn't sure if he accepted (expected) a tip. We didn't see anyone else tipping (peer pressure you know) and didn't tip the guide. I wish we had.
I enjoyed the "handmade" character of the Alo Bus. It's as if some crazed inventor couldn't decide if he wanted a bus or a boat. And then painted in is some drugged adelled haze.
We've been on the duck tours in the Wisconsin Dells and Boston. This one is about average. Yeah, it's touristy, but hey you are, after all, a tourist. -

I had a great time touring old Montreal on this amphi boat, it's similar to the duck tour in boston. The highlight of the trip was our highly personable tour guide who not only knew his stuff, but also livened up otherwise boring portions of the trip with antics. Due to the nature of the location much of the tour focused on architecture and history which I found quite interesting. With a less interesting guide this would be a 3, but he made it a 5 with the extra effort!
