Review from Roma M.
Upon hearing a few years ago that an AMC was opening at Yonge & Dundas, I was pretty unhappy. I thought this place would turn into a shitey suburban mall a la Midwest with their love for everything in excess.*
I actually love this location of AMC for their amazing screens, cleanliness, top notch movie options/timings and customer service. I left something in one of the theater rooms sometime ago and they were super helpful about retrieving it. Also, I've yet to see a speck around one of the seats and there is always an employee waiting outside to clean just as the movie ends.
I can be sure that one of the less mainstream movies will be playing here allowing me to make last minute decisions without having to sit through a Vin Diesel movie in resignation.
If they'd change the concession options to include more variety, I'd make this my go-to theatre in a heartbeat.

I like this theatre. It's located diagonally across from the Eaton Centre and occupies the top floor of Toronto Life Square. You'll have to take some escalators up but you'll come across a Starbucks, Futureshop and a food court before you get to it's level. There are a few restaurants on the top level including Jack Astors, unfortunately the Woo buffet there has closed down for good.
The theatres have decent seats and it's pretty well maintained. The video and audio or those of newer theatres so you won't really get stuck in that one crappy theatre that seems to only house art house movies.
The thing that I hate about this theatre and possible all AMCs is how terribly slow and poorly designed the self serve ticket booths are! Please AMC fix these things. I'm pretty sure old school Commodore 64s would out perform these things. -

For some reason, I stayed away from this AMC. But my opinion changed after I saw a movie (Enter the Void) at TIFF.
Large screens with excellent sound system. Very comfortable seats with enough leg space and recline.
Even with those advantages, I somehow stay away from this theater. Then last fall, I watched "Buried". No other theaters were showing the movie, so I had to go to AMC. And I noticed that AMC has a nice mix of mainstream blockbusters and independent movies. I had a pleasant experience watching a movie there.
Since then I watched a handful of movies there. It's just that this isn't my first choice theater to watch movies at. Maybe it's due to the location. I just don't like parking my car around that area. AMC does offer SCENE card type membership, and I am planning to get one since I get discounts on ticket prices.
There is a underground parking lot on the south east corner of Yonge/Dundas. Nice restaurants are located on Elm street, which is 5 minute walk from the theater. -
Review from Tara A.
I always feel conflicted in this city when choosing what / where to see a movie because I feel like I need to support the small independent theatres in Toronto (although so many are disappearing.. tear) but last night I ventured to the AMC for a screening and I always forget how wonderful the theatre really is.
Once you make the trek up the 3 escalators, you are normally greeted with pretty happy people (a nice change from some of the other theatres in this city). I always head to the snack bar immediately which is where my disappointment lies. The AMC will not let you bring outside food into the theatre (fair enough) but then also don't have very good options apart from the usual Nacho / Popcorn options. They do now have pretzels which I tried last night and I highly suggest you avoid at all costs. DISGUSTING.
Once making your way into the theatre, the aisles are wide and the seats move to accommodate your comfort level. I appreciate both of these things.
They seem to get some of the better movies here so I tend to head there more often than not. Last night I saw an advance screening of the Muppets... Pretty fantastic BTW.Listed in: My 30 Day Challenge

My very first job in high school was at the AMC Winston Churchill 24 in Oakville, so I have a soft spot for this little multinational theatre chain that could. Any place that tells its customers that "Silence is Golden" without even a hint of irony is OK in my books.
This particular location crowns the 10 Dundas East (formerly Toronto Life Square (formerly Metropolis)) complex at Yonge and Dundas. The box office is on the ground floor, so you can review the selections, purchase your tickets, and then take an elevator (or three escalators) to the top. If you forget this crucial step, don't worry there are kiosks at the top, but you'll need a credit or debit card.
The inside is just grand. There is a classic film theme; portraits of movie stars of old adorn the walls and there are famous movie quotes etched into the floor. The twenty-four theatres are distributed over two floors and it takes another two escalators to get to the top floor.
For me the film and sound quality is far and away better than their competition and their theatres are way more comfortable. AMC's chairs are known as LoveSeats™ (I'm not joking) which means you can raise the armrest to facilitate snuggling. One of my favourite moves to pull on a complete stranger is to lift the armrest up as soon as the lights go down for the feature attraction. When they "get all weird" as they surely will, pull it down and that armrest is YOURS, baby. You're welcome.
Obligatory Title Pun: AMCee there, y'all.
Menu Readability: Are you telling me you're showing up to the movies and you don't know what you want to see? Please step out of the line. In fact, why don't just go home.
Need to mention: Don't order the pizza. The hotdogs are solid however.
What this place teaches me about myself: Yeah, I'm that creepy guy trying to cuddle with you during Faster and Furiouser or whatever it was called. DEAL WITH IT. -

Visited this theatre for the first time the other day to see the Muppets movie.
The box office staff were friendly and quick. The snack counter girl was good and knew her stuff when my friends and I started asking questions about the ice cream and popcorn sizes. I find it odd that there are no prices on the pictures of the combos on the menu, you have to find them elsewhere on the menu board.
The theatre was clean, and the floor wasn't sticky! Yay!

This AMC uses the latest state of the art digital projectors and audio systems. 3D and Imax capable.
Tip; The lifting armrest chairs at AMCs makes it a perfect movie venue choice for date nights. Snuggle with your date here. haha
Comfortable and and stadium seating providing elevation over the row in front of you.
No complaints for the theatre.. can't comment on the food as I don't eat here. -
Review from Susan G.
In terms of large theatres downtown, AMC will always play second fiddle to Scotiabank for me.
While they do a bazillion theatres (24, in fact) as well as IMAX and ETX, There is just something missing - and my suspicion is that it's their concessions.
While their popcorn is ok (often dry, not the best) and their drinks are pretty typical, they don't have anything else special. One thing that kills me is the lack of flavor shakers... to the point that every time I went there for the first year-ish, I asked and they told me "they're coming" but now I know it was a lie! Also, I had one of their staff members tell me not to get a pretzel because "they're gross". So, I'm not so impressed on the food front (at least I can eat in the food court downstairs?)
Another downside of this theatre is their midnight releases - they just don't have the space like other theatres, which results in lines in the food court downstairs. Not ideal.
All this being said, AMC does have the bonus of cheap movies before noon, though, no cheap days (like Tuesdays are in cineplex movies).
Overall. it's a big theatre wtih state of the art sound and great digital picture. Worth going to, yes, but if they up the concessions, they might be able to make it 5 stars!Listed in: My October 30

Review from Yvonne T.
You would think that a theatre in the expensive downtown retail location of Yonge & Dundas square would be small - think again! This AMC is a multi-level theatre that does not compromise on grandeur.
The only annoying part is that if you're in theatre 20 and up, that you might end up tripping by the time you get up the spiral loops otherwise known as escalators to reach your final destination.
If you are going to come to this AMC, make sure you eat beforehand, because otherwise, you will be tempted to eat as you pass by the food court en route to the theatre. And then when you arrive with your full Bento Box dinner, you will be asked to please leave it at the door or trash it. So at the expense of looking like a mongrel and having to scarf down your dinner, or throw out food (there are starving children in other parts of the world) - eat something or if your'e one of those generous people who will dole out $5 for a bag of corn kernels, by all means - go for it!
Standard AMC features including adjustable arm rests (mostly information for the dating crowd) who want to nestle up to each other during a movie. The theatre is well-maintained and clean.
Would definitely recommend coming to this theatre if you're downtown! -

Remember those movie theatres that used to be in the Eaton Centre, which is now the home of Old Navy and H&M? I remember going there and paying $5.00 on tuesdays to see a movie, maybe two, and the theatres ranged from Large two stories (no bigger than the 'small theatres' today), and TINY with only 30 seats. The basement was low, and there was no supervision.
Welcome to the modern version of this. High ceilings, over 25 theatres, 2 levels, also minimum supervision, and tons of space to run around in.
The AMC chain has some pros and cons against Cineplex, not that I"m loyal to one or the other, but it's nice to have the flexibility.
I have a MOVIEWATCHER REWARDS card. You get 2 points for every ticket you buy (also for other people, up to 4 pts a day). They have a rewards schedule (http://www.amctheatres...), so rather than redeeming your points for stuff, once you accumulate enough, you get free stuff. AND they offer Moviewatcher discount prices ($11 rather than $13.50). AND you get free stuff on weekdays when you watch movie.
Today, I earned 10 pts (3 movies, 2 of which I had bought 2 tickets). AND it was a Wednesday. That earned me 2 free popcorns.
Also good is how I can print a temporary card right online. After searching my wallet, I guess it's at home somewhere, and I can print out the thing and give it to the ticket person.
=== I was just looking for where to join, but I think they are switching this Moviewatcher free membership into a paid rewards card. Sign up ASAP at the theater before it all goes away! ====
After trudging up a lot of escalators, the theatre is at the top floor of the Toronto Life building or whatever you want to call it.
As usual, the snack bar gouges you for even more money. I figured I got a free popcorn, I'll splurge on a bottled water rather than the dinky 'tap water' cup you get. $4.25 for a 500ml of Dasani water!!!! Even the vending machines in the place are also this much. Ridiculous.
Popcorn is good tasting, and option to add butter from the condiments machine at no charge. I am gross and I like lots of butter on my popcorn.
I also like that it's an ACTUAL SMALL size popcorn. Rather than Cineplex's version - the nonexistent one. They only advertise the Medium size as the 'small'.
Pre Movie entertainment was cute, with lots of sponsorship from the Muppets.
I also always loved the AMC chairs - the raising arm rests lets you cuddle with your hunny, as if you were on a couch. Sort of.
I know some new Cineplexes also has this.
Parking. It's expensive. You have a few underground lots around the area - Ryerson, Dundas Square, Atrium on Bay. They range from $8-15 in the evenings. Your best bet is free, after 6pm if you eat at Pickle Barrel or Spring Rolls. You could also find parking east of Yonge near Church and Victoria Streets, but it's a walk.
OR take the subway here. Less stress, more mobility.Listed in: NOV 2011 - 30 days Yelp…

Review from Janna S.
This is my first choice for watching a movie downtown; you don't even have to go outside to get from the subway to the movie theater!!! Compared to the Scotiabank theater, AMC is more accessible, has more bathrooms, and is by far the CLEANEST movie theater in the city.
I rarely buy popcorn at the movie theater because it's overpriced and you can buy it cheaper at Kernels, which is about a two-minute walk away in the Eaton Centre. Just make sure you bring a large opaque bag to conceal your forbidden outside food and you won't need to drop half your wages on butter-flavored Styrofoam.
Did I mention CLEAN? Because Scotiabank Theater smells like a moldy dirt trap and the bathrooms there are invariably crowded with lineups. Clean wins you big points. Keep it up AMC! -

This is my favourite movie theatre in Toronto. I love their morning movie special pricing, movie watcher (reward) program - you get a lot of freebies fast, the super clean washrooms, clean theatres, general upkeep of the venue, customer service, the staff who don't seem half dead, and the convenience of it being downtown right at a subway station! On the customer service point, I missed the first 10 minutes of the movie on account of them not showing the trailers and me being a bit late thinking that I will only miss the trailers... they were nice enough to give me a coupon to see it again or another movie. Fabulous!

Review from Hideki K.
AMC 24 Yonge & Dundas is in a great location, for a movie theater, being right at Dundas Square.
However, tickets are pricey, and they don't feature the best film selection, but it is a nice theatre. A lot of the better films that are missing from here can be seen at Scotiabank Theatre (a Cineplex facility).
If you go to any AMC, make sure to become an AMC Movie Watcher (soon to convert to the annual membership fee AMC Stubs program) member for an instant discount for movie tickets. Unfortunately, tickets here are not cheaper on any given date.Listed in: Best of T.O

I like this theatre. The image quality is very nice, the seats are comfy, the sound is loud an discourages people from talking. I like how the seats recline a bit and the armrest lift. It is not as expensive as those overpriced famous player Theatres so I can't take points away on that. I can't comment on the concessions since I never eat at the movies, makes for a bad habit. Only major problem I have is that they don't show many mainstream movies.

Going to to the AMC Theatre downtown is a series of pros and cons. For example, for many, the central location is great. There's really easy access via ttc and just by walking, depending on where you live.
Forget being limited to ridiculously overpriced popcorn, drinks and candy. You can go downstairs to one of the two foodcourts in the building and pickup whatever you lick for (slightly) less! I know you're not technically allowed to do this, but in my experience, no one will call you out. What if I want a shwarma with my movie? Or decent ice cream? Both have been done and gotten away with.
They have an insane amount of theatres. Two floors of them, something around the low twenties. The seats are really comfy. Seriously, I had a lecture class in one of these last year and it was always very difficult to stay alert. They're a vevlety red, go back a bit and if you want to snuggle, just put up the armrest!
The price is wild, but we knew that already. The service is meh. Not hot, but not too cold. Something weird actually happened yesterday when one of my friends checked her email on her cell phone for about one minute. An AMC person came into the theatre, walked all the way up and over to our seats and asked her to turn off the phone. No sound was emitted! Was the little screen affecting the big screen? We will never know. It was just kind of odd, especially considering she wasn't the only one checking in over the course of the movie. Mystery!
AMC's movie's arn't always the most up to date I find and sometimes they hold onto movies for way too long. Never had a bad experience, never had a moving one. -

Dear Tom Cavanagh*, please quit acting, immediately!
These were the words running around my brain after having to endure Yogi Bear (not my choice) for a scant 80 minutes.
But a good venue is a good venue. This is literally subway accessible entertainment built vertically. Sure prices are a little on the steep side but you take the good with the bad. I can't think of a smoother run megaplex that doesn't reek of New York Fries and DDR matches anywhere downtown. For that, I give you an extra star, AMC!
Also, free wi-fi (as far as I could tell) helps matters. I'm a fan, indeed!

A big theatre with easy subway access and clean seats. The tickets are a bit pricier than Scotiabank, but only by a buck or two.
As far as concessions go, the nachos are tasty and the cheese has a nice jalapeno kick, but they're not the same "AMC movie nachos" from the states with Tostitos chips and cheese.
Just a fair warning for everyone. :-) -

Ever notice the popcorn here is HORRIBLE...
Also no half price Tuesday....if there was I would be here every week, if not more. The chairs are comfortable...when no one is in the theatre I make a little bed for myself...yes I'm one of THOSE people, and the screens are very nice!
Upgrade your concessions, Oh and don't charge $13 something for a movie...that's a little expensive! -
Review from Andy O.
Best theater I've found in Toronto. Decent prices prior to noon, they seem to have periods where they play a lot of indie movies and when once there was a projection problem, I immediately got a coupon for a free ticket and they called me once they fixed the issue.
Big screen for indie movies at about the same price as Carlton theater (before noon, that is...)? Hell yeah! -

Very clean theater with very nice seats! It's such an advantage to be near everything (Yonge St., Eaton's Centre, tons of restaurants, etc.) Jack Astors is right next door to the entrance of the theater! :D
I find their popcorn to be overpriced and blah tasting. I usually bring my own snacks.
ALSO, the washroom is COMPLETELY CLEAN. THE FLOOR LITERALLY GIVES YOU A REFLECTION OF YOURSELF! I like clean washrooms... -

Despite the AMC's proximity to the Eaton Centre and Y&D Square, i've never found it overwhelmingly crowded or poor quality service-wise.
* Pros
- Interesting mix of new releases, and other movies that aren't getting wide releases
- Smack bang on top of Dundas subway station and right near the Dundas streetcar makes this a great location to get to/from.
- The most comfy seats in all of Toronto's cinemas, all tiered well to avoid anyone blocking your view
- Food courts and chain restaurants nearby means you can grab a bite before the film and skip pricey concessions
- If you must hit concessions, they actually have a few small & slightly cheaper options for snacks.
- Plenty of washrooms inside the ticketed area, spread out well throughout the cinemas.
- Pretty decent and efficient staff
* Cons
- They don't always get new releases i'd like to see in this cinema over, say, Scotiabank
- Moviegoing crowds here can be a little annoying, but not enough to put me off for life
- Getting out of the complex can be a bit of a bottleneck if one or two well-populated cinemas empty at similar times.
During TIFF it's one of my fave screening locations, I just wish it had enough of what I wanted to see year-round for me to go there more.Listed in: Moving Pictures - Toronto…

I like this place, I guess that's why I keep coming back. The seats are comfortable, I like that I can lean back, and the temperature has always been decent (unlike some places). The location can't be beat (easy access from Dundas Subway).
I know some people aren't into the "butter flavoured topping" that AMC has going on, but I love that it's available. Not that it's in anyway good for you (mmm soybean oil...), just that all signs point to its veganness, which works for me.
As with every movie theater, they will gouge you at the concession, and make you wish you had the foresight to sneak in your own snacks. -

I had a few hours to kill this afternoon while my car was getting smogged and decided to check out 'The Last Exorcism'.
While I've found Canadians to be nice, they sure can't seem to close their pieholes during a movie. Seriously, what the hell?
At 3pm on a weekday, there were maybe 4 other couples there. People were talking in the back, front, to my left and directly behind me. This is a serious movie people, get a clue before you get a coke zero up the dingus. -

- a huge theatre in the downtown core
- easy access by subway
- always jammed with teenagers
- if you're hungry beforehand, not too many spots to grab a decent bite beyond the touristy trap stuff in and around dundas square.
- btw - harry potter was great! -
Review from Teena D.
My husband and I saw "True Grit" there this afternoon. I've been there many times in the past.
Yes, it's a pain to get to (three sets of escalators) but the theatres are nice and big if you are seeing something new and/or popular. If you have their card, it knocks a couple dollars off the ticket price every time.
It's easy to get to (kitty corner from Eaton Centre).
If you're hungry, head there a little early and grab a bite to eat in the food court or one of the restaurants (Milestones, etc.). -
Review from Dishan W.
It's a little frustrating that movies are now split between here and the Scotiabank Cinema. The movie watching experience here just lacks something, but it makes up for it by having all their cinemas in digital quality, I enjoy the popcorn here (but lack of shakers is a downer for me), I wish they had a bit more range when it comes to the concession stand, it IS in the heart of the city.
The system is a little unusual with the box office located 3 stories below the theatre, with automated machines at both locations. And as someone that comes here around twice a week, I am more familiar with their loyalty program than most people that work the box office, which is a little frustrating having to explain their own system to them, but the staff at the customer desk are always very friendly.
The midnight release experience here is clearly inferior to that at Scotiabank as they cannot accommodate large lines inside, and had people lining up in the food court for the Harry Potter release, it was the same for tiff, rush lines would be in the food courts and it gets confusing very fast.
The IMAX experience at first glance seems less impressive than what I'm used to, but after a few trips to both this and the Scotia one, I'm coming to realise the disparity is not as large.
Their ETX seems larger than the Scotiabank Ultra experience, but the lack of seat assignments makes this lose out on that front.
If you watch a movie (even if it's once a month or so) it makes so much sense to sign up for their loyalty program which trumps the scene due to the reduced ticket prices, although the rewards come in smaller portions than Scene's, but AMC provides free popcorn via emailed coupons every Monday - Thursday if you pay attention to their emails.
But this is a massive complex, their movie options are questionable at times (having 3 Indian movies playing in the same time period for e.g.) but it does deliver on the quality front which is enough for me.Listed in: Your tiff Guide!

Review from sarah l.
Be upset about the prices. Be annoyed about not being able to bring in outside food and drinks anymore. Be irate about eating the worst pretzels you have ever had the misfortune of being exposed to. But don't overlook the $6 deal on weekend mornings. This review will focus only on the AMC 24 at 1140 on a Saturday.
The good:
- Saturdays and Sundays before 1200 movies are $6. It's an extra $2 for ETX and an extra $2 for 3D so if you have the misfortune of seeing Clash of the Titans 3D in ETX you will have wasted a full $10, which is still less than seeing it in a regular theater.
- Usually in the morning there is a 16 year old kid at the door who doesn't care if you bring Starbucks inside. If there is an old man at the door (he is there very occasionally) he will hassle you about it - but AMC doesn't sell coffee so Mike & I bring our Starbucks in anyways. (I am ashamed to admit that I drink Starbucks when I see movies here).
- The chairs are big and comfortable
- There is hardly ever more than 6 people at the theater before 1200
- Once we got $20 worth of free popcorn at Ironman II - it was badass.
The bad:
- ETX is too loud. It shakes the room and the speakers cannot handle the volume they crank it up to. I enjoy the ETX screen size, but they need to turn it down, and not just a little bit.
- I feel bitter when I have to pay $2 extra for ETX. I would probably never choose to see something this way so I feel like they should actually discount my $6 ticket to $4 if I have to bring my own earplugs.
- It is always too cold in this building.
- The concession prices are ridiculous.
In summary, I try to get here once or twice a month for a $6 movie and I bring my own snacks. I would not pay full price to see a film here nor would I ever punish myself with another one of their pretzels of failure when there is a pretzelmaker in the basement of this building. That is a high quality pretzel. -
Review from Taylor O.
I also visited AMC 24 for the TIFF to catch Lapland Odyssey, a sort of Finnish Harold & Kumar but a bit better.
The food court was wonderful and the building stylish. I, however, have a major complaint in that the sitting is not angled properly with the projection of the movies so that it's several feet too low so you have to sit absolutely straight up to see the whole screen and strain at that. This is less of a problem when you aren't trying to read subtitles; if you are, you're screwed. Hope this isn't the case in theaters other than #7... really hoping. -
Review from Denise M.
Toronto, ON
This place is a labyrinth of levels, escalators and multiple theatres showing the same movie which can make for a bit of confusion when your movie is starting in 5 minutes, but it kind of adds to the grand experience of seeing something on the big screen.
I guess $13.50 is now the going rate for seeing a movie these days but it still seems a bit expensive to me.
The location is cool, there's something classic about going to the centre of a large city to catch a film.
No complaints with sound, seating and visual. I'll be going back again the next time Hollywood provides me with something I'm stoked about seeing in the theatre. -
Review from Tina H.
No butter?! Are you SERIOUS?!! Only "butter flavoured topping"?! How do you mess with people's movie experience like that?! So shameful.
The screens aren't bad but they're smaller than I remember Scotiabank's being. I was expecting a bit more for some reason.
The no butter is a deal breaker. I collect Scene points (for some reason) and will be going to Scotiabank theatres instead for a better screen and better popcorn. I'm not the only one who thinks this place is lame. It's in the centre of the centre of the universe (downtown Toronto, if I wasn't clear) and is pretty much vacant on a Sunday! You know you suck when... -
Review from Karl R.
AMC has a movie watcher point card like Cineplex. It knocks a buck or two off a movie ticket and I guess you can collect points for a free show. AMC had to re-issue their cards to several card holders because of some internal fudnuckle. Who knows? Why I'm here crowing about this is they mailed me my new card PLUS a free coupon for a free bag of popcorn. All for the trouble of taking my old AMC card out of my Hello Kitty vs Ultraman credit card wallet and putting a new AMC card in. Deal!
To sum up, I've got 2 free passes and 1 free popcorn coupon. All are currently unspent. Anyone want a cheap date with Karl R? We'll roll large! I'm saving so much I could even spring (out of my OWN pocket) for the snack counter nachos if you have a hankering. Totally on me.
(Anyway, an extra star in this update for further evidence AMC knows how to make it all right with customers.)Listed in: When you're alone and life is…

Pros:
- Convenient location, in heart of downtown, next to subway, Eaton Centre, etc.
- Food court and restaurants in building, good place to eat before movies.
Cons:
- Ridiculous prices. $13.50 for a movie!!!!! Add several dollars more for 3D, "Enhanced Theatre Experience" and "IMAX". On the other hand, cheap on mornings Friday-Saturday-Sunday. -

Visited AMC 24 for the TIFF. Fairly normal theatre. Although I usually try not to buy food in theatre, I did because I was so hungry that day. Like usual, it is expensive, which I would not mind for the convenience, but it is bad too. Overall good experience.

Well, when I went to see Sherlock Holmes it was an extra $2 for "ETX" which is allegedly 20% larger than their normal screens. Still a good deal though.

If I had KNOWN the Blueprint of this building, then I wouldn't have come here HUNGRY passing quickly through a Food Court, and multiple Franchise Restaurants to get to the Movie.
Passing through the Food Court was OKAY because I can just get on the escalators quickly and pass by but the AMC Ticket Taker booths were right in front of a Restaurant where we had to wait in line to get a GOOD whiff of the food(I was STARVING) while the line moves towards the Ticket Taker.
Getting in to see the Theatre it was less than half full, I realized I can no longer take it anymore and had to get some 'Theatre Food' as you can no longer EXIT from the Ticket Taking Entrance to get food from other Restaurants you pass-by.
Stuck getting a PLASTICKY Hot Dog and Watered-Down Root Beer, that was when I regret not doing enough (Adeel O-like) research before coming here. The GOOD I got from this was Semi-comfy seating and the Hot Dog was so plasticky that I was still not hungry after a 2-hour Movie.
TIP: There are 2 Men & 2 Women Washrooms in this place, so if you see a LINE-UP at one then simply try the one from across only a few steps away.Listed in: Retirement Planning

AMC's my favourite theatre for new releases. The seats are comfortable, and the armrests go up so you can snuggle up with your partner if you're going on a date. Although it's expensive, they have cheap tickets if you go in the morning sometimes and often have these coupons for popcorn and a drink (see: http://www.tribute.ca/... for an example!) that totally offsets the cost in my mind. And I don't mind the prebagged popcorn-- from working at a movie theatre in my youth, I know there's no way they could've sat there very long.
My only complaints are, as mentioned, the confusing layout of the place and (not related to the theatre) my boyfriend's absolute REFUSAL to put the armrest up. I like it when you put your arm around me, but the armrest digs into my side. What a jerk. -

I mostly love this place. The screens are great, the seats are comfortable, and I like that they occasionally show independent fare. The prices are steep, but it's worth it to get the Movie Watcher card, which lowers the ticket price by a couple of dollars. The $6 weekend morning price is very good deal, so take advantage of it when you can.
If this is your first time visiting, come a little early in case you have trouble finding your theater (the layout can be confusing). Also be aware that outside food and beverages are not allowed, and they'll take you for all you're worth at concession. So don't bother with the food there, eat before you arrive. -

There's a lot to like about this theatre: easily access to transit and foot traffic, big-name movies, and comfortable seats. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I can get on to how I really feel.
This theatre - and, indeed, the ENTIRETY OF THE REST OF THE BUILDING - feels like a colossal afterthought. It's almost as if they laid out the escalators first, and then added other stuff in stages. "Oh, we need a movie theatre? Done. Wait, it needs to be twice as big? We'll make it two stories. Wait, the Future Shop needs more space? We'll make it U-shaped!" Ugh. That's to say nothing of the fact that the exterior of the building is a solid wall of gray and advertising. I kinda prefer to take the subway here just so I don't have to look at it.
Then there's the escalators: there are too. Damned. Many. When the place you buy tickets and the place you use them are separated by three stories, you've got issues. I mean, it's not an insurmountable task to do so, but in a universe where not doing it is possible (and, indeed, the norm), why on earth would you do it? The Escalator of Doom at the Scotiabank may be long, steep and have a decor that utterly destroys your ability to perceive angles, but the AMC situation is just tedious.
The lack of IMAX disturbs me mostly because big-name releases are going to be split between this theatre and the Para... I mean, Scotiabank, which does have IMAX. AMC has already deprived me of IMAX for Star Trek, which I'm not likely to forget soon.
The concessions are sub-par. Popcorn isn't fresh (ugh), and there are no seasoning salts. As a dude who loves the Salt and Vinegar on his popcorn - enough to choke me is a good starting point - this is highly discouraging. The lack of other foodstuffs I can kind of understand... but the Scotiabank is oh so convenient with an assortment of food (all of it unhealthy, yes) available to take in with you. Largely because of the company I keep and their disdain for "schedules", "dinner then a movie" rapidly turns into "dinner at the movie" so this is somewhat important to me.
I'm told that the theatres are used as Ryerson lecture halls during the day, once again making me glad I decided to eschew a big-city edumacation for a school effectively in the middle of nowhere, in a city precious few people want to be in (McMaster). I don't know what would be worse - falling asleep in the comfortable seat (a hard wooden chair does WONDERS for keeping you awake in class), or that the moviegoing experience would be FOREVER RUINED after taking Thermodynamics in a theatre. Hopefully, at least, they use the building as a living example that while drugs may make for better music, architects and civil engineers should stay well clear.
The upshot: It's a big theatre. There are better in the area. This likely won't matter much, as if the movie you want is playing here you're probably SOL for seeing it anywhere else close by. -

Vivian and I along with her sister went to see Sherlock Holmes with some friends, go there 20 mins before....show was packed and we had to sit close....well during the previews we decided to see if we could switch shows to the later time. The customer service team was great, and very quick at making our troubles go away.
The seats are amazing on their own, agree with Jon S 100% on that one for sure! I always forget about Movie Watcher, and I will have to get my card going again, thanks for the reminder Jon! The place is always clean and is huge, so there is more then likely a show time that works for you.
Wonderful experience! I also love that it's surrounded by restaurants.
