Review from Holly N.
Another fantastic dining experience at Amanda's.
We hit up the super reasonably priced early dinner for two special $32 total or, obviously, $16 each. (You have to order before 5:45, but the quality/quantity/price of the meal make eating at a dinner time intended of the elderly completely worthwhile.)
After strutting into the establishment right after work and being seated at one of the quaint tables near the window, I ordered the cheapest red wine on the menu (yes, I'm classy.) I glanced at the prix fix menu, and what a menu it was! I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of meal choices available - this isn't your run of the mill limited 2-3 choice menu. Entree options included cod, skirt steak, pork loin, chicken, and ravioli. Translation? I can come back again and again for a variety of excellent meals.
During our geriatric dinner I immensely enjoyed all three of my chosen courses. I started out with the soup of the day, a cream of corn. It was both creamy and scrumptious! More than just cream and corn, there was a delicate addition of pesto, carrots, bacon, and potato. Just the right amount of everything in harmony.
For my main course I decided to get something I wouldn't make for myself - honey and sage marinated pork loin with asparagus and creamy polenta. I don't know if it's my favorite meal that I've ever had here, but it was definitely delicious. The polenta might have been the most interesting part the meal because it was done like a flavorful extra smooth mashed potato.
To conclude my meal I choose the chocolate moose. It was presented beautifully with whipped cream and strawberries topping the moose which sat inside a dainty chocolate container.
If I have my way, I'll definitely be having early dinner more often!Listed in: Yes, please!, Jerseylicious, Super Amazing, Classin' it Up, Hoboken Hott Spotts

I went to Amanda's for a early afternoon brunch with my gal pal. I was expecting it to be packed at 12pm, but there was plenty of seating. Roll out of bed and shake off your Saturday night stupor by noon and your might beat the crowd too.
The food was good but didn't make me swoon. I was expecting a more exciting brunch menu but it was pretty basic. Nonetheless, the decor and ambiance of the restaurant is cute and classy.
Will post an update after I eventually go back to try to the early-bird dinner special. -

You can never go wrong with a dinner at Amanda's.
I've been here plenty of times (the early bird pre-fix helps) and have always been satisfied. Every dish is stellar, and their sommelier knows exactly which wines compliment the meals. While I don't see a reason to deviate from the wine, they do have local brews on tap and a top shelf liquor selection.
Realize however that Amandas can be pricey, and you may need a reservation. Occasionally large events are booked and the restaurant will have limited seating. Hence you should make a reservation every time.
Undecided on what to eat? Well you can never go wrong with steak! Honestly everything is fantastic and you owe it to yourself to try Amanda's. -

We went to Amanda's for brunch on Sunday and had not made a reservation, but tipped up as they opened and were fortunate to get a table. Had we turned up 5 mins later we would not have been so lucky. So make sure you book. THe Bloody Mary was lovely, sharp just as I like it. The Food now that's another story, I had Crab hash with poached eggs, i can't tell you how good it was. My OH had the deep fried poached eggs which are undescribable. All I can say is you must must must try this place.. The best brunch I have eaten in a long time

Whenever I have family or friends visiting Hoboken, this is my go-to restaurant to make reservations {for both brunch and dinner}. The ambiance makes you feel like you are \ sitting down for a meal at your grandmother's house- simple and homey. The entrees taste fresh and homemade...like no corners have been cut. And I love that the menu is constantly being updated depending on what is in season.
Solid choice. -

Little Falls, NJ
Having dined several times over the years- this was by far one of the worst experiences ever. I will say in the end they did the right thins. Service was beyond sub par with too many things wrong to mention.I must say the pollenta app, beat and avocado salad and lobster bisque were amazing- that was the ONLY redeeming thing about the evening. The chicken, steak and tuna entrees were inedible. Could not swallow the chicken and it was only the second time in my life I sent an entree back. We poured our own wine the entire night- service was lacking.
I WILL GIVE THEM MAJOR POINTS FOR THIS... everyone has off nights- this was really off. The manager was very nice and receptive. I had a nice one off with him on the side. He took off two of the entrees (which we did not ask him to do) and he even offered complimentary desert (which we passed on). We tipped on the total check- as if the entrees were on there. Honestly service was bad but it's a tough job waiting tables.
The measure of a business or person is not in the mistakes they make but in how they handle it and rectify them. I am impressed with how well they cared about it and for that alone I will go back. I have never had a bad experience like this and was floored- but I want to go back just to prove to myself that all those other great times were truly great. -

My fifth time visiting Amanda's over a 10 year period. Every time I dine here the service and the food gets better. Great atmospher, Great menu selections and Great prices. I think Amanda's is the only true restaurant in town where it's perfect for couples and/or group of family/friends to enjoy a great meal and have a great time. Reservations highly recommended especially on weekend.

Review from Eric G.
Can't say I've heard of Amanda's before last night when my friend suggested we go there for dinner. Glad it was brought to my attention though because it was really good and it wasn't on my already long list of restaurants to try in Hoboken.
For my entree, I got the Herb-Crusted Chicken Breast, which was amazing. It was nice and tender and it had really great flavor. It went really well with the garlic mashed potatoes it came with. It also came with some vegetables, which I was particularly a fan of because they seemed too raw, but overall, excellent meal.
Each staff member we encountered was super friendly and the service was great. It was definitely more of a classy environment than I had expected, which isn't normally my style, but I liked it. It's a nice place to take the 'rents (especially since it's a little on the expensive side). Also, they had a really good wine selection, which I mean, is always a plus.
I've heard their brunch is great, too, so I'll definitely be back for more Amanda's. -

Divine. This review is for brunch only. I recently met a couple friends for Sunday brunch here, based on Yelp hype... thanx yelpers! I'll pass on the brunch recommendations without reservation.
The food was really top-notch. The rolls brought to the table when we were all seated were sort of a throw away, but were fresh and were a nice touch for those not ordering a large bread basket.
The clear highlight of our meals was my friend's crispy eggs, so I'll start with that dish. Crispy eggs are poached eggs that were frozen, then covered in panko bread crumbs and fried. They were fabulous - the frying perfectly crisped the panko while rewarming but not overcooking the eggs. Modernist cuisine techniques that were used to be delicious, rather than just impressive. The dish came with prosciutto, asparagus, porcini mushrooms, greens and I think a couple other things. It was really terrific.
My classic eggs benedict was also wonderful - creamy, decadent hollandaise, everything perfectly prepared and seasoned, and accompanied by ripe fruit and potatoes. Although I think the potatoes could have been slightly better had they been all cut the same sizes, they were really good as they were.
My friend's warm sliced chicken breast over mixed greens with currants and pecans was similarly yummy, and was exactly what she wanted. Bellinis and coffee were common, nothing I'd write home about.
Service was just about flawless. We were greeted warmly and our coats were checked promptly. Although our party wasn't complete, we were immediately given a table in accordance with our reservation, and we were not hassled due to our lateness or the fact that we stayed and chatted even after we finished eating, even though the restaurant was constantly full. Water glasses were constantly refilled, and our server was charming and knowledgeable. No complaints.
The restaurant is cozy and, despite its size, great for conversation without feeling like you were listening in on neighboring tables or having them listen to your conversations. Clean, nothing fancy, just nice.
Make a reservation (phone/ online) - this place is popular! Also, parking in a garage a few blocks away is validated for 3 hours (see the website).
We're all looking forward to coming back!Listed in: Brunch & Breakfast - the good,…

Brunch was outstanding. Food was hot and fresh. My fiancé ordered bellinis, which were really good. The Balthazar bread basket is great. I'm looking forward to going back.
Only negative: coffee was decent at best. Get your coffee first somewhere else. -

I realize this place is better known for their brunch.
With that said, this rating is for dinner ONLY.
I will have to try brunch another time.

I came here on Hudson County restaurant week with a large party.
First things first, the service was great!
One waitress and a few helpers but she got the place moving.
She tried to change our wine glasses with each different bottle we got but soon realized after the 2nd bottle that we really didn't care anymore so put an end to that quickly.
Based on their pre-fixed menu.
I had the cod which came out EXCELLENT.
However, my appetizer, the calamari was HORRIBLE.
They had a very good wine list. $30 + bottles.
We have the private room in the basement.
Beautifully decorated.
They voucher parking tickets for up to 3 hours!
I feel like I'm doing injustice by rating their dinner (and pre-fix) menu.
But if you are planning to go there for dinner... 3.5 stars. -

I love Amanda's. We've been here 3 times already, and each dining experience has been a good one. The last visit was brunch, and both the poached eggs and crab hash, and vegetable omelette were very good. Of course, we had to start out with their Bloody Marys - which were very good as well. The ambience there, shall i say, is 'classy, homely' - kind of like the dining area of an elegant bed-and-breakfast. Lastly, the wait staff there were very attentive. Although the overall review of Amanda's was that it's 'not good for kids', we had brought our 3-year old toddler with us for brunch, and they were very accommodating to him. Another big plus as to why we love Amanda's.

I love brunch. Who doesn't? Eggs benedict, bloody mary's, vanilla bourbon french toast--too much deliciousness to go around. With that said, I've been to quite a few brunch places between Hoboken and Jersey City, but they don't seem to understand good food service. For this reason I have yet to rate any restaurant 5 stars until now.
Hands down Amanda's has the best brunch service in all of Hoboken and Jersey City. I brunched there this weekend and the food and service was impeccable. We made reservations, and were actually seated upon our arrival (that never happens)! As soon as we sat down our drink orders were taken. The menu was original, and didn't have half ass copies of whatever other brunch spots do. I had the poached eggs with crab hash, which I haven't seen anywhere else (and it was very good). Also, I was delighted by the side of fresh fruit came with the meal. The food came out quickly, even though it seemed pretty busy. And the waiter even remembered to our coffee refills were decaf.
I really like the homey decor, but my boyfriend did complain the tables/chairs were a little small for him. Other than that it was a great experience! -

Had high hopes for this place. Went for dinner this past Friday. Lived in town for many years and have never been. Review are great so expected something exceptional. Very underwhelming. Decor is awful and stuffy. They could use a face lift and get with the times a bit. The food was nothing to write home about and for the price, you are better off going out somewhere cool in the city. Overall OK. Won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Visited Amandas on a friday night I was a bit apprehensive after reading a few yelp reviews which criticized the service. The night we were there the service was spot on. We did have multiple servers come to our table but for the most part we had a main waiter who was cordial, unobtrusive, yet attentive. Our dinners took time but we were informed of the progress.
Lobster Bisque creamy and subtle. Cod, clams and chorizo worked for me as the spicy sausage was a nice foil to the delicate fish. -

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Hoboken. Staff is friendly and welcoming, they are knowledgeable about the menu and willing to answer questions. I've only been here twice - once for pre-fixe Mother's Day menu and once for brunch. The pre-fixe menu isn't cheap but the food was terrific. They even gave my mom a tomato plant as a parting gift, which I thought was super thoughtful.
Brunch was also very good. I had the club sandwich - only mediocre part of the meal was the potato straws. There was a heap of them on the plate and I didn't even make a dent, not much flavor to speak of. I tried the crispy eggs, very good and very unique. Would definitely recommend this place to someone looking to book something for a special occasion. I also noticed several private party areas.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Brunch- 4.5 stars Dinner 2.5 stars
Tied with Elysian for my fave brunch in Boken. Reasonably priced for it's elegant surroundings and soothing jazz playing in the background. The closest you can get to a womb-like environment to recuperate from a night out.
Dinner however has been disappointing. Overpriced and you can get better, more creative food elsewhere. -

Sitting up front is quite nice if you're into wine and cheese, it's a quaint place this Amanda's. I believe the same owners of another place in town?
Amanda's has a decent wine list and some pretty good dinner entree's- my Mom was in town, so the wife, me and good ol' Mom stopped in for dinner. They loved their dinners, mine was OK (I ordered the steak...note: I'm a huge filet mignon fan...especially bone in!...unfortunately at Amanda's they only have another cut of meat which is a bit tough ). All in all, apps, dinner, dessert, coffee- was a great time.
I wish there were more seemingly intimate restaurants in Hoboken (we are still searching as we moved here a few months ago from Chicago) -

Review from Justin A.
I went here with dinner. My first though....What is up with the decor here? I felt like I was in my grandmom's old house. Definetley needs an update.
For wine bar, this place is okay. The wine list is small, but the selection isn't bad - oenophile's will be able to find something to drink in every price point. They did have a rare Malbec from Argentina which was nice to see.
As far as food, the food is okay.
For appetizer, ordered spinach salad and polenta. The salad was nothing special but the polenta was awesome. In fact, the polenta was the highlight of the meal.
My dish matched the decor - tasted like something my grandmom will make. I ordered herb chicken - it had potatoes and some carrots on the side. This was not good at all - uninspiring and really bland. I ate like a girl here - which never happens.
Amandas is okay for dinner. Maybe I need to try this place for brunch and ti will be a better experience. -

The servers at Amandas are sloppy and depressed. The manager gave me the creeps. I don't even remember the food because the vibe was like a black pit of sadness.

Jersey City, NJ
I came back here for dinner with my parents and bf. It was their first time meeting each other so it was an important occassion. I'd say the dinner was pretty good but the ambiance is a bit older and stuffier for an older audience.
I had a pre-fixed early dinner meal: mixed green salad, sauteed cod, key lime pie.
It was a fairly okay meal. Portions were smaller so I didn't feel overly stuffed by the whole thing. My diet coke was flat so I had to send it back, but the mixed greens were fresh. Sauteed cod was a bit bland. Keylime pie was REALLY REALLY tart. Also, it looked like it was melting as it was slumped over on the plate. However, the price is pretty awesome to be eating in a place like that. We also had the option to get a bottle of wine with the meal for $20. Good deal! I think I just picked the bad choices of the menu. My dad picked the polenta and it was really awesome. He chose the hanger steak and that also was really good. Lastly, he got the Apple-raisin Streudel. I was reaching over and eating off his plate; it was so good. Overall, the ambiance is lovely for a "proper" meal and the price was unbeatable. The quality of food though is probably better for brunch though. -
Review from Taka A.
Jersey City, NJ
Good place with friendly wait staff and well prepared food. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars because although I have no complaints about the food or staff, there was nothing special about this place...
Being in New York all the time, its difficult to give 4 and 5 stars to places that just don't jump out at you. The descriptions for the dished were so boring that my girl and I were not very enthusiastic about ordering....pan roasted fish, grilled tuna, marinated grilled chicken breast (seriously...who goes out to a nice restaurant to order chicken breast?!? americans...), a flank steak and a sirloin.
We ordered the steaks and the food was flavored well but the steaks were slightly overcooked (I guess that's what I get for ordering a steak outside a new york steak hour...). The best thing about this place was that all bottles of wine were half off! Sweetness.
They also have a pre fixe as well so if that's your thing, you can do that as well. I think based on the reviews, I'll need to come back for the brunch and lunch. -

Hoboken, NJ
Very pretty place inside and attentive help most of the time. I must say I wish they had more on the menu for a picky guy like me. I have had a few of their salads (beet, watercress & mixed greens) and they are always good. As for entrees, I have had the short ribs, chicken, sirloin and the shrimp dishes and all were good. Overall, good food and ambiance. The wine list could use a bit of help as well, but then I lived near Napa for 7 years. I like this place and Anthony David's in all of Hoboken for ambiance and food with Anthony David's a bit higher than Amanda's.

AMAZING truffle and pea risotto. Portion was perfect as risotto is so creamy, and the flavors were outstanding with the mushrooms. Boyfriend had the calamari which was so delicate and not greasy or fried so very light.
Salmon with ratatouille was perfectly cooked, the veggies and pesto complimented the lemon cream sauce on top. Was just perfect. Boyfriend had short rib ravioli which was a little dry but mushroom sauce was divine. For dessert we split a molten chocolate lava cake which was perfetly moist on the inside, but with a slight crunch on the ouside. Amazing.
2 reasons not giving it 5 stars: Came here in November and had the scallops and was disappointed, flavors were bland. But more annoying is the waitstaff. There was no host to greet us and there isn't really even a host station. Both times I've been here we had to awkwardly search for a host. Waitstaff has 0 personality and doesn't really know the menu. We asked if the restaurant week portions were any different from the regular meals and never received an answer, only weird mumbling. They don't have any explanations and just have an awkward table manner in general. However this did not at all make the experience unenjoyable as the ambiance is lovely and food is delectable. -

Awesomely delicious fare! It's been awhile since I ate there so I no longer remember the name of the dishes but the flavor impression they left will never go away. Service is very friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance is romantic or a quiet relaxing dinner should you deem your date unworthy of this yummy yet pricey food.

Brunch here is reasonably priced and the food is pretty tasty. The restaurant is elegant and classy, like dining in someone's tastefully decorated Parisian home. The hostess was great and even took our coats, but our server was a bit inattentive, forgetting to bring the coffee and not checking on us to see if we needed anything after our food arrived. When we finally managed to flag her down for ketchup, we were already halfway done with brunch.
I'd give this place 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up for the cute, cozy atmosphere. -
Review from Sean R.
After much pleading from my girlfriend, we finally made it to Amanda's for brunch on Sunday morning.
Upon entering the hostess asked us for the name on our reservation, we figured since we didn't have one there would be a long wait, but we were seating right away.
One notable about Amanda's is the ambiance; it is sophisticated yet comforting. If you are going for brunch, casual dress is appropriate, but I assume for dinner, nicer dress attire would be called for.
It was different having a full place setting for brunch, but I was happy when a server brought out bread before our appetizer. I wasn't a fan of the bloody Mary I had, but the bellini was pretty good. The smoked salmon app was great, I would order it again for sure.
I was a bit disappointed with the entrees. They were OK, but I expected much better. I had the eggs benedict, and my girlfriend ordered the crab hash with poached eggs. Both dishes were a bit sloppy, like the chef just threw them together without caring about presentation. The taste was a nothing to write home about , it wasn't one of the better eggs benedicts I have had. (eggs benny is my go to brunch item)
Another notable is the service, our server was great, and the other servers were prompt with clearing dishes and filling up water glasses.
Overall its one of the nicest brunch spots I have been to in Hoboken, I just hope next time the food is a little better, everything else about Amanda's was great. -

Classy, sophisticated restaurant on Hoboken. It's pricey, but the food is worth it.
With all the bars and restaurants geared for the younger, fraternity boy crowd on Washington Street, Amanda's stands out as being really classy and nice place to take a quiet, romantic date or to celebrate a milestone with your friends and family.
We came here for Restaurant Week and had a wonderful prix fixe meal with some friends for a great price. The service was very attentitve. -

While visiting friends in Hoboken we decided to stop in at Amanda's for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the great food, wonderful service and unique atmosphere. The restaurant provides an elegant yet homey feel that comforts you with a warm fireplace. It was a perfect place to get in from the rain and have some girl time over some afternoon drinks.
The service was friendly and attentive- even though it was noticeably under staffed for the large parties that we in the back area of e restaurant.
The menu had an array of selections from soup, salads and breakfast to full entrees. I enjoyed the fresh greens salad with chicken- yummy!
Take a walk downstair to the restroom and check out the wine cellar!
Next time I am in Hokenboken I will be going back to Amanda's! -

Delish!! Just thinking about my brunch at Amanda's makes my mouth water - YUM!
I've been to Amandas before for dinner, which I thought was pretty good, but the brunch here was amazing. We started with the mimosas, which were tasty and had just the right amount of alcohol in them to make me nice and buzzed. I got the sweet pepper omelet, which was cooked perfectly and was rich with flavor. My boyfriend got a club sandwich with ham - it too was delish.
I really loved this place. It has a great atmosphere, good service, and yummy food. I'll def. be back for more.
