Review from Tanima M.

I have never ever had a bad meal here. The amount of creativity and thought that is put into the food, and the monthly menu changes is amazing. This is the place the opened my eyes (or should I say tongue?) to the possibilities of food. If anyone asks me which restaurant is a must try in Ottawa, this is the place.
I can't make any recommendations since the options change every month. The menu is always updated on their website, so easy to see what's new every month. On every menu there is a dessert option called Chocolate Duo (sometime Trio), it is different every month, but is always amazing, I can't not have dessert at Allium, no matter how full I am.
Another must try is the Chipotle Caesar on their cocktail menu, the addition of bacon and charred green onions, always makes this drink a conversation starter.
The best part, is the food is amazing, but the atmosphere is casual and friendly, no need to dress up! And the servers are amazingly knowledgeable and extremely accomodating.
If you haven't been here, you have been missing out. -

Went to Allium last night, and was just a little impressed - certainly not as impressed as my fellow reviewers here. The service was super slow - and it wasn't that busy so minus one star.
The wine choices were wonderful - and reasonable - that was perfect.
Had the burger on the recommendation from the waiter - who said the burger was better than the fish - but I should have read the menu description of the burger. It was a meat factory waiting to explode. Ok - so there was beef, bacon, braised short rib meat, and pea-meal bacon - it was wet, drippy and very difficult to eat. The measly tomato and single leaf of lettuce didn't turn it into a burger I enjoyed. The soggy bun I left on my plate. Again - minus one star.
The burger was accompanied by frites and dip - that were delicious and perfectly seasoned right to the last morsel. I bet the steak frites would have been phenomenal.
I probably will be back - but I'll leave having a burger for a burger joint next time. -

Coming here on tapas night (Monday) is a pretty amusing food experience. I mean were else in town would you go and have a good to really good plate and have somebody at the table say "That was ok." and ask "You didn't like that?" and "well compared to the 'insert item here' it was ok. If I didn't eat 'insert item here' I wouldn't feel that way about this plate". That was a few of the funny conversations we had about the food last night.
Time and time again Allium delivers from it's simple dishes to some of their more complex dishes. There's a wide variety of flavours in every plate and once you start...you really don't want to stop ordering dishes.
I want to make food recommendations for Allium but the menu changes every few weeks based on seasonal availability, so go in, trust your gut and take a chance! :)Listed in: Ottawa: Best Eats, Ottawa: Finest Dining

Holy crap this place is so good. Where do I even begin? I don't know how to so let me just offer some tips:
1. Get the chipotle caesar. It has bacon in it. WIN
2. Get the duck. You get duck in 3 or 4 different ways of awesomeness. Plus they serve it with mac and cheese, win again!
3. Get a dessert. I got the banoffee pie and it was unreal.
Best meal I have had in Ottawa. Probably top 10 ever. -

Allium embodies the best of Ottawa's growing fine dining scene.
The food is local, tasty, creatively prepared and fairly priced. To start we had beef tartar topped with fois gras and a salad made with greens from maripossa farms. Both were fantastic. For mains, we had the bison strip loin and duck breast with fois gras - both dishes were delicious. The service is professional and friendly.
The wine list has been carefully selected and there are many offerings by the glass, half liter and bottle. The pricing is fair. Unfortunately, Allium doesn't allow corkage.
Overall, an excellent experience. We'll be back. -

Wow- this food is as good as it gets!
Seasonal and local- the buzz words of the day perhaps, but every mouthful was so delicious that you didn't even think about how hip and trendy you were being ;-)
We ordered the cheese platter to start, the duck and fish as mains and ended with the chocolate fondant.... incredible good and quite reasonably priced when you're looking to have a nice meal out.
The menu was imaginative and offered great wine pairing suggestions and it changes every month so there is always something to come back for. They also do tapas night on Mondays which I am now very keen to try!
One visit will make you a fan! -
