Review from Kathleen L.
Vancouver, BC
What do I love most about the alibi room? the flights of beer. oh yes, nothing can beat them. I'm in heaven when I have that strangle looking paddle in front of me. I believe it's around $11 or so for 4 samples (6 ounces each?) of different beers. I try and get 4 completely different types of beer every time. I can't rave highly enough for their beer selection. They really are top notch. Most likely one of the best beer options in Vancouver.
I find the location is fantastic with a comfortable view of the train tracks and sometimes even a little ocean. The servers are almost always friendly and incredibly knowledgable about the beers on tap, which is very helpful.
My favourite thing on the menu is the smoked albacore tuna salad with the delicious daikon and miso dressing.
The atmosphere is great for a cozy first date in the dark upstairs area or a catchup with 6 of your closest friends in the downstairs area.
Get there early on a weekend night. It get's super packed pretty early. -
Review from Meana k.
Great beers and quite a selection to choose from. You can order a flight of beers which is awesome. About $11 to try 4 beers of your choice? I'm sold. Also, they sell beer by the glass OR pint which is nice. Sometimes you want just a bit more but not that much.
The servers are quite knowledgeable in what the offerings are and can provide you suggestions based on your tastes or menu pairings. Service was great in general, actually. Our server came around periodically to check on us, clear glasses/plates, and offer another beverage.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and casual inside. Tables ranged in sizes and could easily be used communally. Love that. I didn't check out the downstairs, but could see there was some more space there with another bar.
Lastly, I have to tell you about the food. I split the bison cheese steak sandwich with my friend. Man, that was good. It was small, however. It's no sub which is how cheese steaks usually are sized. The meat and cheese and onions were just perfect and I will most certainly go back for that sandwich and another great selection of beer to wash it down with.
Total win for the Alibi Room. -

I'm not sure I could say anything that isn't a GLOWING review of Alibi.
I've said this before, but I'm a beer fan. I love beer, I love local beer, I love good beer, I love cheap beer, I love drinking beer...like I said, I love beer.
Alibi room is honestly my beer mecca. This has got to be the best place to sit down, have a pint and look out at rainy Vancouver. They always have a great selection of beer on tap and it's awesome to see local casks featured.
All in all I love it.Listed in: Hot Eats

Anytime my friends suggest dinner in Gastown this is always one of my first suggestions. Always. The reasons are many: 1) I know more likely than not there will be seating for us be it for 2 or 10 ppl; 2) the servers are not only friendly but knowledgeable which makes eating there all the more enjoyable; 3) the food is so good -- the beet salad has me wrapped around it's little finger and I don't mind; and 4) the beer selection as has been mentioned over and over is stellar.
This place is off the beaten path of Gastown but it's worth walking the extra distance. I don't think anyone will walk away disappointed. -
Review from Purdy J.
Mmmm, it doesn't get any better than beer and brunch at the Alibi room on a Sunday morning. The best beer selection in Vancouver that provides you with the newest and freshest brews around. Brunch is always stellar and hearty. Show up right when the doors open at 10am and you can have any seat in the house. Seats quickly fill up by 11ish but still has a relax, open and spacious atmosphere. Especially compared to the evenings when the place is packed and buzzing.
I highly recommend the smoked salmon Benny again (The smokey salmon is so delicious and goes so well with the creamy dill cream cheese and includes hearty potatoes and a slice of watermelon.) however, I think the corned beef hash may be even better than the Benny. It's the best hash I've ever had. The corned beef is so perfect... It's so moist like it's braised and so flavourful. The meal is complimented with my best friend spinach. It's SOO good, I lmost want to bump my review to 5 stars but the Other menu items are ok and the beer is a Little pricey.Listed in: Craft Beer Heaven in Vancouver

The best selections of taps in town!
I love this place, love the long wooden tables, and the exposed brick, love being next to the tracks and seeing trains go by.
The taps are definitely the best thing about the Alibi. I've had tasty food, and especially enjoyed a VCBW event with a great spread including fried chicken.
I've heard great things about their brunch, but have only gone once. The potatoes were a little under cooked, and I'm not the biggest fan of their super tiny fries (too hard to eat with you hands)
But like I said, this is the best place in town to drink a large variety of craft beer. -

Awesome beer list and just a great spot to chill with a big group of friends and spend a rainy afternoon or evening. If it's just me and the hubbie, we opt to sit at the bar where the bartender is knowledgeable and cordial and the view of the mountains and trains through the windows is like moving art. You never know who you're going to meet because the staff, bartenders and patrons are usually so friendly.
I especially enjoy the $11 beer flights (4) they offer because it helps me identify what I like and don't like (not normally a beer enthusiast) each time I go. Go to munchies here are the burger, fries and wings. When I'm in the mood for a meal, I get the half cornish game hen dinner--yum. In case have a preference, their seafood choices are sustainable and all their meat products are naturally raised, free-run or local. Keep in mind that on weekends, they serve brunch from 10am-3pm, but from 3-5pm the kitchen is closed...alcohol only during that period. Kitchen reopens after 5pm for dinner service. -

Things I love about Alibi Room:
- They have an amazing and constantly changing selection of beers.
- A commitment to serving food that is local and/or raised through sound & ethical agricultural practices.
- Friendly & knowledgeable service staff.
- Beautiful heritage space in Gastown.
- Terrific snacks to go along with the insane on-tap selections.
Things I don't love about Alibi Room:
- Consistently slow service.
- Entrees that are ofthen lack-lustre.
- Increased noise levels due to the huge, open space.
Basically I love the concept of the Alibi Room, but sometimes I think their intent is lost in translation. I haven't been here since early summer, and upon perusing their revamped website I see that they've changed over some of their menu items, so perhaps another visit is in order. Hopefully they've improved in areas that I previously found lacking and I can up their rating - I want to give them more! -

Hands down, still my favourite place for thoughtfully crafted and selected pints. An in between jaunt for friends in East Van, North Van and Van West, not to mention the magnificent list of beers - this is a suds lover dream!
Other reasons to love The Alibi Room? Well, if you're with some single girlfriends, you're likely to tap into an array of beer loving menfolk. There's always a conversation to be had around any one of the communal tables, upstairs or down. I'd bet that suggesting Alibi Room for a date spot (if you're the one sporting an x-chromosome) will score you points. Heck, I suggested it for a meet up with a guy friend, and his eyes lit right up!
So why not five? I'm just not that excited about the food. It has been weak on all of the occasions I've eaten here, besides the wings of course. Plus, with success and popularity comes longer wait times. It gets mighty busy, but it's worth a bit of a wait. Afterall, you came here for a special-can't-get-this-anywhere-else brew right?

Beer Beer Beer! If you're a beer fan, this is the place to be! More GOOD selections on tap here than anywhere else I know. Service is impeccable and the food is also great! They've done a great job @ catering to both veggies and meaties. I find many places are great @ one or the other, but they've hit the mark in both areas. I can't help myself with the wings they serve....outstanding! They can get extremely busy on Thursday/Friday/Saturday so plan to get here earlier than later.

I am a fan of their brunch!
I'd say this place is one of the top contenders for the best french toast I've ever had. They have this amazing french toast stuffed with caramelized apples and brie, served with whipped cream and a shot of maple syrup on the side - if you like it sweeter. So good! But if you're more into savoury, they make a good eggs benny too and it comes with a huge portion of roasted potatoes :) -

How refreshing to sit in a leather chair in front of a window with a shipping port in the distance and snow-capped mountains farther out.
How soothing to sip a Pimm's Cup while staring at said scenery.
How fun to take pictures in front of the Alibi Room's minimalist decor: typewriters and stacked magazines.
How sad to be back in Atlanta. -

4.5 stars
I am a total beer geek as are my friends and we were all super satisfied with this place - has to be the best beer bar in Vancouver, service was a bit on the cold side by vancouver standards (bar staff is so damn nice up here!), but other than that I have no complaints...atmosphere is awesome, classy, dark, candle lit, happening but not too loud.
I enjoyed an amazing barrel-aged imperial flanders red from a local BC brewery as well as a pretty damn nice russian imperial stout from another - this place is pretty great. -
Review from Tatiana M.
The Alibi Room had me singing that old schoolyard adage; "U-G-L-Y, you ain't got no (seat at the) ALIBI, you ugly...yeah yeah, you ugly." I don't want to go into too much detail as to my frustration right when we got there, but let's just say this: you're most likely going to wait for a table, and you're not necessarily going to be made comfortable/feel welcome as you wait. However, once we were seated a bar stool, the host was very accommodating in trying to get us to a table (though we much preferred the bar seating).
We ordered two taster trays (very annoying I'm sure), but the only way us short-term visitors can try as many beers as possible! The taster tray ($11CAD) gives you four 4oz. tastes of *any* beer they have on draught ( very generous). The draught list is very impressive by Canadian standards, and includes a great selection of beers from BC and few further afield (Canadian, American [California, Oregon, East Coast], German, Belgium). Our server was excellent; extremely knowledgeable, articulate and honest about all the beers. The beers were some of the best we tried while visiting BC.
If I lived in Vancouver, this would be a regular stop (probably on off-nights), even though it's kind of on the outer edges of Gastown. The surprisingly large location though lends itself to a very quaint train going by late at night, which is almost too much for the already picturesque space. The decor is modern log-cabin; metal complemented by wood, candle-lit and communal seating. A definite must for any beer-lover. We didn't get any food, but I want to try it next time we're in town (I smell baaaacon!).Listed in: Vancouver, BC

Burnaby, BC
Two of Alibi Room's greatest assets are the communal seating arrangements and its extensive beer menu. If you're a fan of having large social gatherings with more than enough to drink, this is the place to go to.
I've been here a few times and nothing has changed other than its popularity. There are two levels of this establishment. If you're seated upstairs, you have the option of being indoors or outdoors. In addition, there will be a server coming around to take your order. If you're seated downstairs, however, there's a smaller bar where you place your orders. Food will still be delivered to you.
The food is original and trendier than your average pub. My friends and I ordered a few appetizers (the "smoked sablefish brandade with a radish salad & crostini", and the "mushroom & hazelnut pate with truffle oil, whole roasted garlic bulb & crostini"). Both were extremely flavourful and addictive - I highly recommend for starters.
I wouldn't suggest the house or tuna salad. They lacked flavour/dressing and only two slices of tuna were provided. The bison burger was flavourful albeit a little sloppy but worth trying.
I can't complain about the beer selection because there's more than enough to make you indecisive.
As aforementioned, the popularity of this place has increased over the years so don't expect seating right away during peak hours if you're in a large group. There is free and pay parking along the street.
Bottoms up! -
Review from Robin M.
For a chill place to meet up with friends, Alibi is perfect. Phenomenal beer list that emphasizes local breweries (like seriously good), a decent, though pricey, whiskey list, and some good wine choices, there's a little bit for everyone.
I love me a good loft-like space, so going to Alibi is like going to my happy place. Cozy, dark, and wide open, this space oozes a laid back and relaxing vibe. The food is never amazing, but it's good for salty snacks after a few too many drinks.
Also, extra points for communal tables. -

Amazing, constantly changing beer list.
Last time I went, I had the smoked salmon benny ($12), and it was probably the best eggs benedict I've ever eaten, besides my mom's of course! If you're going to get one, go early, cause they sell out of them often!
I'll be going back for brunch & a beer soon, probably this Saturday! -
Review from Alex G.
Vancouver, BC
First, the negatives:
They're closed Sunday and Monday night, and that seems to be about 80% of the time that I want to come here, for whatever reason.
The menu is getting a little long in the tooth. The food is good, but -- coupled with the relative lack of new and exciting beers in the summer -- after eating here maybe ten times in two years, I'm getting a little bored of it, and I'm frankly pretty tough to bore.
The positives:
This is pretty much unequivocally the best gastropub in Vancouver. Nobody's tap list is better; nobody's atmosphere is better. They could use some competition, actually, but if you like beer and you like food then you will almost certainly not be disappointed. -

Amazing beer selection. It would take an entire night (and a really rough morning) just to get through the IPA selection

Review from addie l.
The service was fantastic, the atmosphere was great, the beer selection was very impressive, and the food was pretty good.
I loved the 13 aged sour Lambic. It was by far the best lambic I've ever had, as it wasn't terribly sweet. As far as food goes, I had the salad with tuna and it was kind of pathetic...almost no tuna and it was mostly just lettuce. I tried a lamb dish which was delicious and the french fries were tasty.
I will definitely be back next time I'm in Vancouver and will most likely stick with booze and appetizers. -

I really wanted to love this place. I did!
After reading all of the previous yelp reviews, I was really excited to come here. Their website doesn't list a brunch menu and we were debating on whether to go to Alibi Room or Au Petit Chavignol.
The food was great, the raspberry ale I ordered was LOVELY, but the service REALLY left much to be desired.
Other than the fact that our server was wearing a cool Batman shirt, he was downright dismissive and kind of a jerk.
The lady who seated me while I waited for my friend was VERY sweet and asked if it was ok that we sat at a railing and said she could clean off a table, it wouldn't take long. The place wasn't all that packed, my friend arrived and we were pretty much seated immediately.
We waited about 15 minutes to even be greeted by our server.. we sat at bare table with no offer of water or cutlery or anything. Finally our server approached us in a very brusque manner. We ordered and asked for some water while we waited... 5 minutes goes by... 10 minutes goes by... finally he plunks it down on the table without a word.
Food arrived shortly after.
I ordered the huevos rancheros which was AMAZING, my friend ordered the eggs benedict. Everything tasted so fresh and it was cooked just right. I also got a side of sausage, best choice I've ever made.
The server swiped the salt and pepper shakers off of our table to give them to the table across from us. I thought he would replace them because we did want pepper... no dice.
We finished our beer and caesar.. asked for our bill. My friend wanted to pay with her credit card, he said he would punch it in and bring the terminal to her. We waited at our table with our dirty dishes for another 15 minutes and finally went up to the counter. I saw my friend's credit card sitting among a disorganized pile of menus and that dude was nowhere to be found. That was the final straw.
I've worked brunch shifts before. I understand if you're hungover and want to go home, but the service was completely abysmal. Drink some Gatorade and suck it up, man!
Next time we'll try somewhere else. -
Review from Justin M.
Vancouver, BC
I have to admit that I was initially dubious about whether it was possible to have all those beers on tap (I'm sure you've heard - there are tonnes) and keep them fresh. But the last time we visited I went all over the menu and I have to admit, every beer was super fresh. I'm a bit of a beer aficionado so I was in heaven. The menu is really well laid out, generally from light to dark, and the descriptions were very helpful.
I was impressed to notice that they wipe the tables down with vinegar and water - no chemicals. I wish all bars and restaurants would do this.
And there are no TVs - praise be to whomever you pray to!
If you're heading out for a bit of bromance, try and get a seat at the bar where you can look out the window and watch the trains go by. Choo choo! -
Review from Amy T.
This place is the home of the best burger I have ever had.
Part of that may have been to do with my idyllic vacation mindset, but I choose to believe it was really THAT tasty. The menu says everything is all natural and local, which may have played a role too. At the first bite, I had that "OMG DELISH" epiphany. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I don't remember the beer I had, but there are a ton on tap, and they rotate frequently.
We were seated downstairs, which has its own bar that you go up to and order your food and drinks. This worked out conveniently for our group, as everyone was able to order as they pleased and also pay separately. It's kind of dark down there, but they put candles on the tables to make things all sultry and atmospheric.
If I lived in Vancouver, I think I would come here quite a bit. My wallet would weep (not used to $8 beers here in Phoenix!) but I'd be a happy girl! -

Warning - this review is written from a beer slut perspective. I had no idea they served brunch here until I looked over the reviews before writing this - brunch? I suppose that's alright as long as I can get a 'burr'.
I've been here a couple of times, but I honestly didn't think much of it - it was largely forgettable (and not for the obvious reasons). Okay - selection of craft beer is pretty impressive - it's not only a large selection, but a good selection. The beer menu reads like an all-star line-up - I roll down the menu, my eyes glaze over and I suck back the drool as I recall delicious pints. They are currently stocking one of my favourite brews of the moment (that I discovered in another bar before that keg was killed -- which I had a large part in doing).
I like the fact that they clearly mark the 'hoppiness' of each beer - I'm a hophead and it makes for easy selections. And I really, really like the fact that there are no TVs at this bar. I honestly don't give two-fucks about the Canucks/UFC and it's near impossible to find a decent bar in the city that isn't jammed packed during the playoffs. Good for business, I suppose - but it makes me secretly wish the Blackhawks prevailed so things can go back to normal. Yup - call me a hater. So hats off to Alibi Room for keeping it real for the beer sluts.
So why the 3-star rating? Well - it's pretty similar to St. Augustine - but more expensive. I'm only talking about a buck or two more a pint - but that adds up when you engage in multiple rounds. And it's much easier to find (free) parking on the Drive and it's right beside a Skytrain station.
Despite all the pro-advice I'm given on how some certain beers need to served out of a specific beer glassware - for the life of me, I can't taste the difference. The only tulip glass I care about are ones with my two lips on 'em. (...pause for response on that weak pun...) I'll take my generic pint glass holding craft brew for a buck cheaper at St. Augustine - I'll treat it as a 'buy 5 and get the 6th free' promotion.
However, Alibi Room is the respite from the cacophony of sports fans when I just want a 'burr'.Listed in: A Compendium of Fine…

North Vancouver, BC
A buzzing spot with a gregarious crowd and chill atmosphere specializing in craft beer along Alexander in Gastown. With its fabulous selection, it's a clear winner for craft beer lovers! And for those looking to experience the craft beer scene in Vancouver, it's a great unpretentious intro spot.
If you're a craft beer newb (like me), I highly recommend trying the craft beer samplers - 4 sample beers (4 oz./each) for $9. You can select your beer from a menu page or you can tell your servers what you prefer (sweet, bitter, hoppier, light, etc). The knowlegable servers will tell you about the beer, its flavours and origin.
With its loud dimly-lit setting with long picnic tables, comforting pub food, and a great selection of craft beer, it's perfect for groups of friends and craft beer lovers to enjoy.
Similar to: The Diamond and Steamworks (atmosphere-wise), and to St. Augustine's (craft beer selection wise). -

Come here for beer flights and good conversation. I adore this old brick building and the various comfortable nooks within. You have to love a menu typed in the courier new font-family! You can't go wrong with the food - always simple fresh and flavorful. This little bar is perfect on a chilly fall evening or a crisp morning.

Went for brunch and loved it -- a nice casual, quiet bar with funky staff and patrons. Some people sat outside while others stayed indoors happily reading their morning paper with breakfast.
The menu offered lots of delicious options and I had the eggs benedict with brie and pesto. A flavourful, delicious way to start the day. Great beer on tap too ;-) -

Just had my first visit to the Alibi Room and it was pretty fantastic.
Holy beer selection Batman! I will agree with what one person has already written, it is a lot like St. Augustine's but a bit more expensive, and way more "hip".
I liked the basement set up with the tv at your table, so we could watch the game! And I like that sharing tables with strangers is encouraged. Vancouver needs more places like this that force us out of our shells and to actually socialize with, gasp, strangers.
For food we had the charcuterie plate and the edamame, which was fine. Nothing spectacular, but did the trick. -

I'm a little ashamed to say it took me, uh, almost 10 years to get here. Yes, it's true. I've always heard a lot about the Alibi Room but only actually stepped in a few months ago for the first time. It was a friend's, husband's brother's birthday (yes, i latch on for dear life when it comes to social events) and after hanging out at Trench Gallery (awesome) we headed across the street to Alibi Room for more drinks and dinner. Unfortunately, we were more than anticipated so the space was tight but we made do.
We were seated downstairs which felt a bit ghetto...just my style. I loved the list of micro brew on the chalk board and, as per usual, opted for something with a weird name. I wish I remembered it, but memory recall is quickly deteriorating with my old age. But I do remember I liked it. I also liked the second pint I had of something else. And the food...yum!
So definitely a good spot if you're looking for microbrews and convulse at the thought of Molson.Listed in: Beer me!!!, Gastown Goodness, Drinks anyone?

The best breakfast I have had in Vancouver in a very long time - maybe even ever! I was here this morning with boyfriend and another couple, and I thought I'd died and gone to brunch heaven.
I had the brie, roasted tomato and pesto benny and it arrived with some beautiful new potato homefries. Every component was perfectly seasoned and my eggs were nice and runny the way that I'd asked for. Boyfriend's mushroom, spinach and chevre scramble was similarly beautiful. Nice big pots of tea as well!
One suggestion? Ask for a side of hollandaise if you choose this particular benny (which I recommend!) as it normally comes with just pesto. I stole some of my pal's liquid sunshine (aka hollandaise) and spooned it on top - my brain almost exploded. Happy!
The kitchen is small, but they did give us a warning that the food would take a while so I'm not complaining about the 45 minute wait - but be warned. If you're starving better have a snack first.
Up there with Twisted Fork and Locus for me - I will be back again and again!Listed in: My Very Favourites, The Brunch Glutton Has Her Say

I'm not a beer drinker, but my husband is. For beer selection alone, he gave it five stars for all that they have on tap. But, despite trying eight (he's Polish) brews, he found nothing to write home about.
As for food, my hubby was also unimpressed with his Philly cheesesteak, BUT don't get me wrong, our experience wasn't really that bad. Atmosphere was cool; love the beer hall setup, where you may or may not share space with friends or strangers. MY food, the bbq pork belly, was just yummy, and I enjoyed my jalapeno slaw. But, I ate the pork belly separate from the bun, because I didn't really like the BBQ sauce it came with, haha!
In the end, we enjoyed our time with great company, but I can't say I'll be rushing to head back. -

Very, very cool place. Recommended by the front desk of our hotel, this place has an awesome atmosphere and vibe. A very hipster scene, relaxing and bustling all at the same time.
This place is known for all of their delicious beers. We also had some chicken wings that were amazing.
Definitely a place to check out off the beaten path in Vancouver. Our hotel warned us to take a cab instead of walk (I guess its a bit of a shady part of town) but it was well worth it. -

I've been here tons of times, never a bad thing to say.
The atmosphere is always so great - good vibe and friendly people. The long tables are great for meeting people and being friendly.
This place is definitely for the beer lover - they have one of the most impressive lists in Vancouver. Not being a beer drinker, it's kind of lost on me, thank goodness that they also do great food, and have awesome service. -

I wish there was a sixth barley soaked, hoppy scented star that I could add to my review. I truly love the Alibi Room!
The best of the best, pints down.
Check out their wintry beer menu right now. I had a couple brilliant Winter Ales the other night. And a few other randoms too.
If I am lucky enough to be served by Nigel, I always ask him to pick my beers. Why? I am indecisive and well... he knows his beer. Just give him an idea of where on the light to dark scale you want to start.
The samplers are an awesome choice to experience the entire menu light to dark and back again. It is do-able. Just don't do it on a work night.Listed in: Beer Heaven

I'm beginning to love Gastown and one of the reasons could be because of the Alibi Room. Totally cool place to hang out with friends and chat the night away. Casual but really friendly atmosphere. Two floors and very spacious tables and bars.
The selection of wines and beers wasn't that extensive and they didn't have a huge menu, but what was on the menu was awesome. One of my favorites was the endaname beans and reisling. Yum.. -

The Alibi Room is just great. Get there early enough and you can get a table, from which you can, in comfort (if a bit chilly - this building is VERY OLD), sample their incredible beer list. On my last visit, I tried the Swans Coconut Porter - yes, a COCONUT beer - and shared the mezze plate with a friend. Their homous is absolutely delicious, and so were the olives and roasted red peppers that were served on the plate.
My second beer was a Howe Sound Megadestroyer - a beer that was brewed specifically for the Alibi Room's 200th tap. I'd had it in bottles but experiencing it draught-style was fantastic. We also ordered cocktails, which were fittingly strong and delicious. Everything was great, and the price was reasonable.
This is the kind of funky-cool-out-of-the-way truly-Gastown bar to which I would bring an out-of-towner if I wanted to convince them to move to Vancouver. -

Strange location in the middle of an odd area. We went during the day so maybe the area gets better at night. They have a very large beer selection with many local beers and many imported beers. They also make very strong mixed drinks. If you like beer you should check this place out. Lots of friendly people here.

Wonderous beer selection!
Great brunch, can't speak for the other menus but everything on the Breakfast menu is so so good.
