The best pizza I've ever had. Ever. Period.
    Lefty's has great deep dish.
Bronx has terrific NY style slices.
Nothing touches the fluffy crust, tangy sauce and savory cheese on an Alexander's Pizza. It's like they took the best ingredients, blasted them with love, and shaped them into the greatest pizza that ever lived.
My favorite combo is blue cheese and maui onion, it's insane.
The beet salad and the brie appetizer are also wonderful.
With the pristine white, candle lit interior, and superior Italian food this is the go-to date spot whether you want to impress on a first date or create something romantic for the wife.

First visit here last night, based upon an expert recommendation.  Unfortunately, although Alexander's currently enjoys 4-stars or more - and I suspect deservingly so - no place is perfect.  Indeed our experience was not so sanguine as was expected.

Yes the decor and atmosphere are delightful, the food well above average and mostly a very good value (except inexplicably, a few entrees seemed very overpriced while others actually seemed, under-priced).

The pluses of Alexander's are many and I agree with many of the positive reviews here.    But for some balance, let me note some negatives:

    Parking:  Good luck!

Early seating:  I felt sorry for the many patrons who sat at a number of tables with bright, late afternoon sunlight in their faces, and without any shade.  (We had a shaded booth, fortunately.)

Service:  Because of our early seating (5:30) our waiter was initially pleasant, informative, and attentive.  And we did take some time after ordering drinks and appetizers before placing our dinner order.  But then, he quit us as the restaurant began to slowly fill.

Strangely and belatedly, only one of our two appetizers was served.  Sometime later, our second appetizer finally appeared.  And then we waited, and waited, and waited for our main course.  When we asked, we were told it would be "right out."  20 minutes later it was still not.   Finally at about 7:10 (after being seated at 5:30 remember) only 2 of our 3 entrees were served.  The 3rd, a pizza came about 4 minutes later.

When I asked what the problem had been - his or the kitchen's - the waiter tried (lied?)  to blame it on the large party seated next to us and their large order.  When we explained we were seated at least one-half hour BEFORE them, he offered to 'comp' us a glass of wine... which to his credit, he did.

We suspect but do not know, the waiter just forgot about our second appetizer.   Then later he totally forgot about our main order.   And while time passed the restaurant and the kitchen got more  busy.  Perhaps he did not have a good rapport with the kitchen, and they ignored him?

Yes I believe it was the waiter's fault, more than the Alexander's.   But as good as the restaurant otherwise may be, I will never return.

My husband and I dined here. We ordered the Pan Seared Sea Scallops, and, Roasted Garlic and Brie Cheese for our appetizers, and Chicken Florentine, and the day's special, which was Halibut with Risotto, for our entree. Our favorite out of these dishes were the Scallops and the Chicken. The pasta in  the Chicken Florentine was quite delicious as well.

One minor disappointment was that their dessert items come from Extraordinary desserts, and Tiramisu was not the traditional Tiramisu but in a cake format. Don't get me wrong, I DO enjoy items from the Extraordinary Desserts, but I was hoping that I could eat something more authentic.

I would come back here regardless, though. I enjoyed the meal, the decor was beautiful, and the waiters were friendly but courteous.

Beautiful decor. Romantic, candlelight setting. Friendly, attentive service. Delicious food. This is a great date place to take someone special.

Started off with some delish champagne. Then the Burrata & Prosciutto Salad. Then the Linguine di Kathleen & the Tuscan Seafood Pasta for our entrees. Everything was delicious. The seafood pasta was yummy and overflowing with generous servings of perfectly cooked seafood. The neighboring table ordered pizza, which looked delicious as well. I guess that's my excuse to go back!

Service was superb as usual and very accommodating despite the fact that we were 15 minutes past our reservation time!

We're big on trying and sampling different items so this time around we went with the following:

    Tri-Citrus Pan Seared Sea Scallops
    Le Tigre Shrimp
Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad
    The White Room Pizza

Everything was beyond amazing but the shrimp were my fave! They give you garlic bread so it's a great way to sop up the brauce (my word for broth and sauce) at the bottom of the bowl!

The thing that I love most about this restaurant is that is gives a sexy and romantic ambiance without taking itself too seriously. It isn't stuffy and the noise level is just right. Can't wait to come back!

2.5 stars really.  The additional half star is for the $14 corkage fee.  One of the cheapest around town.  Awesome.

Had dinner here on a Wednesday night.  The food was nothing special and in fact, overpriced for what you get.  Here is a breakdown of our meal:

** White Room Pizza - chicken, ricotta, mozzarella, garlic, basil and pesto.  It was dry, not enough ricotta.  The crust was hard and there wasn't a lot of flavor.
** Pan Seared Scallops - 3 scallops for $13.  This was the best dish we had.  Although one of the pieces was undercooked.
**Cesar Salad - okay, I love me some cesar salad.  The lettuce looked/tasted like it had been bathing in the dressing for too long.  I don't know if it was pre made  or if our server took too long to get it to our table.  I'll compare it the the delicious cesar salad at BLAH.. complete with white anchovies and everything.  This was not even on the same level.  How hard is it to put together a great cesar salad?

This was my second visit and I don't think I'll be returning.  Even if it is just a few blocks away.

Dinner here was so-so.  I would really only give it 2.5 stars, but not a choice on the star chart.  Let me say right away the service was amazing.

I was a little taken aback by the presentation of the Burrata salad.  If the chef is reading this, here is the Wikipedia definition of Burrata:

Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese, made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella while the inside contains both mozzarella and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. It is also defined by some sources as an outer shell of mozzarella filled with butter or a mixture of butter and sugar. It is usually served fresh, at room temperature. The name "burrata" means "buttered" in Italian.

The Burrata here looked like it had been served to another table, and we got the leftovers off their plate.   A couple of tablespoons of the middle of the mozzerella ball and no outer layer.  Why did you mess with my Mozzarella Ball?   The spinach was less than fresh in the dish also.  Would have been tolerable if the Burrata had been left in it's original state as all the other restaurants I have had it in do.

My Pasta was oversauced.  I realize that in the U.S. we like more sauce than in Italy, but I don't want my pasta floating around in a pool of sauce in the bottom of the bowl.  Maybe you felt bad that my Burrata did not have enough Burrata so you gave me more sauce for my pasta?

Pricey....but that was expected.  I just expected a classier food presentation.

Been a fan of Old Venice for years so naturally the expectation for Alexander's was up there.  We had an 8:15 reservation for 4 but when we arrived there were no tables yet available. Luckily there were at least 2 seats at the bar for us, of course you are knee knocking the next guy over if you even slighlty swiveled one way or the other.  So there is absolutely NO standing room in the joint and I felt badly for the couple having dinner closest to the bar next to us.  We were literally in their personal space, I could have leaned over and grabbed a bite off her fork...

The decor is tasteful, similar to Old Venice.  However the quaintness of the place I think is what keeps people sitting for so long..."Come on eat up and get out so we can get seated too!"  We finally were seated by 8:45 and at least the staff was apologetic for the wait.

Prices are very reasonable and the food quality is excellent. The Linguini Vongole is the best I've had for this level of restaurant.

When the bill came they had forgotten to transfer our bar tab, minutes later the server came back with the bar tab and apologized that it had not yet been added to the bill.  I remarked with a wink, "Oh we thought it had been comp'd for the long wait on our reservation".  The bar tab was not added to our bill.... Excellent all around!

Busy, Busy Friday night, and when we called ahead for a last minute table just before 8pm, Tyler said to come on down, plenty of seats, and even if they fill up, they'll get us seated. True to his word, 10 minutes later when we arrived, we got a patio table. It was a really cold night, and the heat lamp wasn't turned up high enough for my taste, but there were others out there, so I was cool (pardon the pun). My one regret in not speaking up was that my hot food was INSTANTLY cold upon serving, so that was a big bummer. I really hate cold food when it's meant to be hot.

Anyway, the server was amazing (wish I remembered her name) and was very quick and attentive despite the crowd. I had the mahi mahi, which came with the most divine mashed potatoes (oh, if only they were hot!)  My sister had the chicken piccata, which she said was wonderful.

Great wine list (yummy Argentine Malbec, thank you) and the cheese board was so-so (only because I think cheese boards should have a few types of cheese, not just one, as this did) but we still enjoyed it.

Dessert menu was so unappealing, and I can tell you that my sister RARELY turns down dessert, that we didn't order anything. They should step this up a bit: the menu is so great, but the finish is a letdown.

Can't wait to come back for more. Prices are a bit over the top, but I'll reserve final judgement on that after I've tried a few more items. Maybe it was just because my food was cold... and I was bitter(ly cold).

Love the all-white decor; it kind of transports you to another place once you step inside. I imagine the outdoor patio would be romantic and comfortable on a summer's night.

Great atmosphere, very clean, excellent wait staff and amazing food!  I really enjoyed my Baked Vodka Bolognaise and my husband loved his Tuscan Seafood Pasta!  WE both enjoyed our salads (30th Street Salad & Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad) but they were both on the big side and I would have been happy with half the amount of salad for half the price...that being said, we did really enjoy them!!!  I will return to this restaurant for sure!!!

Soooo good!! Used Groupon on the day it was to expire, 11/30. Made a reservation for 7 but because of the awful parking in this 'hood, we didn't make it in until about 7:10-7:15 and they still had our table held!!! Not to mention, there were people waiting for a table and the place was packed! Thanks, guys...that made me feel special!

My friend and I were super impressed with the cuteness of this place and the whole 'white everything' vibe. We may have been the only non-white items in the joint- but I digress- the ambiance was fantastic.

Our server was very sweet and attentive and the owner even came over and chatted us up for a sec. I joked that I hated something(can't remember what now) and he was about to go correct it right then! Had to tell him I was kidding-gotcha! Anyway, I didn't know he was the owner until I went to the restroom and saw his cute little face in mag articles.

Okay, the food---yummmmmmooooo!! I ordered the lasagna and I can't remember what my friend ordered because my lasagna was out of this world delicious!!! Bubbly, cheesy, perfectly cooked noodles, meat sauce just sweet enough...I could go on and on. Their bread was pretty good, nothing memorable, Pinot was on point and the dessert was awful(some sort of hard a** cookie with ice cream on top). We couldn't eat the dessert but did I mention the lasagna??!!

I am giving 4 stars because my overall experience on this crazy busy Tuedsay night was very positive...we both declared that we would be back and we would bring some more girls with us!

My first time eating here. The light and cool contemporary decor leads one to think  that the food will be modern Italian but what they do is old style, a bit heavy Italian food. Shared a baked brie and garlic app, just okay (brie was melted but  not served warm, garlic head was kind of roasted but not the brown caramelized way I usually prepare it and so not as tasty. Hard to eat, thank goodness each table gets bread we  used for this dish.  Main courses were better, fish of the day on risotto  which was very well seasoned and tasty. Home made pasta was great as well, both were big, heavy portions. Dessert was really good, homemade cookie with gelato on top, yum.
Service was quick and very friendly with no issues.
Only three stars because in the end it was good but not special, no wow factor (except for big portions), being an East Coaster by  birth, Italian food has to really be something special to wow me.

Warm summer nights are my all-time favorite cliche romantic scenarios. Alexander's is my all-time favorite romantic restaurant. If those two ever happened at the same time, which I'm surprised hasn't yet, then I might just end up proposing to whoever I'd be dining with at the time. Be it dining with friends or new friends, or lovers or semi-lovers, I always feel so warm and fuzzy eating here. Their patio is quaint, but beautiful. Food is great - try the mussels and Theodore's Fix pizza. The staff is always so nice, and make the overall dining experience wonderful.

Why is everything so frickin' WHITE?
My eyes!  MY EYES BE BURNING!!!!

As a child of darkness, this place was what you humans would call "Hell" for me.

On a glorious evening, I wore a short black dress and walked arm-in-arm with my date into this quaint, romantic restaurant.  Me, dressed in all black (of course), did not fit into this madness.  I felt like I needed to come back, do a Michael Jackson transformation and then sit down next to the window like a porcelain doll.  But, I digress.

We ordered some red wine (insert evil grin here), and I "accidentally" spilled from red wine on the tablecloth just to add some color.  Well, it turns out that these smart people actually realized that they couldn't afford to clean white tablecloths daily, so they actually just covered the table with expensive butcher paper.

I opened up my napkin and GROSS, I find some stains on it from the previous whore who was enjoying her mussels (I licked it just to be absolutely sure).  I thought it tasted fine, so I ordered the green lip steamed mussels, and pigged out :P

Then for the main course, I rubbed my date's leg a bit to make sure he was still into me and would pay for the expensive meal: Filet mignon and the special of the day- lobster pasta dish... hehe  I'm pretty sure he just puked a little bit when he saw what I did there.

Anyway, I played some more footsie before ordering another glass of wine, and then realized in my drunken stupor (I had taken a shot before the date) that I forgot to wear underwear- oopsie!  I was whispering to my date how I had forgotten something "below the waist- wink wink" and next thing I know, two other tables around us were peering their pervert ears our way.  The noise level is pretty terrible; the walls echo and bounce every booming laughter and annoying cough, so even the slightest whisper ended up sounding like I was using the megaphone :(

Back to the food: so the food came out, and my filet was smothered in inedible sauce, so I ate about two pieces and offered the rest to my date, but the lobster special was great.  The wholesome pieces of the crustacean was heavenly, and the tomato-based sauce wasn't too overpowering.  I just wish I had more of that and less of the beef, but hell, you can't have everything you want in life.

Overall, a great experience if you're looking for something cute and romantic and relatively cheap.  The area sucks balls, but if you want to go out afterwards, Bar West it up, baby!  i heard they have chicks with no underwear!!    :-O

It's all about the baked bolognaise....

Alexander's is the sister restaurant of Old Venice in Point Loma.  So you'll see the same white and romantical interior, with some similar dishes if not the same.  I was happy to see they offered the baked vodka bolognaise just like OV because it was soooo deeelish over there!

Came here for my birthday with 22 friends.   A little worried that this quaint place wouldn't be able to accommodate my large party, but was pleased to see they reserved the back patio for us.  Great in the afternoon, but in the evening it got dark to the point we couldn't see a lot of what we were eating haha   But they had heat lamps and little lights strung around for ambiance.

*complimentary garlic bread and sauce just like OV.

*Vodka baked bolognaise was yummy here too, great sauce and cheesy.  Actually wouldn't have minded more cheese!!!!

*Tossed Spicy Linguine Pasta, Manila Clams, White Wine, Garlic & Pancetta- nice, light flavor.  Seemed like a mix of fresh clams and canned clams underneath, so you def. taste the clams.  I"m not an expert with clam dishes since I never order them, but I thought this was good.

All my friends said they enjoyed their dishes, though I'm not sure what they ordered.

Alexander's deserves 4 stars because the food is good and our waitress was so nice and attentive to our large party.  She automatically brought out candles, extra plates and forks, and split our checks by each table instead.
***Keep in mind:  there is a cake cutting fee***

My only gripe would be the white cushions outside that we sat on.  They looked all poopy stained.  Those def. need to be changed or bleached,  I ended up sitting on my napkin the whole time.

Love the dance music you have in the uniex bathrooms... *fist pumping while peeing*

Made a reservation for 6:30 on a Friday night.  Seated promptly.  The ambience at this place is AMAZING!!  All whites with candles and subdued lighting.  Our server (wish I had asked her name) was from NY...she was fabulous!!  Hubby had spaghetti and turkey meatballs - I had the Kathleen pasta - daughter had pasta and cousin had Chicken Florentine.  Each meal was delicious!!  It was really a "magical" evening...time between appetizers, wine and entree was PERFECT.  We never felt rushed or hurried.  Creme brule for dessert as the best I've had.  I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!!!

I really like the atmosphere at Alexander's, especially how it's candle lit.  It's contemporary, chic and very romantic. However, I would change the colors of the flowers to a pale pink - the white interior can be a little too much and it needs to be balanced.  It's a great place to come with a few friends or bring a date.  On the other hand, it's not a good place to bring a large group - people start to stare and the servers become less and less attentive.

I love their Seafood Pasta and The White Room Pizza. I've never had roasted garlic on my pizza before but it is so delicious!  The garlic and the pesto sauce is an interesting combination and it just melts in your mouth.  Also, you should probably take a few breathe mints after eating this pizza or you might just scare off your date.

Came here with a party of 20+ or so. And you would think that having such a big party that the service would not be as great because the largeness of the group would affect the timeliness of the service. But the staff here at Alexander's pulled it off.

Beer...sure...just because you're not in the mood for some wine, doesn't mean that you are limited to those choices, and yes they have several beers for serving. And for the complimentary bread...very good!

I chose the Baked Vodka Bolognaise for my meal. Very hot, when they served it. I liked it a lot. Spicy as well with their sauce and the spicy sausage. http://www.yelp.com/bi... I wouldn't have mind if the plate was a little bit bigger.

And the staff were accommodating and got us candles for the birthday girl Bernadette M. for this evening. They went above and beyond on service. They also had no problem with splitting the checks into the respective tables especially with 20+ people during this evening.

We were seated outside, so they were pretty cool with turning on the heat lamps. The only negative thing about sitting outside are the "weathered" look to the seat cushions. "Weathered" is sugar-coating it and it was more like dirty and stuff. Oh well. With a big group, the outdoor seating was the only choice.

And as for the unisex bathroom, expect long lines as well as a nice techno-rave atmosphere inside.

My boyfriend was like, "Hey girl, it's Friday, you don't gotta work, let me take you out on a date."
How could I resist such sexy request?
"Yess! Yes! Where are you taking me!?"
    "Uh...I haven't figured it out."

I suggested Alexander's and it did not disappoint.

We had made a reservation but they were really packed that night. The host apologized and got us our table as soon as he could which technically was about 20 minutes after our scheduled reservation. No biggie, I can wait, the smell was just so intense I didn't want to leave anywhere. I could wait all night for this.

We had the roasted garlic and brie, which are two things that are in my top 20 list of favorite things, the brie being in my top 5 favorite cheeses. Wow it was like the Pixar flick "Ratatouille"  there were fireworks going off!

Upon looking through the menu, I was torn between the walnut gorgonzola pasta or the pink penne. I asked our server which one she liked best and she suggested the pink penne paired with a Sonoma pinot noir. I loved every second of it! The pink penne full of flavors it was a very rich and creamy pasta, the wine helped mellow the intense flavor down a bit. It was a quite fruity, but not overwhelmingly fruity, and smooth.

That meal was definitely outstanding and the service, remarkable. I am definitely coming back to try the walnut gorgonzola pasta!

I've driven by this place countless times and promised myself I'd try it one day.  Lucky for me, that day arrived.  This place is a swank (all the decor is white) yet quaint little restaurant in the less obnoxious part of North Park.

The service was good, they never made us feel rushed, and the food was pretty delicious.  I had the pink penne pasta which was flavorful and plentiful.

The dishes are a little on the pricier side but well-made.

Wow - I really loved this place!  The decor was shabby chic and just my style.  There were many pieces I wish I had for my house and the flowers were just gorgeous!  The service was very friendly and helpful with suggestions.  The food was amazing - the pastas were fresh and very flavorful...plus reasonably priced!

Host at the door was very accommodating for our group of 7 with no reservation, love the white and candlelight ambiance, food was delish, not a full bar, waitress didn't seem happy to be working there :( I wish the portion were a bit bigger because the flavors where awesome! I had the seafood pasta which was delish!

Apparently my review was too long, so here's the short version:

Stuffed into a cramped table by the bar and in the walkway to the kitchen, sent back a "medium " fillet that was bleeding and grazing on The Wifes salad only to get another raw steak back.  Excellent server.  The Wife said the pesto scallops were "good"

    Won't be going back.

A solid four stars.. The tri-citrus scallops for an appetizer was amazing. They were plump and juicy and seared to perfection; not overcooked.

I have to throw out a special thanks. Our waiter was honest and really earned my respect. I was about to order the mac and cheese, and I asked him if it was good. He hesitated and very graciously mentioned that it's the one thing on the menu that he feels they haven't gotten right yet. I give mad props for his honest opinion. Most places just tell you everything is good and then I never go back.

He suggested something else, the Vodka Bolognese and I was thrilled. It was excellent!

    I'll definitely be back.

The place has a really quaint and romantic vibe - we were seated at a cozy corner table. We started by splitting the beet and goat cheese salad - it was delicious. I had the pesto scallop entree, which was incredible. My bf had the tuscan seafood pasta and really enjoyed that as well. Good wine list. Only quirky thing- I agree with some other reviews- random music choices for the rest of the aesthetic of the place.
Overall, we left feeling happy and full- perfect little date night.

Ive been here twice.  The first time, the service was awful and lead me with no desire to ever come back.....until my friend bought a Groupon.  So why not?  Second time's a charm I guess because the service was a lot better. I wish I remembered her name.

My friends and I shared the brie w/ roasted garlic app, baked rigatoni and the Cherry Bomb pizza.  The brie was good - but what brie ISN'T good?  I'm not sure the reason for the roasted garlic bulb on the side but it adds some flavor to the otherwise muted brie.  I DO think they should serve slices of chewy, crispy bread on the side, not the large chuck of garlic bread that ends up being handled by your entire table because it's not cut at all.

I only tried the rigatoni which was supposed to be spicy but my friends did not think it was.... on to the pizza. My fave.

Mozzarella, turkey meatballs, Pecornino.. menu says buffala mozz but it wasn't, according the cheese connoisseurs at my table.  Nonetheless, it was delish. The crust not too thin, but a good combo of crispy/chewy. GOod amounts of toppings as well.. overall.. very good and worth bringing home for left overs.

I'll be coming back... hopefully next time on a date because the ambiance is very romantical.

This is my new favorite Italian place in SD! I love love love the decor in the restaurant. With the flowers and white furniture, it feels like you're on an indoor picnic inside the secret garden. Paired with a bottle of wine, it's the perfect date spot. The dishes are tasty and not heavy. Love it!

Alexanders is a neighboorhood gem!  The decor is georgous in a swanky white.  I went 3 times in a month im so addicted.  The funny thing is that im not a big Italian fan but a huge fan of this place.  So far Shannon was the best server I have had there.  Very attentive and always had a smile on her face.  The roasted garlic and brie is unreal and perfect if you love cheese.  I get it everytime and want it when I go home and for breakfast the next day...lol  The spicy cesear is very good and not fishy at all.  I just wish it came with a lemon wedge since I love my cesears lemony :)  The pizzas are great and they have specials on them on monday nights which makes the place packed.  But its obvious people want to come to eat the good food.  I have had the gorgonzola and walnut pasta due to fellow yelpers raving about it.  I liked it but found it a bit heavy.  But it is really good!

I prefer to sit in a booth because it makes it a bit more private otherwise it can get a little loud in there.  Otherwise you will be overhearing a couple gay boys talk about politics then skinny boys grinding on "bears" really loud and as much as i love my gays unless im in the conversation, i wanted to have my own and be able to hear it as well...lol

Thats all folks.  I will be back. again and again....

We really enjoyed this restaurant.  There were six of us with reservation on a Saturday night and we got a great table at the front of the room next to the window.  The neighborhood is up and coming but the restaurant is very well decorated with white table cloths, fresh flowers, and low lighting, just a nice ambiance.  The food was excellent.  We ordered a few dished of all different types, starters, salad, pizza, pasta and meats, all were excellent.  There's a couple of us who are foodies who cook quite a bit and we love good food.  All were happy with the food here.  The service was excellent, our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive and professional.  I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Husband calls me at work to ask me out on a date - Yes! - AND he made reservations at Alexander's. I'm in heaven.

Eric, our server, was wonderful with suggestions and service. More often than not, the server can really make (or break) your dining experience, and he definitely added to our evening - thank you!

Food was excellent: beet and goat cheese salad, meat lasagna and Kathleen's pasta - all wonderfully fresh, strong flavours.

Corkage was only $12; which is what it should be, but so often it is so much higher. Thank you, Alex, for being a reasonable man.

True, we enjoyed a romantic evening, but know that a large group (guys and dolls) were thoroughly enjoying their time as well - so know it's a great atmosphere whatever your mood is!
