Review from Aditya R.
I love AMA! I'm certainly someone who has no interest whatsoever in how a car works. If my car isn't working, I open the hood with the hope that I can see something severely wrong like the battery missing or the engine pipes spewing out liquid in all directions!
AMA has come to my rescue on three occasions, over the last two years. Once was when my block heater wasn't working and it was after a great winter night of -30ºC when they came to fix it. On two occasions, I've left my keys in the car!!! LOL .. yes, how pathetic, I know! But apart from that, they're useful for other more serious emergencies like a car breakdown on the highway or punctured tires etc. etc. I would never drive a car without AMA! (Back in US it was AAA).
Now, this location is particularly good because they have a travel store with travel books and what not, including AAA, CAA and local AMA periodicals, roadtrip guides etc. for North America (maybe even Europe, not sure). All their guides are free for members so it's great. They're not like out of the world stuff, but they're good to carry with you if you're going on a roadtrip - for sure! I remember planning a roadtrip in the Appalachians (eastern US) from their store.
They have a host of other facilities like registry, international travel insurance etc. Have never used them, but would certainly go there before trying another place. For car insurance, I don't use AMA/CAA because there are certainly cheaper options; but for $65 a year, their roadside assistance program is great!
Staff are helpful and knowledgeable.Listed in: Do you drive?

We were members from 2005 through 2010. We used our membership for discounted movie tickets and the occasional slightly lower hotel rate.
One winter's night in 2009, my wife locked herself out of the car in a deserted parking lot in a neighbouring town. She called the AMA hotline and spent half an hour on hold in the freezing cold before hanging up and calling me in a panic. She ended up taking shelter with my young son, and I picked them up an hour later.
Her angry question when I arrived was, "Why are we paying $120 a year when they don't even answer the phone when I really need them."
Why, indeed. It was a waste of over $500. -

Just wanted to give full props to AMA for being amazing.
I joined back in March to get a discount on their new driver program, and signed up for insurance through them a few weeks ago on my first car. They made navigating the policies painless and having a free coffee machine onsite didn't hurt either.
When I registered my vehicle, I did it through AMA's in-house registry. The wait was short, the clerk was possibly the only cheerful, friendly registry clerk I've ever seen in my life, and it was a great experience.
On the way out the door, I stopped at AMA's map 'store' to load up on supplies for my new car. Sure, I had to 'check' the maps out via a system similar to the library's, but they were all free because I had a membership. Yay!
When, two weeks later, a crummy driver ran a yield sign and rammed into my lovely new car, AMA told me what to do. Their tow truck arrived in no time at all and gave my vehicle a complimentary lift to the police station. The driver hung around, and I paid about $10 in mileage to take the car clear across town to a collision shop.
By coincidence, the other driver and I both went through AMA and resolving the accident dispute was easy. AMA called often and the adjustors really seemed to care about my physical condition, and that of my car. And the adjustor of the man at fault went above and beyond for me, ensuring that the insurance on my complimentary rental vehicle would be taken care of by AMA.
I'm so glad I chose to go with AMA when it comes to my vehicle. The customer service has been exceptional across the board and I'm definitely satisfied by their actions in my time of need. -

I've been an AMA member since I was 16. Needless to say it's been a while.
I've used AMA's roadside assistance on numerous occasions, from needing a tow, locking my keys in my car (done this too many times to count) and boosting, AMA has been there. They also provide drivers training. I took drivers training years ago and feel it helped me tremendously and is a must for every new driver (whether you admit it or not).
We've used their travel services a few times and have been impressed with the quality of service provided. We've used AMA to book cross continent flights to B&B's on the west coast. If it wasn't for AMA I would have no idea where to start.
Being an AMA member also provides you discounts on a number of entertainment options. The one we used the most is discounted movie tickets which are usually around half the cost of paying right at the theatre. You can also purchase concession packages.
I use AMA's registry services as well for vehicle registration, business registration, birth certificates, NUAN searches, etc. They also provide insurance and mortgages.
The Kingsway AMA has recently built a new building and am loving their bright, airy open concept. Plus my friend works there!
The membership fee seems to go up every year. However, peace of mind certainly comes into play when it comes to travel and getting a few perks with your membership, like discounts, makes it OK in my eyes.
