Review from Paul W.
There are very few sneakerheads in my hometown, so this kind of store doesn't exist there. Thought I'd check out the store as I was walking through the university campus.
First thing that struck me on entering is how spic and span the store was. Something about it just "pops". And the store isn't jam packed with stuff, either. It makes you feel like every item in there is hand picked and just waiting for you to check it out.
A few of the reviews commented on lack of customer service. I'm a little surprised by this. I'm the type of guy that just likes a greeting when I enter a store, and then to be left alone unless I ask for something. That was totally my experience at AKIN. There's nothing worse for me than being followed around the store having some guy pushing stuff on me. Anyway, this was my experience...the staff were friendly when I approached them but otherwise left me to look around.
As fas as merchandise, they have a lot of nice gear. Lots and lots of shoes, mostly men's with some women's shoes also. The shoes are the big deal about the store and I don't know enough about them to accurately describe what they have. Also a lot of nice t-shirts, many of them the store's own brand. Prices also seemed very reasonable.
Overall, I'm giving this store 5 stars because it just really impressed me. It's a boutique with sick gear that has it's own unique flavour. I wish I lived in a city with more of these smaller boutiques and less giant chains. The anti-foot locker.
Sneakerheads obviously know about this place already. For everyone else, if you like some sporty gear that's trendy and unique then check this place out. I wouldn't take you dad here to shop, but for the trendy urban shopper I would give it a try. -

I'm giving Akin 5 stars due to the friendly service I have received from them everytime I do go down there. They have a good selection of NSW, which is why I go. They were also kind enough to hold a pair of Yellow tennis ball hypermax for me till I got down there.
Good job Akin. Keep up the good work. -

Only sneakerheads welcome?
This shop has a great location, a great setup, decent kicks and decent street wear. I was pretty excited to stop in for the first time, but was very disappointed by my experience there. I couldn't even tell who worked there because no one said hello. Everyone just stared. The only time I was actually spoken to was after about 10 mins and the guy behind the register told me about a deal they were having.
My advice to the owners is to train the people who work there to at least say hello to the customers because I would like to see this place stay in business. I just don't see how akin expects to be successful without some type of decent customer service. I felt awkward and unwelcome.
Hopefully, this review is taken into consideration, because as of right now, I'd rather buy online than spend my money at this store. -

This store lacks customer service. I came on on a weekday afternoon a couple of weeks after their grand opening. There were about 4 employees behind or next to the counter talking amongst themselves. They saw me walk in but didn't acknowledge me by any sort of greeting, just went back to their conversation. Pretty snobby move since I was the only person who didn't work there. To get some decent service, I probably would of have to been one of their friends or a fellow beastie.

Stopped by this place a week after their grand opening. Nice spot, good selection of shoes and apparel. Although they didn't have what I was looking for, but I'm sure their status will grow to the point that they will be carrying the limited releases that everyone is looking for. It's also a big space with a good selection of gear other than Nike. Staff was really friendly and easygoing. If they keep up their nice selection and good customer service, I don't see them leaving the scene anytime soon.

I stopped by the grand opening with my boyfriend as he's a lover of streetwear and both of us were absolutely impressed! The store is big and spacey, with a great selection! There's a little something for everyone and we spent 1.5 hours there picking out shoes and some t-shirts for him! The staff is friendly and the best part is that there's space to enjoy your shopping experience unlike other smaller, more compact stores in the city.

In a nutshell, decent product in store... but TERRIBLE customer service. I went there on my birthday in May just to do a little shopping and was not greeted once by the two asians who were working and the one white guy who was there. The white dude was one of those hipster looking douche bags who acted like it was such an inconvenience to speak with another person which is probably why he didn't bother saying hi to me the multiple times we crossed paths in the store. He also had the nerve to roll his eyes at me when i asked to see and try on a pair of eggplan foamposites and looked really upset when i decided not to buy them. The asian guy with the glasses was nice, only when he was spoken to. And the other random employee there was throwing a ball against the walls of the store not bothering anybody. Overall i think the store is in a great location, provides nice product, but if you compare it to places like RSVP gallery, Leaders, St. A's and other places in Chicago, this Akin is def. bottom of the barrel. A couple lessons in customer service would do this store some good.

Well, it looks like what I have to say is well worn territory and I hope someone is paying attention to this. The product is great. The location works for them. But the customer service is appalling. I have been in several times and the only reason I am not buying a shoe is because I can't get adequate help. They can't keep a size 12 in stock to save their lives and all I have gotten is a blank stare when asked if I could order the size. I have been willing to pay up front and have been told they are not ordering anymore of that particular shoe. It this just crazy to me? They have carried a boot for two years that I have wanted and I have been snuffed by them for the second year in a row yesterday. If this location wants to survive and sell some shoes I would suggest getting some informed functioning staff and lose the "to good for you" hipsters.

One Sunday I stopped over in the Univrsity village to get grab a shake from the ice scream shop across the street. Parked the car and while walking looked over and noticed all the sneakers through the window. It was a Sunday so I thought they were closed. As I'm looking through the window drooling at the selection I realize they're open. I walk in and instantly fall in love. Selection of shoes is hot and will please the Nike and Jordan heads. Selection of tees is pretty good, the staff is really cool, and the layout is extra clean and spacious. One of my new fav stores. Parking on the street is often hard to find but there's a garage not even a block away with really cheap rates. Keep it up guys!
