Great little place, as evidenced by the full house almost every evening now. They have some excellent specialty rolls, the crazy boy roll is my fave.

I feel like everyone knows about this place and how amazing the food is.

My boyfriend and my family always come to eat whenever we are craving sushi (mind you, we crave it a lot) because we know that it will never be a disappointment.

I'm considering myself a professional sushi connoisseur because in my lifetime, I've had sushi quality from the entire spectrum; from horrible to fricking-ohmygod-fantastic. At Akasaka, I've had basically everything on the menu (sushi-wise) and haven't been let down. I have yet to claim a favourite dish, so I'll be judging the restaurant by the whole menu. The sushi portions are perfect - not too much rice nor too little rice. The avocado is ripe and bright green - not brown and gross like some restaurants. The sashimi is sooo fresh and portions are huge! The tempura is great as well. Also, they present their food on really pretty plates which I guess is always a fun bonus.

The ambiance is like every sushi restaurant - nothing super special about it. It's clean, they have Asian music in the background, typical. The service is great, they are very attentive and whenever you press the little "I need something" button, they are there and pleased to help you with whatever you need.

All in all, whenever I'm in Surrey, I will always have to make a stop here for fine sushi. If anyone else is in town, don't hesitate to stop by, i highly recommend it.

From the outside, I have to admit- looked a little sketchy to me... But, as always- you should judge what you see on the outside.. The inside was surprisingly pretty nice.

I apologize, I failed as a true Yelper to take photos- shame on me...

I came here with a large group of my friends (about 16 of us). Luckily, we had our own private room, complete with our own private patio.

Service was excellent. Our server was very efficient and accommodating.

Our orders and bills came out perfect- No complaints at all.

I ordered a Spicy Salmon roll with brown rice (another bonus), A Chicken Teriyaki Donburi for my little guy and a Power of Love roll for my Hubbie. Total Bill : $26.

Pretty sweet, right? That's what we thought.

Great Service, Great food, Great Price = Happy People!

YAY I love this place! You have to go. They have a ton of private little booths and a huge menu. I love their French kiss roll. May not be good if your on a diet, lol but you should try!
They are always so fast and friendly there. Prices are excellent, for the value. Everything is fresh and just so yummy. Trust me, you wont be disappointed.

In a block full of sushi places, definitely NOT the best. Hanako is hands down the best sushi place in the Guildford area.

Akasaka or the old Shoji when I was growing up as a teen (and actually worked in the kitchen of) is in kind of a hidden location (used to be great across from the Guildford Cinema), and is nice-ish when you go inside, there are nice spaces and lots of rooms to eat in. It does kind of smell tho.

I'm a sushi guy, and I love Korean food too, but the idea of melding the two together sucks. The Japanese food at this type of place (and I'm not talking about making Japarean food - just talking about a place that makes both - kind of like the KFC/Taco Bell - you never get the best of either world).

Actually I can talk about not getting the best of the Japanese world - not sure about the Korean side of things because this place was full of Koreans during the lunch hour - many ordering Korean dishes - so maybe Korean is the way to go here.

I got a box lunch here, and really it's based around one big roll you get to choose from. Basically all the rolls available for the box I got are cali rolls with something added to make it sound really good. IE: slapping a little extra avocado on to make it a "dragon roll" etc.

The other pieces of it are very run of the mill and I could've saved myself a couple bucks and got the same quality at another Japanese joint.

Just pay a couple more bucks and go to Hanako to get their box - it is one of the best I've had - especially at a non-Japanese owned and run resto.

With the choices available in the neighborhood ...

    I will NOT RETURN.

This is the spot my family and I go to whenever we want an Asian inspired family dinner. They've got a large selection of sushi, as well as teriyaki, lunch/dinner boxes, and Korean BBQ. Sitting in the rooms is good for groups and makes for a private dining experience, especially when you're a messy eater like I am.

The specialty rolls I find pretty delicious, but for the larger and more creative rolls, the prices do push past the $10 mark. Still, I remember the French Kiss roll (which I remember had tobiko, cream cheese, and scallops) was like a creamy explosion in my mouth (intended? yes.) A standout for me is always the seafood teriyaki, which combines pieces of salmon, scallops, clams, and shrimp together with sprouts and rice ontop of a sizzling hot plate. The salmon is always melt-in-my-mouth yummy. The boxes are alright; they're a little bit pricier that what you would find elsewhere and you don't get anything fantastic, so I'd go for one of dishes or rolls on its own. Also, I don't know if they do this anymore but they give you an appetizer for free, whether it be edamame or suonomo soup.

The staff are very friendly and the place has an overall comfortable atmosphere. Akasaka is like a reliable friend to me and my family's dinner needs.

If you like Japanese quisine, this place is terrific. The Chef's have their specials which we allways look forward to but they have a wide choice to compliment anybody's taste's and the service is solid.Love the intimate touch of the private rooms but the prices are a little steep ! the old adage of "you get what you pay for" is true here.

I ordered two yam and avocado rolls for take-out today. I was really craving this today and instead of going to the sushi place across the street from me, which is mediocre, I decided to take a chance on Akasaka because I had heard someone before say that this place was good. But it didn't turn out that way for me. I drove ten minutes out of my way and brought it home and found the yam to be undercooked. It was hard still. I called in to let them know and the woman said she could give me a credit and then rushed to get me off the phone. I tried to ask more questions about how the credit worked but she didn't want to get into the details. We'll see what happens when I try to redeem the credit. I'll be sure to mention that I want the yam cooked!

Delicious and fresh. Nice atmosphere. Interesting lunch boxes and creative rolls. Try the Washington Roll: similar to a California roll but with avocado and salmon sashimi on top!
