This is one japanese place that have decent food in the mall.
Not bad and it use to be a place that I was always go to when i'm at aberdeen.
But this place has kinda gone down here a bit cause they raised the place and the food isn't as great as it use to be.
I usually get yakisoba. -

The pork/vegetable dumplings were much better than the seafood udon. Soup was kinda bland, guess i should've added that seasoning salt lol but not sure if it was an option like a dedicated ramen place. the seafood portions weren't that generous, dinky little clams, but plenty of mushrooms and sprouts. guess that's sorta healthy.
altogether, $14. kinda a high-roller here, huh? ;)
But hey, for food court, it's about what to expect. at least it's nice-looking, japanese characters to make it authentic somewhat haha. -

I had the Cha suu miso ramen for $7.10. I was somewhat disappointed. First, the actual product isn't exactly like the display sample. The display shows this ramen with 2 slices of Cha suu, Japanese mushrooms & green onions. The actual product comes with half an egg, corn, no mushrooms, and bean sprouts. I don't like bean sprouts so it kind of ruined the dish for me. Also, the Cha suu was very chewy, which was another disappointment because I'm used to Cha suu in ramen melting in my mouth.
Overall, I'd recommend the place next door-Leung Kee-over this place. There's a long line for Leung Kee, but it's well worth it!Listed in: British Columbia Edition

Located in the Aberdeen Centre Food Court.
Takoyaki (6 pieces for $4.95): mushy and starchy but freshly cooked. Some octopus pieces were too chewy. Served with the white and brown sauce and shredded fish.
Overall decent place to grab Japanese snacks. Almost everyone sitting near the food court had Takoyaki balls to share with their friends. -

I've only ever come here for their Yaki Udon. The noodles are consistently chewy and plentiful, and covered in the delicious Japanese mayo, cabbage, dried fish flakes, and pink ginger. I've had my yaki udon with the cha siu (BBQ pork) and soft pork slices, but my all-time favourite is Tonkatsku - crispy breaded pork with a sweet tonkatsu sauce to dip. Yum yum yum!
Maybe next time I come here I'll try their other items like their takoyaki (but not their udon, because I had it once before and it was bland and the udon was lifeless in my mouth). -

In the food court of Aberdeen centre, is an exceptional find. Their yakisoba is amazing. I love their sauce and their ramen noodles are just perfect. I also had their gyoza but it taste like frozen Gyoza from the supermarket. I did not expect much from a food court but it was really good. Must try their yakisoba if you come to this food court. I wish they have this in Toronto.

For some reason I've always gone to just the L side of the food court (as you go up the escalator) at Aberdeen. So on a whim, I decided to check out the R side, and ended up here.
The decor is pretty nice, and looks trendy like most izakaya-type places. I went for the curry udon with tonkatsu. and a side of takoyaki.
The udon was.. bland. You're supposed to eat it with the tonkatsu + sauce, but the curry sauce was quite tasteless. The udon wasn't bad, but could be a bit fresher.
The tonkatsu was actually not bad. Light and breaded, but tasted like something you'd find from the frozen section of a supermarket, next to the fish sticks.
The takoyaki were large and gooey. I always get a kick out of those dry flaky things on top that wave around in the steam.
Maybe the other dishes will be better, but only the takoyaki were worth mentioning. -

My reason for giving this place 5 stars is purely and exclusively the yaki udon. There's a reason this is the specialty: the owner of this place is a graduate of a Japanese "noodle college." It's so good, I can never bring myself to order anything else, except the occasional takoyaki to share if I'm with a few other people. The takoyaki is fine, though not as good as the stuff they make at the Powell Street festival. Still, if you're a fan, it's nice to get it more than once a year.
I have never tried the okonomiyaki. My go-to place for them has always been the Modern Club on Dunbar, but now that I've checked out its Yelp reviews, I feel I need to try it again before I vouch for their quality. It's been a while.
But back to Ajijiman! Before you write them off, I recommend my standard Aberdeen meal: yaki udon, a shared order of takoyaki, beard papa cream puffs for dessert, all backed by the food court's glorious views of the north shore mountains. Heaven... -

Takoyaki and chicken karaage om nom nom nom! One of the only reasons I come to the Aberdeen Centre. Their takoyaki is so so so delicious. Their takoyaki is not as firm and hard on the outside as the other takoyaki I've tried. Now I'm no pro at Japanese food, but I actually prefer my takoyaki this way. That way, it's easier to bite it into small pieces so you can better deal with the scorching hot insides of the takoyaki.
The chicken karaage is crisp, but not hard to chew. It's easy to snack on with a very distinct flavor. Definitely good to eat with rice, but also good to snack on alone.
I love Ajijiman! -

I was excited when I spied the plastic food models on the counter at Ajijiman/Hanabi. They gave me the nostalgic tingles for my English teaching days in Japan, as well as the assurance that "this is what my food will look like."
Anyway, this food stand in the Aberdeen Centre food court focuses on Japanese fried foods like tonkatsu, tempura, and okonomiyaki, and noodles like ramen and udon, and that great crossover dish between the two, fried yakisoba. Still tingly, I ordered a okonomiyaki, which is a eggy pancake thing fried with stuff inside. The woman waited until after I ordered to tell me it would take 10 minutes (!) but I was strangely patient.
When it came, I dove in with great anticipation. The first few bites were all savoury and yummy. Then I remembered how gross it used to look when the thin bonito flakes waved in the slightly breeze, giving them an eerie living feeling. I pushed them aside and took a couple more bites. The middle appeared to have something sticky and oozy ... takoyaki (fried octopus). Yuck. I always hated the sticky fishiness of those things.
None of this was helped along by the really loud, really annoying music being piped through the mall. The fishy taste in my mouth. Gagging, I threw the rest away. An iced can of coffee helped wash down the taste, just barely. I will probably go back to this stand when I'm in the mall, but I'll stick to ramen next time. Maybe the curry. Maybe.Listed in: Irraishaimase!

Having never had okonomiyaki or takoyaki - I decided to try them here on a recommendation from my boyfriend.
So good. So very very very good. -

Like the previous poster I too was excited about seeing okonomiyaki on the menu as okonomiyaki truly reminds me of Japan.
Not a great okonomiyaki but for less than $5.00 CDN what do you expect. The batter was too pancakie (if that's a word). I'm guessing too much flour, not enough cabbage but a massive portion considering the price. We also had the teriyaki chicken sandwich. A little thin on the chicken but it was the special for the day so it included a soda and green tea ice cream. Again, nothing spectacular but massive selection and cheap enough where I don't feel like I got screwed. Next time I go I'll probably try out the katsu curry. The price value equation was pretty good but the quality was so so.
