I have been coming here for my haircut for like 10 years. All stylists come from Japan, so communication can be a challenge. However, it also means that the service standards are very high. They provide a computer station for clients to serf the net while waiting. And the massage chair at the hair wash station is heaven.
As it isvery much a personal preference when it comes to haircut, I can only say that I am very happy with the cuts my stylist (Loco) gives me, while some others I tried (due to vacation of my stylist) were not as good.
However, this place is not cheap, a cut and shampoo will set you back about $45-50. But I think it's worth it. -

I've been going to Air for a while.
My stylist used to be Leo who gives fabulous haircuts.
He had moved from the downtown location to the Richmond one, so I had to commute all the way there to get a haircut which was ok considering I really like the way he cuts my hair and he knows what I want.
But one day I got lazy and didn't have any time to go to Richmond so I decided to get a haircut from some other stylist at Air in downtown.
What a big mistake. I had to pay the price for being lazy.
I know everyone handles hair differently but at least she could have given me the cut I wanted.
I was expressing that I wasn't happy with the cut but she kept insisting that it looked good on me.
It doesn't matter how the stylists feel about their job, if the customer isn't happy then they have failed to do their job properly.
Note to myself, quickly find a stylist who can satisfy my needs and in Vancity or just go back to Leo in Richmond. -

I have been to the Air Hair Salon in downtown Vancouver 2-3 times, and used to get my haircut by Leo. This time since we were staying in Richmond I decided to try this other location. I thought I had passed by the Air Hair Salon inside the Aberdeen Centre, but maybe it moved or was that even a location they had? Anyhow I ended up being 20 minutes late getting to my hair appointment which turns out was 1-2 stops south on the skytrain. This meant that my originally scheduled stylist for "Japanese" style was not going to be available, but they could offer me a "Taiwanese" stylist. I'm not sure what the distinction is other than that the haircut was $3 cheaper. Whatever the case.. I'm happy with the haircut that Summer did. I told her that I wanted a haircut that I could keep as I grow my hair out, and I like bangs and usually straighten them. Fairly simple and straightforward cut, and she delivered all I asked for. The one thing I think was missing was that she didn't do a full blowout/styling with straightening. I'm used to the stylist spending an extra 20-30 minutes to put on that polish so that you feel like the haircut is worth a million bucks when you walk out and can't wait to come back.

okay, i will be honest, i have never had my hair done at this place ... but i did want to say for any germ-phobes out there that this would be the place to go ... i live across the street and the thorough cleaning i see being done on a very regular basis, and not cursory cleaning, like full out lets get this ready for the best cleaning ... i am going to get my hair cut there next time because i am so impressed with their focus on clean when so many places are not ... and i do not think it is that expensive ... the place i usually go down on denman is the same price ...
