Love the AC lounge in YYZ.

Mind you one the last four or five years there has been a very large number of Elite members so it gets rather crowded at peak travel times. The YYZ lounge is a very large lounge compared to the other Maple Leaf Lounges in Canada.

In the morning, grabbing a nice hot cup of coffee, bowl of oatmeal and a banana while loading up my laptop with emails to work on while I'm on the plane has become a weekly habit and there is always lots of great reading material at your fingertips.

Just wish the the TV's were on a national news channel such as FOX or CNN since I'm not a big City TV fan and their news reporting basically sucks on a national level.

I always think the people watching in the lounge is hilarious in the afternoons....love watching the non-regulars load up these tiny places with snacks ! Pretty funny......

All in all YYZ AC Lounge is a favourite in my books.

Pros - ample seating. I haven't had an issue with finding a quiet corner

Cons - don't expect many food options. There's some fruit, toast and not much else. Compared to lounges around the world, such as SQ's Silver Kris lounge in Changi T3 and many others throughout Asia, YVR's Maple Leaf doesn't fare too well.

By airline lounge standards this lounge is adequate. At a minimum I expect comfy chairs, wireless, newspapers and magazines, a nice clean restroom and snacks and drinks. The Maple Leaf Lounge meets my expectations but does not exceed them.

I would never count on the food provided here as my primary source of nourishment. In the evening you might score a bowl of soup, a cookie, an apple or banana and some pretzels, but not much else. Because I never eat airline food I do appreciate that they allow outside food in the lounge (unlike the Red Carpet Lounge in SFO).

This club doesn't announce departures, which is a feature that I wish they had, and their magazines are craptastic, but at the end of the day it beats the heck out of waiting at the gate with the herding masses so it is better than nothing.

So I'm currently a bit torn how to review this... and I came to the conclusion to just put the AC Maple Leaf Lounge up against it's competition here at YVR and not throwing into the worldwide competition... because then I might find it somewhere deep in the drain.

The fact is - there is nothing stellar when it comes to lounges at YVR and certainly not in the domestic portion of our lovely airport. Here I find the MLL well taken care of, paired with the standard assortment of beverages and some snacks. Slogan could be: 'The competition is low - Let's stay low too!' Same goes for the transborder part: With the Alaska Airlines Board Room as competition there is not much pressure on them so I'm thankful for the clean and (hopefully) quiet environment

Over at the international terminal the situation is a little different. Air Canada (and their Star Alliance partners) want to lure passengers for the lucrative transpacific and transatlantic market. With only very standard (and in international comparison SUBstandard) offerings I don't really see much pro arguments here for the pre-departure experience. Step it up for heavens sake!!

Only the Cathay Pacific lounge is somewhat respectable, offering fresh dim sum, Moet Champagne and little desserts in their First Class Section. Same minus the Moet in the Business Class partition. JAL seemed to improve as well a bit in the past few months though the crammed little space is far away from being called a lounge or even remotely acceptable. The Plaza Premium Lounge (part of Priority Pass) is sadly almost the better choice when open.

So regarding the Maple Leaf Lounges, I give them 3 Stars. I would have inclined 2.5 and the other half star I give them for the availability of shower facilities for what it's worth. I take the access as part either my Ticket or AC/LH/SQ Star Alliance Membership but would never pay money to access it.

How can I give anything less than 4 stars to a place where I can escape the mayhem of screaming kids and get some free food and drinks? (well, not technically free, but I digress...)

In the world of airport lounges, the AC Maple Leaf ones are very consistent and I'm currently camping out at one as I write this.  I agree with Marc D. that they're mid-range in the grand scheme of lounges, but I quite like the YVR one compared to the other Maple Leaf lounges in Canada.

It's a bit more spacious, divided sections for different purposes, and great glass viewing area.  Drinks and food selection is the same at all Maple Leaf locations but I do find they seem to run out of salad here.  No showers in the domestic terminal.  Nice bathrooms though.

Coming to the lounge is one of the things that makes getting through the security hassles a bit more bearable, and a nice perk if I'm on an executive class ticket.  If you don't have one, some credit cards allow access.

if you lookin to relax than this lounge works, with its inside over head view of the terminals, and the floor to ceiling windows viewing the outside to check on the weather the lounge is good for loungin..  Average service for food snacks and drinks, the beer was nothing but suds and I know how to pour, the salad bar was thumbs down as well as the first round of soup... the second round of soup was 4 out of 5.... This place was pack as well, how many users does it take to srub the elite out of elite lounge..

I can't give any less than five stars to a place you can go and mix your own Caesar, eat some salad, soup and a roll, and snack on olives, cheese and crackers. They also had a descent selection of wines and a full self-serve bar.

The staff is very attentive, both at the check in desk and around the lounge. Empty dishes are quickly collected and any forgotten items are quickly scooped and announced for pick-up (so beware walking away from any of your stuff!)

They also have a business centre with computers with complimentary Internet access. Or you can plug in your laptop and connect. There's a huge selection of magazines and newspapers. There are also plenty of TVs.

The only downside is you have to be a member or have a business class ticket to be able to gain access to the lounge. Definitely seek it out if you do!

As airline lounges go, Air Canada's always leave me with the impression that they could have done a bit more (so I guess you could say they are consistent with Air Canada's in-flight offerings as well!).  The ones at YVR are no exception.  My favourite lounge in YVR is the Cathay Pacific lounge, which is like a mini version of their Hong Kong lounge (which is my favourite airline lounge worldwide).  I haven't had a night-time international departure recently so I haven't tried the new BA lounge which is supposed to be quite nice as well.  Overall the Air Canada lounges are towards the bottom of the heap in YVR though.  Granted, they are better than the domestic lounges in the States from the U.S. carriers, and it is much better than the ridiculous little room that JAL calls a lounge.  But worldwide nothing special.

Tip for access:  You can have free access to the Maple Leaf lounge through several different credit cards, as well as by reaching the mid-tier level on the Aeroplan frequent flier program.  You can also frequently be brought in as a guest if you stand in front and ask someone nicely!

This is my favorite first class lounge and I've been in many in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

What's unique about this lounge is the set-up.  It feels very luxurious from the fixtures and the panoramic view of the planes.  Also, this lounge is always stocked and it's serve your self.  I've had full meals here that I've served up -- delicious soups, salads, homemade sandwiches -- and all for free and all you can eat.

They also let you serve yourself drinks so there are usually a wide variety of beer, wine, juices and sodas.

Because I got to the airport early for security, I've spent hours here and it's not a problem.  It's really relaxing actually.

This lounge seems to have the most room of the Western Canada Air Canada lounges. Much more seating, and a variety of seating. Sit down tables, comfy couches, large chairs, etc. Always great coffee choices, whether basic or fancy. In the morning you can always find cereal, toast, yoghurt, and fruit. The afternoons provide great soups with bread and other snack items. Never been for dinner, though I imagine the selection is great. The Air Canada lounges are a must-needed perk for avid travellers, and Vancouver seems to have one of the best.

As with almost all Maple Leaf Lounges, this one is a comfortable spot to relax if you have lots of time to kill at YVR.

Free booze, free soup, assorted snacks and a great view of planes taking off. This is a nice place to relax before departing from YVR.
