Best vindaloo in Burnaby. Ask for extra hot, you get extra hot. Butter chicken was also dreamy.

After reading great reviews about Agra Tandoori Restaurant, I decided to order delivery tonight.
Lamb Curry: Large pieces of lamb, but the lamb was not tender and a bit fatty. There was a lot of sauce and enough lamb to serve 2 people. the "mild" heat was in fact more "medium", and although I am accustomed to eating spicy food, I do not think I would've been able to enjoy their "medium" heat. It also could have used salt.
Butter Chicken: It was not very creamy and I tasted a lot of tomato (not my preference). The pieces of chicken were medium sized but were not very tender. Again, "mild" heat was more like "medium" heat.
Rice: Just plain basmati rice. Cooked perfectly.
Naan: it was *OK*. I have had much better but it was edible!
When I ordered, the man was very nice and answered all my questions--was very polite! I do not know if it was the same man who delivered the food, but it came in a 1/2 hour and he was very nice as well!
All in all, it wasn't that the food was bad--it is just that I have had very good Indian food at Mahek (which is unfortunately all the way in Surrey :( and too far for delivery) -

I originally intended to order pizza or sushi and somehow ended up ordering some AMAZING Indian food!
My roomie was telling me about a great place in Burnaby she couldn't remember the name of, and immediately I thought of the restaurant at Smith and Canada Way. I've actually been here a few times before but the name seems to be different each time.
The lady on the phone was friendly and the food arrived in about half an hour! So quick!
I ordered my fave, Palak Paneer and my roomie had the Butter Chicken. We got some veggie samosas and the garlic naan to go with it.
The portions were pretty big and everything tasted awesome! As we sat on the couch eating it we were like "FIVE STARS. FIVE STARS!!"
The hunks of paneer were nice and big and the dish itself was spiced perfectly and was just salty enough. The samosas were interesting because rather than different pieces of filling, everything had been mashed up and blended. I liked them a lot!
And the Garlic Naan was a total winner. I don't know why they even bother putting plain naan on the menu. What kind of freak would order that when they could have this giant steaming garlic amazingness?
I think I've found my new favourite delivery place!Listed in: The best of the best.

Yummo! Ordered the Lamb Palak and Mushroom Mattar for take-out and both were very tasty. The naan had a nice smokey flavour and had a great texture. Service was friendly and quick. Will need to come back soon!

Several months ago I had ordered the best Indian food EVER. The creamiest and most flavorful butter chicken, glorious garlic naan, and paneer palak that made me almost weep tears of joy. After I had eaten my fill and more, there was still plenty left over because the portions are so big. Many times afterwards I had craved delicious Indian food but could never remember the name of this place. I spent countless hours on the internet trying to find it again but never could. Had it been just a beautiful dream?
Last night when deciding what to order for dinner, my room mate and I started talking about Indian food. I told her my story of the best Indian food I had ever tasted and she knew the place I was talking about! Apparently they change their name quite often, which is why I couldn't find it online. We pulled up Google Maps and struck gold: we had found it.
I ordered the mild butter chicken with rice, a garlic naan and my roomie had the paneer palak, also with rice and a garlic naan. We got a couple veggie samosas as well. It was incredible. As soon as I brought the first spoonful of butter chicken to my mouth, I knew I would be writing a five star Yelp review. Aside from the amazing food, the service was friendly and delivery was FAST. Less than half an hour I think. All our food and a bottle of pop was about $50 with taxes and the delivery fee, so it was pretty decent considering the amount of food.
Today I'm eating the leftovers for lunch and it's just as good as it was last night.Listed in: Some of my favorite eats

The food is still fantastic after coming here for several years and going through several name changes. I came here for the non-veg lunch special which includes a tandoori chicken leg, veg curry special of the day (kidney beans... not my fave), daal, rice, naan, and a meat curry of your choice (lamb curry, butter chicken, or chicken curry). I went with the lamb curry which was perfectly spiced. I finished it all up.
And though my meal was quite good, and possibly a good deal for $10, I wasn't satisfied. They used to have a lunch buffet a while ago and that was amazing! I would have liked to have butter chicken and lamb curry... and no kidney beans and daal. Those are my least favorite Indian foods. But anyway, that's me being nit picky. I think if I'm craving Indian for lunch, I'll go to a place with a lunch buffet or come here with lots of people so we can order more variety.Listed in: Dining in Burnaby, A Coconut's Guide to Indian…

Pros: Food was tasty.
Cons: Charged us an unexpected 8 dollars for delivery. Very little portions for the price.
Might be better if you go sit-down, would not recommend delivery option. Their website had many 404 pages, including pages with descriptions of food. One can ultimately find a better tasting indian-style restaurant for a lower price. -

I just ordered delivery tonight because of all the great reviews. I'm new to my neighbourhood, and they were awesome to deliver, I'm actually in Vancouver, not Burnaby.
Food arrived really hot, and it was really good. Veg samosas, butter chicken (mild, because of another review warning) but it wasn't spicy at all, could have used a medium, and aloo gobi + naan.
The driver didn't even know what yelp was! I told him they had fabulous reviews and should check it out.
I just gave them 4/5 because I didn't dine in. Delivery experience was perfect. They were busy when I called, but he put me on hold to confirm they would deliver, and then asked if I would hold on while he finished with another customer. I said I'd ring him back shortly, but he called me back a few minutes later, without my having given him my number. I thought that was great service (and business) on his part.
Thanks to other yelpers for helping me find a great gem that delivers to my new home! -

My favorite Indian delivery in Burnaby !!
Everything I've ordered from here has been a winner. Mogo Cassava Fries: YUM. Gobhi Pakora: Out of this world. Their red and green chutneys: Almost drinkable.
Seriously, this place rocks my socks. And when you order it extra spicy, it comes extra spicy! Imagine that!
I wonder if I can bribe them to deliver to me out in Vancouver? Because I am seriously missing their food! -

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the greater vancouver area... but it gets a 3/5.
Here's why...
Food - AMAZING... great flavour, great texture, great aromas, appropriate portions. You can taste the individual spices as they play on your tongue - so well done!
Be advised, their "mild" is more "medium" and "medium" is kinda hot - this coming from a brown girl who loves the spicy means that even *I* get a runny nose and I eat my food with hotsauce regularly!
If you want bigger portions, get take out - the ones in the restaurant are appropriate for one person as a meal or two to share if you get 2 dishes, but not for those who have a huge appetite.
Ambiance - Amazing ...comfortable, good music, sometimes the hockey game is on.
Service - I've been coming here for 5 years, and I know the servers and owners, but, they are always slow. They forget to bring the bill, they forget to ask if you want tea at the end, and now that they have changed their name, they are charging 1.50 for hot water. Infact, with new name, prices have gone up. I appreciate extra time to hang out and chill, but when it's cold inside and I want some chai, you need to come ask me! -
Review from Jenni B.
I went here recently with a group of people.
The service to begin with, was fantastic. We were a decent sized table (8 people) and everyone had different recents, questions, and mind changes, the server was awesome. Random orders of naan were always brought out promptly, and service was very speedy for the group.
Since there was a group of us, we all took bites of eachothers' food because everything looked and smell delicious, everything I tried was gorgeous. The portion was a good size, I could hardly get through half of mine, even with help! Everyone was happy with the good. I also ordered samosas with a friend to share (which were lovely).
This is the first Indian place on this side of the bridge I really liked; definately good if you are having a curry craving. I was there on a day they didn't have lunch specials, but I was told by a friend they usually do.
In summary, good food, good price, great service! -

Burnaby, BC
Very good location close to where we live, this restaurant is a real surprise. It is some of the best Indian food we've ever eaten. Trouble is we want to hav a variety of food so we get stuck with only ordering the combos (dinner and house). Not that that is a real complaint.
Tastes terrific. Good portions. Comfortable atmosphere with bollywood films on the tv and ove the speakers.
Highly recommended.
Btw they are changing the name to Agra Tandoori bit not changing anything else of substance. -
Review from Inga K.
I work near this spot, and one colleague and I regularly hit here for lunch. They have a fantastic lunchtime special for $8.95 with butter chicken, a lentil thing, a chick pea thing, bread, a red chicken spicy thing and rice. Options for lamb and vegetarian version also on the menu.
(I am so uncool for not having a clue what I am eating in an indian restaurant... forgive me yelpers)
Service is fantastic and fast. Never had an off meal here and always out in an hour. Higly recommend! -

I've been going to the Original Tandoori Kitchen for over five years now. I am not in Burnaby often, so whenever I have time and I am out in the eastern suburbs I try to fit it in. I got there today after the lunch rush, the owner Gurdip Bhahu was there to greet me and his "better half" (to quote him) was supervising in the kitchen. The restaurant is very comfortable without being too ornate and very clean (including the bathrooms) with starched napkins, quietly elegant and comfortable. Bollywood videos were playing at a reasonable volume in the background...personally, I would have preferred a bit of classical sitar goin'on but the lady with me thought it added to the ambience ... so I didn't focus on this but got back to why I was there, the food! Excellent varied menu with many choices for the vegetarian and carnivore as well. We ordered three excellent dishes; the dahl (gotta have a protein source if you are a vegetarian (FYI we veg's mainly eat legumes, nuts, tofu and possibly some dairy if one is not too vegan strict) in this case lentils which is the base of dahl, spinach and paneer (Indian style cheese) and lastly potatoes and cauliflower all served in delicious curry sauces. In addition we had a couple of naan breads, boiled rice and some condiments including chutney and raita...we had it medium hot. Unlike in my youth, after a night in the pub on Saturday night's in London, UK (my home town) when I had to have a ton of chilli and my eyes watering to enjoy, now I like to savour the subtle and delicious flavours in the curry sauces and if its too hot I find I don't taste as well...maybe it's an age thing?
The food was excellent (probably not organic but made with quality ingredients) and cooked to perfection. A nice energy was in the food which always makes hand made food so special and enjoyable. That transfer of energy from the cook to the consumer is key for a quality meal. Remember, you are what you eat! So you gotta be careful who's cookin' in the kitchen or you will take on their vibes.
To finish up we shared gulab jamun for dessert and chai teas... What a delicious meal! For my money (today it was about $50 for two with tip) my favourite Indian restaurant in the Vancouver area. There are a few others that can be great some of the time but this place is consistently good, which is key. Excellent personal service from Gurdip or whomever is serving adds to the experience too. Another nice touch is they do have a table of current periodicals and papers if you are dining or lunching alone. The restaurant is tucked away in a small strip mall on the south side of Canada Way off Boundary Road so google to get the directions before you go. -

Loved it - great tandoori chicken, butter chicken, naan and a really great eggplant dish (wish I knew what it was called). The curries were mild (although I'm sure we could have asked for spicy) but flavourful.

My favorite Indian food in the whole lower mainland. Deliver, pick up, eat in, it's all been great. Their naan is amazing, the paneer is authentic and addictive, and the usual butter chicken, pakoras, etc are all mouth watering.
There's usually tables available even when we've gone with big parties. The place looks upmarket and the staff are professional.
It's a tad expensive, unfortunately. But if you can afford it, don't bother going anywhere else.
