We booked an appointment the day before, and my girlfriend and I ventured to North Van for her chemical peel. We were met by a nurse named Donna, despite expecting that the consultation would have been given by the doctor since this was a medical skin clinic. However, we felt comfortable enough with the information that was  being provided by her and continued.

After a consultation and evaluation of her skin, the nurse recommended a Silkpeel, which was pitched as a treatment with zero downtime, and good results that were less invasive than a chemical peel. It was priced at $185, which was a lot more than what we were expecting. We found other clinics in town priced $125 for chemical peels, and Silkpeels in the $100 - $125 range.

The nurse then made an oddly strong recommendation for the Dr.'s "special formula" solution as an after-treatment prescription that could be used to reduce acne, fine lines, and pore size - things that the Silkpeel would not help with.

Since we already made the trip to North Vancouver, we decided to go ahead with the Silkpeel procedure based on these recommendations. Unfortunately, the results were barely noticeable, and looked no better than an at-home facial. Granted, Donna set adequate expectations that the treatment was a mild one, but this was certainly well below expectations for the $185 spent.

Since there were no other options provided for after-treatment care and prevention, my GF asked for the prescription solution. We were told that there was only one compounding pharmacy in North Vancouver that made this potion "the way the doctor specifically liked it to be prepared", and that the results reported by other clients were astounding. Sounds great, right?

The ONLY precautions given were that the salicylic acid in the prescription solution may dry out the skin, but a standard moisturizer could be used to help with the dryness; or application of the solution could be alternated to every other day.

    _

We went to the pharmacy and were told that the solution wasn't available, and we'd have to come back tomorrow. We thought this annoying and wondered why the clinic wouldn't have just faxed the prescription over and had them make it while we walked over to the pharmacy. I wondered why a clinic like this wouldn't have made it easier for us since this was supposedly the "best" place to get it.

About $50 later she had the prescription. No usage precautions were given by the pharmacist except to test it on the neck first before applying to the face. My girlfriend did just this when starting usee - all seemed OK to proceed. 5 minutes after applying it to the face she noticed a slight tingling sensation.

She was convinced that it would be ok, and tried the solution again the next evening.  After a few minutes, she developed severe redness and inflammation around eyes and lips. The stinging sensation was overall, and unbearable - she had to wash her face immediately, and discontinued use. After 2 days, her skin was still red, inflamed, and severely peeling.

Concerned, and suffering, we called the clinic to get some answers and relief. The receptionist Shannon advised to discontinue use of the solution and to avoid applying it around the eyes and lips. We still sought relief, and were told that they would consult with the doctor and call back.

I ended up missing work to take my girlfriend back. We arrived early for the 5PM appointment, and were rushed into a private room. Dr. Shehla Ebrahim clearly ignored my girlfriend's face during this revisit, and boldly asked what the problem was.

We explained in detail the experience and symptoms, and were told in a disciplinarian tone that this was "totally and absolutely normal".

    It wasn't normal.

The doctor was not reassuring, and rapidly changed her tone once she realized we weren't buying it. She then acknowledged that these results were not typical, claiming this experience was because of sensitive skin. We repeatedly probed if there was something that could be done for relief, and were told that the only resolution was to "wait".

Still before our scheduled 5PM appointment, the Dr. kept looking at her watch. Telling us that she had to go to another appointment, we both lost it. We had an appointment, and were told that the Dr. didn't have time for us? What is the purpose of the appointment then? Dealing with Dr.'s changing opinions, and no relief in sight, we told the story again, and finally this so-called Dr. asked, "so what do you want from me?".

Clearly, relief was all that we were expecting, but with no future hope, and feeling completely misled - we asked for a refund which was given promptly.

So disappointing was Dr. Shehla Ebrahim - her unprofessional, unconcerned, and horrible attitude truly soured the entire experience to an unacceptable level. It was truly awful and we felt grossly misled and misinformed by the staff and the doctor, and cannot recommend anyone go here for any reason at all.
