Adriana's serves good food. Kind of unique and sized so that the servings won't murder my stomach. The atmosphere is nice too. I'd like to go back sometime.

But I'll never be able to afford it.

Bottom line: Decent food, but don't come here unless you're the kind of person who lights your cigars with burning $20 bills.

Food was good, atmosphere was good. The service was a little weird (very slow at times, hoveringly attentive at others), and we were told the soup of the day was corn, so ordered it, and it was potato. It was good, but...not corn. The waiter who dropped it off stayed away for so long that we just ate the soup anyway. We were hungry.

My boyfriend and I each privately contemplated leaving when we saw the prices on the menu, but neither of us wanted to voice our concern to the other for fear of looking cheap or ruining a nice time.

But folks - it is a Mexican restaurant, and the CHEAPEST ENTREE on the menu was $24.00. Seriously.

We ended up sharing an appetizer (potato soup, supposed to be corn) and sharing an entree (Azteca Pie - a layered corn tortilla pie with chicken, veggies, salsa, cheese). The portions were average-sized. We decided to have dessert and coffee somewhere less ridiculously overpriced, and got out of there.

It's a nice place with good food, and I can forgive weird foibles like the wrong soup. Hey, it was good soup anyway.

But the prices are overinflated to such a ludicrous degree that nothing else about the experience is even memorable. To be honest, I'm only giving it two stars because the food and atmosphere were good. It was a one-star experience for me.

    I won't be back.

Adriana's is the anti-Cafe Mexico - it's classy, refined and delicious.  It's also situated in an old house hidden on a side street.

Rather than serving standard Mexican fare, Adriana's goes for something more upscale, on the order of Maya in San Francisco or La Serenata in Los Angeles.

When we arrived, our waiter asked us if we had a reservation.  We said no, but our waiter (who was actually Mexican!) found us a table on their romantic upstairs loft.

Our waiter greeted us with an amuse bouche of surprisingly ungreasy, yet flavorful yam croquettes - clearly served to entice us to order a full order of them.  As much as we wanted to, we didn't budge.

When my wife initially discovered this place, she saw the lunch menu, which featured prices at about half of what you find on the dinner menu.  As the full dinner prices were a bit higher than our budget, we asked our waiter if a full dinner contained enough food to share.  He actually said yes, but recommended we get an appetizer as well.

So we ordered the Adriana's salad to go with our Mole-topped Vegetarian (roasted vegetable) Enchiladas.   And Adriana's delivered deliciousness, from the salad dressing (a red wine chipotle vinaigrette) to the small sampling of refried beans.  And everything tasted super fresh.

And we filled ourselves out, but still had room for the sizable, perfectly executed fried banana and fried ice cream dessert.

If you like your Mexican food subtly spiced and without grease, you can't go wrong with Adriana's.
